There is a lodge on top of the hill that has restrooms, food/drinks, and two fire places. Overall a great way to spend a few hours enjoying the snow. But what I saw, was very impressive…read more This is a beautiful old hotel that was built back in the 30s, and has been kept up very well. It has such a classic look, it is the hotel that was used for the external shots in the original "the shining" movie.. on the inside, it's also very nice, it has a kind of rustic "lodge" feel. The hotel sits right at the base of Mount Hood, with beautiful views of the mountain from the back patio of the hotel, and there are lots of outdoor recreation, possibilities, for both the summertime and the winter time. The hotel is open year-round. They have a gift shop, There are plenty of food and drink options, but they are definitely expensive. I get it. This place is up in the mountains, there is a lot of overhead in keeping the place up, and of course, they have a captive audience. The nearest food and drink away from the hotel is like 6 to 10 miles down the road. The menu in the main dining room room looked good, but I can't speak to the food as I didn't eat there. I hope it's better than the blue ox bar. I had a slice of pizza there, and I wasn't impressed (see separate review...) This really is a beautiful property.

Short walk uphill, the guy at the parking, when we asked how to get to the restaurant, he directed us to a elevator or to hike up the steps. We picked the elevator. From there, we went up to the main lodge, steps to the top floor, to the bar & restaurant, and were seated right away. We got a good view around the top, sadly, there were no snow to be found, maybe a small handful here & there, farther away. It's still very beautiful inside & outside, so close to nature! We ordered a meatball sandwich and clam chowder, that we shared. And it came to our table nicely divided, with two plates, and two bowls. There were lots of clams and that was good, but the crispy onions on top made it salty! The service was very friendly. The meatballs were very tasty, I really liked that. It was a very interesting environment for eating. The Lodge restroom, was not easy to find, the entrance was like a half revolving door, when you enter, someone is coming out, or you wait and let the other go out. My husband was here when he was about 10 years old, with his grandparents. He only remembers a black & white photo of him.

We loved the beautiful grounds, and the chalet was comfortable and exactly what we were hoping for. Unfortunately, around 1:00 a.m. on the second to last night of our stay, we returned from the wedding festivities to find that the entire chalet smelled overwhelmingly of sewage. The odor was present throughout all three floors and became stronger with each level. It was so intense that several of us were gagging and even became physically sick. We attempted to book a room at the nearest hotel but they were fully booked, leaving us with no choice but to stay. We opened every window in the chalet and had to leave them open for the remainder of our stay because the smell was otherwise unbearable. We made every effort to report the issue while it was happening. That night, we called the resort's emergency after hours hotline but never received a return call or any follow up. Upon checking out on the final day, I reported the situation again to the staff member at the front desk. He was incredibly kind, apologetic, and assured me the situation was unacceptable. He explained that the manager, Dan, would contact me and that a partial refund would likely be appropriate given the circumstances. After several days passed without any communication, I reached out to the resort myself. I was told that maintenance had inspected the chalet, along with neighboring units, and could not detect any unusual odor. While I appreciate that they took the concern seriously enough to inspect the property, this was very surprising given that all four of us experienced the smell, and it was severe enough that we were becoming physically ill. I was again told that Dan would contact me, but as of writing this review, I still have not received any phone call or email. It's disappointing because, aside from this issue, our stay would have easily earned five stars. I understand that unexpected maintenance problems can happen and I don't fault the resort for an issue that may have been outside their immediate control. What disappointed me most was the lack of follow through after we were assured someone would reach out. Good customer service isn't just responding in the moment--it's also following through on the commitments made afterward. I genuinely hope the source of the odor has been identified and resolved, as it's a beautiful property and I'd love to recommend it. However, I also hope future guests experiencing an issue like this receive the communication and resolution that we unfortunately never did.

Timberline Summit Pass Five Stars, No Waiting, All Smiles…read more Timberline Summit Pass came in clutch. On a day when Mount Hood Meadows was an absolute zoo road backed up for miles, cars abandoned like a snowbound parade, and humans standing in line like cattle waiting for a bus that may or may not arrive sometime next season we made the executive decision to pivot. Best call of the day. Parking at Meadows? Forget it. Shuttle line? Wrapped around the block. And I'm not exaggerating when I say it looked like ten busloads of people standing there at 11 a.m., staring into the abyss, hoping luck would smile upon them. Minimum hour wait if you're lucky... and that's before tickets, walking, and lift lines. Meanwhile, we rolled over to Timberline Summit Pass, found a miracle parking spot near a snow berm, walked about five feet, and were basically done. For around $47, this pass is an absolute steal. I'm an avid skier, and they had fresh powder, nicely groomed runs, and everything running smoothly. No chaos. No stress. Just skiing. We wanted to ski early and get home for a Ducks game and this setup delivered perfectly. While everyone else was still standing around burning daylight, we were already making turns. We skied, we laughed, we didn't rush, and when we were done, we cruised down to Rat Settlers for pizza and lunch like civilized adults. All in, about a hundred bucks for the two of us two older folks just farting around on skis, enjoying the mountain. My wife even got to break in a brand-new set of skis, which is exactly what this little mountain is perfect for. That's the beauty of Summit Pass: it's not trying to be everything. It's fun, beautiful, efficient, and ideal for warming up, getting reps in, or introducing kids and folks who haven't skied all year. No $100+ tickets. No $300 "premium experience." Just honest skiing at a fair price. Big kudos to Timberline Summit Pass. We made the most of our day while others wasted theirs in line, and I'll absolutely be back with the kids, with friends, and anytime I want a low-stress, high-fun day on the snow. You truly can't beat the price or the experience.

You can park down at Summit, ride the shuttle to Timberline, get on the Mile and if running, the Palmer lift to head to the top of that ski area, then take the Alpine 4+ miles down to summit pass to catch the next shuttle. Woohooooo! I have not done this yet as I'm only on day 5 from a 15+ year absence from skiing. Eventually I'll get back up to Timberline and work my way to the alpine. This is a ski area so prices for food and drink prices will be high. Be prepared. The food is good but early in the morning chili is a bit chilly. Hot sausage is cool temperature wise. But both are good when you need the energy. Today I had chili tots. Still too cold. But there's beer and a few hard alcohol drinks you can wash everything down. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Erin on the new magic carpet is very supportive and encourages all to keep going. Thanks Erin. Ski lift seats are mostly hard wood without a foot rest or bar to pull down. but it gets you up to the top of this ski area. The jump off is low and the runout is steep. Tip, ride the lift to the edge of the fall away and then push off the chair. The slopes are groomed but a bit icy today (two weeks ago). Later when the sun came out the snow softened. This place reminds me of where I learned to ski; small two lift Mama-Papa places in Japan. Except Summit is missing the Kirn Ichiban beer, Yakitori and steaming hot bao. But that was like another lifetime for me. This ski area is has everything I need to meet my "Get Back On The Snow" goal. It's open every day from 9:am, it has food and drinks, ski rentals, a magic carpet, one lift and a shuttle to the top when I'm ready. Ahh yes, very comfortable, but I do miss the bao.

We got a $6 permit at Timberline that was good for the day and also covered parking in Government Camp while we were there. There are small, medium and large hills - my kids tried all of them. We stayed for a good hour and would come back again.

Or you can stop at one of many locations on the way up there and buy a day pass, which I believe is $3 as of January 2025. We've done multiple times and always arrive at about 10 AM and there is plenty of parking. When we leave around noon, there is often a line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot. Arrive early! If you go during snowfall or right after a good amount of snowfall, it'll be great. But if you go after there has been a lack of snowfall, some of the hills will show bare. There's a couple small hills right when you arrive but if you follow the trail up, you will find some bigger hills up the trail off to the right. If you go up the trail a couple hundred feet there is another trail that goes up to the left, which isn't super fast, but is longer and fun! The downside is the bear spots after a lack of snow and another downside is many of the slopes are really bumpy! All our kids want to do is play in the snow so it's all worth it for us!

Timberline simply refused. WTF?? Then, recently, right after I turned 65, I bought a day pass not recalling I was now eligible for a senior pass- $44 difference. Timberline would not credit the difference between the adult day pass and the senior day pass. So the heck with Timberline. Just another greedy ski resort. And now that we're talking a review, let me just add that Timberline offers the flattest terrain in the West. .

As much as we tried to enjoy ourselves, his presence made us feel uncomfortable and it probably would have been entirely different if he had approached us with more patience and understanding before flipping us attitude and threatening us. It's a shame because the location is gorgeous, and the rest of the people we interacted with were more pleasant, but we will never come back and have urged family and friends to go elsewhere because of how terrible we were treated at the beginning.
