My only real gripe is how hard they're pushing guests to buy their snacks and wine-- the room has not one but two pieces of furniture loaded with premixed cocktails, a bottle of wine, snacks, and bottled mineral water. They don't allow "outside food" in common areas, whose definition was never clear to me- does it include the patios in front of the rooms? So I felt like a criminal bringing in takeout for dinner, but there is no food onnthe premises other than various kinds of overpriced chips and cookies. They don't let you bring outside wine in common areas, either, which might have something to do with licensing or might just be trying to make you buy their wine. So we waited until it was dark and no one was around to enjoy our outside wine on the patio. But we didn't get in trouble so maybe it was ok. They're also really promoting their bath products, for sale in their little gift shop, along with membership in their hotel chain for "rewards." The website says pet friendly and indeed, dogs are allowed in all rooms-- $50 each is a little steep for pet charge though. The website says there's something for pets in the room but there was none in our room, even though we booked in advance. I don't really care that much but if they say it, they should do it. There were also some rich women guests who looked at me like I was a homeless person or space alien, but other guests I met in the breakfast room were normal and friendly. But basically, it's a hotel oriented toward well-off "classy" wine tourists, and if you're not one of those, you might feel a little awkward here. (I did.) But it's a lovely, comfortable little room with charming grounds, probably nice for a romantic getaway without your dogs.

The front desk closes at 10p but the desk reminds you every evening. One of the best things? One of the problems when staying with dogs at a hotel is that, at least with my dogs, they tend bark at every little noise. With people checking in at all hours of the day, this can become annoying. So I figured staying in a small bungalow would be a good fit. Not only would did it have it's own private backyard for them to run around in, I could also kick back and do a BBQ. Doing an online search for pet-friendly places I stumbled upon Cambria Beach Bungalow, which is managed by the Blue Whale Inn in Cambria. Looking at the photos, I decided to stay there. Although expensive, I really enjoyed my stay here. It's about a block away from the Beach, so it was real easy to walk the dogs down there. The interior is country home kitsch, it has two bedrooms and some fold out couches in the living room where you can accommodate more guest. The main drag to Cambria is less than a mile so it's easy to get supplies there. The backyard has a nice garden and plenty of room to run for small dogs. There is a fence to hold the dogs in, but a larger athletic dog should be able to jump it if they had the urge. They have a charcoal BBQ in the back yard , so I went to Soto's Market in Cambria and purchased some grass-fed Hearst Ranch rib-eyes and hamburger to grill. Mighty tasty! I enjoyed my stay at the Cambria Beach Bungalow as did my dogs. You do pay a pet fee as well as a cleanup fee so it does get expensive, but hey, once in a while I will splurge for the pets.

It was sweet that they both came to meet us, and give us a tour of the cottage and grounds to be sure that we were comfortable. It felt like we were visiting family or friends and we truly felt at home. The cottage looks like it is from a fairy tale and it is as perfect inside as it is outside. No detail has been overlooked to be sure that the guests have everything (and more!) that they need. Sitting right amidst the beautiful vineyards, it is like looking at a postcard. Every inch of the cottage is immaculate and looks brand new. The interior has been done tastefully with great attention to detail. From the high quality appliances and furniture to the smallest details in the bathroom. Seriously, nothing has been overlooked! This quiet and serene location is just close enough to restaurants, shopping and wine tasting but you will feel like you are "walking in the clouds".
