HORRIBLE HOTEL! Sandra with the horrific red hair is the worst front desk worker, I've ever met. Does the Bellanca hotel hire anybody??? BEWARE! Please don't stay at this hotel. The room we had was the size of a bathroom, the fireplace in the room kept turning on and off like the room and place was haunted. The reviews at this hotel were misleading. We wanted to switch rooms but front desk is apparently closed at 8pm. What front desk is closed? The next day ruined because I didn't get a full nights rest and no one wanted to accommodate us on the room we stayed in. It was a tiny room and front desk was extremely rude, Sandra really made the stay uncomfortable and will NEVER stay here ever again. I had the option to choose Mt. Ada and Pavillion Hotel and I regret it so much that I chose Bellanca hotel. This was supposed to be a relaxing stay at the island and it was a disaster because of how horrible our experience was at this 0 star hotel. I'd give this 0 stars for the room, service and front desk if I could. Please stay away!!! They need to keep better check in their management, save your money go elsewhere!!!! read more

Actually a happy coincidence that ended up in us staying at this hotel. We weren't able to book our normal hotel and were looking around for something when this hotel came up. A lot of good reviews so we figured we'd give it a shot. Not disappointed at all. Their staff is super nice and accommodating. We booked the Miramare suite, but strangely ended up in the Sorrento suite. I would have said something except they are the same price so we just took it. The room was really big and super clean, two big pluses. The bathroom was spotless and had a deep tub. They have complementary beach chairs and towels, and the beach chairs were really comfortable. The bed was soft, and the pull out couch bed was big and perfect for my two sons. Good location away from the loud music on Saturdays, but close enough to everything that it's not a problem walking to all the restaurants. Definitely a recommended hotel if you're going to Catalina. read more

This hotel is still under renovations. The check in /out was great, the front desk employees were really nice and helpful. The room did not have a microwave neither a fridge , and relatively small for this overpriced, hotel . WE checkout on Thursday and rented a room at the Holiday Inn which was way bigger and have the convenience and accommodations of a microwave and a fridge, a full closet too. read more

My wife and I stayed here in the past when it was the Portifino and we were happy to return. The room was clean and spacious, and the location can't be beat. We did have several instances in which the front desk staff were less than helpful. - Can we park our bikes? "No, there might be a bike rack down the street ". - Can we borrow a plate and coffee mug from the restaurant? "No, the restaurant is closed" - Can we leave bag at the front desk for an hour after we check out? "I don't think so" (then finally agreed). Just got back from a 3 day stay and this is probably one of the few nice hotels in Catalina. They also have a nice rooftop which over looks the beach. The staff is very friendly from the from desk to the staff at the restaurant. The rooms were clean but very small. Rooms get pretty hot if the AC is not on. The hotel staff was on point! I was blown away by how friendly they were. They offered us beach towels, bikes and the rooftop lounge while we were waiting to check in and even when we checked out they allowed us to leave our bags in the lobby and sit on the rooftop. The rooms were a little small but for 2 people it was perfect! The beds, oh the beds, they were so comfy! We had to know what the brand was and are going to buy it ASAP! My husband and I stayed at Bellanca Hotel for a weekend trip, Friday-Sunday. During our previous trip to Catalina, we stayed at the Holiday Inn so this time, I wanted to try a hotel that was steps away from the beach- Bellanca did not disappoint, the location was great for me. I give a huge shout out to the concierge named Karen. She was extremely helpful and welcoming to my husband and I. She shared some information on places to eat, things to do, and was very accommodating to us during our stay. The only downfall we experienced was the size of the room we booked. It appeared to be more bed than room as in walking space and there was not enough counter space to place our belongings. But we used what we had and made it all work. The hotel had good cable which was enjoyable for the times that we stayed in the room or had a late start to our day. The bathroom had the amenities needed for a bathroom and I liked that it was shower-only. The AC unit worked good which we were happy about because the weather was heating up! Also, the room comes with a mini refrigerator not a microwave, but we found out that a microwave could be requested. Overall, our stay at Bellanca Hotel was pleasant and added to our awesome weekend trip to Catalina Island. I would recommend this hotel and a trip to the Island to anyone. read more

I loved the hotel. The beds were so soft, I wish I knew where I could purchase the mattress topper, pillows, and comforter. We rented a courtyard king and king suite for our friends. The suite was cool. The courtyard king was great with a nice lighted mirror for putting on makeup . My friends enjoyed their stay and liked their balcony. We loved the rooftop deck, the free bike rentals and the option to leave our luggage while we waiting for our boat the next day. They were so nice to us too. I'm really glad we chose this place. My fiancé and I have come to the island once every year for the past seven years and we talk about it so much every time. I wanted to bring my close friends here and they liked it too. We want to go back and do more things like kayaking, a tour, mini golf, and I heard there was horseback riding . I have done parasailing, a glass bottom boat tour, and a hummer tour of the island. All of which was awesome. I've tried snorkeling but my fiancé liked it more because I had trouble with the snorkel. So he got to do the power snorkeling as I watched. I would recommend staying at the Bellanca hotel and taking advantage of the free bike rentals. The hotel was a few feet from the beach and main walkway with shops. We loved how close our hotel was to everything. We would stay again. read more

I am so glad my fiancé and I stayed here. The first night we had told concierge that we only had hot water for the shower and they moved us to a courtyard king free of charge! For my 1,100th review I wanted to write about this very simple, cute and amazing trip that I took for the first time to Catalina Island. We first took a boat from Long Beach to Avalon it was I believe 1 and half hour long boat ride which went by really quickly. Once we reached the docks the hotel and the island is small soo everything is literally walking distance. We checked into the hotel drop our bags and stayed here for a few days. I like the how the hotel room doesn't really have the regular type doors but the sliding ones and this place was pretty quiet. In the morning they do have fruits, bread, coffee, tea and OJ for your meal. You can also sit outside and look at the ocean view. What more do you want? Service was nice and didn't have a problem at all with booking the hotel. The rooftop deck is also pretty nice to do some sun tanning if you'd like. I can't wait to come here again and try some other activities and food ! :) read more

Rooms and photos on website are photoshopped. Once arriving everything looks much smaller. There's no room service due to COVID. Bar and restaurant close at 9 so we had to make sure to get snack and food before hand. It's pretty expensive if you're not booking in advance. These rooms are maybe worth $200 a night. Not $490. The good thing about the Bellanca is that it's on the main strip. Everything is walking distance && you can see ocean view as soon as u walk outside hotel. read more

This is a leeeeetle hotel both in the number of rooms and size of rooms. It is the smallest hotel room I've stayed at in the U.S. and I suppose that's why they say it's European-inspired. But remember, it's not the size of the hotel that matters, it's what you can do with that hotel that counts ;) Conveniently located across the sandy strip of slackers aka "beach," they have beach towels and beach chairs that you can use. There's free wifi, a lovely sundeck for relaxing or catching up on work, continental breakfast and AC in the rooms. I'm spoiled so I also love the fact they have lemon-cucumber infused water in the lobby everyday. The staff are helpful and we were able to get tour e-tickets printed for us at the front desk. It also has one of the more famous restaurants in town on the ground floor and after seeing the menu I've been craving Italian food ever since. Our room was clean and there is plenty of hot water. It's also maybe 0.5 miles from the port - you don't need a taxi if you're in decent shape and not carrying much luggage. The only downside as others have mentioned are the beds. They could possibly stick a slab of concrete between the sheets and mattress and it would feel better. Or maybe just a mattress pad would suffice. But how much time should one spend lazying around on the bed anyways? It's Catalina. Go out, snuba, drive a golf cart, ride a glass-bottom boat, and check out the buffalo. read more

We stayed here after a horrible experience at a nearby hotel. This was a breath of fresh air. Friendly hotel staff, clean rooms, great housekeeping, cruiser bikes and beach chairs to use at your own leisure. Only thing I think that could improve is the breakfast. The website says continental breakfast so we were thinking eggs, sausage, etc but it's mostly bakery goods. I'd call it a light breakfast. Though if they served a bigger breakfast this hotel would literally have it all! Love the rooftop terrace. We stayed in a courtyard king and were very pleased! I think next time we will opt to stay in the "portofino suite" that looks over the ocean at least for a night it's very $$$$. But the view looks amazing! Went with my girlfriend for a couple of days and can say this is the nicest, coziest, most modern hotel I've ever been to. Staff was very welcoming, free bikes for up to 4 hours, and free baggage service where they send it to a baggage claim for you right across from where the boat departs so you don't have to carry it the whole day you leave. This was our second time staying at this lovely hotel. The swelling crowds of the island had subsided since we were visiting in November, but the island was still balmy, the coastal waters clear, clean and calm. Maybe we're really in Santorini? It's hard to tell. Punctuating our stay was the delightfully romantic Ristorante Villa Portofino. In these trying economic times, it's nice to know that some restaurants are providing a fair value for your dining dollar. Such is the case with the Villa Portofino. Get there between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and choose between several succulent entrees that are priced well below their regular menu offerings. I opted for a lovely cut of salmon doused with a creamy basil sauce. The entree also included a hefty dinner salad mounded with generous chunks of bleu cheese. Afterwards, a thick scoop of spumoni ice cream greeted me, rivaling the gelato I've had in Italy. After dinner, reward yourself with a stroll down the boardwalk. When you're back at the hotel, if you've booked a balcony room, enjoy the sprawling views of the marina, and the hearth of your fireplace. Can life get any better? read more

Such a Cute and Quaint Hotel Close to Everything in Avalon. My husband booked our stay here at the Villa Portofino Hotel. It was perfect. Close to everything and we got a room with an ocean view. The service was nice and very helpful. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were a good size and decorated nicely. Rooms were decorated nicely, beds were not very comfortable but the place is well kept. I liked that they pick you up from the boating dock and drop you off when you leave. This is such a cute looking hotel. The sundeck is great place to sit and pass time with perfect views of the ocean. WHERE WE STAND: We love this hotel. Well kept and close to everything. We almost felt like that was what we paid for...the entertainment of the room's view. The room is stocked with coffee for the AM, the room had air conditioning, it's close to everything without being in the middle of it... And one of the best things... A rocking, jamming, fun beach bus stop was right across the way. Staying here was a disappointing experience. For the price I would spend a little more and stay at the Pavillon Hotel. The rooms all face a tight courtyard. You hear everything from your room and there are no windows that face outside the hotel. The bed did not have a box spring and was worn into two depressions. I had to sleep on the very edge of the mattress to get any sort of back support. They have a continental breakfast that is adequate but don't have any place to eat it. The upstairs patio is closed until 10:00 am so you can't enjoy it while eating breakfast. Overall, skip it. read more

Just returned from a Easter Weekend stay at this beautiful hotel. Yes it has all been said before and it is all true. It's in a great location for exploring beautiful Catalina Island. The room was immaculate and housekeeping was top notch.The staff are wonderful and are always ready to help. This was our second time staying at the Hotel Villa Portofino and when we got to our room we found a wonderful handwritten welcome back card and gift. The Hotel Villa Portofino brings true European Hospitality to  Catalina Island. We found breakfast more than adequate - lots of fresh fruit and a variety of pastries etc. I loved this place and cannot recommend it highly enough. We stayed here 3-6 to 3-8. The location is great of course. Easy to find and welcoming. Service: Front desk hostess was friendly. Check in and out was super quick. Less than 5 min. Amenities: Complimentary breakfast was delish. Eating on their patio which was about 200 feet from the shore was one of our highlights. Homemade muffins. Not much of a breakfast just fruit, muffins, scones, coffee, tea, and O.J. But still good. We didn't eat at the Italian restaurant but maybe would have if there was some kind of insensitive for staying there. Even if they would have delivered to the sun deck. If you are a bed snob, Bellanca has the most amazing beds you have ever stayed in. My husband and I did a 48 hour getaway to escape our children and loved how beautiful this hotel is. The room was nice. The location was super convenient. We got lucky and were able to check in early. The front staff was friendly. However, the carpet walkways were dirty and gross on the above floors/rooftop. Our room had paper thin walls. My partner and I could hear every sound above us and outside our room. It was not a good night's rest for a vacation. Maybe the rest of the floors are better, but the first floor is TERRIBLE! We don't often do reviews either because we generally tolerate a lot or don't feel the need to speak out unless it's super great. However, I am not satisfied with our stay. I would recommend asking for a different room if booked on the first floor. We will not choose this hotel again. read more

This hotel is really nice and I would recommend staying there. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are very clean. The reception staff are also very friendly and accommodating. Correction, all of the staff are friendly. I loved the bar/restaurant employees. If you sit at the bar, make sure to ask if Gabriel is there. He's awesome! Thin walls are the reason for 4 stars. You can hear everything! We could hear the people talking in the room above us, playing music, etc. We could even hear a woman talking on speakerphone in the courtyard. If you're a deep sleeper, no worries but if you're easily woken up this place might not be the best. read more

We loved staying here! The location was great and we loved how they offered complimentary bikes! You have a 4 hour limit and can see so much within that time. There's also a bar inside the hotel which is really convenient. We absolutely loved the rooftop deck as well! The rooms are on the smaller side but I really think everything else makes up for it. Rude front desk workers! I came to Catalina from Newport! I called a day ahead and asked if it was possible to have an early check in. They said yes. I arrived on the island at 11am and requested the early checkin that they said was possible. They just gave me the PR statements. I've been sitting in the lobby since 11:15 am... it's 2pm. I've asked multiple times if the rooms was ready and they said they will keep me posted. They don't care! read more
