But once the summer visitors roll in, it fills quickly and people park along the highway, and up into the neighborhoods. Locals are okay with that for the most part, but cut them a break and don't block driveways, block off the road, etc. You know what I mean! Nice access to the lake and a nice area for swimming. Lots of trees, so lots of places to picnic. Restrooms are available. And there's a sand-court volleyball setup. Refreshments are just a block away, so no concerns about not having enough water. Operated and maintained by Chelan County PUD, which does an excellent job keeping the park looking good.

We were all taking the boat to Stehekin the next day and Donna made sure we had coffee and pastries before we left for the day and also picnic lunches to take on the boat. The rooms were clean and in excellent condition - we even had a couple of outdoor areas where our group could gathered in the evening and socialize. We all had an excellent time while in Chelan and the Riverwalk Park Inn was a big part of it.

My friend and I had so much fun walking around Blackbird Island (Waterfront Park)! It's such a…read morebeautiful little park with amazing views and a river running through it. We learned that the main loop trail there is about 1.9 miles round-trip. As you cross the bridge onto the island, trails crisscross through a peaceful, natural area with interpretive signs, and you get to hear birds calling and see fish jumping in the water. Fun fact: Blackbird Island was formed from silt left by the old Lamb-Davis Lumber Mill, making it part of the reclaimed land that now hosts this lovely park. It's a great place to stretch your legs, get fresh air, enjoy nature, and just take in the views. I highly recommend stopping here if you're in Leavenworth!

Of all the public lakefront recreational areas around Chelan, Don Morse Memorial Park is always our…read morego-to place whenever we're in town. Parking will run you $10 (2 hours) or $15 (6 hours). There is also a 24-hr rate, but I can't recall what it is. For the best parking access, utilize the lot adjacent to the Lakeshore RV Park (TIP: If there's a line at the parking lot pay station, or it's out-of-order, you can pay for parking at the Lakeshore RV Park Front Gate). The parking lot can easily fill up by 11 AM or noon on weekends and spring/summer holidays, so keep this in mind when considering the day of the week you'll be visiting and when you plan to arrive. The park's grounds include a skate park, sand volleyball pits, basketball courts, playground, concession stand, grassy areas, restrooms, some tree-shaded spots, picnic tables, good-sized beach and roped-off swimming area. There's also a boat launch and marina (where it's possible to fish). A go-kart track and miniature golf course are situated in-between the marina (south) parking lot and the RV (north) parking lot, but these are privately run businesses. The only negative of Don Morse Memorial Park is the hourly rate (and maybe the capacity) of the parking lot. Despite this, I still think this park deserves a 5-star review--it's just too good in terms of the layout and amenities it offers.

Kid toys, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, swing set, beach area, Shoreline Watercraft And Boat Rentals, CLean new Bathrooms, and a Small food place that has snacks and shave ice in the summer. Great vibe . Large grass area where we put up a shade tent and set up yard game to have a picnic in the park. There are even covered areas. Not sure but maybe you rent those. Large beach area and lots of parking. Plus sand volleyball courts. Super fun day with our friends and family. We enjoy it here and can walk to town. Or if staying at Campbell's or camping at park it's walking distance too.

Waterfalls aren't exactly common in the desert of central washington, so anyplace you can find the…read moresound of cascading water is special. Finding Summer Falls may be tricky, but the surrounding country roads that cut through coulees and follow abandoned railroad routes are very picturesque, so I would plan to get a little lost and enjoy it. The park is like an oasis at the end of a rocky, dusty driveway: a well-irrigated grassy park with trees, picnic tables, restrooms and a pavilion, all nestled up against Billy Clap Lake and the waterfall. Note: the only water recreation here is fishing: there is no beach and people have been seriously injured from falling on the slippery rocks of the falls. The falls are, however, very accessible if you have two legs and don't mind the "KEEP OUT" signs. If you are looking for desert hikes, there are plenty nearby (including Sun Lakes/Dry Falls state park), but not at Summer Falls. This park is a pretty sedentary place unless you are throwing frisbee or football in the grassy park. These falls and the depth of Billy Clap Lake they flow into were created when an irrigation canal was built to bring water from Banks Lake (itself a product of water diverted from the Grand Coulee Dam) to what was then dry, rocky, sagebrushy non-farmland further south. There is also a tiny, discrete power plant just up the canal from the falls. So the lake is a coulee that is full of water, and the water coming down the falls is what is leftover from the canal after the power plant takes it's share. It sounds pretty industrial, but it's not: the irrigation and power generating functions of the water are invisible at Summer Falls. Summer Falls is a good place--maybe the only place--to enjoy the relaxing sound of a waterfall amidst the area's desert landscape.

There's a nice park and swimming area, a little hut for picnics, and bathrooms. You can swim/hike over to the waterfall and even walk behind it (if you blatantly ignore the signs that prohibit this activity, that is)! It was surprising how many people were here, what with how out-of-the-way it was. Glad we found this little gem! Minus one star for having thistles in the grass. My flip-flopped feet did not appreciate.
