Best dinner we had in Bologna! The service was quick and we made sure to make a reservation on our last night visiting as the first night in Bologna they were packed- we learned our lesson and glad we had!

We had a decent meal at Da Nello, just off the main road between the train station and Piazza Maggiore (a bit closer to the Piazza.) The place was packed and, without a reservation they were able to seat us (albeit at the farthest away table outside.) They do have an indoor dining area (good to know since, as of this writing, the heat wave is pretty intense in Italy.) Our server was attentive and friendly and we appreciated that there were vegetarian options on the menu. (On the website menu there's a separate vegetarian section.) We had the Tortelloni of the day and the mushroom risotto. Both were pretty good. Though not necessarily our favorite in this part of the country. It did the trick though. We appreciated the generous bread basket and I enjoyed the house sangiovese wine. I don't know that this would be our top choices of restaurants if we were back in Bologna, but it serviced our needs with no complaints on this evening.

Last night in Bologna and we were lucky to get a table here outside. Had tried to get in on earlier nights, but a reservation is a must. Best dinner of our 3 night stay by far. Pasta bolognese - a must for me. Fabulous with just the right amount of sauce and perfectly al dente pasta. Seafood risotto for the hubby - I wish you could taste the seafood broth it was cooked in. Divine. Flavor on steroids. Veg on the side for the Californian in me - could not get enough veg in Italy. Service authentically friendly and appreciated. There is a difference to touristy friendly, right? Highly recommend.

Da Nello was recommend by our tour guide as a great restaurant close to the city. Although, the majority of restaurants in the area are more touristy, which we were vigilant to stay away from, this hidden gem in a great location, was so good that after our lunch at Da Nello, we decided to return for dinner. Hands down one of the best meals we had out of Florence, Rome, Venice and Bologna. Ricky was our waiter, who is the son of the owner. Great guy and offered some very helpful and excellent suggestions. This is a one stop shop to try all the regional highlights, tortellini in broth, tortelloni in the amazing red sauce and an unexpected, fantastic dish was with the pasta with the sausage and mushrooms. Wine was excellent as well. It's a must try.

A good spot. It's a lot bigger than it looks - a large dining room downstairs. We both tried pasta - the penne was good (not great) the spaghetti was good (not great). Then we got the veal with ham and cheese over the top, pretty good. Plenty of servers and they were very attentive and friendly.

Summary: Great food and atmosphere, ultra-fresh fish Room: Most of the places we went to in Bologna were a little cramped, with Da Nello a little more so. It's like the difference between coach seating and basic economy on American Airlines--probably feels tighter than it really is. Still, the waiters were able to get around and it did create an intimate atmosphere with the neighbors who were mostly Italian, tall, slim, and gorgeous. So maybe it's a positive after all? Service: Competent and professional. The waiters spoke a little English, we spoke a little Italian, and we worked things out for the most part. We did miss on the fish order though--we thought we were getting about 1.5 lbs of whole fish for two and they thought we wanted a big fish at 2.5 lbs. We managed, and it was very good. Food: This is what we went for and we weren't disappointed. We had a large whole sole and mushroom risotto with fresh porcini. The fish was really delicious and perfectly cooked with a very simple preparation of lemon and butter. We also had some great wines that were a pretty good value, though not as good as at Dal Biassanot. We washed the food down with a big brunello and a chianti Classico--both delicious and well priced. Dessert was also very good. Value: Pretty good for Italy and very good compare to the US. Prices in Bologna were less than Parma and wines were very well priced.

AMAZING PASTA!!! We went here for a late dinner in Bologna on a Sunday night. We were looking for something with some traditional bologna fare. We ordered 3 different pastas and loved them all. My favorite by far was the gramigna. So creamy and delicious. We also enjoyed the lasagna and the pumpkin tortellini. The service was great. We finished the meal with the tiramisu... best I've ever had! I'd highly recommend this place. An amazing experience without breaking the bank.

Amazing food and quaint vibe. I had heard that the city of Bologna was known for their food so was excited to visit the town for a day. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Italy and felt more like a locals spot. Went here on a recommendation. Had to try the pasta with bolognese sauce and also ordered the lasagna. Great food, great wine and great service. Hopefully I get to come back one day.

Warm and home style welcome and service. The waiter, with a remarkable and pleasant regional accent gave very good suggestions in a friendly but discrete manner. The ambience reminds the 70ies but is kept in good conditions. The food was simply top. I got my personal must have in bologna that is lasagne, followed by cotoletta alla bolognese with truffles both excellent. I would have liked a bigger portion of lasagne but it's just because I love them. Pricing was correct. I look forward to my next visit in bologna.

Not terribly friendly and not terribly efficient but I would say they were a bit more attentive than the norm. They did hook us up with some complimentary limoncello shots which was a really nice touch. Ambiance (3.5/5): A little quieter since it's off the beaten path which I like. A pleasant, homey restaurant. Drinks (4.5/5): We shared a bottle of wine. And the aforementioned limoncello shots.
