I think the idea of going to a…read moreflorist and paying a middle-man to make artificial looking arrangements for a small fortune is... well kinda silly. So I was all psyched to order my organic flowers straight from the farmers - a husband and wife team no less. Unfortunately, although they were accommodating of me changing my shipping address, they completely ignored my color requests. I asked for "red, orange and yellow". What I got instead were "purple and pink." I was thoroughly annoyed - particularly because there are flowers in my requested colors all over their website. Instead it seems like they sent me what they think wedding flowers are "supposed to" look like. And nothing gets me more fired up than that. We were able to supplement things a little, and using other decor we tied everything in to match the color scheme. The flowers held up a long time and still looked pretty enough, even if they weren't quite what I wanted. Oh well.

But I am kind of bed bound in a rehabilitation hospital. I have been this way since October 14 2025. The story is I have been a florist my self since the 80's. I also had 2 shops of my own. I was the first to be hired at Raley's here in Red Bluff..back then it was allowed to be run like a real flower shop, not like now where they do so much ready made, worked for them 17 years.Well I digress from main topic here. Anyway I grow succulents and design container and dish gardens. So I was tired of fresh flowers dying so I ordered myself a succulent arrangement. I was very disappointed and called the shop and complained. That was I thought end of story. Well later in afternoon when I was wheeled back from physical therapy I was surprised and delighted to see a very beautiful succulent garden that I love! The company had replaced my other arrangement, but left it too. I was so taken back and pleased also with a nice long note they were so gracious ! But there's something about being around plants that makes me happy. My mom has the most beautiful garden, so when she came to Chico to visit me, I thought she'd love the Plant Barn. It turns out, we both did! I appreciated the welcoming employees, but they also didn't hover. We were able to stroll the property, and admire all of the beautiful plants. It was really peaceful. Although I didn't buy anything, I spotted a few things in the gift shop that will likely bring me back. I've heard that they host classes - wreath making, flower arrangements, etc. - and I would definitely sign up for something like that!

Great place for buying seeds and for getting info on planting…read more The place is very small but they do a great job of keeping a great variety of seeds on hand. (Check out their website both for ordering online and for more information on the benefits of "sustainable" seeds.) They also sell home grown eggs; they even have a club you can join which guarantees you a certain number of eggs a month. I didn't get any of the eggs because we grow our own but from our conversation they clearly know chickens and eggs. They have great specials on seeds too; they have 99 varieties for $.99...so that is pretty cool. Also, talk to them about their grains. Most place don't carry grains but they have a great selection and can give you good advice on when and where to plant them and the best way to harvest them.
