Wonderful and quaint nursery located in Pasadena. The quality and price of all the plants were amazing along with the friendly and knowledgeable staff. While checking out the cashier was giving fantastic advice about growing plants and even helped us pack away our plants into our car. We were looking for California native and drought resistant foliage for our backyard and Bellefontaine had the best selection. Stop by and support a local small business. You won't be disappointed!!

Plenty of parking and cute little entry

Absolutely adorable and most importantly the staff are smart and reliable. No upsells. Nothing sketchy. Just honest salt of the earth gardeners. SKIP HOME DEPOT. Come here and get a green thumb on your side.

I'm pretty local to this nursery and have driven past it hundreds of times. I have been looking for air purifying plants for inside my house for about a year now and finally had a day off to actually visit. While Bellefontaine Nursery is not as large as some other nurseries I have visited (San Gabriel Nursery, to be exact) the customer service I received was top notch. Don't be too shy to ask questions. They really do have the answers to gardening questions you might have. They have a good selection of indoor plants, as well as pottery and gardening supplies. They have a large selection of rose bushes and succulents. I left with four plants and two pots but I know that I will be back again for more items.

Love my new plant! Thank you so much bellefontaine nursery- I will take good care of it!

My own creation that they put together for me!

Walked into this cute gem. Service was great and I got what needed! Business has been in family for over 75 years. Has its own parking lot and decent selection of plants. I ended up making my own succulent garden as a graduation gift.

Selection and plant quality is pretty bad. So is the customer service, they only seem to engage with regular customers.

Ask the Community - Bellefontaine Nursery

Hello do you sell Pilea pepperomiodes?

I saw some today 9/25/2021....I was there this morning and almost got one. They only had 5 or 6 next to the checkout.

Do they sell chili plants here, specifically Thai chili's (birds eye chili)?

    Do they sell eucalyptus?

Thank you for your inquiry. At this time, we do not have Eucalyptus. They will be available in the Spring. We will carry 'Silver Dollar' and 'Moon Lagoon'. Happy Gardening from the Bellefontaine Nursery Team.

Just getting into practicing bonsai, so please forgive the sloppy wiring. I'll redo these after a little break. My first attempt at doing bonsai and it's a shohin, I suppose. Oh and I repotted it in a slightly larger pot since I was stuffing it into this tiny 4" blue one and the tilt required a rock under one side. I also didn't want to take off too much rooting to fit the pot and kill the plant. Hope she lives!

The garden center is immaculately maintained & inventory is plentiful. I was looking to find a professional to recommend a liner for my planter to prevent corrosion, so I may reuse it for the next season for other plantings. Audel suggested a liner that prevents weeds from proliferating as well. It turns out Hubby has a roll in the back of our truck. Bought fertilizer that he recommended & lantana as a draw for pollinators. I googled it & it states I plant it alongside my basil, tomato & marigolds. Parking is dedicated & free. Highly recommend this nursery. Staff are super helpful & cordial. Price-wise, may be equal to home dept or more but the service is topnotch comparably.

There are several major north-south roads in this area, and Rosemead Boulevard is one of them. San Gabriel Boulevard is another. The road is wide and easy to drive. The nursery is right across the street from Com Tam Kieu Restaurant, one of the better Vietnamese broken rice restaurants in Southern California. On the way there, I passed a construction site, probably a new apartment building. It strongly gave me the impression of an EB-5 green card project, the kind of real estate development marketed less as a normal apartment building and more as an immigration investment package for Chinese buyers. In the middle of the SGV, that feeling was hard to miss. After that came the nursery. I drove from north to south, made a left turn onto a smaller street, and parked outside. The entrance is tiny. You walk through it and immediately reach the counter, where there was even a line. After that, you pass into an indoor room stocked with fertilizers, plant stakes, soil, mulch, and other gardening supplies. Beyond that is the back garden, which is much larger than expected and quite elegant. The plants are clearly well cared for, and the stone sculptures give the place a strong hint of Chinese culture. Along the edge of the main building, there are stacks of Buddha heads, seated Buddhas, and other stone figures, mostly in Chinese Buddhist or imagined Buddhist styles, though not necessarily following any strict traditional standard. There are Chinese signs everywhere, which makes sense for a nursery in the middle of the SGV. Many of the plants have bilingual names. The prices are not cheap, but they are fair. The orchids are much more expensive than what you would find at Trader Joe's or Costco, but they are also more beautiful and much stronger, so I would not call them overpriced. The plants use different colored tags, similar to what you see in many American discount stores. Some are very cost-effective. It is definitely worth stopping by, and even more worth it if you happen to find some good discounted plants. The cashier was a little rude, but as a Chinese person, I found it completely acceptable. I have seen much worse. Even though she was in a rush, the service was not bad. She even gave me an extra bag so the soil would not spill in my car. Overall, this is a good nursery and I would recommend it. It is even better if you understand Chinese culture, because many of the details will make more sense.

We hired them for a full backyard Reno with full wall of ficus trees, full DG backyard with gravel edges, and a wood fence. Everything was going smoothly with scheduling and communication. When the actual work got started, I noticed the DG was not high-quality. It contained a lot of large rocks. Also, they were not digging out enough dirt before laying the DG. I had to bring that up to the foreman and they did dig up some more dirt before laying the DG. When the work was done, a foreman did a quick walk-through with me and I thought everything looked good. We were told not to walk on the wet DG for a day or two. So two days later when I did a better inspection, I started to notice a lot of shotty work. Specifically with the bender board dividing the gravel and I noticed that they used really small nails for the wooden fence. They did come back a month later to fix the DG because there were areas that were "bouncy", as if not enough DG was laid down. They had to dig up big rocks that were preventing the DG from compacting and they laid more DG on some areas. They also tried to fix some bender board problems, but they did a really horrible job. Three months later, some wood planks on our wood fence start curving and popping up. I called the company because our DG and our fence are under a year warranty. Jake asked me to email him with photos and he said he would call back to schedule a day for repair. Since then I have not heard back from them; they have completely ghosted me. I waited a month then I started calling and no one will pick up the phone. I've left messages and I sent text messages to project manager, Amanda, who was great at communication at first, but now has completely ghosted me as well. Meanwhile, we're still paying monthly for this backyard that is falling apart way too quickly. I'm going to just hire someone to fix the fence before it damages further. I would not recommend them again. Completely overpriced for what you get.
