We haven't been to 508 Tavern in a while, but it's good to see local businesses maintaining their consistency. Service is always good and attentive, the brews are refreshing, and the food menu still offers our favorites. As a bonus they offer many daily specials. This is a long due update... Service has drastically improved as well as Happy Hours specials, seating, staff and the possibility to seat outside in a covered patio! In my previous (3 stars) review, I highlighted a huge disappointment in wait time. However, the last 2 times I went there, the service was prompt and professional, the food awas as good as before, not to say better thus I must update to 4 stars! As I am such a creature of habit this is, after many years, still one of our staple go to spots. It's just off the Paseo Vista downtown/south Santa Fe Ave area. I absolutely L*O*V*E when there's good consistency to places. The spicy Korean bbq tacos continue to be amazing!!! Cheese curds delish! And a tall wonderful pineapple cider is appreciated. While we were drinking at Burgeon Beer Co. (across the street), we saw a QR code on our table to different restaurants from which we could order food from and have it delivered right to our table. Just make sure to add the note, "Burgeon at the Grove," at check out so they know where it should be delivered. I absolutely loved our experience. I have been suggested multiple times by trusted restaurant industry friends and finally made it out. So unassuming!!!! Tiny tiny little space with a big outdoor build-out. Fam and dog friendly. Group friendly. Draft list awesome and I'm a buyer. Had checked out their Yelp and website. Weekly specials. We happened to go when there were $1.25 wings and you can mix and match flavors. I didn't even order them for myself but bit a friends. Both flavors were super yummy and even when tossed, the skins were crisp through the sauce. Both flats and drums. I'm a tiny bite person and ordered hummus. Don't judge. Came out just as the website suggested in their photo. Consistency is everything. Thoroughly yummy for chat nibbling at $11, great 'share with a friend' food. Hands down the SERVICE!!!!!! We arrived shortly after they opened and I'm currently randomly on crutches so we sat closest/easiest outside. Our Server Deity, Lalah, was: 1) able to answer all of my random questions regarding menu and restaurant history/ownership 2) humorous 3) attentive and.... as the patio filled up, I saw how many regulars arrived that she unrolled the welcome mat for. The sliders and tacos were good but it took forever to come out. Burgers were pink in the middle and the buns were fresh. I'm not sure how their tap water tastes so terrible, like the ice had been in the freezer too long or something. The fries and cheese curds were maybe 3 stars. Parking is... Interesting, there's a lot but it's most a free for all and crumbling asphalt. Still better than street parking. Staff were nice and there's a ton of seating with the patio. It was a Saturday adventure. Hubby chose 508 tavern. We were looking for somewhere new to try. They had a little parking lot behind the restaurant. And we parked there. When we walked in, it's a tiny bar with bar seating and some tables. The patio is THE place to be. There are a couple of high table tops, some picnic tables and patio chairs and tables. It's very chill. We ordered mango habanero wings , sure and turf tacos and calamari. Everything was super fresh!!! We found our new place for wings!!!! Yay!!! The tacos I had were surf and turf tacos. Fresh fish tacos and Korean beef tacos. So delicious I even ate the onions!!! The calamari looked a little greasy, but honestly, the batter was so light!!!it was delicious!!! We will be back! Have to add that this place is dog friendly. read more

My friends would rave about 508 Tavern and it's long been on my list to try out. The main reason we didn't try earlier is because they don't have A/C and it was a bit on the smaller side. If you don't find a seat inside, you're relegated to sit on the patio which I think used to be their parking lot. Parking is on the street, so you may have to walk a bit. Being November, we opted to try Taco Tuesday. Most of the tacos are around the $2-3 mark and the reviews were all positive. We came and ordered all the tacos, each of us got three different one. We also got some beer, wine and a milk shake. The tacos were just "ok" to me, really not that special. They are street taco sized, and we've had much better versions at other places and food trucks. The Spicy Korean BBQ taco was not spicy and had too much liquid in it (see pic). The shrimp taco was my favorite of all I tried. The included tiny salsa had zero heat. The venue is very small, but there are two TV's inside and the chairs are padded (but the bench inside is not). They have about 10 beers on draft along with a draft cider and kombucha. (FYI - the blonde is very light & tasty, would recommend). Service was good, even though they were quite busy around 5:30pm. There is no happy hour, only daily specials (i.e. Taco Tuesday, Wing Wednesday, Thirsty Thurs, Slider Saturday, etc.) and beer prices are around $8 for a pint. I would be willing to try the wings & sliders, but for tacos I'd think we would pass on trying those again. read more

After reading a bunch of reviews on Yelp saying how delicious and flavorful the food was here, and specifically the fish tacos, I decided to give it a try to satisfy a fish taco craving. Bottom line, fish tacos were generally flavorless other than the batter flavor. The lemon flavor in the lemon crema on them barely detectable. There were two lemon 1/2 wheels that came with them (one had some rot in the rind and was disgusting looking), like you might find on the rim of an iced tea so there was no option to bolster the citrus flavor. No detectable seasoning or flavor other than the batter taste. The fish was nice and light, but also didn't deliver much fish flavor. The portion size was good and satisfying. However, with the one-note flavor the whole dish was very unsatisfying considering I was trying to satisfy a craving. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good and nowhere close to great or flavorful as other reviews have claim. I won't be returning and suspect after trying the food that most of the reviews were purchased and/or written by AI. read more

Our first visit to 508 we were greeted by Katie, who explained the history of the restaurant and a description of their menu. We decided on the BBQ Korean tacos and the S. Santa Fe Sliders with Parmesan Garlic Fries. Both were absolutely delicious! Our second visit the following week we were greeted by LaLa who is a gift of wonderful quick witted humor and kindness. We felt so at Home! On to the food, we ordered a very fresh and delicious Caprese salad and Sliders, you can add a variety of toppings, and their amazing fries. The "piece de Resistance" was the dessert, a Crispy waffle, cooked to perfection, a drizzle of syrup, a .large scoop of Butter Pecan Ice Cream, sprinkled with pecans and topped with whipped cream! The best dessert I have ever had! I might add that Shelly the owner stopped by our table to ensure we were happy. This is a great little place in Vista. My dad has lived in the area for most of my life and I love how it's developed recently and this place is a great addition. The people working there are very nice and I love that there's both indoor and outdoor seating options. They have great prices and even had a deal on wine when we visited. The highlight for me was the stuffed fried olives. My goodness they are delicious! There's a ponzu sauce they serve it with that makes them absolutely perfect. We visited 508 for lunch on a Saturday. We had no problem finding a table. The interior is pretty small, but there's a large patio in the back that has a lot of seating. The waitress was very friendly and took great care of us. We ordered a lot of different food and split it between the group. All of the food was great! My favorite was the pacific coast sliders. The meat was juicy and the burger had great flavor. The Parmesan garlic criss cut fries were loaded with fresh garlic and had a very strong garlic flavor. The candied pecan salad was fresh and tasty. There's a lot of different beers on tap to choose from also. This place had great food and is a fun place to have a beer or a meal! I definitely recommend coming here! read more

Popped in Saturday night and what a great little hole in the wall. I saw the great food reviews and we weren't disappointed. I was immediately served a nice glass of Chardonnay when I told her that's what I like to drink. My husband had the alpine duet ipa. We shared the Korean Tacos which were fantastic and 2 sliders ( 1 blue cheese/meat and 1 spicy chicken)Both were very good but the blue cheese one really stood out. The service was fantastic. I thought I heard our server say her name was Robin. My son who goes frequently thinks this place is women owned. Maybe Robin was an owner. Either way they have a fun local feel establishment. Our waitress was so nice and made small talk with us. It was a cozy place that you could tell was a nice comfy local hangout. Food was really good and cheap (for my standards, I'm from San Diego lol). Specifically I remember the chicken in the sliders being tender and juicy while not being overly seasoned or fried up. Saw good things on Yelp about the 508 Tavern. I went in early afternoon last Thursday, and Alicia welcomed me with a big smile, gave me a menu, and told me about the specials (I had the XL burger and a draft IPA),. Alicia recommended her favorite draft (Society!), and served it to me cold and super quick. The burger was truly excellent - great, fresh, juicy beef grilled perfectly. This is a friendly place where people strike up conversations with whomever they are sitting near, which is very pleasant. I love this place. Beer selection is great, staff is always great and the food is always delicious. Some of my favorites are the wings, sandwiches and soft pretzel. They've got a tiny front patio and a large back patio that are dog friendly so we bring our dog. Pretty sure I left a travel water bowl of hers here lol. I've been in vista my entire 35 years of Life. I don't fancy this side of vista.. I bought a condo behind the courthouse ten years ago and decided to venture over into this area as they slowly gentrified downtown vista.. boy am I glad I did. I found this gem.. it is woman owned for starters and has the best taco I've ever had. They have won awards for their Korean taco. My stepdad and I come here every Saturday at noon. They welcome us in with hugs and funny conversations . Their regulars are consistent and very sweet too. They also bring in love Music. Quality food ingredients and care in preparation, but options are a bit limited, so we don't visit as much as we might if they were to expand the menu. Taco Tuesday is the best, and the rotating craft beer on tap (on a screen inside) to try is a great idea (vs. fixed choices at some places). Service is generally friendly and reasonably efficient by virtue of using food runners from the kitchen. Most of the seating is in an outside patio facing the street, so summer evenings are crowded and winter evenings can be chilly, but easier to find seating.
