This winery was the second destination on my birthday list adventure complimentary of my loving sister! Apparently, this is the related winery to Villa Toscano located nearby, which we had previously visited. Once again, I found myself a fan of this place also! It too, is surrounded by eye pleasing countryside views, with lovely ponds, fountains, flowers and comfortable seating areas along the outdoor patios. The entrance opens into a large room where the tasting counter is at the far end. But before getting there, you are tempted on the way over to browse the retail area which features home decor, artwork, designer accessories, and clever wine connoisseur gifts. The walls are decorated with assorted flags and a family style crest over the focal point of the wine tasting bar. The wines offered on the wine tasting list were similar to what we had tried before at Villa Toscano. But we ordered another $5.00 flight that included our favorites along with a few we hadn't tried yet. We enjoyed the flavor variations, but had a hard time deciding on what to purchase, so we went outside for a while to take in the scenery and discuss which ones we liked the best. Bella Piazza also offers a wine club membership that includes discounts on wine, other products and a free lunch buffet every weekend. Having been to Bella Piazza numerous times for tasting and for the buffet with friends who are members, we found ourselves at their sister location the other day! We loved it so much that I finally took the plunge to become members ourselves! Bella Piazza and Villa Toscana are seriously such gorgeous venues, delicious wine (and pizza too!), dog friendly, but what I enjoy most about these two venues is the people who work there. I'm not a fan. A lot of this is subjective, so it's hard to rate this winery accurately. First off, it's gorgeous. Huge chateau style tasting room with an events center, fountains, and beautiful landscaping. It truly looks like it belongs in Napa. -BUT- It's in Amador. I love Amador because it's NOT Napa. It's laid-back, down-to-earth, and easy going. Free tastings that are poured in a barn by the same people who work on the vines: that is the draw for me. Decent prices on wines because they're not selling a label or a name, but rather a love of their land and their grapes. This winery feels too much like the flashy, arrogant Napa style. I personally don't care for their wines, but that's just me. I have friends who are members here and love it. But here's what really annoyed me. We came here because my father in law wanted to pick up several cases of wine for his good friend back home. As he was placing his order, we were asked if we would like a tasting. I have never tried any of the whites at the winery, so I was curious to taste just a couple. In other Amador wineries, you taste for free and can pick which of the wines you want to try (we ALWAYS buy at a free tasting). But here? No! Even when buying THREE CASES of wine, they were going to charge us a tasting fee for ONE person to try only a couple of whites!! Seriously?? This isn't Napa!!! That was pretty ridiculous. The guy that helped us out to the car with all the wine was friendly, but we won't be returning here. read more

Went for the Valentine's dinner for club members. We always have a great time here with our wine club friends! The dinner cost $29 a person which is steep but the food was outstanding! Lots of meat choices which is what I love and even good choices for the veggie hubby. Such a beautiful location, we drove up here to enjoy a leisurely lunch on the patio with a nice bottle of Sangiovese. You can not beat the view, the ambience, and the wine! This is the sister vineyard of Toscano and both are located in the Amador Valley Northern California Gold Country wine region. I definitely recommend driving along the scenic highways leading to this wonderfully underdeveloped region for site seeing, dining and wine tasting! read more

The grounds are beautiful and the buildings are perfect for creating an aura of Italy. The interior of the main building, where the wine tasting is held, is large and spacious. I arrived at the same time a wine tour and another family had already started wine tasting. There was one server, Anna, who was gracious in being attentive to everyone's needs. Very beautiful to sit and have a glass of wine. I love the wine. I am only giving 4 stars due to the BBQ one Saturday was disastrous. The cashier was new and not trained. He was giving meals away and a lot of customers did not get their meals and when meals would come out they were not correct. Some waited over an hour for their meals. The chef is wonderful. I came here on a Thursday afternoon with a wine club member- members and friends get about 18 tastings (or however many wines they have) free! That alone was awesome, but I didt enjoy the wines as much as I do in wineries from Lodi/Placerville, so thats why it's a 4 star place. However, the front patio gets 5 stars. And I heard the member benefit of a free pasta buffet on Sundays is also 5 stars. Wish I enjoyed the wine more! But its a beautiful place and worth a revisit to see if flavors change over the years. read more

First the good..... I liked the wine here....it is much better than that of the sister winery Villa Toscano. Now for the not so good..... They charge you $5 for a tasting of their wines.....which I guess is becoming the norm, but it still bothers me that for 3/4 a glass of wine you have to pay when forever and ever you got much more than that for free.... The hosts and hostess seemed much more interested in the people wanting to buy wine than those in the middle of a wine tasting....They also seemed very flat and bored at their jobs. The nicest setting to relax, sip some wine or have something to eat of all the wineries in the Shenandoah Vally near Plymouth, CA. However, the wines alone are not up to the quality of wines found in the Napa Sonoma Valleys. This why I prefer to call this area Amateur Vally since the wineries are located in Amador County and so on and so forth. If you gotta get out of the house and don't want to fight traffic and crowds in the Napa Sonoma Valleys this is your less than an hour nearest far away place! The pizza at Bella Piazza is actually worth while even though the employees are not happy campers when I visited. Try $30. for a combo pizza and a salad with chicken for my favorite wino plus two cokes. The price of the wines is outrageous and don't fall for their stupid "club" sales pitch because I did years ago and it's not worth discussing here unless you want to email me for details. Suffice to say: shame on you Bella Piazza and Villa Toscano wineries (owned by the same guy driving a white Porsche GT3) for marketing your wine like a cheap dress at K Mart! Drop you prices and get real because Costco and others will kick your ass at the check out counter. read more

I'm not a wine expert by any means , but I thought my visit here was on par with some of the more larger and popular wineries in Napa . I came here with a friend of mine who is more wine savvy and also happens to belong to their wine club . We came to take advantage of their pasta lunch buffet on Sundays. I believe if you don't belong to the wine club you can also purchase a buffet lunch but not sure on that . I really thought the food was pretty good for a free buffet ! The salad was fresh , and they had two different pastas and bread and veggies and potatoes ... Carb central ! It's not fancy tho, they give you paper plates and plastic utensils. Anyway after filling our bellies with pasta we meandered in the the tasting area and basically had a taste of nearly every wine they had on hand ! It was about 14+ pours ! All for free cuz my friend is again part of wine club.. So he can have a party of four for free pours . They do charge a tasting fee if you're not part of club .. But fee was nominal . As far as quality and taste ... I guess it was good ! I'm still learning the slight differences in taste of reds ... I'm a bit better with whites and they have great selection . Service was attentive and friendly , they were very crowded at peak hour , but they did a great job serving everyone . The grounds are very pretty and pleasant . My husband and I are wine club members because we have always had good experiences in the tasting room and the pasta buffet is really good! The first time I went I expected basic pasta but it was really good and high quality. However we are disappointed when we get the bottles open because almost everyone has a LOT of sediment, I'm not talking a little like some places have but a LOT. Its really quite gross and off putting. I have told my husband to cancel or membership despite the pasta, but I'd rather pay for the pasta. read more

This is the sister winery of Villa Toscono Winery located on the "wine loop" of Shenandoah Rd. It's one of the bigger wineries out here. What sets these two wineries apart, is they serve food along with the wine tasting. Two separate venues, but each winery has both. I liked the Italian looking setting of each and the wine tasting is good too. I didn't find any of the wines that good that I needed to buy some to take home, but we did take advantage of the food offerings. If you're out on the Wine Loop, stop in here, I'd say, it is worth the stop. read more

Ok the reason for the two stars really has to do with the wine. After trying about 4 wines I didn't like, I skipped right down to the petite syrah and then gave up. This wine is mediocre at best. Although I like bold wines, there just wasn't enough going on here. Other then the wine itself, this place has a lot of other great attributes. The grounds are GORGEOUS. I mean exactly what you would picture when you image going to a winery. Very pretty, Tuscany style. Also, they have lunches with unlimited pasta buffet Fridays & Sundays salad & bread - free for wine club members(for up to four people), $11 for everyone else and the food is BOMB!! I mean you get so full but is so good you can't resist. Their rosemary bread is so so good. all the pasta and salad I had was really excellent. And not too many vineyards in the area offer food, so definitely a plus. Also, have a dessert area with some over the top dessert, Red Velvet Mousse, yea. try that out. but might want to share it with a friend. 99% sure you won't be able to finish it yourself. The tasting room itself is very large, lots of art and things for sale. If this place had better wine, I'd probably become a member, but for now it is just deserving of two stars. read more

Of all the wineries in Amador, this is the one place we will NEVER again visit. We used to be wine club members of Bella and it's sister winery Villa Toscana. We scheduled a paid private tasting at Bella for my birthday with 8 of our friends a month beforehand. When we arrived in a limo, not a single person at the winery knew of our event and conveniently the manager was nowhere to be found. Instead, they tried to shove the 10 of us into the corner of the tasting bar and then proceeded to completely ignore us for 20 minutes. We gathered our group and left the premises and despite complaining to the winery, never even received an apology, let alone a refund for the private tasting we had paid for. There are plenty of good wineries in Amador. Do yourselves a favor and avoid Bella Piazza and Villa Toscana. They're attitude is that they're doing YOU a favor by letting you taste their wine. Well guess what...their wine isn't that great, and the horrible customer service makes it taste that much worse! read more

I came to visit a friend who is a wine consultant up here at Bella Piazza and Villa Toscano today. Since my experience was probably enhanced by knowing someone pouring my tastings, I'll make sure to rate this as I would have had I been just a customer with no ties to friends. Very cute place from the outside. Nice vines surrounding the property, cute outside seating, and a charming Italian looking building. The inside is huge, especially in comparison to some of the other tasting rooms. The counter where the tastings are poured is really long, which is nice because it can get crowded at some of the places and small counters make it hard to get up there. Decent size flight lists and friendly service. I tend to be more of a whites fan to begin with, and this proved true here as well. I like their California Pinot a lot. My boyfriend liked the Barbera and the Sangiovese. I wasn't that impressed with much else. There's knick knacks and food items to be purchased in the tasting room as well. With free tastings, you really can't go wrong at this pretty place, I just don't know if you'd want to invest in a whole bottle. read more

Four stars for a beautiful setting and great wine. Not five on account of their lunch buffets. OK, disclaimer: I was a member up until recently. (Can't really take advantage of the benefits if you live over an hour away.) One of their membership's benefits is a free lunch buffet every weekend. They serve pasta dishes, steamed vegetables and a side salad. Everything is fine, although it gets repetitive after a while, except for their house dressing. Dressing? What's wrong with dressing? The last two times I went there (around twice in two months), I got somewhat ill from the lunch. I ate with others and they only thing I ate both times that they didn't was the house dressing. Now, I wasn't in the hospital ill but "I can do without that stomach pain" ill. I don't know what it is but don't think it's an allergy or anything like that. Just something to be aware of. On a more positive note, the surroundings are lovely and the staff is very nice. The wine taster person (whatever that title might be) Rachel is great. The wines themselves are good. I prefer their whites and sweet wines more than their reds; the latter are a bit harsh for my taste. They're good, don't get me wrong but I would buy (and have bought) the others first. I haven't been there where it's been so busy that I haven't been able to get a seat, good service or just allowed to enjoy myself. I highly recommend going, tasting some wine and soaking in the sights. You'll definitely enjoy it. Just avoid the dressing... Thanks! read more

Beautiful vineyard! Perfect setting for lunch, a wedding or just a quick trip out of town. Tasting fee was $5 and the tasting room was awesome! Yummy snacks to clean pallet. Great customer service. I really like this winery! I am not a whino by any means and I am still learning about wines and trying to enjoy the wine culture and learn more. I really liked Bella and Villa because of what they offered their wine club members! I am a new member and we will see how I enjoy the experience, but my wine tasting experience had been good both times I went. They did not make me feel bad due to my lack of knowledge and just let me enjoy what I enjoyed. For me, I enjoyed the wines at Bella Piazza more...but they were both good! The Port at both locations is amazing! Both times I had Matt as the server and he is super cool and knowledgable! He was very down to earth and not a snob! Neither location had Cab's or Merlots... So that was kinda upsetting. But I was told the grapes needed for those wines are not grown in Amador. read more

I am a member of Villa Toscano. I was told I can get the same discount at the sister winery Bella Piazza. However, Villa Toscano forgot to make me aware that sister company, does not have good service. Dillema happened today, 9/21/19, I brought my sister and her husband to listen to some live music and food. We took a table, I went in to get a bottle of wine for my 2 guests, we ordered food at 1:30pm. We noticed that everyone around us got served food at 2:30pm except us. An hour later. I went in to follow up. Disappointingly, I was told that somebody with the same number I have, #7, cancelled their order, and along my order came with. So I told the people in the kitchen that it is okay,I will wait, just give me my food. The guy in the kitchen said he will serve it in 5 minutes. 20 minutes later, behold, my food is still not served. I went back in, this time I saw the woman who rang me up.i called her out. She had nothing to say, she is wearing a white blouse. I guess everyone with a white blouse takes orders to ring up and the ones wearing black serves. It is not the fault of the cook nor the server. It is the fault of the one person who took my order and rang me up. Yes, I blame her. Look it up, #7with $56.56 tab on this date 9/21/19. She never offered apologies. I was hungry and so is my sister and brother in-law so we ate our food at 3:05 pm. Yes! After everyone has already been served, ate and had left, no more music to entertain us while we eat. Two hour wait? Wow..The wine is good, but the service FUCKING SUCK at Bella Piazza. Are they racist? Maybe. You see, I look very filipino, but my father's great grandfather is Italian from Assisisi, hence my maiden name. Does not matter though, discrimination has no excuse. I felt that this woman who rang me up discriminated me by cancelling my order and putting the same number 7 on different orders. Really? Yes, this is very personal. If I did not go in to follow up, we will be waiting for nothing!! I will still be a member of Villa Toscano, but I will tell everyone I know to not go to Bella Piazza,because they ffff does not know customer service! I effing despise this place, there is no describing what I feel right now. I should give them negative stars. Do not go to this place. Not recommending it, especially if you are colored. O love this winery! I am privileged to have a wonderful best friend who includes me in partaking of the Sunday buffet for members of the wine club. We have always enjoyed the buffet and have gone many times over the years. Well their wines have gotten better but their service is horrible! Busy weekend for President's Day and they have two people working their tasting bar and another the register and helping when possible. In the past I hadn't been impressed with their wines but had a friend that wanted to try it. The grounds are beautiful, some of the nicest I'm Amador. Other than that this is one of my least liked wineries. Wines are fine, nothing special and service is mediocre at best. The bar was covered in spilled wine, bread had wine dripped in the bowl and on the sides. If you're going to charge for a tasting you better back it up with good service and wines. There were a few OK wines at this venue, but I was underwhelmed by the service (our wine consultant couldn't even remember what she was pouring as she was pouring it). The wines didn't have much oomph, and I was surprised that they charged a tasting fee and that they charged so much per bottle when they didn't have the offerings to warrant it. My fiance and I went here with her parents to check the place out as a potential wedding venue. While walking around we happened to meet the event coordinator "Jesse" who seemed nice but was unable to speak at the moment. He did check for some wedding brochures but couldn't find any in the reception building so he forwarded us to the tasting room. We went over and stood at the tasting counter for what seemed like forever without any acknowledgement from the two servers. The woman "Vanessa" made eye contact with me three times and didn't even say hello or that she'd be with us soon, and in fact walked out to help someone else and the guy "Travis" didn't even look our direction despite us standing right beside the two people he was pouring for. We walked out without having ever been helped or acknowledged for about ten minutes. Terrible customer service. If they were this aloof and rude before they have my money, I can only imagine them once they've already lined their pockets and have nothing to lose. As soon as we walked up to the tasting counter (which is at the rear of their boutique) we were immediately told: "You have to pay the $5 tasting fee upfront, I'll take that from you now." The girl that started us with our tasting left after the first taste and pushed us off on Sir Richard, who was energetic and had a great personality, but all he could talk about was the wine club: "Well, what you are tasting now, if you join the wine club would only cost you X ..... well, our wine club, if you join .... etc." The wine was just average and the place looked like a boutique and not a winery. There were many, many items for sale ($70 vase anyone?) Very high pressure to join their wine club. We left disappointed, and will not be back due to the pressure. We love Amador wineries because usually they are not like Napa - meaning they are usually friendly, low pressure, tastings are usually free and you get to chat with the actual winemakers.
