Catered an all-ages picnic for 56 but I ordered for 50 heads because a dozen were young kids. Ordered brisket, chicken, BBQ sauce, beans, slaw, and mac & cheese. There was plenty left over. The food was delivered 21 minutes away, arriving exactly at the promised time, 100% complete, with some trays still too hot to touch. I included bread & supplies with the order, and the delivery included plenty of serving spoons & tongs, utensils, plates, & napkins. Brisket and sauce were fantastic. The chicken needs work--dry and low flavor. The hamburger buns were very bready and big, too big for many. The sides were fun and interesting new flavors. The slaw was tasty-tangy but very white--challenging those who like their vegetables green. Sorry folks. The beans were super popular. I would get them again, all of those sides. But the chicken...you might go in and taste-test it first. On the front end, it was so easy to arrange for this catering through the website and email. The communication was prompt and accurate. Changes, inquiries, and payment were handled seamlessly. I arranged for this food from long distance, and Beef&Butter really came through. It's a little more expensive than some other Madison options but in the end I was really happy to support this business and the people running it. I wish them great success in the future. read more

Nice place. Ambience is typical BBQ joint vibe and was clean. Had the brisket, jalapeno cheddar sausage, coleslaw and baked beans. The sausage is a rock star - it was fantastic. Sides were pretty good too. However, I have to say the brisket was a bit of a disappointment - it was way overcooked, like it had been smoked at too high of a temperature. It was edible but really dry. Just overcooked or held too long. Had to douse it in sauce to eat it which is a total shame. Would have been a 5 star rating if not for the brisket. We went on a Thursday night around 5. Plenty of space, there were only 2 other families there. Food 3/5: the ribs and brisket were dry and did not have much flavor. We got the end of the brisket they were currently cutting, so likely had been cut hours before and left which likely lead it to be dry. The chicken was ok, not much flavor and was on the drier side. The sausage was the best option we tried, good balance of flavor. The cornbread was also dry. The potato salad had good flavor. The Mac and cheese was the best thing we tried. I'd comeback for the sausage and Mac and cheese. Service 3/5: this is an order at the counter and sit down style. We had never been here before and overall did not feel helped when we were ordering. The staff just started at us and asked what we wanted instead of helping us walk through the steps of how to order (meat first and then you choose your sides). It got challenging because there was a growing line and many of us felt the same way of not really knowing what to order. I had to ask for extra plates for our kiddos, and was a little confused about extra condiments and things that were available in the restaurant. Ambiance 4/5: the restaurant was clean and plenty of places to sit. We were in the restaurant with another family with kids, and our kiddos ended up doing friendly dinosaur roads to the family across the restaurant. We all had a really good laugh. Overall most of the meat was dry but we liked some of the sides. The staff could have been more helpful in ordering. This is a kid friendly restaurant in our experience and had plenty of room to accommodate larger parties. read more

Solid BBQ resturaunt and they also sell frozen cuts of meat. Got beef brisket, collards, mac and cheese and sweet corn bread. You can tell how good a place is by their collard greens and theirs can hold their own. Big chunks of pork and the right amount of heat. They were a little more sweeter then I like, but that's more to my personal taste. Sweet ice tea was on point. Cornbread tasted homemade and brisket was tender, flavorful and had the pink smoke ring. The BBQ is sweet and spicy ( not to my taste, but if you like a kick- you will enjoy it.) The only negative and thus 4 stars was the mac and cheese, it just had a weird aftertaste like a cheese sauce from a can. Service was quick and waitstaff were super nice. Ordered for take out we got brisket and a 3 meat plate. We had the pork cheddar jalapeño sausage. Side we got were beans corn bread chili mac n cheese. So I have to say the meats were delicious moist and not dry. Good smoke but not over bearing. The beans really like them plan to adapt my recipe a lil as I really liked the apple in them. I'm did not like all the spices though. The chili was yummy And with the brisket in it just made it pop. Staff was nice on the phone and same when we got to the store. See that bark on the brisket in the pictures on their webpage? Yeah I did too so I tried this place out. What I got in reality was a microwaved (or maybe boiled?) pound of brisket instead. Stop by after getting in from the Airport, it was close by and was craving bbq. Now I don't expect Texas bbq or anything fancy but it was a bit of a let down. I got the brisket and ribs combo. The brisket was ok had good flavor and not dry but the ribs probably the worst I ever had it was so dry I couldn't eat it, even after dipping it in their sweet bbq sauce (which was good). The mac n cheese and apple pie beans were good though. The service was very friendly and fast. Not sure I come back due to the ribs, maybe take it off menu or do weekends only to sustain quality. We had an early lunch today and all I can say is we were not at the least bit impressed. The ribs and brisket tasted old and were luke warm, the wings were the worst I have ever had looked to have been deep fried,no taste should have been called wing bones for the lack of any meat. I will give it the" two step" experience rating. Should probably be two steps from the bathroom after you eat. Just my opinion, Have eaten at a lot of good BBQ places all over the country and this did not come close to anyone of them. Service was also great, quick, and they offered to check the back when we asked if there were any ribs left. I got the smoked sausage with 2 sides (mac n cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy). In my opinion, the smoked sausages were too salty for my preference (my dining party also agreed) and the mashed potatoes were a tad too stiff. Amazing spot serving up outstanding smoked meats and delicious sides. The staff is extremely helpful for first timers. My coworker and I both got the same restaurant week special which was a huge portion of brisket with a local brat and two sides. The brisket was incredible, great smoke, great rub, outstanding flavor. The brat was fantastic as well. I had the baked apple baked beans, very unique flavor, and the kettle chips were very good. My coworker went with mashed potatoes and gravy and mac & cheese as sides. He said they were both very good. I will definitely eat here again when I return to Madison. read more

Second time here and came on a late Tue afternoon. Ordered the 2 meat plate before flying to TX: brisket and pork ribs with potatoes salad and mac and cheese. The lean briskets looked so dry when the server put on them on my plate. She unwrapped the aluminum foil with 3 pork ribs. This was very disappointing because the ribs were room temperature, not even warm (I dined in). They were definitely dry and I only ate one rib. Brisket was dry and even a bit burned. I ended up tossing them since they were just too dry. It was $21 wasted. I really want to love them but the quality is just lacking. I won't be returning. read more
