So I can't really give a place 5 stars if I've only been there once; however, I will definitely be there twice so we'll see. Hannah was my stylist and colorist and she was just great. It's also obviously a family affair since I'm fairly certain I was the only one there who didn't know anyone. But the way they spoke about mutual friends/family was really evident. Everyone knew who they were speaking about. I thought the prices were definitely reasonable. I won't comment on my result since someone doing your hair for the first time is going in blind (and I've had people who have done mine several times come out looking like they're going in blind). But it definitely did look awesome. It's quaint, but they offer you drinks (even wine). My one complaint would be the space is too small. Every station was taken and they were even sharing stations (not in a weird way AT ALL) just to get someone in the chair, in the dryer and in the sink. But overall experience was definitely higher end and I will be back (hopefully with Hannah). I do miss the days of living in the city and having one person completely dedicated to color and another completely dedicated to style...that being said they don't have the space for that so not going to try to say something negative about that. If you're nearby, I truly suggest you check it out. read more

I was looking for someone to meld my gray and dishwater hair with rose gold. I really wasn't sure what I wanted/ needed. I was also very trepidacious about how it would look or go with my skin color. Hannah took the time to go over pictures with me...and we really talked about my hair texture and styling needs. Her vision of how to make it work so I wasn't locked into roots and coloring every 4 to 6 weeks was perfect for me. I am very happy with how my hair turned out. I made a little disaster when coloring my hair blonde. It wasn't terrible but the color was uneven, it had different shades of blonde everywhere, and it was in horrible condition. I had a consultation with Jenny. Jenny was so friendly, really listened to what I was saying, and she was very knowledgeable. After we talked about what I want, she asked if I wanted to do it right then and there and of course I said yes! I wasn't expecting them to squeeze me in. We did a shadow root with adding some highlights and a trim. I brought her pics of what I'm looking for and she nailed it. I have no brass tones, no spots, and my hair feels amazing. She also warned me of what the toner COULD do so there were no surprises. Everything cost me about $150 (shadow root and some highlights and a trim). I will definitely be back because I felt right at home from the second I walked in there. The girls are so nice, outgoing, and having complimentary wine was an added bonus. The prices were very fair and Jenny worked very quickly, I was out of there in 2 hours. I'll be sending everyone I know there :). read more

If you're scared of getting hair cuts don't bother going this place. Others were friendly but the women (Jen) who cut my hair didn't care about what I had to say, did her own thing and was more focused on Ann other girl who was bleaching her hair. I am now stuck with tons of unevenness through what was my long hair that turned into a bowl cut because of her. Although maybe the other nice women in there could potentially do a lot better then Jen but it's a gamble you're willing to take. Personally I Will never go back. EDITED: Gave them a call like she said below and was told I can't get my money back due to me not being able to drive an hour away so she can physically look at it. She would not accept pictures. Now I have to pay again to get it fixed. Very bad experience. read more

Everyone is super friendly and professional. The place was really busy but they churned people out at a good place. I hardly waited at all, they took my jacket, offered drinks and treats. My stylist Joette did an amazing job. She took her time to listen and ask questions about the look I wanted to achieve. My hair is very thick and straight and she gave me really nice layers and beautiful coloring. The owner and all the staff were very friendly and honestly are concerned about your happiness with their services. The parking lot is TINY!! I think there are 4 spaces in front of the business. Park in the lots to the sides of you can, there's lots of senior citizens who appear to go there religiously. I did a lot of researching for hair salons in La Grange before stumbling upon this gem! Joette was able to get me in for a color consultation right away, and was extremely thorough with her suggestions and thoughts about my balayage (I showed her a ton of pictures of what I liked, which she patiently went through with me to see if each was realistic to do in my hair or not). I was able to come in the next day for my balayage! Though I though the first toner she put on was too brassy and bright, Joette was able do another one, all with no complaints. I was there for a little over 3 hours, which is pretty typical for my hair since it's so dark and takes forever to lighten. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience there. She is the best! She listens to what I want and makes suggestions sometimes that I am grateful for. Donna, Debbie, and Joette are all amazing and as picky as I am about my naturally curly hair, all of them have colored, cut and styled my hair to perfection. Have you ever shown a beautician the hair cut you wanted and some how got something completely different? I started going to Donna at Before and After approximately 12 or so years ago, when she was on 63rd St & Knox Ave in Chicago. Coincidentally & thankfully, she moved to La Grange Rd! I discovered her shop by chance, because I admired the assistant's haircut in the eye doctor's office, & asked her where she had it done. The assistant & her sister had been going there for years before me! Although they now live further away, they both continue to come to La Grange for Donna or one of her other stylists, as so many other "old" clients of Before and After's come from far & wide! I have been searching for a new hair stylist for about 5 years and no one, i mean no one felt as comfortable and confident as Donna did with hair color and cutting.
