great beer great food. Nothing beats the fresh peanut butter stout. Good service and good food

It had been a while since I went to this location. If I do come to this location is usually to have a beer or two. Years ago I tried their burger, which it was good. However, today I was really bummed. I order the poke bowl, the rice tasted days old. Not soft, it was hard. Either it was dry and old or it was over cooked. I only ate the toppings. I also ordered the wings and the wings were over cooked that were hard to eat. I could have complained, but I had a long day, had been up since 4 am and I was starving. A large group of us have been coming to your establishment for many months for Trivia night on Thursdays. This past Thursday night (Jan 8), we attended, and not one of your outdoor heaters were working. It was extremely cold, and with a huge turn out of people for the event. As I looked around, people were wearing heavy jackets and blankets wrapped around them. It was quite uncomfortable. Is there something you can do? Maybe move it inside or get some new heaters? My daughter and I stopped in for a quick bite & brew at Belching Beaver Pub 980 on a WED night and it was really great. I've been to the Belching Beaver Restaurant in Vista a number of times but this was our first time at the Pub...I have to say I think I prefer it. It has a number of tables outside with a few fire pits which is great. The interior has a great outdoorsy/beaver dam vibe throughout. There is a lot of space with elevated tables and a number of TV's with live sports. They have a cool merch area and of course you can see the giants vats. There is a central bar/kitchen that is the focus of the space for good reason. I had their Pomalo Pale Ale which was crisp and clean and then had their Peanut Butter Milk Stout w/ their Must Be The Honey Blonde Ale (their version of a black & tan) and it was so great. They also have Stubborn Sodas available. While the beers are always worth it, it's the kitchen that makes this place so great. Many breweries have a food truck slot, which is cool, but Pub 980 has a full kitchen that is making really great food. We had the Classic Burger, the Impossible Classic Burger, Nashville Sliders with fries, tater tots and onion rings which were all fantastic. The one flaw in the experience was that the service was hit or miss. There was a great young man that was bussing tables and helping out but the two women serving the beers were less than enthusiastic and didn't want to be there. It wasn't enough to knock a star off, and maybe they were just having an off night, but it was enough that it was worth mentioning. All in all, this is one of the best Brewery Tap Rooms in the area and we will definitely be back here again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! read more

What's up: Continuing on our brewery trek, we hit Belching Beaver as our next stop. I've been here once before and had enjoyed their Peanut Butter Milk Stout. Can you guess what I'm gonna order this time around? lol Parking: We came a bit after 1 pm and parking was plentiful. We managed to get a spot right up front and close by the entrance. Environment: Walking in, you'll see their merch section to the immediate right and straight ahead is the order counter and menu. There were plenty of tables to choose from; you can also sit at the counter. Restrooms can be found towards the left and are clearly marked. Music was at a good volume and the vibe was nice. They had string lights hanging and a camping theme setup with the greenery and tent decor. What was ordered: - Peanut Butter Milk Stout (creamy and yummy peanut butter flavor. I love the Belching Beaver in Downtown Vista; While the service was great and the atmosphere was great as well, the food unfortunately wasn't that good. I ordered a burger and fries; The burger was bland and had no seasoning and the fries weren't that crispy. However, I recieved great service after the complaints and got a chicken sandwich after that; It was better but still not that great with the same issue of lack of flavor. I will come back for the beer but probably skip on the food next time. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Belching Beaver Pub. We got a table outside on a beautiful day and it was SO relaxing. Our waitress was one of the best we have ever had. She was super friendly and helpful. We ordered a mixed drink that didn't really live up to what the menu was describing, and she made sure to tell management and they compensated the drink. They want to make sure you are having the best experience you can. We ordered a couple flights and by the time we were finished ordering, the drinks were already out to us. It was incredible!! Tried Belching Beaver today after a local soccer game and loved it! The food was great (ALL OF IT!) and the staff were amazing. They really made me and my family (including the kiddos) feel right at home. The pretzel bites were so good we had to place a 2nd order. I also loved the good variety of beers they had. Everything at the Belching Beaver is top notch. From the minute you're seated the server is there for your drink order and ready to take your food order when your drink is delivered. The food and music is great it's the fucking flies. Close the garage doors get new dumpsters and maybe power wash that area around it. I love this place but it will be the last time I eat here. Reposition the dumpsters further away from the restaurant. Absolutely disgusting how many flies are in this place my whole party spent more time swatting flies then talking or eating. read more

This was our second stop on brewery hoping. I had their beer many times but never been to their brewery. Have to say this Bleching Beaver Pub location is very nice. They have a nice spacious indoor and outdoor areas. Their beers are pretty good. I definitely enjoyed their Hazy's here. If you're into shouts. They are known for their Peanut Butter Shout. As for the food. We all thought it was great except for one of my order. FOOD: Fried Cauliflower and Leeks: This was good Loaded Philly Tots: This was fantastic. Their tots and fries were fried perfectly. Crispy on the outside and creamy inside. These were damn dddicting. Chili Con Queso: This was good as well. Beaver Burger: It was a good size burger but the patty was dry and under season. Dessert we ordered the yummy churro donuts to share. I know it's a brewery but the food here is really good. Sometimes I come here just for the food. If I also end up drinking some beer, we call that "win win." On Fridays and Saturdays they offer birria tacos. They are on the greasy side but in a good way. I thought they were delicious. Their poke is good. Their French fries are outrageously good. This is the third Belching Beaver location that we've been to and it was awesome! This was my first time trying their Death by Blueberry beer and it was amazing. It was light and fruity without being overwhelmingly sweet! I loved the hint of blueberry. It was refreshing and enjoyable to drink. I always get the peanut butter milk stout because it's one of my favorite stouts but I was very pleased with this blueberry beer! This visit I also discovered how delicious their food is. We ordered Dave's classic burger with fries. The burger was great. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. They were delicious fries. We also ordered the pear and passion salad that was filled with field greens, quinoa, bleu cheese crumbles, candied almonds, cran-raisins and lilikoi vinaigrette. I loved all the flavors and textures of this salad. The dressing was sweet and added a unique fruity flavor. It was all great! I highly recommend Belching Beaver for a beer and great food! read more

Tucked away between industrial buildings is this fabulous brewery with indoor and outdoor seating.   We were dying to try with all the great reviews and we love their pb stout.   There was some confusion on how to be seated at a table as no one acknowledged us at the door.   So we walked through and tried to sit at a table outside and again no employees to greet us. Finally flagged someone down and was told go ahead and sit anywhere.  So we chose a great picnic bench outside under a nice tree.  The outdoor area is fantastic with all the old style wood chairs and trees.  Super relaxing.   Soft pretzel $13 it was massive.  Perfect texture and served with beer cheese, spicy beer cheese and me so honey mustard. Chicken tenders $8. Crispy fingers and tender fries. Good Cuban sandwich.  So good!  Roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese and pickles in French bread. I love Belching Beaver beer and food. In my opinion, this food is surprisingly one of the best brewery pub eats that you can find. It's basic. It's fun. I always get their chicken wings, chicken tender baskets and fries. It's hard to find good chicken tenders, but they've got the right touch. I also recently ate an entire one of their flatbreads, so obviously it was delicious. Highly recommend! Lastly, the beers are the important part and it's a no brainer. They do it very well and I'd consider them an anchor to the San Diego brew scene as well as a heavyweight contender as one of the better breweries on the west coast. Well done! My friends who are local recommended this place for their peanut butter stout and tots. It was SOOO delicious. I personally LOVED the tots more than the beer but the beer was delicious too. It's very nutty so kind of reminds you of a chocolate beer. It was a bit heavy for me so I only had one glass. My husband had one of their IPAs and he loved both! They have great food and beer. It's COVID-19 and at the time of my visit, LA and Orange County are restricting people from dining indoors. San Diego is able to dine indoors, but Pub 980 is only having dining outside, and an entree is needed if you are going to purchase alcohol. There are no reservations, so we decided to show up early at 11:45 on a Saturday to get a shady spot for lunch. We were the 2nd group in the place, so rest assured, the early bird really does get the worm. The menu has a purple and yellow section, which means if you are drinking, you have to order at least 1 item from the yellow, an entree size item. We chose to split the Cubano, and ordered the Cauliflower and Leaks, along with a full size order of Onion Rings, and some Buffalo style wings. Seriously everything was great. I couldn't find any fault with our visit so it's a 5 star review. Food was good, drinks were good, and the way they kept the place as sanitized as possible made me feel "safe". Use your GPS to find it, as its tucked in an industrial part of town. They have sodas for those who are the Designated one. read more

Definitely our new go to of the Belching Beaver breweries, little did I know this is the original! This place is so cute, it's in more of a quiet area so if you're looking for a night to go to multiple spots this isn't your go to. BUT if you're looking to have a nice family night and bring the kid and dog this is it. Their patio is super cute. They have lots of seating, sandy lot and fire pits/heaters with music playing. Inside is so RAD. I wish we didn't have our dog almost ha, pool table, sweet plant wall with high top tables. Food is delicious, I love its a walk up window with a massive condiments bar. All for you to grab, which I personally love. (Ranch, ketchup, hot sauce options, Togo boxes) It's a sweet environment you should go check it out especially if you enjoy their beers! read more

The ambience at this pub is absolutely amazing. I truly love the camping and outdoor atmosphere. They have a fantastic selection of beer, and a decent food menu. I appreciate the different options for sizes of beer. The team member was also fantastic who helped us. While the food was tasty, it would be nice to have a few healthier options on the menu. All of the food that my table ordered was very greasy. Having options with less grease would be nice. That said they were still fantastic and tasted great. read more

We got there after the lunch crowd, 3/4 of the tables were not bussed, so we had to wait for them to clear enough room for 3 tables. I had read the reviews beforehand and knew there were some who mentioned slow service. So I was prepared. I thought to myself, 'Ok, here we go'. Come to find out, there was only ONE waitress in the whole place - HANNAH. And she was fantastic. She had the tables bussed in no time and didn't even flinch when we asked for separate checks (there were approx 20 of us)! Wow ... what a great attitude. We ordered wings ($5 Wing Wednesday) and tots all around - you gotta love crunchy tots, right? Ha. I don't do beer, but everyone else said theirs was great. I ended up ordering the Poke Bowl on lettuce instead of rice. When it came I was kinda surprised at how small it was for $13. BUT, it was SO tasty and there was SO much fish, I ended up thinking it was worth the money (At my favorite Poke place, it's $12/bowl and they give a much smaller amount). The feel of the pub was fun and relaxing, kinda like you're at the beach (or a campground). We ate outside - I appreciate there were plenty of covered, shady tables as well as those out in the sun. We could be loud, laugh and carry on without bothering anyone (at least we thought!). It was so fun. I'll be back with my hubs soon, I know he wants to try the Peanut Butter Milk Stout. Tucked away in the back of the Business Park complex, this is the original Belching Beaver tasting room reincarnated as something like a combo brewerry/fern bar/sports bar. If you remember the space from several years ago, now it is bigger, probably 3x the area indoors, and the outdoor seating is much the same. We checked it out on a Thursday and at 5:30 it was very busy, almost full with the beer after work crowd. From about 6 the numbers decreased steadily. The cielings are very high and the big roll up doors were open so plenty of ventilation, although a bit chilly as the evening went on. The beers aren't bad but the Beaver tends to fairly sweet beers which aren't my first choice. The food was good, we had the poke and some fries while our friends had a Cubano and a chicken wrap. All the portions were on the generous side and tasty. The tuna in the poke was sweet and fresh, but had a noticable amount of connective tissue so not the prime cut. Not bad fish quality for a pub I guess (vs a sushi place where I would expect better). All in all, a good pub style spot to have your favorite Belching Beaver brew with good food options. read more
