I had a terrible experience with Mordechai Levin, M.D., and would strongly advise against visiting this office. After my previous doctor unexpectedly passed away, I was in urgent need of a new physician to continue my medications. My insurance provider referred me to Dr. Levin, and when I called to explain my situation, the receptionist assured me they could accommodate me and get everything sorted out quickly. I emphasized that I only had two days' worth of medication left and needed a smooth transition. To prepare for my appointment, I even paid $30 to have my full medical records transferred from my previous doctor's office. I arrived 30 minutes early to complete the necessary paperwork, only to find it was far more extensive than expected, taking up a significant amount of time. After submitting the paperwork, I then waited over an hour in the waiting room as they processed my insurance and co-pay. Once I was finally called back, I spoke briefly with a nurse before being left to wait another 25 minutes. When Dr. Levin eventually came in, he told me he had reviewed my records and would be happy to help me moving forward. However, within minutes, he left the room and returned with a business card for another doctor, telling me I needed to see them instead. He claimed he would call ahead to ensure I could be seen immediately, given that I was down to my last day of medication. Following his instructions, I walked across the office building to find the referred doctor, only to discover that the suite number on the card wasn't even a doctor's office. After returning to Dr. Levin's office for clarification, they provided me with the correct suite number--but when I finally arrived, I found the office completely closed and had been for over an hour. This made it clear that they never actually arranged for me to be seen and had wasted my time entirely. Not only did I spend half my day dealing with this mess, but I also had to drive 30 minutes each way in L.A. traffic for absolutely nothing. It became obvious that their priority wasn't patient care, but rather finding ways to bill insurance for unnecessary visits. While waiting in the reception area, I overheard them calling patients, pushing them to come in for physicals "covered by insurance," which only reinforced my suspicions. To top it all off, the staff seemed amused by my frustration, holding back laughter as I left--despite the fact that I remained respectful and composed the entire time. The whole experience was beyond disappointing, and I wouldn't trust this office with my care ever again. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Frustrated, he went back to Dr. Levin's office for clarification and was given the correct location--only to arrive and find the office closed for the day. He wasted hours of his time, not to mention a stressful 30-minute drive in Los Angeles traffic each way, only to leave without the care he needed. Adding to the frustration, while he was stuck waiting at Dr. Levin's office, the receptionists kept calling other patients, trying to convince them to come in for unnecessary physicals just because insurance covered them. It was clear their priority was profit, not patient care. What makes this worse is that my son remained polite and patient the entire time, yet the staff showed zero professionalism or empathy. As he left, they even seemed amused by the whole ordeal. This was an incredibly frustrating and disheartening experience. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. I recently had to find a new primary MD. This is a stressful change. I changed my insurance in January. I really hit the lottery with their office. Today I saw Jemmilyn Stearns PA and it was an amazing experience. She was engaged, listened, offered her suggestions, as I need a couple of referrals and really gave me peace of mind. The office staff is next level. Misty is absolutely incredible, she already had started on my referral before I even left the office. In this challenging economic climate, coupled with the complexity of managed care, this office made it look, seamless, easy and stress free. I have a relatively high bar for customer service. I am completely confused by the high ratings this doctor and his office receives. I came to see Dr. Soufer as a new patient based on his incredibly high reviews. The appointment itself was neutral. He seemed rushed and didn't really answer a lot of my questions, or gather much of my patient history. He seemed genuinely disinterested. It was maybe 10-15 minutes of rushed conversation. I complained that I can't breath when I lay down, and he sent me to get my gallbladder checked out. The day of my appointment, I'm asked to change into my gown, and the ultrasound tech pulls out a device and tells me that she's actually out of network and I have to pay ~$250 or else she couldn't do my ultrasound. At this point, I'm mostly naked, took the morning off for my appointment, and hadn't eaten or drank water in 12 hours, so I just paid it. Apparently, my gallbladder was fine, but the office NEVER notified me. I had to call to receive my results, and the doctor never followed up. Which is inconvenient, because I still can't breath when I lay down! The real icing on the cake, however, was receiving a bill for $500 for that appointment. I checked the CPT codes, and they billed me the wrong codes, making for a significantly more expensive bill. When I called, the receptionist was rude and dismissive and just told me to email them again. The 5 star reviews must be by friends or people in his close community, because this doctor was lackluster at best, and his office is absolutely unethical. Keep looking if you're looking for a new doctor. read more

My entire family had to take COVID test. We were stressed out but the office staff were so patient, calming and understanding. The nurse who did the test was so nice and gentle ( I had some very nervous kids in my car) few days after the test she called and checked on us. She was very informative and helped us a lot to understand what we are dealing with and what we need to do. The thing that I loved was his direct manner. He was able to balance a qualified and comforting bedside manner with a very "from the hip" style of delivery. I come from a long line of Military and I was an LAPD officer. When talking about life and death, there is no other way to present information, than to be direct and to the point. I'm happy to have a true regular medical doctor now. Worth the drive for sure. Sherman Oaks to Santa Clarita is about 29 minutes, without traffic. BTW, I must acknowledge his staff. Dr. Soufer has been my primary care for a number of years now and I cannot tell you how wonderful he is. I came to him at a time when I had a critical leg injury that ER doctors hadn't been able to take care of. Dr. Soufer didn't waste any time getting me to the right treatment and care, yet all the while, keeping his composure so as not to alarm me. His office followed up with me until my leg healed up 100%. He is not only a caring and thorough doctor, he is kind, gentle and has a great sense of humor. He listens and spends time with you. I came here on time for my appointment but I waited 45 minutes until seeing Dr. Soufer. As I told him about my lower back pain and tailbone pain, he didn't even bother to check throughly instead just brushed me off with his nurse. He excused me and walk out the room and didn't bother came back. His nurse cam back and hand me a card to a pain management doctor and telling me she is giving me a shot. I was shocked how rude Dr.soufer is and his unprofessional manner. He didn't even tell me what shot he is providing me and he didn't even bother to properly tell me that he is ending my session. Do NOT go to this doctor. I went to see him 2 weeks ago for a physical. Many blood tests were conducted, including urine, cholesterol, blood cell count, and urine. Having one physical a year, it is understandably stressful waiting for results. I know (now) that the office received my results 3 days after i was in the office. I never received a call, and calls to the office went unreturned. Yesterday, a very rude front desk woman called me to tell me that I would have to PAY FOR ANOTHER APPOINTMENT to find out my results, and that the doctor would not be able to call me. Additionally, the doctor had "concerns". Imagine the stress. A follow up call from a doctor to discuss results is not only expected, but obligatory. It is then my decision to go back. I actually had to call the lab (Quest) and jump through 15 hoops to get results directly and then have another doctor look at them for me. Imagine that! And the front desk woman said she "didn't appreciate" me challenging her and asking why i needed him to call me. This is, in fact, and example of an assembly line doctor office. No care is given to individual patients... the fact that they made me wait 2 hours on the day of my appointment was horrible, but gets lost with everything that has happened since. And this could all have been avoided by doing the right thing, which is to call me upon receiving results. This is what every other *ethical* doctor's office would do. Went to this doctor today to be seen after a car accident and it was beyond frustrated by the incompetence of the staff. First, the girl who took my call on Tuesday to schedule the appointment apparently never put the appointment in the schedule. The effects of this were twofold: first I had to take an earlier appointment, making me miss more work. Second, I did not get an email with the paperwork to fill out before the appointment, so I had to fill out paperwork when I got there which pushed my appointment back almost half an hour. I also told the person I initially made the appt with that I was coming in to be seen for an auto accident because my lawyer wanted to make sure that I had a medical doctor beyond just my chiropractor evaluating for the auto accident. However, when I told the women at the office that I had a lawyer, they informed me that they don't do attorney liens, and wouldn't be able to see me for the accident. So basically this office wasted half of my day when I could've been at work. I also could have found another doctor if the employee I spoke with on Tuesday had told me they wouldn't work with an attorney lien. Now it's the end of the week, and I likely won't be able to find another doctor for next week, when it will have been over two weeks since the accident. Maybe the doctor is good, but his office is beyond unprofessional. read more

I had to leave this Dr. after a few incidents that left a bad taste in my mouth. First off, on ZOCDOC and on here people keep saying how he has a "wonderful bedside manner". There was nothing wonderful about it. If anything he was kind of quiet and creepy. I have noticed a trend of women stating he has a wonderful bedside manner but there is a definite lack of men making the same comment. Maybe he flirts with women in a certain way or something. I didn't see anything positive about his bedside manner. Second, I saw him 3 times. The first time he kept me waiting for 15 minutes. The second time I saw him he kept me waiting for 30 minutes. The fourth time I saw him he kept me waiting for 45 minutes. Third, on my first visit I went in because I was having a pain in my rib, which I couldn't figure out. He asked me if I wanted a message to see if that would help and I said sure considering he said it might help, at this point I was looking for relief wherever I could get it. Skip ahead a month later when I get the bill and this asshole charged me $75.00 for one of the shittiest massages that did absolutely nothing in the long run for my problem(the rib eventually just stopped hurting on it's own months later) Most of the $75.00 message was not even covered by insurance. But the worst thing about this is that he made no indication that it would be an extra charge at all. I consider this lying by omission and an extremely shady and shitty thing to do. Fourth, on my second visit he had me go to the lab and get blood drawn to see my levels of cholesterol. While there, I made sure to ask his assistant if I needed to fast before the blood was drawn. She asked me what it was for. I told her it was for cholesterol. She said fasting was NOT necessary. So I did not fast and had my blood taken. Upon coming in for my third appointment the Dr. pulled up my levels. Now I should state that on the second visit he told me to cut out red meat, fried food and dairy for 3 months. I did this and was very strict on myself. So fast forward to him seeing my levels after the 3 months and having my blood drawn without fasting. He immediately starts chastising me for my high numbers. I ask him if the fact that I didn't fast would have anything to do with the levels and he laughed in my face and said of course. So I tell him his assistant told me it wouldn't be necessary to fast and he told me that his assistant would have never told me that and that I was wrong. When I pushed back and informed him that she did he then pivoted and tried to tell me that my levels would be "horrible" regardless of the fasting or not. This seems highly unlikely due to me following his directions and cutting out the above mentioned bad foods. I felt he was trying to scam me for another visit because he insisted I go have my blood taken again after a fasting. I asked him if he would pay for it since his assistant screwed up and he laughed and told me no. So I walked out of there and never looked back. This guy is a scam artist and is rude as all hell. Oh and never expect any kind of explanation or reason to this asshole being late. AVOID! read more

UPDATE: The billing department finally called me and told me they would waive the bill on my "second" visit because of how poorly I was treated. I also got a call from Dr. Soufer personally apologizing for how it was handled. The billing department was incredibly helpful and understanding, and Dr. Soufer did everything to make sure that I was putting my health first. I still may find another practice for myself because of the mistakes from earlier, but they clearly went out of their way to make sure that I was more satisfied with my visit. Don't go here. Dr. Soufer seems professional and knowledgeable but the office WILL do everything they can to screw you. They charged me for multiple physicals even though I only wanted one. I went in, and they asked I see the Doctor before getting my bloodwork. That appointment consisted of the nurse taking my height and weight and the doctor telling me to go to get my blood work. They don't have in-house blood lab, and their preferred Lab didn't take my insurance.... But no one told me that until weeks later. Then they called me back in to discuss my blood work and charged me for a second physical. I also asked if I could just have my results over the phone and they refused. Dr. Soufer told me I'm mostly healthy and to watch what I eat. That's it. Clearly, they should have told me to get my blood work prior to the physical. It was a huge waste of money (and they have ridiculous rates). It took me 4 hours to speak with someone about my bill after being transferred 3 times. I was then told the billing department was closed at 10 am on a Wednesday. That story changed to the "billing person" is gone today as soon as I showed confusion about why they were closed. When I finally called someone, the response to my issues with being charged twice was akin to "you should have gone somewhere else then." In all, Dr. Soufer seems like a smart guy, but the bureaucracy at the office is not only shameful but inefficient. read more

My 90-year-old father was admitted to the hospital and Dr. Soufer took over the supervision of his medical care. Too say that I was impressed would be understatement! Dr. Soufer showed incredible bedside manner and patience in dealing with my father and his concerns in addition, to providing a wealth of knowledge about the medical situation, his genuine care and support to my father and the entire family. DR Soufer is a great person , knowledgeable, compassionate and smart doctor and his office staff is very professional, thorough and well chosen . I can't thank enough to Dr Soufer, his associate Dr Nikamal and Sharlene our nurse and the rest of the office staff for the great professionalism and compassionate care they've been providing us for the past four years. He is always there for us when we need him. He is very experienced, always prescribes the right meds, the right blood/imaging diagnostics testing to insure good healthy living for an 85 years old father and his aging fifty something son :) The office staff is very pleasant to work with, appointments, in office or tele visits are scheduled and held in a timely manner and communication is always running via phone and email using electronic records that are always at patient's disposal. Also he has a great network of specialist doctors that he works closely with , in case specialized care or needs are there, including hospital or nursing facility If you're looking for a good doc to take care of your health needs he is the one. I think the most important thing in primary care physician is a sense of trust and reliability in knowing that your doctor is looking out for what's best for patient health, and to that endeavor Dr Soufer is definitely someone who leaves you with the feeling that his first priority is proper care and treatment. I have visited him several times and sent my father to him as well, I've never had a situation with billing or other extraneous issues that he wasn't quick to resolve. I started to go to Dr. Soufer about a year ago when I switched insurance. I couldn't be happier. I had a medical condition that caused some generic symptoms. Dr. Soufer worked with me to help me find the cause of my condition. He showed deep care keeping me updated throughout the process and referred me out for items that were not his speciality making sure that I had the best care. No matter which doctor he referred me to I was greeted and it was obvious that he took the time to call ahead to make sure that I had the best when I arrived. read more
