My coworkers and I were in town for work and wanted a nice dinning experience. August The Mansion had good reviews. We booked reservations for 5:30 on a Wednesday night. We arrived early and were quickly seated at a table. This place's definitely gives intimate date vibes. Perfect for a couples night out. They also have outdoor seating if you wanted to hang around as well as a bar. After being seated it took about 10-15 minutes before a server came to our table. After ordering our meals it took another 40- 45 minutes for the food to come. This place didn't seem that busy so I couldn't understand the wait. I was extremely hungry so the long was time was an annoyance. Luckily the food was good. I ordered the Kale Salad along with the Shrimp & Grits. The Kale salad was fresh and delicious. Great source of vegatables. The shrimp and grits were delicious. A very nice sized portion. Plenty of shrimp and sausage. There were a ton of peppers however I took most of them out. Overall the food is really good. The long wait times brought down my review. If I'm in town again I may give them another shot and hope the food comes out quicker. read more

August the Mansion is a beautiful local spot. We went on our date night, and the vibes were perfect. We had a reservation in one of the back rooms, so it was quiet, lights dimmed, candle light and flowers. Our service was great as well--our server, Mitchel took great care of us. We had the pork chop dinner which was good, but was definitely not the "20 oz" they advertise on the menu, the yam puree was probably the smoothest puree I've ever had and may have been my favorite part of the plate-the mushrooms and onions had almost zero flavor, and the mushrooms were almost watery, which I wasn't a fan of. The steak & frites were good as well. The fries were extra crispy, and the steak was seasoned well and had great flavor. All in all, we'd return to try more of the menu, but we don't think it was good enough to be our "go-to" date night spot. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant! The food was amazing, the restaurant is beautiful and the service was great! We ordered the Sprouts & the whipped brie for appetizers and they were so good. The sprouts were a larger portion than we had anticipated but every bite was to die for. The rosemary focaccia they serve with the whipped brie is really what ties the whole dish together. For an entree we ordered the filet and the pork Ragu. The filet was amazing, cooked perfectly, and the Demi glaze was such a nice sweet touch. The potatoes were amazing and I will be thinking of them for days. The ragu was okay but the filet was definitely the star of the show. Then we went out to the fire pit where we made s'mores. For dinner I had the filet which tasted great. I really liked the potato dauphine! I did also try some of the fries on a friend's plate and they were really good too! We stumbled upon this restaurant on our way home from Kentucky. What a pleasant surprise. The Mansion is a perfect setting for a lovely dinner. Mitchell was our waiter. I loved his enthusiasm towards the menu and he made wonderful recommendations. I started with an Old Fashioned to drink, delicious with an unique flavor (absynth rinse??) Started with the kale salad, the best I've ever had. Then had the Peruvian chicken sitting in the most wonderful sauce, seasoned to perfection accompanied with small potatoes and cauliflower, also seasoned perfectly. Portion was a good size, enough for leftovers! My husband had the Mansion salad full of great ingredients. He loved it so much, I didn't get a bite. He also loved the French onion soup. Although we were full, we had to try a dessert. We ordered the Cherry, chocolate bread pudding with Clementines ice cream. We were scraping the crock, it was so good. This was our second time coming here, we were celebrating our 10th anniversary. We love the beautiful building and bar area, and think it's very pretty inside. The acoustics make it kinda hard to hear what the person across from you is saying, and the wooden chairs are not comfortable at all. Our server was a very bubbly young lady named Emma, who did a great job taking care of us. I had two glasses of wine and we ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer, a house salad each, and we both had the filet entree. I loved it all, but my husband thought there was too much sauce on the sprouts and wasn't crazy about the salad. He loved the entree though. We got the tiramisu for dessert, and took it home with us. The portions are big, so we had some sprouts and I had some steak leftover. I'm looking forward to having it for dinner again tonight!! We will definitely be back. We had to sit in the lunch area, which was inside but outside the main dining area. I would not go back for lunch. No ambiance at all. All walls are painted gray. Nothing on the walls for decoration. So naturally, I thought it would be the perfect setting to treat my grandmother to a Mother's Day brunch. But darlings, what I expected and what we received were two very different things. I paid $80 for two brunch buffets, and sadly, the food felt more suited for a high school cafeteria line than a Mother's Day celebration. Lukewarm eggs, uninspired proteins, and not a single dish that made me want to go back for seconds. The presentation lacked polish, and it felt like no heart or elegance went into what should have been a thoughtful, elevated experience. What made it worse? No one offered us a cocktail or drink menu--despite other tables around us being offered just that. I had to all but beg for a mimosa, and even then, it felt like I was interrupting. When I asked about the buffet, the servers didn't even know what was being served. No descriptions, no warmth--just blank stares and vague gestures toward the food. What an awesome building and spot to eat. It's absolutely beautiful inside and I'm so happy I was able to discover this spot with some friends this weekend. If you use Apple Maps to get there, it might take you a weird way to park, but follow the road to the right of the building to park in their designated lot. I parked in a random lot lol. This used to be a literal house and it's super apparent. The owners have done nothing to the appearance (minus rehab it of course) to take away the quaint and beautiful feel. Hostess is located directly in the front door with a massive staircase behind her. To the right is the dining room which we were seated in. It's a very nice and aesthetic ambiance, and makes it feel very elevated. The room is adorned with a fireplace, chandeliers, and lots of natural light. In the back of the house, you will find restrooms, but directly to the left is an entire other room, which is the bar. This is a bit of a more casual area. Super awesome and I'd love to come back here to eat in that space as well. For food and drink: - espresso martini: this wasn't my favorite, as it had a more citrus taste to it. I personally do not prefer that, but if that's your jam- you'll love it! - cab- great wine and complimented the experience well. - Brussels: insane. Huge portion, cooked wonderfully, and were seasoned deliciously. - whipped bre with bread- obviously a hit, it was heavy! But so good. - pork belly- SO good. Crispy and the seasoning was delicious. - burger- this was cooked a bit too well done for my preference. The aioli was amazing that came with the fries. The fries were amazing and were more of the French pomme frites style. - chocolate cake- I did not order this, a friend did. I'm not a chocolate cake person but it was good! I couldn't recommend August, the mansion more! Between the staff, the amazing food, the beautiful ambience, and the affordability for the luxurious experience, it really is a winner all around. I had the best brussels sprouts of my entire life, some delicious whipped brie cheese with honey, and some apple smoked pork belly that I will rave about forever. I also ordered some pumpkin Bolognese gnocchi and an espresso martini. Came in for the first time for lunch and --WOW--expectations were exceeded. What sets this place apart is the service. Our server Samantha was so kind, polite, professional, and personable. She took care of our group of 12. Everything was so efficient, we never waited for a drink and food came out fresh and quickly. Everyone was very satisfied with their food and drinks were top tier. Don't get the New York strip! If this place wants to keep its rating and status as a top place to visit then they need to get a new person to cook their steaks. I asked for medium rare and it came out cold and purple in the middle. Now I know you can eat beef raw but for $48 and it's "status" I would expect them to get the steak correct. On top of that big shavings of salt on top of the steak and burn chard left overs from the grill let me know they were operating on a dirty grill and don't know how to properly season a steak with salt and pepper. Maybe it's the idea that they can put a bearnaise sauce on it to cover up the burnt outside and overly salted exterior. But even the sauce was bland and lacked all the flavor components I would have expected. The waitress, who was very kind, recognized the steak was under cooked and brought it back. The. She returned and said you just want it brought to temp and not a new steak correct. I said as long as it isn't microwaved I'm okay with bringing it to temp. She said they would broil it. Sadly when it appeared it seemed like the exact same steak. It looked like it hadn't been moved off the plate and the plate wasn't even warm. So it was honestly obvious that they didn't try or their chef is trash at making steaks. Okay that's the negative. Here is why it isn't a straight garbage 0 stars. The appetizer of Brie and bread was very good. Whipped Brie with local honey and rosemary made a very nice topping and the bread was fresh and light yet crispy outside. The old fashioned was nice with a toasted cinnamon stick and a solid pour. My wife enjoyed the pumpkin pasta and her espresso mocktail. So it's obvious they bar is up to standards but their grill is not. They offered us a dessert to say sorry for the terrible steak. But in my opinion since I couldn't even finish the steak the better option to make me want to try their food again would be to comp the steak. I won't go back nor recommend them for any thing other than apps and cocktails. With the final bill including tip of $150, I'll just go to Texas Roadhouse where they know how to clean a grill, season, and cook a steak for half the ending price. Firstly, the staff was incredible. No other way to explain it, other than incredible. We started in the parlor, and were very efficiently moved into dining room when the opening as there. The appetizers were 10/10. The shoe string French fries, and sausage arancini were great, and portions were huge. Salads great. Mains, is where things took a down turn, the pork chop was 50% fat, and 50% chop. Slightly under done. (No one is getting sick) but it had a chew that you don't really look for in a pork chop. We have had some great experiences here but recently the food and service were terrible. Fist the early dinner with a hamburger, the taste and texture was very strange and when asked they server said it is a beef pork mixture. We do not eat pork and complained, the assistant manager said the menu says it has pork ( it did not) we asked for the manager's number, no answer and no call back. The last encounter was at 4:00 pm on a Friday to an empty bar area. We were told the restaurant would not open till 5 but we could sit anywhere in the bar area. We sat at a 4 person table. Then after we were told we couldn't sit at a 4 seat table by the server. Then the hostess said we had to move, followed by the recent graduate assistant manager. A large issue for a bar area with 1 person at the bar...... Realizing that we were wrestling with a pig in the mud and the pig was having fun - it was time to leave. Done with this place. We stayed for a dinner reservation and were pleased with the appetizer and all of the entrees. The fish (halibut) was delicious, as was the seasonal pumpkin bolognese. The filet was tasty, but it was more well done than requested (well done vs medium) and the accompaniments would have exponentially benefited from more salt. The first wine that we ordered (a red blend) had an unpleasant metallic aftertaste, but the second wine we ordered (a Malbec) was very satisfactory. Went on a cold Monday. Great service and food. Pros: excellent Old Fashioned. The arancini (Italian style fried rice balls) are some of the best I have had in the St. Louis area. We had the French Onion soup next. It reminded me of the old Famous and Barr version, only better (older residents of St Louis area may know this soup). Excellent! I then had a half Cornish game hen with cornbread stuffing and lightly cooked green beans with garlic. The chicken tasted excellent if a bit on the dry side. The stuffing was great as were the beans. This place has an unusual selection of an Italian liquor known as Amaro. Having been stationed there many years ago, this was a big plus for me. First off a return trip after the new owners took over and revamped so they had some high expectations to live up to which they succeeded and didn't at same time. Atmosphere is wonderful and revised updated layout is nice also very LOUD, it was hard to talk even at our own table. Service was passable but 2 star, long waits on every course drinks, apps, mains and we skipped dessert and after dinner drinks because we had been there too long already. What happened was, you saw a black family who wanted to have a party, you started at 6500 and kept going up and we agreed every time to pay when you know that you don't make that much money on any single night. We enjoyed a light summer cocktail in the beautiful garden and then were seated in a nearby charming small dining room.
