I could probably spend hours browsing all the delightful goods contained in O'Suzannah, a lovely…read moregift shop downtown. Hmm, it was right on the Downtown Mall but seems to have moved just off of it. Anyway, there are actually not too many locally-made items and some goods were a wee bit expensive, but overall, it's swell. Everything is laid out so thoughtfully and colorfully, and the whole shop's just so pretty to look at!

Most malls are dying. This one doesn't seem to be with the usual anchors and in between stores and…read morevery few cell phone repair shops. I only noticed one or two storefronts "in transition" and that's unusual these days. Charlottesville Fashion Square is the town shopping mall. Shaped like a large plus sign with the anchors at the main four points. JC Penney, Belk (times two) and Sears. The mall is on one level and is surrounded by parking. Most of the entrances will be through one of those anchor stores and there are three others that are not. There is also a spot in the back for local bus service. Other than being very well populated, the mall is in good condition with good lighting, smooth floors and lots of spots in the middle to sit and wait for your wife to buy her stuff.

As far as malls go, Fashion Square is pretty fair. It seems better already (as far as available…read moreshops) than when I originally moved to Cville three years ago. There are still a few vacant storefronts which always feels a bit sad, but at least one or two of them have signs that something is coming soon. There is a decent selection of restaurants, though I've never eaten at any of them. I do usually prefer an actual food court, to keep the food and eating folks separate from the clothing shops, maybe just because that's what I'm used to, but it feels weird to have all the tables with people eating right outside other kinds of shops. I think Fashion Square just isn't big enough to have a full designated food court area. Otherwise the main mall areas, bathrooms and stores all seem clean and well-kept. I have only visited the mall maybe 3 or 4 times, and usually for one or two specific shops, but it's always a kinda fun blast from the past to wander around a mall for a bit of time.

The window of Bittersweet is always adorable and they occasionally have some great pieces. I love…read morethat they sell For Love and Lemons. There's some really nice stuff in the store but there's also a lot of lower quality items that are not a joy to try on. Definitely make sure to check out the quality before buying from here because it is very hit or miss.

Walked in and was immediately asked to use their hand sanitizer. I politely said no thank you and…read morethe associate tried to force me to take the sanitizer. She said it's "all natural" I said I'm not using it, it's not good to use sanitizer all the time. No thank you. She said we prefer that everyone uses it and I said no, I'm leaving. With all of the actual science that's out, the fact that you have to use poisonous, toxic "sanitizer" that's only 62% (which is not even optimal for killing germs, 70-71% is) is not even effective. WHY are you forcing people to use it? It's NOT scientific, it's NOT effective and NOT necessary. Stop harassing potential customers. It's such poor taste.

It's a very cute boutique with overpriced clothing and a rude owner. I was looking through the…read moreracks and found everything was very trendy and super cute, however when I tried to find my size I was unable to find anything over a size Large or size 30 waist (size 8). When I approached the owner about finding something in another size she mentioned that she carried sizes that were appropriate to her customer base and if she stocked items with every size available she wouldn't make any money. Basically shaming me for needing a larger size. I wasn't asking for anything extreme just a size XL (to fit the girls) or a size 10 jeans. I don't need the rude attitude and I'll happily take my business downtown to another boutique in town that doesn't passively fat shame women.

Long brick lined path lined both sides with shops. Also a long chalkboard to write messages. And a horse carousel for kids next to a discovery play spot. The city hall bldg had a neat 3D sculpture embedded in the wall of 3 presidents. Huge super malls like this are becoming more and more rare…read more This one is massive - with about 4 floors and dozens of stores. It's impressive to see and walk around in and has almost every store and type of food you could want. I enjoyed Nordstrom, Dumplings, Ice Cream, White House Black Market, Macy's, Lululemon, etc. etc. They have all the usual chains (Victoria's Secret....) but some other boutique stores as well. Huge food court on the lowest level and a private entrance into the Ritz Carlton which is attached to the building. Super convenient if you are staying at the hotel, as I did, and I was here every day to people watch, get snacks, or just to walk the levels and get some exercise.

Plenty of parking; I always get lucky with parking near the entrances. They have most of the stores; you can imagine. This place is very modern, spacious and really safe area.
