Belle Isle Casino is a perfect place to have a wedding!!!! My son just got married there the end of October 2021 and him and his wife love Detroit. They both knew that they wanted to find a venue somewhere within the city and initially they were going to have their wedding at the Madison. After two canceled dates, due to Covid, they ended up switching to Belle Isle Casino and I'm really glad they did. The place is beautiful- although it could use some cosmetic work- you have to really love that antique-urban style. It has two lovely staircases coming down from the second floor. We had 180 people, but we only used the main floor. (Second floor is beautiful) My son got married outside with the Detroit skyscrapers in the background. The weather could've been better, but it was beautiful anyways. The wedding planner set the room up, so they were 10 tables on both rooms there's a room on the left in the room on the right and a middle part where they set up the bar. Their first dance was in the middle, but then they ended up moving the tables and creating a dance floor on the right side. (Amazing day btw) Family and the out of town guests stayed at the book Cadillac and it was easy to shuttle over to Belle Isle. People from out of town loved the venue and being able to see the city. The only thing that I would warn anyone about is the bathrooms- there is one upstairs- but there's also one outside where you actually leave the building and go to -that's actually the one I used because I didn't want to keep going up and downstairs. Bathrooms are not luxurious- they are actually more like your elementary school bathrooms. Very utilitarian. You can have glam all over the place, but you're not going to get it in the bathrooms. You have to bring in all of your own tables, chairs etc. The caterer was Two Unique in Royal Oak and they were amazing. My guests told me that the filet was better than any they've had at any restaurant. This is the longest review I think I've ever written but I would've really liked to have been able to read one of these before my son's wedding. My husband and I got married on Belle Isle in September of 2007. We had the ceremony at the Scott Fountain and the reception in the Belle Isle Casino. We rented out the first floor of the Casino only (it costs a little more to rent out both floors, but since the restrooms are upstairs, you end up going up there anyways). They supply the tables and chairs only, but you will need to rent table linens and chair covers, because they are not really nice-looking tables or chairs (but when they are covered, they are completely fine). You are allowed to enter the casino either 2 or 3 hours prior to your actual start time---can't remember exactly how long. We had to bring everything in----dishes, glasses, food, drink, etc. The catering company we used (2 Unique catering in Royal Oak) took care of all of that for us, though. They also took care of the table and chair linens. Because you can bring in your own alcohol, it is easy to save money on that, but you have to really consider how much people might be drinking because you don't want to run out or end up with bottles and bottle left over! They have two nice bar sets ups on the first floor, but you also need to hire your own bar tenders, or have the catering company you use do that for you. I don't recall the exact square footage of the casino offhand, but I know we were able to seat 180 people down there fairly comfortably, but had to move tables after dinner for the dance floor. We didn't do anything at all with lighting; the interior is really beautiful and the natural lighting combined with the lighting they have already was more than enough. Only downside was trying to get answers or assistance from the people working at Belle Isle. It was the only difficult part of the whole wedding, but I know they are very busy with a limited staff to handle all requests, so it wasn't that big of an issue. I had to be extremely persistent (maybe even annoying!! :) to get any answers from them. All in all, it was an absolutely beautiful location for a wedding, and we got (and still get) a ton of compliments. It was safe, affordable, beautiful, and unique, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind taking on a venue that requires a little more planning and work to use than a venue that has everything on-site (food, beverages, linens, etc.) read more

So Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending two of a my good friend's wedding here! Pretty cool venue when it comes to the antique looking building built in 1907! Very classy style. When you walk up the stairs to the huge building with a gorgeous stone balcony, great for picture taking, surrounded by water and close to the infamous fountain of belle isle. This is a true Detroit beaut! The inside reminded me of a mansion ballroom of sorts, large enough for any party. Nice large windows surrounding throughout to show the beautiful view. The only bummer was the bathroom situation because I either had to go up many stairs in my heels to the upstairs bathroom or outside, in the then cold weather, to the outdoor restroom. But eh, who cares! My friends decorated the place with style and poise and made it a real night to remember! So with this place you do get the option to show your style and fashion to decorate how you like. The canvas is yours! Hope this gives some good in site to a wonderful piece of Detroit's history! a beautiful location to host a wedding. recently went when some friends tied the knot and the whole thing was so laid back and fun. the building itself is a little run down, but in a completely good way. we had a great time exploring the place and checking out every little corner. the grounds are beautiful, the fountain is super close by and the river is a short 2 minute walk away. overall i think this is a great alternative for a wedding. our friends even got married outside the casino on the patio and just moved the party indoors directly after. love, juston read more

I wanted to rent the Belle Isle Casino for my wedding 14 months away. I called and scheduled an appointment to view it. Nobody showed up to let us in when we got there. I went to the office and spoke with someone who assured me this was not common practice and if I book the space, the service would be great. The date I wanted had a hold on it for a week, so she agreed to call me the following week to let me know if the date opened up. SHE NEVER CALLED. I called the following day and never got a return phone call. I sent an email letting her know I was going elsewhere and I was very disappointed. She returned my email and apologized and I thought that was the end of it. Oh no... She called me a few days later YELLING that I "ain't return her email." and it was my fault because I never called. Needless to say, despite the beauty and uniqueness of this venue, I cannot recommend it due to the inept staff. LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. I called for information and to set up a time to look at the building. The lady was very unhelpful. They do not set appointments to meet with the events coordinator, they have an hour window just once a week to look at the building midday. I'm so disappointed that it is so limited. She said it's a $2000 rental fee, but online says $1400, sh said that is for the 2015 year, but it doesn't specify that on the information packet, so that's aggravating to have different things told to you. When I explained the information the government website and packet had she just got very snoody and dry. I asked for a manager, she said they are unavailable and asked for my info to be called back. I wish I was rating this place much higher than one star, but I just can't. I hosted my wedding there a week ago and while the building itself is beautiful, nothing else about it was. The staff seemed okay to work with in the beginning, yes a little difficult but I was able to reserve my day and at the time that was all that mattered. Closer to the date I started to panic due to the uncertainty of Belle Isle, whether the state would abide by the contract if they took over. When I asked, not many people knew what answer to give me, which wasn't something I was having an easy time with-being a few weeks from my wedding and all. Once that was figured out and I was given an answer I was okay. Then came the rest. I wanted to add on some time so that my event didn't have to end at 11. I originally had everything figured out so that it would go later, by having the ceremony and the reception at two different places. However, one person talked me into doing both things there because it would be easier. Easier for who? :/ Unfortunately although I added on as much time as I could the party ended a little before 11-the staff came in and started tearing everything down before the last dance even started. We had scheduled our rehearsal for Friday, the day before and I got a call that morning to confirm our event for Saturday and I made sure to remind them of the rehearsal. I was told everything would be set up and someone would be there at 2 and we would be done at 4. When we all got there, no one was there to let us in and when I called the office they gave me attitude and then sent someone after we waited outside for over 20 minutes. Then they kicked us out at 3:25. It was really annoying. Saturday came and I honestly thought everything was going to work out because I had a GREAT caterer (2Unique) and Day of Coordinator (Tammara of Grand Jour Events). Set up went well-except for the part where half of the lights were out upstairs so while changing the lights the covers to them kept falling onto the floor and breaking or onto tables and messing up the tables and getting glass everywhere. After the fourth one I was about to tell them to just not bother anymore but I was pulled away to do something else so I guess it got done. The ceremony went well, except the part where people from other wedding parties were walking in and taking photos in and around the casino (literally during the ceremony-wtf) The reception went well with the exception that there is no option to dim the lights so it was either super bright in there or no light at all. Then came tear down time. A bunch of guys who looked like they walked in off the street, not in any sort of uniform or ID came in and tried ordering drinks at the bartender saying that they were part of the party and that I sent them there to get free drinks. Obviously that was something the bartender was familiar with and told them no and that she would be alerting me of that. They quickly changed their tune and started taking down tables and chairs. By the time they made it upstairs the only people left were my immediate family, a few servers, and my coordinator. And the people tearing everything down. We were squaring up with all the vendors and one of my envelopes set aside for Vendor Tips was missing. Everyone looked through the linens, boxes, garbages, everything. It was never found. But I can tell you right now that it wasn't one of my family members stealing money. None of the guys cleaning up would look me in the eye and there were many people around trying to help. They were the only ones who refused to come near us once I started yelling and were just downright rude. Honestly, the building is beautiful but poorly kept and it's WAY too much stress to deal with on your wedding day. You shouldn't have to worry about staff members stealing YOUR money. That is honestly absolute crap. If there was actually someone who would take a complaint seriously on that island I would make one. But I guess the next best thing is to make sure that every person even considering this venue, knows what they are getting into and to run and find somewhere else to go. read more

I am a wedding coordinator and I recently did a large wedding at the Belle Isle Casino. This is a HORRIBLE venue to have such a memorable event. They breached the contract in numerous ways. We arrived at the time on our contract to get into the facility to decorate and setup and their was no staff in sight. I had to flag down one of the workers on the island to get into the building which ended up being 30 minutes later. The bathrooms were not clean or stocked, the tables and chairs were not setup as agreed on the contract, the air conditioning did not work and this event was held in the summer with hot temperatures, the elevator was extremely slow which was inconvenient for setup and senior guest, they didn't provide trash cans or bags so the caterer had to leave the event to go buy some, they allowed people to view and tour the facility during our paid rental time while we were setting up which we had to have them removed, and nobody was available during the event to rectify anything. These are just a few of the many incidents we inquired at this venue. I do not recommend this facility to anyone. Apparently they only provide you with tables and chairs nothing else and the customer service is horrible. The people in the office are nasty as if they don't want to work. I will never do business with them again. Book at your own risk! read more

Although the facility is very beautiful it is a very difficult place to hold a wedding. My sister recently was married there and ran into all sorts of issues. For one, the staff was unfriendly and not very helpful. The catering company came to set up the day of the wedding and nobody was available to let them in when they arrived, they had to contact someone to come and let them in. They also charge a fee for your vendors to come early to set up. Next,one of ovens that the casino provided was broken and they said nothing about it to the catering company. They were also very difficult to get ahold of during the planning of the wedding and did not seemed concerned about helping to make sure your event went smoothly, just seemed like it was an inconvenience for them. Also our florist hung some paper lanterns for the wedding that belonged to the bride, at least $100 worth. We could not take them down the evening of the wedding because we did not have a ladder. Belle Isle employees threw them away the next day without even giving us an opportunity to pick them up. Also,they pitched (or maybe took) our cupcake stand, which needed to returned to the bakery without warning us, so that was another $100 loss. They did not apologize and were very defensive and rude about it. I warn any bride considering this venue that until they get their act together and hire someone who cares, look elsewhere!
