I visited Bella Vista Winery on a Sunday afternoon with my family, and we had a great experience overall! It was very quiet and peaceful. I think there were only one or two other tables of guests when we went. Very minor critique, but the music played on the speakers didn't quite match the scenery. A rock music radio station was on for a majority of our time there, and it was a bit loud. We shared two bottles of wine, and both were super delicious. The service was fast, and employees were friendly and accomodating. We also ordered the Brie Charcuterie, which is served with baked brie, salami, grapes, and bread. It was good, but not necessarily worth $25 in my opinion. The salami to bread ratio was slightly off, but we asked for more bread, and an employee brought us more free of charge. For lunch, we all shared a flatbread and a burger. Both were great! Beautiful views and relaxing environment! I would come back. read more

I was here for a conference day. I have read all the past reviews and can see they unfortunately refer to the previous owners and so should be ignored. The new owners are great. The food we had during our day at the winery was great as was the service. Side note, they have a Blueberry Port that if you can get it you should. This is a great spot. It's very nice inside (a great spot for a wedding, reception, or other event). The outside patio area is relaxing & overlooks a beautiful pond & vineyard. The food was delicious & the staff were attentive & kind. Additionally, the property will be going up for auction at the end of August (due to divorce court, not because of business/service). So don't let the auction signs deter you from visiting for a glass of wine, lunch, or dinner. read more

Came here for the first time today. The place was like a ghost town. The space was nice though. Was a bit awkward having to stand at the bar to order my food and drinks and then seat myself. This establishment looks to be higher end than that. I ordered the Bella Burger with a side salad. The salad was literally just spinach, cheese and dressing. I'd asked for no tomatoes due my allergy but damn...not even a single crouton. The burger was just a burger and nothing to write home to mom about. A hidden gem and we'll be back. This place changed hands a few years ago and seems to be doing well although the traffic was very light on a Thursday evening. The place looks great and kudos to them for keeping it up and looking new. The wines are made right there and we enjoyed a very sweet white wine "Sugar Creek White" with a nice meal. The offerings run the gamut from sandwiches, wraps and flatbreads to pasta and steaks. They supposedly have nice desserts but had none available when we visited. I was told that since they're closed Monday- Wednesday, the desserts are made in-house on Thursday but they didn't get them finished in time for dinner service. The only puzzler to our visit and the reason for 1 star being absent is the cryptic charge on our final bill. It came to $61.97 but was rounded up to an even $64 with something called a "Convenience Fee." What is that? You'd think $2 and change wouldn't bother me at the price of the meal but. I'm becoming wary of surcharges (tips before service or food, credit card fees, etc.) that are nickeling and diming us. This wouldn't keep me from coming back but maybe the owners should know that pulling these kind of charge stunts can mar an otherwise perfect evening meal. I'm just saying. read more

This was a lunch stop while on Spring Break with the family. Only a few minutes further down the road from those "other places", this Winery/Restaurant sits out in the countryside. Grape vines in the fields give a hint that you are getting close. The building is pretty big with high ceilings and lots of banquet space. We were immediately greeted and seated upon entry. It was not super busy in the front dining area, but it seemed they may have had a larger group somewhere in the back. The front area is a bar, wine tasting and a medium size dining area. I was really impressed with the menu choices, we were all pretty hungry and they had a decent selection. I got the Italian sandwich with fries. It came out hot with the Pizza and it all disappeared pretty quick. We had a bottle of the house Norton wine with it and were told it may have been the last bottle in the house. Tried to schedule a meeting to visit the Winery and discuss availability & pricing but the Event Coordinator was very difficult to deal with. First of all I'd like to say all of the staff except for Sheila were absolutely amazing. We went there today to look at this beautiful winery to potentially host for my wedding. When we asked about events, my mother was "greeted" by Sheila. Sheila immediately rude and handed my mom a piece of scrap paper with a hand written email address telling her that we couldn't see anything and if we wanted to we had to talk to the event coordinator. (Who wasn't at that time). She was very rude and unapologetic from the get-go. She was so rude to-the point that bartender and other staff members apologize for her behavior and told us we were more than OK to walk the on the premises just to look around. However, when tried to just walk around to look, we were repeatedly met with a unwelcoming Sheila. She was rude the entire process we were there. At one point, we were even approached by staff asking if we had questions about events and they were more than happy to help us. At which point, one of the very nice waitresses, who had gotten permission by the head chef to show us the bridal suite. When we went downstairs Sheila immediately stopped us from coming in. She was extremely rude rash, and almost defiant and upset that we were down there and told us we couldn't be in the bridal suite which caused a confrontation between my mother and a bridesmaid. Full disclosure, i work in the bridal industry and by far this is probably one of the worst interaction I've ever come upon. I've had multiple friends tell me to check this place out because the new owners are amazing but I'm sorry but Sheila has definitely left a really bad taste in our mouth's. When you have people that are looking to spend thousands of dollars at your establishment you would think they would be way more kind. I don't know if Sheila was having a bad day, or if she is socially awkward (maybe even on the spectrum ) but she should not be someone working a front of the house situation. While I understand that she is related to the owners, maybe she should just be back at the house and not have any interactions with people because in the wedding industry or even winery industry everything with her was completely unprofessional and downright rude. Again, this one star rating that I wish you could be zero stars is only because of Sheila and I would like to say entire staff especially Nathan, Danielle and the bartender were absolutely amazing and nice and understanding. It was almost like an elephant in the room that was Sheila and the staff seem to just wanting to make up for how terrible Sheila was to us. It seems that she causes the entire establishment a lot of stress. On the patron and on the staff. (I was even told that there's been quite the turnover since she has been there). I really wanted my wedding to be there and it was my top place to go but now I don't think that's going to happen after today. BEWARE!! If I could give zero stars I would! Met some friends for music and dinner last night. Our friends arrived 20 minutes before us, and sat the entire time waiting for service. When we finally placed our orders for drinks, it took quite a while. The place was busy and I get that the establishment just reopened with limited seating after the lifting of COVID-19 rules. But, with limited staff? Come on, get it together!! Noticed the chef was delivering food, As well as a couple of women in regular clothing. Everyone got their drinks except my friend who ordered a bottle of wine. When asked about it, got our heads bit off by some woman who stated she would check on it, never saw her again! It took an hour and 20 minutes before my friend received his wine. We ordered our food... our appetizers never came until our food arrived and two of the same style pizzas, one was normal, the second was burned, they did not look the same. The food was pretty tasty on the positive side. It came time to pay. We gave our waitress our credit cards and we sat and sat, no waitress returned. My wife had to go to the bar inside and inquire about the bills. We all got up and went inside to pay. There was nothing to sign for my wife and I... where was my bill? Come to find out they put our tab on my friends credit card.... and THEY LOST MY FRIENDS CARD!! After they told us they "comp'ed" our meals. Seriously! We will NEVER go back there. (Maryville, IL is my location) Deeply disappointed by these business owners. My family planned a surprise 40th birthday celebration for me as part of the winery's New Year's Eve Masquerade Party, but a number of us were closely exposed to COVID (and later tested positive ourselves) and we decided it was best for none of us (a party of 10) to attend, to avoid spreading COVID to other event participants and winery staff. Some members of the group contacted the owner to request a refund one day before the event, consistent with the EventBrite policy, but the winery owners refused, and on the day of the event, we asked whether at least partial credit could be applied to a future event, and there was zero flexibility, zero compassion. Although we weren't yet completely sure how many of us might be infected, we hoped that there might be some appreciation that we were trying to do the unselfish thing, and avoid creating a super-spreader event at their establishment (surely that would be bad for business - and also, we care about our community). In the end, we lost the full $750 in tickets and while the owners did finally agree to box up ten dinners for a member of our party to pick up (which were awful, only about half of what we were promised, most of which was thrown away), it was not before YELLING (literally yelling through the phone - who does this?!) at members of my group about being a "small business" which they believed justified their unwillingness to work with us in any way at all. Lost money or not, the total lack of empathy, kindness, and humanity is the last thing our world needs right now, so I would discourage other locals from patronizing this business because trust me - if anything upsetting comes up for you, this woman is the last person you'd want to be talking to. I think it would have been fair for this business to offer some portion of credit towards a future event, dinner, something - I understand it would have been hard to refund the full amount (they ARE a small business, vendors were already paid, etc.), but there was a middle ground she was simply unwilling to acknowledge, especially since 10 people not making use of an open bar would be a pretty significant cost savings for her. Instead, her hateful attitude and rigidity made a heartbreaking situation (months of planning and lots of money down the drain) much, much worse for everyone involved. read more

The only reason this place should get a star is that it is a beautiful place. The customer service is horrible at best. I was there for a wedding and reception 10/16/21. There was a happy hour between the wedding and reception and at the end of the hour there were still people in line to get a drink. When the owner was approached about the poor service her response was that you get what you pay for and you paid for 2 bartenders. Both bartenders were either new or just incompetent. They did not have any urgency at all. They had trouble with the draft beer not working and my daughter had to fix it for them. They said they didn't know what to do. Draft beer and wine were supposed to be free but I was charged $18 for a vodka/soda, a bottle of Bud Light and a glass of wine (free wine?). Obviously the people paying for this wedding were upset and complaining. The owner responded by calling the police who were sitting in the parking lot as everyone was leaving. On top of that the food was not very good and cold. You don't want to have a reception at this place! read more

I have only been to the winery a few times with my girlfriends, and I enjoyed my visit. But on October 14th and 15th I went there with my husband and the food was very bad on the 15th I took my girlfriend there for her birthday we ordered pizza first the waitress brought us the wrong pizza and when she brought the corrected one it was so burned we couldn't eat, we send it back and she still charge us for it. I would not recommend or go back to Bella Vista winery. Very bad service very bad food. read more

We've eaten many times at Bella Vista. For small town Maryville, Il this is one of the nicer restaurants offering a more upscale, yet reasonably priced menu. Our most recent dinner was Friday, August 6. Kamy was our waitress, service was quick and delicious. I got the Mahi and my husband got the trout special, both were delicious and came with plenty of sides. I have visited this establishment once before and was very impressed with the setting, the food and the wine. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my most recent visit. Our party spent quite a bit and tipped generously, but were basically "ushered out" when the manager objected to one person in the group. I will not speak to that situation, as I am not that person and cannot speak for her. Even if you had a problem with one person, perhaps it could have and should have been dealt with a different way. Instead, you began collecting our plates while one of the guests was still eating (and not the person you objected to, either). We had paid, spent over $200 plus tip at 30% (hardly a low class number), and felt that we were being dismissed by someone who felt she was better than us. I have read this establishment's reviews previously, and noted that this seems to be a trend with them. I almost did not return, even though I loved the venue, because I felt that the owners would be looking for a reason to exclude anyone who did not meet their definition of an ideal guest. Basically, the impression I get is that this establishment seeks only "upper echelon" visitors. May I suggest that if they only wish to serve the upper crust, for whom butter doesn't melt in their mouths, they become a country club with members only rules, vetted and background checked? This is not New York City or Los Angeles, it is Maryville, IL. Offending your customers is the fastest way to lose them, and let's face it, business is not booming in the era of COVID. Once again, this location seems to want to drive its potential returning visitors away (our situation seems almost identical to others who bring groups to this place. Apparently they can't handle more than two or three at a time). This would have been an ideal venue for a wedding or girls day out. But apparently, only if you meet a certain definition or class. I have eaten in many five star establishments all over this country. NEVER have I been ushered out of ANY OF THEM. I and the rest of my party will take our money elsewhere in the future. If I could, I would leave 0 stars. A larger group of friends and I attended this winery last weekend for a surprise birthday party; yes without a reservation. However when we arrived, there were very few other people. One of the apparent managers of the establishment very rudely told us we were only allowed two hours at our table. After that approximate timeframe, she then informed us she would be closing our tabs and we needed to leave because they had our two (out of the probably 5 other empty tables) reserved for another party. We would have been completely fine moving to another small table with enough room to set our personal items, however, that was never offered, they closed our tabs essentially telling us to leave. The manager was so unreasonably rude and off putting. I understand if you're understaffed, but we never made any special requests, and after our group brought quite a bit of business to your establishment, you'd expect better. Awful experience. We had a group meet here for a surprise birthday party and were treated horribly. We made a reservation 5 days prior because of the amount of people going, when we show up they tell us that they marked us off the list and we didn't have the reservation anymore. Why? The owners sister was acting manager for the day and made multiple inappropriate remarks about the people in our group. We were all downstairs, outside, as far away from everyone as possible, purchasing no less than 10 bottles of wine, just enjoying the day. We were then asked to leave due to someone walking inside to the bar and answering a phone call from their child. All of us were sitting outside confused as to why we're being kicked out because there was absolutely no issues caused by us the entire time. I then decided to ask the ''manager" if she could explain to me the issue since I was not there for the initial conversation of being kicked out, she proceeded to tell me that we didn't have DDs at the premises (we did) and that due to COVID we all had to leave. They were not enforcing any capacity restrictions or masks so this didn't make sense, she didn't wear a mask the entire time we were there. Unfortunately I didn't get the manager/owners sisters name, but we were completely in shock by how she treated us. We had a group of around 20 people, two of them were making the decision to use this establishment as their wedding venue, but I guarantee not one of us will be back. Truly disappointed. read more
