Belk is the most convenient and cheap clothing store around Charlottesville. At least for the male part of the store, there are tons of options. Prices are normally very high, but everything is normally discounted either in-store or online (I would never recommend paying full price). You can save money just by rolling down your car window and tossing cash on the ground as you pass by the entrance. Once you go inside, you're a goner. Belk used to be Leggett's. This Charlottesville location is perfect for me. It is too far to visit daily, but close enough to visit on the way to family activities. This store seems to have two audiences: Those who will purchase a $600 designer handbag and those who are focused on the sale items. There was a nice selection of purses (the Jessica Simpson bags were cheaper here, but there was a wider selection of styles across the street at stein Mart). There was an overkill with "sales. Certain brands had "buy one get two free" promotions. If you sign up for Belk's credit card, you get 20% off of your total purchase and a 20% off coupon that doesn't expire. The dress regularly priced at $106, could have just been priced at 19.99 without any promotions (I didn't buy it). The dressing room was overwhelmed with discarded "Don't want this" items. The sales people were polite and able to have on-going conversations while ringing up my items. If you want to save money on cute outfits and you don't need actual help on the floor, this is a great place to shop. I really really don't want brick and mortar stores to be a thing of the past but the customer service and overall experience needs to be better!! I wanted to purchase a leather handbag. I found one I loved but it was locked down to the rack and I needed someone to help me. I looked around and there was one young woman in the shoe department. I asked her if she could help me and she practically sighed and rolled her eyes. She said she would get someone and walked around at a snails pace looking for someone to help. Finally she said someone would be with me in a minute. 15 minutes later I'm still standing there. I had to leave because of an appointment. I found the same bag online for 50.00 less. I'm not sure what to say, until customer service improves, more and more stores will close. Very sad that no one cares about their job anymore. No pride at all. read more

This is my Favorite Store to shop for clothing in Charlottesville! I have never seen SO many types and styles of clothing in one store. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is there. Sales staff is very willing to help assist you. The store could use more floor staff in the ready to wear departments. My sisters and friends come up from Richmond frequently to shop as there is no store in Richmond! read more

I shopped here two days ago. I saw looking for a new bra, the employee working in the bra section was very helpful. She wasn't able to size me because of COVID, but made one recommendation based off of one bra I picked. Her suggestion fit perfectly, and she explained how the bra should fit, pointed us in the direction of the dressing room and it was a pleasant experience. I plan to return. For the most part, I've always had an excellent experience shopping at the Belk here in Charlottesville that is attached to the Fashion Square Mall. Though it's a very extensive store (as far as variety of items go), the only thing I shop for there is men's clothing. I love their selection, as they carry my favorite brands: -Ralph Lauren Polo -Lacoste -Nautical -Vineyard Vines -Sperry Topsider -Dress shirts/ties -Belts -Wallets It's great to have somewhere very close by that lets me turn my shopping trip into a simple one stop shop. Even though it is connected to the Fashion Square Mall, it's nice that it has its own separate entry so you don't have to trek through the war zone of the mall. All the employees are always proactive, and come up to you to ensure that you are having a pleasant shopping experience. When available, they always are knowledgeable as to where specific items are located and can point you in the right direction to save time. Their constant sales are always great. If they don't have a specific sale on all items of your favorite brand, they always have a clearance rack that is filled with options at a discount. Whenever I shop at Belk, 99% of the time I leave with exactly what I was looking for in the correct size. I always receive a lot of Belk coupons in the mail. The cool thing is even if you forgot to bring a coupon or even if you didn't have one in the first place, when you get up to the register to check out, they are always willing to scan the store copy of a coupon to give you the best deal possible. The only downside of this specific Belk location is one that has been mentioned in previous reviews that I have read from other Yelp users. They have tons and tons of places to complete your shopping by checking out, but usually there is only 2-3 check out locations that are operational at any given time. This in combination of lines that can get rather long sometimes results in a long wait time to get your items scanned and pay. At this point, sometimes it takes even longer because the customer that is being checked out may have a question, which will then cause the employee running the register to walk away with the employee to a whole different section of the store, leaving numerous customers simply waiting not knowing when the employee will return to complete the check out process. I know that personal customer service is key, however this has happened on numerous occasions and can get a tad bit annoying. This is the sole reason why I bumped this Yelp rating of Belk from 5/5 down to a solid 4/5. Other than that, I have been a Belk store cardholder for many years, and I plan to continue shopping with Belk on a regular basis. read more

This is one of the few things I miss about Charlottesville - it was a great place to go clothes shopping. There is always some kind of a deal going on, and I got some great deals on brand name clothing here. The only brand that ISN'T on sale - ever - as far as I know is the Polo Ralph Lauren clothing. But considering the brand name I don't expect their stuff to ever be on sale. I think my favorite purchase there was the top coat I bought - I saved almost $250 bucks on it because of one of their regular sales. It was a brand name coat, too, not some cheap imitation one. There is a particularly sweet saleslady in the men's department, don't know her name, but she always made it a pleasure to shop there. read more

The items the store sells are fine. Always a sale, a lot of items around. Pretty much like the average store these days. However, the store is DIRTY. Like very dirty. I've called, told management in person...just the way it is. It's holiday time, in there late, went to bathroom...not one bathroom working properly. And apparently no one on staff to fix or clean them. Certainly does shorten your shopping experience. Would think that having cleaning and maintenance around a little more during the hours they are open would make sense and entice people to stay longer when they were able to enjoy their shopping experience. I had a great customer experience early January. A sales associate effectively helped my wife and I. Especially, he was able to find us some great deals on boots (75% off). I would just have liked the price to be more transparent. I normally like to know what I would be going to pay before I try something and that night, the only prices we could read, were the original retail prices. I used to think I was too cool for this Belk store...but I simply wasn't paying attention. This is by far the hippest Belk store...Free People, Vintage America, Kate Spade, Joe's Jeans. But also, I've also (re)discovered Coach. And leather goods by Patricia Nash are a new fave. The associates seem to always know what they are doing and are so pleasant...which isn't easy given the number of sales, and Belk Dollars, and Jingle Bucks, and Red Dot Sales and Housebuster Sales, Charity Sales, and the Belk MasterCard coupons and points...to name a few. Somehow they are able to combine discounts and you can walk away with some serious deals. I just bought a $128. Free People blouse for $48. yesterday. I do want to piggy back on what another reviewer said bout Bobbi Brown, an experience of which has left a rancid taste in my mouth for years. In the weeks before, I was told the Bobbi Brown make-up expert was coming in for the day from New York. I excitedly signed up. On the appointed day, it was a special occasion (hence why I signed up), I got all dressed then drove 25 Miles, or 1/2 hour, to the store and arrived EXACTLY on time. There was some mall rat in the chair. I waited and waited. It took at least 20 minutes to do her face. Obviously, she had sat down SECONDS before I arrived at my SCHEDULED time. When the Expert, who'd flown in from NY, was finished...she was not able to do my make-up. She looked pained about it. I am not sure why not. So some Belk associate did it. I was FUMING. Did I mention I was headed out to an event, and now I was behind? No apologies or even registration from the blank bobble-headed Bobbi Brown counter manager or her employees. I have NEVER bought Bobbi Brown makeup since. Anywhere. In fact, I have never bought makeup from Belk since. This was some years ago, admittedly, but it feels good to get it off my chest. Anyway...Belk Charlottesville is a treasure trove. Avoid Bobbi Brown until they issue me an apology :) read more

Had a wonderful experience in the lingerie department. I had gone to Victoria's Secret for a bra fitting (terrible idea) and they sized me about 2 cups size larger than I actually am. Connie from the lingerie department at Belk was SO helpful and knew what she was talking about. She sized me the correct size and helped my pick out the bras that were perfect for me.
