My favorite park. A lot of wildlife from birds (eagles, herons, even the occasional kingfisher) to salmon to shellfish and bugs. Wildflowers. Camping and clean bathrooms though I've never camped - it's a great place. Shallow creek area perfect for kids to swim. Just be aware of salmon season - and to respect them. Amazing place to observe nature. read more

This is a great park, as far as we know! We had no incidents, and loved the scenery all around. We found our campsite adequate and thought many around us looked pleasant as well. The bathrooms were clean and everyone we ran into was friendly. We loved the different varieties of water around, including the canal and also a cheerful creek running through the grounds. read more

Very small park! I wouldn't recommend strollers unless you want to stay on the grassy area . We went to the water so I brought my child in a pack. We went at low tide so he could play in the water . Remember this is a mud flat and there are oysters all around and clams . So be watchful . Was still a really cool experience got to see three baby eagles , quiet , get ready to get muddy! read more

We stayed three nights, mid-week. Tent camping in the tree loop. The tree loop campground is lovely, well-cared-for, clean and feels safe, with huge old-growth (?) trees and easy access to a sweet little beach. HOWEVER... the tree loop sites are small, tightly packed and lack enough vegetation to give them any visual privacy. The real problem, though, is the NOISE. We camp in many campgrounds, have for years, and we have a good idea of what normal noise levels are in the summer when sites are full. This was way above normal. We were shocked by the utter lack of consideration the campers had for other people around them. Worse offenders: People with dogs. We were surrounded on three sides by constantly barking dogs. It was like three days of camping in a dog pound. On our last evening the people in the site next to us (like six feet away from our picnic table) had a big, loud social gathering that ruined our enjoyment of our site. We escaped to the beach for some quiet, then put in earplugs, zipped into our tent and were still assaulted by the loud conversations right up to quiet hours. Meanwhile, the people on the other side of us violated quiet hours with a loud ongoing conversation to the point where someone from another site got out of bed, went over there and yelled (actually swore) at them to shut up. The campground staff could and should do a much better job of educating people on what constitutes good behavior and consideration for others in a densely packed "community" of people sharing the outdoors. Especially with controlling dog barking. We won't be back. read more

We came here for a camp out weekend with my mom and dad and honestly I was like "What Podunk place are we going to? But there's nothing in Belfair!" I tried to be positive but seriously, there was a reason I had not come back to Belfair in like two decades. There truly was nothing out there the last time I had unwillingly rolled through. Just a gas station and a super sketch Safeway and some mom and pop places I was too scared to even try. Enter Belfair State Park. I was pleasantly, truly and really surprised. For one thing, it was CLEAN. Our RV spot was raked and the fire pit was free of debris. The RV hookups had been updated and there was full electricity, water and sewage hookups in most of the RV spots. We had some great climbing trees in our section and though a trail ran right next to us we were never disturbed by the other campers or their dogs. And my god the people picked up their dog poop!! They actually did! Only once during our many romps through the fields and trails did I find an unscooped dog poo. And even though there were flocks of geese flying over head I didn't see huge piles of geese droppings either. I was amazed. It wasn't just our area either, the tent campsites seemed pretty clean too. We roamed through LO's of trails that wound their way between camps and dog owner's were doing their duty (heh heh). The grass fields were kept nice. There was lots of open space to run around and toss a frisbee or play an impromptu game of soccer or volleyball. I even saw a couple of kite fliers amongst the many family groups, some church groups, and day use picnic goers. There was quite a lot of people here but it never felt crowded and there was ample parking. Remember to have your $30 annual Discover Pass posted and to pay the $10 daily use fee when you come, the park rangers patrol often and from our interactions have been pleasant. There are several creeks running through out to the inlet and they were also very clean. I'm not used to seeing such clean creek water. In fact I was even surprised at the lack of smell from the creek and the bay itself. Most of what I've experienced of Hood Canal was always accompanied by a very specific "beach smell" which can be good and sometimes very, very bad but here there was nothing and there was only a slight even breeze off the water. It was really refreshing just to be able to smell the trees and grass. The playground was nice, not too big that our three and four year old would get lost or trampled on by the other big kids but a good size. It had a tube slide and several climbing rocks with the softer, semi squishy playground bark which is great but only two individual swings and no available baby swing. The picnic tables were close and shaded by some good sized trees and that provided a great perching area for parents to linger at. We saw many people with their own pop up shade tents so bring them if you have the room. The playground was near a cool group enclosure that had large bay windows and big sliding barnyard styled doors that could close to keep out the breeze if needed. We saw several groups rent it over the long weekend so I'm sure you can find rates by calling in the park or checking online. It was also very close to some recently remodeled unisex and accessible restrooms. There were also two shower rooms and the individual restrooms were labeled to let you know that they had infant changing tables inside. The ones we used weren't smelly at all. Same goes for the not remodeled restrooms on the other side of the park closer to the ranger station and park entrance. Maybe we just got lucky as I've read from other reviews that there have been some bad experiences in this department. I'm just saying what happened to us. I've never known any park to use sprinklers on their grass but after each RV patron left a camp host volunteer would come out and set up water sprinklers over the vacated camp site and check around for any trash left behind. I was flabbergasted. We spent so much time running between the trails and the beach. Low tide is amazing! It goes really far out and it's really cool because at the time that we went shellfish season was open and the waters were cleared for harvesting which is unheard of in most other parts of Puget Sound. My mom quickly loaded up on her limit of Manila clams and they tasted divine. Rock crab too! No weird after effects either! Just be smart and thoroughly cook your harvests, people. And the rangers are watchful. Don't try to cheat the system. All in all we had a blast. I'm really grateful for that considering my preconceptions. I'm glad I had a refreshing change of heart. We will be back again for sure read more

This campground is the worst! Never coming back here. Save your money. I've stayed at most of the WA State campgrounds and the bathrooms here are terrible. Not well maintained and the sites are on top of each other. We had to listen to people's kids screaming all morning and night, but we were told to turn our super low music off by some junior g-woman in training named Olivia because quiet time was 30 minutes ago! Well it's been an hour since the and now I'm listen to someone's kid "play" the ukulele. But, it's quiet time! read more

We worked here as park hosts. Checking people in and out, watching the kids ride the bikes..making chalk figures on the asphalt...seeing the chum salmon run up the creeks. The bald eagles....I have a whole new view of Park rangers...keeping every one happy is beyond a full time job..Make sure you get a discovery pass $30.00 for the year...way better then paying every time...Clayton, the park ranger, and his crew do a great job... Pick your spot on line and pay is way easier then showing up and their booked.. We loved it there, will be back someday read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. We were at the park for less than 15 hours and got talked to at least 6-8 times by the hosts/Rangers. It was ridiculous I have never been babysat while camping in my life. We took my 67 year old aunt, my parents in their 50s and me and my boyfriend. None of us drink or our rowdy there was no need to hassle us. They came by at 10 and complained about the noise level we honestly weren't even being loud. They were like "we had a lot of complaints last night" well we werent there last night and had nothing to do with it. We got there after check in and had to self register they were by at the crack of dawn to talk to us about paying for the upcoming night. We were planning on staying multiple nights but packed up and left after one night. It was the worst campground I have ever been to! If you like being babysat this is the place for you. It's loud in the morning and not private at all. The workers are just plain rude. We will never return! read more

I started off in the Tree Loop, moved because of the road noise. Was able to move to T-22. Wonderful site! Level, full hook-ups, view of the water. Ranger told me that across the road (adjacent to the water) it can get kind of windy, so I was probably best of where I was. I was there in late October so it wasn't real busy. Got to watch some salmon swim upstream to spawn. The main loop was closed for the winter which made it a great place for dog walking. Would definitely stay here again. I didn't use the showers but they looked clean, restrooms were clean. read more

We did not camp ( so review on that ) but my son (4) and I went for a day trip. There is a playground we played at. (Fun) and my son spent a long time splashing in the stream that feed into the main water area. It was beautiful! I meet the park rangers family that were friendly and knowledgable about the area. The park itself is nice, the beach is great and water is warm for swimming. We camped in spot 59. I do not recommend any site in the 50's or lower 60's. They all butt up to the highway which has non-stop traffic all night. No breaks in the traffic noise at all. Sites are less than 25' from the road so it's like camping in traffic. Also, if you are worried about Covid exposure, this probably isn't the place for you. Maybe 25% compliance on mask wearing. It's was pretty crowded, even on Monday and Tuesday. read more

We love the Belfair State Park. Right on the Hood Canal, great little campsites, picnic sites, plenty of parking, attentive rangers, and a great little playground for the kids. Go skip stones in the early evening, you'll have a great time. read more

I stayed for 3 nights at cabin c1 because it is the only cabin which allows dogs. It was super loud from the street traffic. It didnt feel like i was out in nature due to the noise. Avoid cabins 1-2, RV spots T2,3,5,6-10, and camp spots 48-61,78. Near by bathrooms were disgusting. Cabins are basic with bunk style beds. But they do come with electricity and ac and heater. Although my heater was broken. It was nothing special. But if i were required to stay here, this is what i would do instead. Rent one of the cabins 5-8, near by the water and day use area and leave my dog at home. The day use area bathroom and shower facilities are much newer, cleaner. At the shower facility building, there are also 4 private bathrooms. I am not a fan of communal bathrooms so it was nice to have the option of the private ones. Make you have cash on you to purchase ice, firewoods, and shower tokens. read more

Great location however, the Rangers and support staff (who were NOT furloughed during COVID19) failed to maintain the campsites (evidenced by the lack of mown sites, maintenance of walking trails, etc - although they had time to remove or limit the # of trash cans!) as well as patrol to ensure that the basic rules all campers have come to appreciate were enforced, such as quiet times (and # of campers allowed per site - for example those across the way, 2 sites so max of 16 suddenly seemed to have nearly 30 and were also the same site that was up partying til 4am with no contact from the Rangers who are supposed to patrol and enforce the park rules!) But better yet, the same group allowed their small children to ride ATVs throughout the park until finally a Ranger stepped in but only after several hours of setting the state up for a potential lawsuit had something happened!!!! Funny too was that a Park Aid finally arrived to mow the entrance area today, a Saturday when the park is full rather than on a weekday when there's fewer campers to impact! Only wished the park had been maintained for those of us paying $50/night and all areas equally maintained, after all no one sleeps at or hangs out at the entrance/exit! Overall, beautiful location just poorly maintained! Come on Governor Inslee - time to focus on all your agencies not just DOH! read more

Well guess we will never know if it is a good park or not. My wife and I had 2 different weekends planned here this year, and they cancelled them both because of construction. I was O.K. with 1 because they gave plenty of advanced notice, and time to rework plans. The second one is the one that bothers me. They cancelled it on Tuesday, when it was booked for Friday. How do you wait until 3 days before to cancel a reservation. This parks planning sucks. Why would you plan repairs to the park during the height of camping season? The winters here are warm enough for construction, and not many people camp during that time. Thanks for ruining our weekend, and I will not give you the opportunity to cancel for a third time. read more

I see ridiculous reviews about Belfair, but honestly everyone has different taste. It's camping, come on now not everything is perfect and dandy as you wish. Yeah bathrooms are suppose to stink, so what? Whenever I went, the ladies restrooms are cleaned out every morning. Seems fine to me. And the beach? It's beautiful. Especially on super hot days. You can walk your pets out on the trails, too. The camp sites are great, you just gotta be smart and find a hidden dime. Yeah there's quiet time at 10 pm but it doesn't mean you have to go to sleep or whisper. My friends and I always stay past 10 pm, and trust me, we're not the quietest. But we try to keep it low because voices do echo. & the rangers drive by and wave and smile. No trouble. 5 stars because this place isn't too far, or too close from home. I go here everywhere summer, so I know what it's like. Last year there was a festival at the park. Everyone was welcome. It was cool seeing it so packed and full of activities. I know some people like their own space when camping, then I recommend you not going to ANY state parks. See ya in June Belfair! I'll be there :) read more

If you are one of the lucky ones and get a camping spot near the water, disregard this review. The campsite I had here was really close to the road and there was road noise until midnight every night making it hard to sleep. The bathrooms were not as well taken care of as I have come to expect from state parks, but they are heated which is nice certain times of year. The park itself is beautiful and there are nice walking trails to take advantage of. All said and done, I will most likely camp here again but I will make sure to book a site closer to the water. read more

I have been to many camp sites over the year and this is the worst. First of all, the road to the sites is confusion. The camps are small and close to each other. Quite time is at 10pm so if you're planning to stay up after 10pm then for sure this camp is not for you since you can not make any noise. There are 3 restrooms, however, they were so filthy and sticky. There's a beach that you can walk to but it's very muddy that I would not recommend to swim in. Also, there are bird poop everywhere on the playground. Pretty nasty!!!! read more

Stopped by today after all the rain. It must have been High tide and with all the rain the water was very high. Rt 3 was flooded again at Sand Hill on the way there. It was a great day though, raining out but there are shelters to sit under and listen to the rain. The water so high today, and the kids out playing in the huge puddles. Should have got a picture but forgot. Nice place to take the family, walk the dog (Jessie loves going here) and plenty for the kids to do. It costs to get in but if you have a Discover Pass it's free. read more

C2 IS NEXT TO T3! Our cabin wasn't marked anywhere on any maps, and we got there after closing. (I called that afternoon to make sure it was okay to arrive late.) My friends and I drove around for over an hour in the dark trying to find C2. Asked the rangers the next morning why they didn't have any signs or maps, and they just said "We're working on it." Seriously, just take a sharpie and write it on the map at the front gate, how hard is that?? Otherwise the park was fine. Like others have said, very small. Our next door neighbors decided to stay up late watching ER in their trailer, and we could hear every episode. But it was very pretty and the water was nice. read more

Never been camping here so can't comment on that. You need to purchase a pass to park here. Some special days like mothers day you are not required to have a pass so check the parks websites. You can get them at sporting goods stores, Fred Meyers, or Walmart. There are bathrooms with soap. There are oysters and clams that you can gather but check the boundaries where it is allowed. The park has some grass fields and picnic tables. When the tide goes out there is a lot of beach area to comb. But wear rubber boots because there are a lot of creeks running through the beach when the tide goes out that you have to cross and there are a lot of mucky areas where you will get muddy. There is no sandy beach here to lay out or play in the sand, just rocky or mucky areas. The beach in front of the parking lot isn't too bad for beach combing, but be very carefull of the mudflats that lead to the shelfish gathering areas further down the beach. You will find out too late that the mudflats are reallly thick and heavy mud and you start sinking into it like quick sand and it is "VERY DIFFICULT" to get out. I mean you will sink up to your shins in no time and the muck is really thick and heavy and hard to pull your foot out. While you are trying to pull one foot out, your weight is shifted to the other foot and the weight on that side is pushing you even deeper. I was with a group of 3 adults and 4 children and everyone was stuck and luckily we had buckets and shovels to help us get out. It took a very long time and a lot of energy. Luckily I had waders that went up to my thighs and I had to help dig out 3 children and an adult. The other child got out eventually by herself and luckily the other adult had a bucket that she placed on the mud and it acted like a snow shoe so that she used to push onto to pull her feet out eventually. There needs to be signs posted in these areas to warn people. I talked to a couple later and they said they both got stuck in the mud before and they fell. If you find yourself walking into this situation and starting to bog down. Don't stop, keep moving and try to walk out of the area. If you stop then you will start sinking. Not a good situation to be in espicially if the tide is coming in. Can be very dangerous if your alone and no one around to call for help or you start to panic and churn the muck around either by you or someone helping you because the muck will get softer and you will sink more, but still thick enough where it is diffcult to move if not impossible when you sink deeper. There have been situations where people have gotten stuck in mudflats and weren't as lucky. May look and sound funny if your watching someone in that situation, But if you are the unlucky one stuck, you will realize the potential danger if there was no one around to help and the tide is coming in. Another thing to look out for at this park is to be alert when the tide comes in. When the tide is out, there is a lot of open beach with high and low spots. If your not paying attention and looking around once in a while you might find yourself stranded on an instant island surrounded by water. The tide comes in pretty quick and it will fill in the low areas and eventually cover your island. read more

We have been waiting 9 months to finally be able to come back here. We have been coming g here for years and truly enjoyed ourselves. We are respectful, quiet, and are very easy going RVers. The Park Rangers was banging on our door at 7:30 am shocked the hell out of us. Husband opens the door and he starts berating my husband about his truck being on the grass. Mind you, our truck is very large and we had to slightly adjust our truck so we didn't block the other spot. He didnt even wait for my husband to say goodmorning g, as soon as he opened the door he said Why are you on the grass. I could give you a ticket. On and on he went I can't remember everything. Then told my husband handing him a warning notice said consider this a spanking. My husband said nothing. We were in shock. So rude. We have never been spoken to like this. Also he just drives around and around glaring. We will never be back. We tried not to let it bother us but it ruined our trip. read more
