I am an innkeeper and consider myself pretty picky when it comes to comfort and cleanliness. When traveling with a dog it isn't always easy to find such nice places to stay. We especially enjoyed the artwork in every room and the upstairs deck where we sat with a bottle of wine and watched the sun set into the ocean. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, all you hear is the ocean! The location can't be beat. Cambria is a great town and the elephant seals and Hearst Castle are just minutes to the North. Fun towns and dog-friendly beaches to explore just minutes to the south. We never went more than 15 minutes north or south and we were busy every minute. Elaine could not have been more friendly and helpful. She left us alone to enjoy our romantic getaway but we always knew we could reach her by phone or email if needed. Bathroom had a huge mirror with fantastic lighting around the rim. Husband enjoyed the free fresh brewed coffee from the lobby on one of the outdoor benches. Just cross the street to an amazing walkway along the ocean cliff, with steps down to the beach. That evening we walked to a nice restaurant about 2 minutes down the road. He told me I cannot check in until 3 pm, and it was 2:45 pm. We left and came back. The next person at 4 pm on Saturday, July 4th, told us we could have our room cleaned and when we would like to schedule the room cleaning for Sunday. I told the person at 1 pm. When we came back after being away for the day, our place was not cleaned! I went to the front office and asked to have our place cleaned. The person at the desk, at the time 2:30 pm, told me we did not request the room cleaned because we were not on the hand written lined paper list. I told him that was not true as the person grabbed the paper when we checked in and wrote our room and time to be cleaned. The pool, not working and empty. The hot tub had too much chemicals and my skin itched like crazy. I stayed here many years ago and was always greeted with a friendly voice and granted early and late access even when I would pay. I will never stay here again. Maybe the people are not gay friendly... not sure. Bye, bye! Next....

A very cozy boutique hotel right on Moonstone Beach…read more I love staying here for three main reasons: the oceanfront location, the in-room hot tub, and the fact that my dogs are welcome. A handful of the bungalow-style rooms feel wonderfully private and come with their own patios, giving our pups a sunny spot to lounge. It's perfect for us. The beach sits directly across the street, and you can walk to a few nearby restaurants. Hearst Castle is only seven miles away. The suite we book has a partial ocean view, fireplace, and a whirlpool tub right in the bedroom. It's incredibly romantic. Amenities include continental breakfast, parking, and WiFi. If you're traveling with pets, there's a $75 non-refundable fee. If I had to point out an area for improvement, it would be updating all the rooms as some feel fresher than others. Even so, our stays are very comfortable, and I feel safe here. A big plus: the pet friendly rooms have no odor whatsoever.

We did have to wait because she was constantly helping other guests and answering phone calls, but I want to make it clear that she was wonderful. She was incredibly kind, patient, and professional despite being pulled in every direction. It honestly seemed like she was doing the job of several people, and I felt bad for how overwhelmed she was. When we got to our room, the first thing we noticed was the incredible ocean view. It was beautiful and definitely the best part of our stay. Unfortunately, the room itself was a different story. It had a very strong musty smell that made it feel old and unclean, and there were several stains on the carpet. To make things even more surprising, there was a live lizard in our room when we first walked in. We love animals, so we carefully caught it and let it back outside, but it's definitely not something you expect to find in your hotel room. That evening, after taking a shower, the humidity caused what looked like a blood stain near the top of the shower curtain to become visible. Neither of us had been bleeding, and it was nowhere near where either of us would have touched, so it was pretty disturbing. By that point the front desk had already closed, and knowing how busy the woman at check-in had been all day, we decided to just avoid using that side of the curtain instead of bothering anyone. We had dinner next door, which was excellent, and our server was fantastic. The location of the hotel really is hard to beat. After dinner we brought a few drinks back to our room, but when we opened the refrigerator we found someone else's leftover lemon bar along with drinks that had expired in November 2025. That was honestly the moment everything else clicked. It made us seriously question how well the rooms are cleaned between guests. Later that night we wanted to make tea before bed, but the hot water station was empty. The next morning we mentioned it to the front desk and asked if someone could refill it later that evening before it ran out again. Instead, we were told that we'd just have to call once it was empty because it usually runs out by 7 p.m. That response was frustrating because we were trying to be proactive and avoid having to call later. For a hotel that's close to $300 a night, I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation. The second evening we did end up calling because one of the fire pits wouldn't light. Maintenance came out within about 10 minutes, got it working right away, and was incredibly friendly and helpful. That was one of the better customer service experiences we had during our stay. There were definitely some positives. The location is amazing, the ocean views are beautiful, the fire pits are a nice place to relax in the evening, and every member of the housekeeping staff we interacted with was incredibly kind. They were happy to chat, offered recommendations, and genuinely made us feel welcome. We also really appreciated being given a complimentary one-hour late checkout, which gave us time to enjoy one last walk along the coast before leaving. Overall, the employees we interacted with were friendly and helpful, but the cleanliness and condition of the room simply didn't match the price. Between the musty smell, stained carpet, lizard, questionable shower curtain, leftover food and expired drinks in the refrigerator, and other small issues throughout our stay, we wouldn't choose to stay at Cambria Landing Inn again. It's a beautiful location, but the rooms need much more attention and better quality control.

I am writing this review as I have time in the hospital emergency room waiting for my partner to…read moreget care for his injury from falling in the hotel bathtub. I reviewed half of the Yelp reviews now again and there are a large amount of reviewers mentioning the safety concerns of the bathtub not having a safety bar and the ventilation fan is weak, and now I am realizing it is all true. I noticed the tub was slippery when I try to shower first and came back out to put the small nonslip bath mat that was provided under the sink. I have to make sure I only step within the non slip mat and get in and out of the tub slowly to prevent falling and I am young and able! I should have warned my partner when he goes into the shower, because his outcome was a disaster. From how he described the incident, he came out of the shower stepping off the nonslip mat and slipped and fell hitting the edge of the toilet. The bathroom vents are loud and you can hearing it running but I don't think it seems to work because the mirror was still steamy. The bathtub wall and tub of course stays wet longer as well I assumed. I just want to write this review for the future travelers to be careful, and I do hope the hotel management will consider installing safety bars after reading the reviews. I did read reviews before picking this hotel and saw the tub and vent reviews, but at the time I would never think this could happen to us. I have yet to think how to request an incident report with hotel staff yet as I am still waiting in the hospital for my partner to get stitches on his head. We checked in the hotel around 8pm and the incident happened around 10:30pm, so we don't have much time in the room to write about other amenities of the hotel. One thing stood out to us is when checking in the front desk mentioned twice she did not get to take her break time. I hope management read this to give the front desk an extra hand for breaks!

What this place DOES Have going for it:…read more (1) Great location -- across the street from south end of Moonstone Beach boardwalk. (2) A little less than half a mile from what seems to be the one and only restaurant along the beach. (3) most delicious quick breads as part of the free continental breakfast. (4) spotless "tiled" floors, it's some sort of fake wood, not sure, but in any case, it's not dirty disgusting carpet (5) cute fireplace--and for that reason it seems like a great place to stay during the winter FYI: refrigerator is hidden in cabinet below the TV! Things I wish I'd known before I booked: (1) no air conditioner, (2) $15/day extra if you want Wifi fast enough to stream video or work on laptop with MS Office; (3) no full length mirror, (5) no true protein macro at "complimentary continental breakfast". Cambria in general is a small, quiet town with beautiful boardwalk along the beach. Cambria doesn't seem to have a great food scene. Nor does it have a legit grocery store. But perhaps I didn't search hard enough ... WiFi connection was an issue for me.
