I've been going here for three years for annual body scans, but they have everything here, injections, clinical trials, spider vein removal, and all kinds of aesthetic enhancing. I have several friends who have had them and said it was extremely painful but my experience was not bad, between the numbing and the ice it wasn't really painful. I was referred to this location from my PCP after I couldn't get an appointment with my previous dermatologist. What I like most about this dermatology group is that it's a well oiled machine. It's a large practice with 9+ dermatologists, surgeons, and PAs. The two times I've been there, the wait/checkin wasn't long, and the staff did not keep me waiting in the room. (I've waited as long as 40 minutes at another practice.) Almost everything is handled digitally - from check-in to the doctor's assessment. (My former derm's office was all paper and a lot of miscommunication). And they also recommended an at-home delivery service for my prescriptions - which I thought was going to be pricy, but ended up being affordable and convenient. I see Katy Hogan, MPAS, PA-C who has a great bedside manner, answers my Qs, and I like the products she referred over to me (face wash, SPF, moisturizer). Nothing was over-prescribed, as she didn't want to overwhelm my skin with useless products. read more

I am extremely disappointed in this clinic. My son had an appointment for his acne during school hours which seemed ok until he had to wait over 2 hours waiting to be called. I called to get an update as they kept telling him he would be seen next, well after all the waiting he was told by the front desk personnel to go back to school and they will rescheduled for a later time. Mind the fact that he had already sat there for over 2 hours and missed school. Then when I called to see what happened I was notified that he was called in after the fact the front desk personnel told him to go back to school. This was a very stressful, disappointing, unprofessional and unorganized clinic. I will never recommend or even think about going back. They absolutely need to pick up their slack. read more

My rating is based solely on my experience with the appointment I had for today. I was unable to see the doctor. A little over a month ago I called to make an appointment as my Dr had recommended them. The people I spoke to over the phone were very friendly. When I first called she tried to check my insurance but it came up that it needed to go to another department to verify which would take a couple of days. I emailed my insurance card and she confirmed receipt. A couple of days later I was called and they confirmed they were in-network so I made my appointment for this afternoon. I've gotten text reminders starting last week and a link to fill out new patient forms. I'd just finished completing my forms and was about to email when I received a call advising that as of January 1 my employer's network through Aetna no longer includes them! Now I called my PCP who gave me another practice which I am making an appointment with but will likely have to wait another month! This should have been verified from the beginning. Dr. Gerber is my dermatologist and he's always so attentive and informative. He listens to the concerns I have and offers real solutions that align with my budget, lifestyle and ethnic background. I've been dealing with dermatitis under my nose for over 3-4 years. I recently had a flare up that started in November 2021. I went to a Dermatologist(not at Bellaire Dermatology) that prescribed two topical medications that didn't work. I'm so glad I found Bellaire Dermatology, Dr Dana and Josh have been great. It's nice to have a doctor who is patient enough to find the cause of the problem. My first appointment went great. We targeted the backs of my arms. After taking before pictures in a private room we began the procedure which took about an hour. The entire time Lisa asked if I was comfortable, which I was. I didn't feel the procedure was painful. I have some numbness in the area post-procedure, but it is slowly going away. No pain at all. I had a pre-cancerous cyst removed. I started with Rachel Chacko and then had Dr. M do the surgery. At every turn this operation is impressive. Every appointment (5 of them) I was taken right on time and they got me out of there about as quickly as possible. The admin staff, nursing staff and Docs are all super. I had a pretty big chunk removed from my face and you can only see the scar now (3 months later) if you look very closely. Amazing work. Rachel talks really quickly and seems like she's in a hurry, but always took the time to answer all my questions and remembered details that I had told her 2 months previously. And Dr. M made me feel like I was his only patient of the day, making sure I completely understood every aspect of the surgery. This is not a warm, fuzzy place, however. It's a big operation that runs with incredible efficiency and professionalism. And it's freezing in there! Bottom line, though, is that most medical offices could learn a LOT from these guys as to how to run an office. My only negative is that I paid for the procedure right when it happened, which was my mistake. We all know that nobody in a medical office knows how much anything will cost until after the insurance companies apply their discounts and partial payments and whatever voodoo magic they do. Disappointment is what I experienced here. My appointment was at 10:30; I arrived at 10am just in case I was able to be seen early. 10:30 came and went. I got up at 10:45 and asked the front desk how much longer I should be waiting and the lady said I was next. Then, a patient whose appointment was after mine, was called back before me for the same doctor. Needless to say, I became more annoyed. 11am arrives and I'm still in the waiting room. I got up yet again to ask what the issue is....the lady at the front desk tells me she *just* gave my paperwork to the back office for them to call me. My response: Ummmm excuse me?! So I've been waiting for nothing?! She ignored me and disappeared. I'm finally called back to be seen. I explained all of my issues and then the assistant has the nerve to tell me, "please only tell me what concerns you most because the doctor might not have enough time to address your issues." Wow. I reminded her I've waited over an hour to be seen and how rude of her to say that to a patient.... I am here for a service so why wouldn't I explain all of my issues?! Katie Hogan was a decent enough doctor when I finally was attended to, but I doubt I will be returning. For the inconvenience, my co-pay should've been waived, but it wasn't. I do not recommend this practice at all. EDIT: About a month after my awful visit here, I received a bill in the mail. For what? I had already paid my co-pay at the time of visit and I was never warned about any additional fees. Dr.Hogan had billed me for a pimple removal and never mentioned that I might have to pay extra; it is not a small bill either. If I would've known I was going to be charged, I would've just waited til the pimple popped on its own. Ridiculous! EDIT: Went back to my follow up appointment and gave Dr.Hogan another try. Beware of SURPRISE MEDICAL BILLS!!! They'll take your money at the end of your appointment and then months after your appointment, you'll check your mailbox and find you owe even more money. This practice engages in **predatory medical balance billing** and you'll be on the hook for any penny your insurance company doesn't pay. I even called to make sure this wasn't a mistake. (Also, before my visit I consulted with the billing department specifically to ensure this was in network for me and what the cost would be. I do my homework and I was still caught surprised in the end.) By the way, I wasn't even consulted by a doctor. I saw a physicians assistant. It's still $$$. Also, I found their recommended pharmacy is more expensive than just getting your prescriptions filled at Walgreens. Plus, it takes a long time to receive your medications. I wouldn't be surprised if they're getting a kickback from this pharmacy and that's why the medicine prices are so high. Terrible experience. They screwed up an annual skin exam causing me to go through painful and time consuming correction. Assistant failed to give me prescription so I had to ask for it. Two requests to send doctors order for imaging were not responded to. Third request they said they could not fax but could email. Email just had the Doctors name an and internal order number, no instructions about what to image. You can't talk or communicate direct with Doctor or assistant, just deal with whoever answers the phone. No patient portal. I will urge Methodist to take them off their referral list and ask for another referral. read more

I was dumbfounded to find negative reviews for Bellaire Dermatology Associates. As for myself, the experience I have had with this practice has been the polar opposite. I am not as frequent at reviewing on Yelp as I used to be, but I definitely felt it was time to dust off my keyboard and share why I am giving BDA 5 stars. In 2009, I had a severe eczema outbreak that covered my whole body with the exception of my extremities and above my neck. Up to this point, I did not even know I had eczema and now I was plagued with it severely. Most of my physicians are in the Methodist network, which I was referred to one of their dermatologists. That experience was gut wrenching. I wanted to mitigate my condition as soon as possible along with an understanding of how I could prevent such an attack in the future. That's not how it went down. In a nutshell, the physician from Methodist prescribed me steroids and basically slagged me off. She did not seem interested in setting up follow up visitations or helping my concerns as a patient. This was a dire pause in my life and the person I seek help from, did not seem to care. I immediately went back to my primary care physician and said this is not going to work for me, "find me plan b!" Without pause, Bellaire Dermatology Associates was recommended and my physician highly regarded them. Dr. Kimberly Mullinex (who is not currently with the practice) took a completely nurturing approach to my condition. We went through a grocery list of what I was doing to my skin. We tackled each issue one by one. It was not a "here's your steroids and see you later" kind of deal. I left with three different medications in addition to an action plan of what I needed to do on my own. I had follow up visitations and within a short span of time we got my condition under control. I was able to wear skirts and short sleeved shirts again! I was pleased with the attention to detail and the care that was provided to me because an experience like this can weigh heavy on your psyche. From that point, I trusted that Bellaire Dermatology Associates has my best interest at heart. This allowed me to be comfortable to talk with them about other aesthetic concerns I had with myself. This was when I was introduced to the cosmetic side of their practice and where I met Dr. Craig Teller. There is an artistry to what he does. He evaluates thoroughly with you what you are trying to achieve and the best path to get there. I have had treatments from botox to lasers. When you get botox for your first time, you are inclined to think that you will walk away with a frozen solid face and everyone will notice. Dr. Teller's approach is to NOT make you look like "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," but a natural look where expressions can be had! There is an energy in his practice where everyone is enjoying what they do. It has been nice over the years to witness Dr. Teller developing his employees. He is always educating them and wants them to understand the "why" behind a remedy or treatment. When it comes to getting down to business he can be serious, but also has a witty disposition that can put you at ease when you are being zapped by a laser or having a needle in your face. You are not a number to him, but person he is caring for. He inquires about your interests and you end up having interesting conversations with him. I have a lot of respect for him as a person, doctor, and a mentor to those in his profession. Dr. Teller is in high demand, so yes, you have to book appointments in advance. It is well worth the wait because I completely trust him with my skin! Cosmetic procedures are not usually covered under insurance plans. The staff at Bellaire Dermatology Associates is always looking for ways to save you money through the Brilliant Distinctions Program. They will work with your budget to achieve the results you are looking for. His staff adds valuable support to your experience. I have even had them put make-up on me before I had to go back to work. In addition to being treated by Dr. Teller, I have also had facials by their Aesthetician Sonia. She is reasonably priced and has a lot of experience. There is no question why I am giving them five stars. If you have read any of my previous reviews, you will find in addition to my appraisal of the services being provided, I put a lot of weight on the overall experience. I think reviewing a business after one visit or experience is not fair at all. It is our duty as a customer to make the business aware of any substandard experience and give them an opportunity to correct it. Things are not always going to be perfect, but it is what they do about it that should count the most. I have been going to Bellaire Dermatology for over 5 years and "finally" got around to sharing my experiences with them. I worry about the Yelp system of reviews. Bellaire Dermatology is a professionally operated medical clinic with great doctors and PAs. If you think being treated by a PA is an indication that you are getting less than full medical treatment, I would take issue with that. The PAs at Bellaire Dermatology are closely supervised by their physician partners and often call in the MD for consultation or followup to a visit. I have had several Mohs procedures by Dr. Chilukuri and now receive my general dermatology care from him and the PA assigned to his supervision. They are an excellent team and I feel as if I have always received the best of care there. I feel sorry for the businesses and professionals that have to deal with this kind of anonymous review system. It clearly has more to answer for than do the professionals who suffer this kind of panning. I wonder if it isn't a coordinated effort from someone with an axe to grind. read more

No. Just no. If someone asked me if I liked this place, I would say no. If someone asked me if I would recommend this place, I would say no. No. Just no. I came in for a treatment for bumps on my arm. Prior to this visit, I had gone to a doctor's office and they had told me what it was. Just to confirm, upon the request of my hubby, I decided to get a second opinion to make sure -- and what better person to know than a dermatologist right? I learned about this place from my hubby who came here to get his wart removed. When I first came in, I was given this topical on-site to cure me of these bumps, which cost close to $200. I'm like, "Sure, whatever. As long as it gets the job done." My alternative to the topical was freezing it off, but I opted for the original recommendation because the doctor assured me that it was just as effective. We had a long discussion about this topical, so I figured, "Ok. Works for me." After a month, out of 6-7 bumps that needed to be treated, only ONE was effectively removed. I came back for a visit to the office hoping for some answers, because I expected to get my money's worth. Almost $200 for a DROP per bump would make anyone feel scammed if it didn't work, ESPECIALLY after they had told me it was JUST AS EFFECTIVE as freezing it off. When I came back for my second visit (literally, a few hours ago), the doctor was immediately assumed that one or two bumps weren't able to be cured. Ummm...no. I told her only ONE was cured and the rest wasn't. So, she immediately sat down, gave me a different topical and didn't even give me any explanation. The appointment literally took 2 minutes. So then, when I went to the front office to pay, the Hispanic check-out lady was telling me about the current situation, but she wasn't coherent enough for me to understand the scope of it. Rather, she just muttered a few words here and there, so I assumed she was talking to herself -- no, she was talking to me. When I asked for more explanation, she gave me an attitude about it. Umm..what? She basically was telling me how she wasn't sure whether my insurance will pay for the whole thing (I had credit), but ended with "I'm sure you'll be ok." My reply was, "Well, is it possible to call them and see? I really would prefer to just pay it now". She snapped at me and said, "No, that's not possible." Attitude, attitude, attitude. She asked me when I wanted my next follow-up and I said I'll just call them. She could tell I didn't want to be there anymore, so she was like "Are you sure? You know, it requires three visits". At that point, I REALLY wanted to tell her off, but figured it was just best to leave the situation before I blew a fuse. I said "We'll see". They didn't even give me a freaking invoice of what was done!! How unprofessional! Yelp, let me explain to you why her "3 visit" statement gave me more than enough reason to not come back. First of all, I was given the impression that I only needed to come back TWICE, with the follow-up being optional since the medication should have worked (again, I was given that confidence it would and assurance). I feel like this lady was just saving face, because another customer could tell how DISSATISFIED I was. Yelpers...I normally give fair judgments on the establishments that I go to. I try to not be biased, but in this situation, this is as fair of a review as I can give. Oh..and I still was charged for the new topical that was given to me, which made me ask, "Why didn't this happen in the first place?" So NO. No, do not come here and waste your money. I think this place is a victim of their own success. Dr. Teller the main guy here is a famous doctor and is a great psoriasis advocate. However getting an appointment with him is a 6 months in the future or longer ordeal. So I'm currently seeing Dr. Jennifer L. Maender, M.D. She is nice and will listen but the entire place seems like they have too many patients and not enough time. I have been satisfied so far with my visits and without health insurance they are reasonably priced. They are up to date with treatments and she did take into consideration my circumstances and history. Half of finding a good doctor is being a good patient. Take in your list of things to talk about so you don't forget and write down anything you want to remember. I've had better derms and worse. So I'm sticking this one in the middle. I was a little delayed on my last appointment with her but the amount of time that she spends with me let me know she was probably giving the patients before me the same amount of "face-time" as she was giving me, so it is understandable if she is a little late. I wasn't upset that I was a little late seeing her. She answered all my questions and even wrote down all of the differential diagnoses that were possible.
