The Beer on Central is my hubby's favorite beer shop. They have wide variety of canned and bottled beers from barrel aged to New England IPAs on shelves and in the large fridge. They are a huge supporter of local breweries like Hailstorm Brewing, Hop Butcher, Temperance, Marz and Noon Whistle. They even have some beers that are hard to find elsewhere. They have a good rotating selection of different style beers on tap. There is a decent amount of high boy tables and bar stools including a intimate space around the bar for tastings. Local breweries come onsite to offer free tastings to customers. You can check their Instagram for when new shipments come in. The shop is clean, modern and well organized. Great variety of craft options. Some good harder-to-find options and highly rated choices (unTappd app). I loved that this is a place where you can shop at a leisurely pace- there is help available at the bar area, but they don't try to force it on you. And as I mentioned, there is a bar with a few items on tap to try, plus wine. There is also a few high top tables in the middle to sit away from the bar. The shop itself isn't overly large, but designed in a way that it fits all of this without being cramped. My hubby found some great options to take home. Beer on Central is my new go to spot for Beer. 1) Amazing selection of local and hard to find IPA's, stouts and pretty much every style of beer 2) Location - its right by the metra, and they offer cans to go.... amazing for long train rides into the city 3) Service - I met the owner at the store, amazing service and the guy knows his beer. 4) Local - these guys are local and why not support them, awesome spot and you can have a beer while you shop. I've been to Beer on Central a couple times now and love it. I live in the city so don't get to come up to Evanston to often, maybe a couple times a month to visit my GF's family, who live down the street from Beer on Central. Both times I've had a great experience with the owner/s, pointing in the right direction for something new to my likings. I highly recommended visiting this place whether you're a craft brew snob, have no clue what you're looking for, or simply looking for a place that has all the local brews you can imagine. Wow. Beer on Central does everything right as a beer store. Other reviews mention the ability to purchase single cans. Not only that, but those singles are in the cooler. A great, well-curated draft list with some unique hard to find beers and beers that don't get bottled or canned. Don't like what is on tap? You can drink singles on premises (or they can be your Metra beer). Very knowledgeable staff, regularly get the hottest beers in Chicago. And has become a great hub for the Evanston beer community. Best selection of craft beer in Evanston! Despite their small size, they have an amazing variety in stock. Love that you can buy beer to go and also drink in the store from one of their eight taps. They have tons of local beer and always get fresh deliveries from Hop Butcher, Marz, Hubbard's Cave, and all the hot Chicago breweries. Brian, Pete, and Nick are great guys and always have perfect recommendations. It is a great place to hang out (and to take advantage of free samples when they have them). The only bad thing I can say is that I usually spend more money there than I intend since they have so many awesome beers! read more

If I could I would work from home, this is where I would work. It has free wi-fi, and it has the best selection of beer in all of Evanston and Skokie. Yes, even better than Binnys!! They have beers to go for as low as 3 dollars! And it's great because the location is right next to the Metra stop. It would make those long rides to the city more bearable! The best place to buy beer on the North Shore (and beyond), period. You won't find a higher quality-to-quantity ratio, or a larger selection of cold (refrigerated) beer or of rare local microbrews anywhere in the area. Plus, it's a friendly family-owned business where you can sip on a draft while taking your time perusing their shelves, you can bring food to eat while you drink, and can even bring your little ones. Great new spot for finding totally different craft beers for sale and on tap. Father and son owned; super nice and knowledgeable people. Vibe inside is totally chill with plenty of seating to meet out with friends to actually hang out for a bit instead of yelling over the noise of a bar. Love this place! Not only do they know and offer a diverse selection of craft beer from across the country, they send text of local tastings and open taps, and the father son owning/running the place are so welcoming and conversational whenever you want to just have a beer. I know I can pop in, have a nice visit and buy tasty brews, and then leave happy! PS also they have big hearts and care about cats without homes in Evanston. Highly recommended read more
