For my colonoscopy, this facility was chosen by my doctor. The building's exterior was well manicured and there was ample parking. The interior was spotlessly clean. The waiting room had cushy chairs and even had a couple of sofas. A few days ahead of time, the Belleair Surgical Center staff call you to set your time to come in. They answer questions and acquire any additional information that they may need. If you complete the online pre-surgical history section of their web site, it will only take a few minutes to check in on the day. I did do that and my registration only took about 5 minutes. I have had this procedure before but this time everything ran on schedule. The pre-op prep went well as did the procedure itself. After they unplug your IV, there is a relaxing waiting room where you sit to speak with your doctor. Next time I go, I would rather speak with my physician in private rather than in front of strangers. I will request a private room for my physician's consultation. All of the medical staff were professional and friendly. I have no reservations in having another procedure there. If you're over 50, get a colonoscopy, stat! read more

Center appears clean and pre op care was good. Surgery went as planned and surgeon followed up promptly with a phone call. Staff was generally pleasant, however post op care was rushed and patient was hurried out while still vomiting - told it was all in their head. As patient care giver I tried calling center twice to leave message with nurse- we desperately needed anti nausea meds. Patient continued vomiting and I was unable to contact anyone at center to help. Would not recommend this facility for any medical procedure. read more

I have been having a really difficult time since July 2020 when I fell on my face, fracturing my nose. Since 'the fall', I have had 4 surgeries on my nose and in doing so, I have encountered some of the best medical people out there who really define the word 'caring'. I wrote a review on Bardmoor Surgery Center in Largo where I had one of my surgeries done but this review is concerning Belleair Surgery Center. It seems in addition to infrastructure damage in my nose, a biopsy revealed a basal cell carcinoma which my doctor said had to be removed. OK. It appeared to resemble a simple indentation one gets from wearing glasses so I was told surgery would take one hour and a few cuts would enable skin to cover the damaged site. Checking into the surgery center was so simple and straightforward. First off, it's an absolutely lovely lobby with tall ceilings and comfortably appointed with nice furniture. Everyone wore masks and social distance, as expected and the entire process went smoothly. Patty came out, introduced herself to me and said she would be my nurse for the preparation for surgery. Not real talkative but one of the fastest check ins I have ever had. When it was time to insert the IV needle, I warned her of how difficult it was to find a vein but I didn't know I was talking to the 'Queen of Phlebotomy'! Wow!!! One stick and I never felt it!!!!!! Usually everyone is in tears trying to get the needle settled firmly in place. Every single employee at that facility was unbelievably kind, professional and concerned about my comfort. The surgery itself morphed into more than anyone thought, but the staff was so gentle and concerned that I was not in pain and reassured me that everything would turn out fine as my doctor was one of the best! I needed that coddling, trust me! The usual follow up call was more than to reaffirm that I survived and the gentleman was concerned that I was handling the pain and taking medications on time. I honestly felt like we had known each other for a long time and our conversation lasted a good 20 minutes. See, that's fantastic medical attention and not just treating me like a number. The point is, after a month of having a flap that will cover the area of concern, I am returning to Belleair for hopefully my 5th and final surgery. On the other hand, I almost look forward to seeing the fantastic staff and rest comfortably, knowing I am in totally competent hands of people who are true professionals and treat the patient like she/he is the only one they are attending to!!!! Dr. Gordon was recommended By My Primary Care MD & Positive word-of-mouth Ratings RE: Patients. (NOTE): Our 'Research' shows Dr. G' has a Great Reputation Overall & more Patients must take Time to Post their Reviews, so more Patients will know (!) Office Visit (1st; 3 Wks. before Op'), came w/ lots of Medical Questions(AOK);Very Friendly, Professional Office & Support Staff conducted 1st part of Exam; Dr. Gordon was Very warm, Genuinely Friendly & Compassionate during Exam. Dr. G' did not 'rush' My Exam, & was very clear in answering questions/concerns;all basically put My'Pre-Op' fears' to rest! Day of ('Outpatient') Surgery, We arrived @ 12N & Signed a few more Doc's (usual); I was soon taken into Pre-Op Area for Surgery Prep; Support Staff was upbeat, friendly, efficient, reassuring & treated Me almost like 'Family'. Dr. Gordon came to visit Me Pre-Op to address any 'concerns' & provide Me All reassurances. Sedative kicked in @1:40; next thing I knew it was about 3:15P & They told Me that My Op' was a Success, No issues; they helped Me get dressed; I was Discharged @3:30 & felt just fine ! Dr. G' took extra Care,Cosmetically hiding Incisions inside Naval Area; My Wife drove,as req'd, Post-Op. After Care was equally Excellent: including Home- Care Nurse Visits from 'Encompass Health' to then actively Monitor My Healing, Pain, & Vitals. Nurses were All Very Friendly, Professional, Skilled; & All seemed Genuinely Interested in My Recovery. 2+ wks. since Surgery: Overall,virtually Pain-Free ! I'm AOK,Thanks to GOD, Dr. Gordon & All above Health CarePro's for overall pleasant Scenario&(+)Results! I paid my deductible then they gave it back then they wanted it back I made partial payment and was sent to collections without notice. My spouse had what's considered a major surgery at this surgery center, which went well until my spouse was revived from anesthesia. Below is a brief detail of what occurred. Except I removed part of the ending since the space is needed. Merely look to vitals review site for full version. May 2016: My spouse immediately experienced such severe pain once revived that my spouse started screaming as soon as was able to. (This went on for roughly an hour-screaming..from pain.) After the screams subsided, I was brought into recovery and not told about what had occurred, only that my spouse was very "animated" once revived. I asked the nurse if my spouse was coherent enough to speak, and she said yes, so I asked my spouse what really happened, and the nurse chimed in with a more accurate account. I then asked why my spouse's vitals were 180/100+, pulse 120+, and she said my spouse had been that way since waking up, except my spouse's face was no longer blood red like it was before. I pressed further asking why my spouse was being allowed to stay in such a bad state, and the nurse told me they couldn't give anything more for pain, that my spouse's level of Post Op pain was not at all normal, and citing my spouse's sleep apnea as a concern. This prompted me to ask if they factored in my spouse's current pain meds as giving a tolerance, to which the nurse said- she wasn't sure-that I may be right. I told the nurse that we brought one of my spouse's Fentanyl patches, asking if it should put on right then since the pain was not being controlled. The nurse told me that wasn't necessary, because they had given my spouse 8mg of Fentanyl. I didn't tell the nurse I knew 8mg of Fentanyl would be a fatal dose- it was truly a nonissue to me in that moment because had my spouse been given 8mg of Fentanyl, I would have been greeted by my spouse's corpse, and things would have unfolded quite differently. This does, however, tie into another oversight made by the same nurse at the point of discharge, which I will touch on at the end. Shortly after that exchange, the anesthesiologist came in, Alain Ruiz Zaita (ME103290), who was quite nasty to both my spouse and myself. Out the gate, without even uttering a word to Ruiz, (or him identifying himself to me) he said to my spouse- it's completely unrealistic for you to expect to be pain free. Ruiz almost immediately realized he had just crossed a line, and he quickly tried to backtrack, saying he wasn't accusing my spouse of that. But by that point, nothing he could have spat back could have countered his remarks, his tone, his behavior. I told Ruiz that was not at all expected or asked, by either of us, with me asking the recovering patient, rhetorically---did you ask or expect to be "pain free" (obviously not). I immediately hit Ruiz with how completely foolish and nonsensical it was of him to say that. Ruiz went silent. I asked Ruiz why I wasn't notified by anyone that my spouse was in distress. He didn't have a good answer. I next pointed out my spouse's high blood pressure and pulse, and Ruiz said it's a sign of the pain. I then asked Ruiz if he factored in my spouse's current pain medicines as a possible cause for why wasn't responding well to whatever they were giving, and Ruiz sent back a glazed over.. nobody's home stare. At that point it was clear Ruiz likely overlooked, or forgot, the pain medicine my spouse has been taking for years. Or didn't care. I wrapped up by asking Ruiz- if my spouse didn't improve before discharge, would they transfer to a hospital. He said no. I said, so I'll have to take my spouse to hospital if doesn't improve- no problem. After nearly an hour (actually two hours considering I wasn't brought back until about an hour after my spouse was revived) of watching this back and forth of the nurse trying to get hold on the pain and dangerously high vitals ---with pain meds followed by slightly dropping vitals followed by spiking vitals followed by more pain meds, repeat, repeat-- my spouse's BP let up enough and was cleared for discharge by Ruiz. Or as Ruiz put it, "Give .. half a milligram of Dilauda and then that's it," in response to the nurse telling Ruiz that my spouse's vitals and pain were going back up. (Just not as high as 180/100+.) Shortly before discharge, the surgeon came in to give surgical feedback and he also addressed my concern. The surgeon said my spouse was likely in so much pain due to a tolerance to pain medicine; that it's gonna take more to get the job done. (What I suggested earlier to first the nurse and then to Ruiz) my spouse has been in severe and constant pain, and the ER is our next step, as recommended by my spouse's care team. (They also think whatever was given during surgery might have had little to no impact, citing that some people do not respond, or receive any pain relief, from drugs used during surgery, i.e., everyone responds differently to medication.) ..... Something the anesthesiologist should have thought of. read more
