Stopped in for dinner with my husband and enjoyed a shared dinner . We ordered the calamari and an order of the fish & chips . We had the calamari served first and it was quite a large portion along with diced tomatoes & onions with a large portion of taziki dip . The calamari was very tender and we enjoyed it a lot . The fish & chips were great . 2 large battered pieces of fish and not frozen fish sticks . The fries were hot and a small dish coleslaw & hollandaise sauce on the side . Great food & great waitress ... very friendly and always making sure our needs were met ! Another enjoyable meal with great home cooking ! Will be back to try more choices . read more

Tom and I moved into Lakeview last summer (2022) and were hoping we would find a neighborhood pub/restaurant that we'd love. Well, long story short...we did. Bella is our own "Cheers" and Jennifer is the one who makes it feel that way. it's our go to spot at least once a week (except when Jenn is on holiday!). it's extra special when your neighbourhood pub is a home away from home where "everyone knows your name". I only give this place a 4 because the Tom's special pizza with Pineapple is THE best pizza I have had and still crave to this day. I've been driving past Bella Roma for a couple of years now, but it doesn't look like much from the outside so I never really paid attention to it until I read some (really) positive reviews on another food review website. We finally went for pizza and beers last night, and MAN was I sure missing out! This place has really good pizza - a nice Greek-style pie, which isn't my favourite style but they do it really well. They put a TON of meat on their pizzas. I can usually slam a half of a pizza myself, but their pies are so thick and filling that I was way too full after 2 slices. Many of the reviews I read said that this was the best pizza in Calgary. While I wouldn't say it's the best Greek pizza in Calgary (that title is reserved for Atlas), it is one of the better Greek pizzas in the area. (anni's on 37th St SW and Starlite on Heritage Drive SE are also nearby and have equally great Greek-style pie). When we were there, I saw probably 15 or 20 people coming in to get take out pie, so this place is certainly popular. Bella Roma is a typical 1970s-style steakhouse, and is divided into restaurant and lounge areas. We sat in the lounge, which at 6 pm on a friday night was PACKED. Somehow, though, the tables are arranged so that it feels like you have a bit of privacy and can have a conversation without the rest of the place overhearing it. The crowd was a nice mix of ages, from mid-20s all the way up to about 70 or so. It was kinda cool to see kids in UFC shirts and grandparents in floral moo-moos. Bella Roma is my favourite restaurant! The new ownership has given the place a great updating and the new menu is awesome! All the classics are still there including the best pizza in town but the new Italian food offers something for everyone. The new wine list is also expertly curated. Overall the place still has a friendly, welcoming neighbourhood feel but also a modern and classy vibe. The service is much improved and was very attentive. I definitely recommend checking out this restaurant even if you do not live in the area as it will have you coming back again and again. VERY impressed. read more

Myself and my spouse have been going to the Bella Roma now for probably about a year or so, and we both quite enjoy it. We visit about once a week, and sit in the lounge with a friend, who is one of the regulars, and who introduced us to this pub. Although the distance from home is greater than some of our nearby establishments, the excellence of the staff more than makes up for it. My only complaint, if you could call it that, is that they don't have a light beer on tap, which means that we are more or less mandated to drink bottled light beer, at a higher price (in terms of ounces), versus the pints. If it would be possible to add a light beer option to the in-house draft options, that would be very much appreciated! read more

I am giving this place 4 out of 5 stars because the place itself is a bit dated in atmosphere and design, and because I have only ever had their pizza...but trust me, their pizza is so good that this review should get 5 out of 5 stars! And the price of this pizza is a great value, you absolutely get what you pay for. I hate cold pizza, and Bella is the ONLY pizza I can stomach cold, now that's saying something! So before you buy that flat Dominos or stay in to heat up that flavorless frozen pizza, go to this place and get the Hawaiian with shrimp and feta added to it. All i can say is "You are welcome!" Bella Roma has become a regular haunt for my dragon boat team when we train from Spring to Fall. It's fairly decent as neighbourhood steakhouses go, with the usual expected menu items such as steaks, pizza and pasta, but what differenciates this place from any other pizza place is the crust. It's definately home made, and one of the best in the city (sorry Cate, maybe it was an off night?). It simply has flavour and body, and doesn't taste like something from the freezer bin. The consistency is rich, and they pile on the meat and cheese like Rome is burning now and there's no day but today. Needless to say, I enjoy my summer nights with pizza, beer and good friends. The place is separated into two rooms, the restaurant on the right and the bar on the left. The restaurant side has a slightly different menu than the bar, but the bar has some excellent daily and all week food specials, such as the large 2 topping pizza for $11.95 (one of the best deals for the quality in town). Drinks are good, the waitresses are friendly and though I find the layout a little tight. Still, if all you want is a place to go to and relax with friends, it's a good place to be. Outside of that, they do take out (I'm not quite sure about delivery... I don't believe so), and I really don't have much idea about the rest of the food outside of the usual pub stuff (I personally think their fries is a little overpriced). Still, whenever I'm in the area and have the opportunity, it's a place I consider a neighbourhood gem just like I consider Al's Pizza in the NW to be. I'm pretty biased on this one, as I've eaten "The Bella" for years. I grew up in the neighborhood, so this was always our source of pizza delivery, or our place to pop in for a quick meal. A lot has changed physically with this restaurant over time. Various incarnations and renovations between the restaurant and the lounge have taken place. And generally speaking, today it's not unlike many other "neighborhood pizza places" that dot strip malls around the city. But one thing that has always remained a constant is the GREAT pizza. I'm going to narrow it down further, and say that if you like pepperoni and mushroom, or beef and mushroom, you'll love their take. This place makes my absolute favorites. So allow me to discuss my true passion: the pepperoni and mushroom! For me, this is all I'll ever need. It's the perfect blend of flavors between the sauce, and the type of pepperoni used. It's not hard pepperoni discs thrown on top, like some places do it. Nope, it's a soft pepperoni layer underneath the cheese, that perfectly combines with--and complements-- the sauce and mushrooms for flavor perfection. A good amount of cheese tops it off, making for slices with decent heft. Now, I'm not concerned about "authenticity," or ambience, or anything of the sort in this review. I'm just saying, for me, a slice of this is about the most satisfying slice of pizza I've had. So even though I no longer live in the neighborhood (far from it), I do make a point of getting take out now and then on the way home from work. A quick detour into Lakeview from Crowchild south, and I'm there. I really don't dine IN at Bella Roma anymore, but I can say it can get pretty busy. They do a LOT of takeout and delivery on top of restaurant and lounge sales. The staff on hand are often running hard. But I won't punish them by knocking off a star for being popular. We have ordered pizza from here to go for years and have always enjoyed it however, the in restaurant experience has been very disappointing. A customer should be able to have a great experience no matter if you are there at the prime dinner hour or the quieter hours of business. We did not get that. The food was totally fine, good portions for the price. However the staff didn't seem to care that we were there. They all gathered in the back of the restaurant, having their own conversations. We wouldn't have minded this as we were the only ones there-but the conversations were so loud that they interrupted our ability to have our own conversations with our meal. They spoke at an unnecessarily loud volume and played loud videos on their phones. During their conversations they occasionally swore and spoke about their children "gagging food" down. Not what you want when you're trying to enjoy a meal out. We were only checked on once, and had to wait 5 minutes for someone to realize we were done eating. When you're the only ones in the restaurant eating- that's ridiculous. It was very disappointing. Order the pizza out if you want good pizza, it's not worth dining in. read more

Great Food, Great Prices, Great Atmosphere. The only complaint I would have is it is understaffed, some times you'll walk in on a busy night and they'll have only one server/waitress on to deliver food to the entire restaurant. As a result you'll be waiting up to 30 minutes to order or for a drink refill. The Pizza is amazing, the wings are great and the place is warm and pub like. All in all a great place, just don't go when it's busy. read more

I used to work nearby, and got into Bella's a 2-4 times a month for lunch. The pizza here is fantastic - the meat goes under the cheese - brilliant! The crust is not too thick or greasy, but solid enough to hold up under the generous topping portions. Personal favourite is a small pepperoni and greenpepper pizza with a side of ranch. Loaded with chili flakes and parm, the flavours combine just perfectly. Both the lounge and main dining areas are severely dated, but the atmosphere is fine. I prefer the lounge, where they have a couple TV's typically showing sports. Bella's location in a strip mall makes it easy to miss for anyone who doesn't know that its there, so I imagine it has survived due to its quality food, friendly staff, loyal clientele, and the word of mouth from satisfied customers like myself. read more

Food... mediocre, at best. Zero customer service. Call to attempt to rectify issues with order - wrong order delivered, cold food, almost 2 hours to arrive - all you get is someone who says they "don't care". Seriously!?! So much for trying to support local. Will never waste my money at Bella Roma ever again. By far better people and food establishments near by. This place used to be so kind and caring and want it to be a good experience for all customers. Now you call and they basically tell you that YOUR lying "food can't be cold, just came out of the oven". Yep, it was cold. Order wrong. Over priced. Husband and I shared a large pizza called Bella Roma Special for $20. It was just the right portion for two. There was nothing special about the crust, didn't seem like homemade. The pepperoni and ham on it was the poorest quality meat I have ever seen. I couldn't eat it, I picked it off. The mushrooms and peppers were scarce. The radio played the worst pop music. When I go out to eat, I don't want to hear radio ads during dinner!! If you: (Bella Roma) are going to play the radio then choose a station that plays the classics and not pop garbage. There was no one there under 30! The decor was totally 1980's but who really cares, just mentioning it. The server was pleasant but when I mentioned the bad meat quality she had no comment. There is no reason to go back when this place offers nothing better than McCain frozen pizza in a time-warp atmosphere. read more

Came in from Cranbrook yesterday. Was told by a friend that it was best pizza he's ever had. I have to agree. Decent prices. Lots of topping and the cheese. Omg so much cheese. NEVER EAT HERE!!! The waitress (if you go there, she's the chunky one- don't ask her questions about the menu, she'll get irritated and do the same to you!!!!) SPIT in my drink! I only realized this after I saw the kitchen staff looking out the door with her pointing and laughing at our table. Apon further inspection, I also realized the "soda bubbles" weren't popping/disappearing! Absolutely DISGUSTING! We went to a Bella Roma restaurant and We ordered wings, 3 beer, then we ordered a large bar special 2 topping pizza for 13.95 by the end we had 4 slices left and asked for it to go, when our bill came they added 4 more dollars to our bill. I asked why did they charge us extra, it was said because we had 4 pieces left of our bar pizza.They said we can't take more then 2 pieces home, what they should have done is told us what was going to happen so we had a choice what we wanted to do,so we did not get surprised when the bill came. We paid our bill and left. If I was thinking I would have gave them there two pieces back and said pack up the other two and then we would not have had to pay the extra 4 dollars. It's not about the 4 dollars its about informing your customers how things work at there restaurant.. Ps it would help if someone the staff looked like they wanted to be there.... read more

Very poor service. Waited over an hour for our food (pizza and lasagna). Finally ended up leaving after they made us pay for the pop and salad, because now they would have to throw out the lasagna that they had keeping warm in the back. Out of Character. I have been a Bellaroma customer for over 20 years because they serve great pizza. Tonight we ordered our usual "Minas" pizza and would never have believed it came from Bellas. The crust was hard and old tasting and the sauce or toppings tasted different as well. We order "Minas" because we like the feta cheese topping which was non existent tonight. If we were first timers we probably wouldn't be back. If you have new kitchen staff, you better address the issue. read more

Grrreat pizza - always best to eat in. I have eaten there at least 35 times over the years. Not fussed about the décor - but I do not expect fancy for a great pizza and steak place in my neighbourhood. Prices are reasonable and I have not had any issues with service. As I have gotten to know them, I sometimes call and order ahead for a sit down pizza to save the understandable 20 minutes to 40 minutes it takes to make their pizzas. read more
