We managed to snag the top loft around the Holiday season. To top it off, this place is pet-friendly, no questions asked and no pet deposit. This is an incredible perk for families traveling with their fur babies. Because they recognized that pets are family too, we took extra care to clean up after our pets on the property when they did their business outdoors. Not sure if they care about dog poop on the land, but may we suggest a small station for doggie poop bags? Also something to consider, we frequently saw loose dogs from the surrounding area running on the property and road, so we recommend being aware of this if your pet doesn't do well around loose dogs. Our cabin was approximately 600 square feet, had a gas fireplace (awesome!!!!!!), and we were right on the edge of the Watauga River. The land surrounding the cabin is lovely and the sound of the rushing river water is absolutely refreshing. The cabin comes with everything you would need for your stay: extra towels and bedding, extra spices, condiments, and coffee, a nice laundry facility on the ground floor, firewood for the camp fire outside, and an awesome grill and outdoor facility with plenty of seating on the river's edge. Our dogs loved romping in the lake. The only thing that the cabin didn't have was shampoo/conditioner, but there was plenty of soap in the bathroom and kitchen. The water heater worked great, so there was no issue with hot showers or hot water in the kitchen sink. Once you get the fireplace roaring, it's wonderful being able to settle in with a hot mug of coffee, free fast wifi, and satellite TV. Everything during our stay was perfect. We would definitely book this cabin again in the future for the holidays.

The scenery is stunning, the ceremony locations are gorgeous, the lodging was excellent, and the food was fantastic. Those aspects truly deserve praise. Unfortunately, the organization and communication leading up to our wedding were extremely disappointing, especially considering the cost. Our contract, payment schedule, and amounts due were inconsistent throughout the planning process. Different staff members gave us different information. When I reached out for clarification, I was told their contracts and payment plans were generated using AI and had mistakes. I was promised a corrected contract, but after multiple calls, voicemails, texts, and follow-ups over three weeks, I never received an updated contract or even a reply from Kaleigh. About two months before our wedding--after we had booked the venue over a year earlier and paid all deposits--Sugar Hollow advertised our wedding dates on social media as still available and even offered a discount. I had to contact them to let them know they were advertising our already-booked weekend. Our biggest concern before booking was whether the reception hall would stay cool during our late-June wedding. We asked multiple times and were repeatedly assured the air conditioning would not be an issue. Instead, during dinner the AC shut off and had to be reset, leaving the hall over 80°F with almost no airflow. Several guests had to leave, and some became sick from the heat. The venue had no fans available, and another vendor thankfully brought fans out to help. This was especially frustrating because summer heat is completely predictable for outdoor Tennessee weddings. We also discovered our catering contact no longer worked there only because my emails started bouncing back. No one notified us of the staffing change or set up an automatic response. Another disappointment was accessibility. We booked in part because golf carts were available for our amputee family member and elderly guests, signed liability waivers for them, and then were told just one month before the wedding they no longer offered them. I also strongly recommend hiring an independent day-of coordinator instead of relying on the venue's coordinator. We hired Nicole because she knew the venue, but many décor and setup details we had planned and discussed were missed or incorrect. Throughout the day I had to send bridesmaids and family members to remind her about tasks that had already been planned. A coordinator should be executing the plan--not needing reminders from the bride. Sugar Hollow has incredible potential because the property itself is beautiful. However, the organization, communication, and attention to detail simply did not match the price we paid. Future couples should keep meticulous records, double-check everything, and have an outside coordinator advocating for them. With stronger management, this venue could easily be a 10/10. Based on our experience, I would rate it a 4/10.

The shower experience was outstanding, with plenty of hot water and a refreshing waterfall showerhead. Despite the chilly 23° weather, everything stayed warm thanks to the user-friendly pellet stove. The hot tub, set at a perfect 104°, provided a truly relaxing experience. Additionally, the soak tub next to the bed was a delightful luxury. Every single detail that could have been thought of was. The place is decorated so perfectly and thoughtful. I was super excited to find a blue tooth speaker for music. What made our stay even more special was the owners, Tom and Cris, who went above and beyond to show us their farm and introduce us to all their animals. Their hospitality made us feel welcome and added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit. This was our first time staying in an eco-Dome, and it was a definite 5-star experience. We arrived on Monday and departed Friday to continue our vacation. We checked into a more "highly regarded" and more expensive B&B today. Already, we see many things at Bald Mountain House we do not find here. First, Monica is an amazing hostess, incredible chef (most amazing breakfasts ever!), and cares for her guests so well! It is the most peaceful and tranquil place we have ever stayed. The king Tempur-pedic in the Blue Ridge Suite was like being in our own bed at home, except the only sounds we heard was the flowing steam and singing birds. The cool mountain are allowed us to keep the windows open our entire stay, even when we turned on the AC for a cool sleep at night. The place smelled so fresh and was very clean (perfect 100 sanitation rating). There were always drinks stocked in the fridge and coffee and cookies available in the dining room. The tap water was soft and tasted as good as any bottled water. We enjoyed the many comfy chairs on the huge covered porch as we watched golden finches, hummingbirds, and other beautiful birds feast at the many feeders while we looked at the vast mountain range above the flower planter boxes. We were able to do some hiking on the infamous Appalachian Trail, including breathtaking views atop Big Bald mountain. Monica provided a lot of helpful information when we asked, especially regarding dinner ideas. While the owners were on site and available 24/7, we appreciated that unlike other places we have been they did not immerse themselves into their guests space! We hope to return again in the future!

I was sent an extremely well laid out itinerary for checking in, what to expect during our stay, procedures, directions. They thought of everything. I didn't need to ask a single question. We stayed in the Pine cabin. I was booking 2 weeks in advance, so I had to take what was open and change my dates to stay during the week. Initially I had my sights set on the cabin with a screened in porch, but this sweet cabin was perfect for just the 2 of us. I can't say enough good things about our stay. The view from our little front porch, paired with the symphony of frogs, cicadas, and other wildlife was intoxicating. It was my favorite spot to eat breakfast, have my morning coffee, and then tea after lunch and dinner. It was still cool enough at night to open the windows and enjoy being sung to sleep by nature. Our private, large hot tub filled with mineral water from the hot springs was heaven on earth. It really did ease our achey joints and my skin seemed to love it. There's just enough of an opening in the trees above, in this secluded little haven, to be able to see the stars at night. I thoroughly enjoyed floating on my back, gazing at the stars at night. Then again in the morning, while the light, cool rain washed over the top of me. Everything about our stay was sensory heaven for me. The cabin was well stocked with what we may need. Very clean and cozy. By bringing our own bed linens and towels we saved $35 off of our cleaning fee. Cell service in the community is really spotty, so I was relieved to have wifi access in the cabin. For some reason, we figured out that we got the best connection on the couch by the patio doors. While we wanted to unplug for the week, we still needed to be able to check on our feral roommates that we call grandchildren. I hope my review inspires others to travel to Hot Springs. This community is still recovering from Hurricane Helene and could use our support. Everywhere we went, we were met with such friendliness and warmth. We heard several stories of resilience and of a community coming together for the greater good. They deserve more help than what they've received so far.
