The historical objects and the stories told on the walls and by the museum worker were phenomenal. I loved learning about the Ojibwe people, culture and history and I can't believe how much I learned. It is amazing to have a museum exist like this. They also showed a section about the French fur traders and there were cool maps and incredible objects to see there too. The museum worker was so kind and he also told us really amazing stories and history that wasn't just in the museum. He really made it a special experience as well, I forgot to ask hiI highly recommend this museum for anyone staying at Madeline Island, it really makes you realize what a special place it is for so many reasons. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

Madeline Island School Of The Arts offers training for artists, quilters, photographers, and…read morewriters at both its main facility, in Wisconsin, and in satellite locations such as Bar Harbor, ME, Tucson, AZ, and Santa Fe, NM. I'm reviewing the writing class, held in Tucson, which was a disappointing experience. The teacher is clearly knowledgeable and holds one of the highest prizes in journalism. The training ostensibly focuses on how to improve one's writing from a conceptual level. You'll learn narrative structure and techniques, how to audit your own work, and be inspired by some great examples. But it's pretty clear the teacher would rather be doing something other than holding forth for a half-dozen people who are either aspiring authors or mid-career writers looking to improve their skills. The prickly personality and lack of engagement on display really took away from the experience. They seem world-weary and somewhat bitter. I got my money's worth, absolutely, even if the teacher was reading from their yellowed notes. But if you're going in looking to sit at the feet of an inspirational person, who will make you feel like they've read the material you submitted, displays enthusiasm about your work, and is prepared to share personal feedback, I advise looking elsewhere.

The boat…read morehangar is privately owned and the space is donated for the museum by the owner while their boat is in the water. The exhibits are informative and the volunteer who manned the desk was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed having him share details on several of the exhibits. Worth your time!
