No mask or gloves during Covid phase two. Shop owner Promised resole by next day, pick up at eleven. I pay money. 3 days in a row his shop remains closed and he doesn't respond to phone requests. 4 th day, he shows up and says "I'm really busy" "it's not done can you comeback?" No customers in the shop,so I tell him I already gave you my money, I will wait. He replies "F... U". Same treatment 10 years ago when my favorite bellingham shoe repair shop was closed. I will never use him again nor do I recommend him for anyone else- he doesn't keep his promises and turns negotiations into power trips. What a sad human being. read more

Brought in a pair of Arriat tall riding boots in need of a replacement zipper. I also requested a cleaning and leather restoration for them. When I came back to pick them up, the guy had left and had closed his store before 3pm. (His stated store hours are advertised in the window.) I tried a second time, (After 2 weeks) and he was there! The only service he had preformed on my boots, was replace the zipper! That was it!! No cleaning nor any thing else was done to my boots!! I paid him 50$ for one boot zipper!! I live in Everett, and there was no way I was going to come back for a second time! (Not counting the first time I initially had dropped my boots off) Horrible service all the way around!! read more

If I could give no stars, or a negative number it would be done. I prepaid for a purse to be cleaned and restored. I did not want a new lining, just a cleaning. They tore out the old lining and roughly stitched in a lesser quality lining. The purse still needs to be cleaned. It also took a week longer than the original quote. read more

UNORGANIZED is an understatement!! I'm new to Bellingham & this was my first negative experience in dealing with a local business. I didn't want to give a bad review because I wish to contribute to independent businesses succeeding. I also respect an individual who tries to make a go of it in small business. I'll share my experience & you can decide for yourself if you want to trust this guy with your shoes. I dropped off a nice pair of boots for a sole replacement. Asked if they could be ready in a week or so & Alex, the owner, told me, "No problem, I can have them ready on Monday for you." I paid $20 deposit on an estimated $35 job, took my ticket & left. I came by the shop late afternoon that following Monday. Not only were my boots not ready but they were NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! It didn't matter that I had my ticket. The owner started pulling random boots out of piles & various trash bags (I guess what he uses for storage), asking, "Are these yours? How about these?" I could not believe it. After 10 minutes, he still could not find my boots. At this point, I began to fear that maybe someone else with a size 9 was walking around with my beautiful boots on. "How could this happen?!" I asked. The owner did not even have the good manners to attempt an explanation, apologize or even act the least bit embarrassed at not being able to locate my boots. I told him that I wasn't leaving until he found them. In another 10 minutes, he finally dug them out of the bottom of one of the unmarked garbage bags (no ticket, name or number on them) & just said, "they're not ready, I'll have them done Wednesday." After an experience like this, I normally would have taken my stuff & demanded my deposit back. However, this was a week before the holidays & I was leaving town. I wanted to wear my boots & didn't have the time to start the process over somewhere else. I also know that Alex is just trying to make a living & perhaps he deserved the benefit of the doubt & suffered from lack of organizational skills at a busy time of year. I came back two days later, my boots were ready & on the shelf - yay! He still charged me the additional $15 (which, if I was handling his customer service, would have been waived). So now I finally have my boots back, complete with cheap new soles, permanent glue shining ON THE LEATHER toe & already a gap between sole & boot. Besides that, they must have been forced onto a shoe holder during repair because my perfectly fitting boots now slip right off my heel!! Will not be returning for a repair of the repair as I don't want this guy near my boots again! read more

Great shoe repair shop, mind the hours of operation, double check but the work is outstanding

The third time I visited the shoe repairman was for a pair of Keens that needed new soles. The shoes were not ready the day or time I had arranged with the shoe repairman. And then another time, I waited outside of the shop with other customers for around 20 minutes for the repairman to return. Plus the shop isn't always open the times and days stated on the door. The soles started peeling off a month and half after the repair (when I no longer had a receipt for the repair job) So I took the shoes back with the expectation that the repairman guaranteed his work and would fix what I thought was a problem due to his workmanship since I hadn't done anything special to the shoes to cause the soles to peel off. And I've never had soles peel off my shoes prior to this experience. The repairman said to come back in a half-hour. He didn't say that he was going to charge me. I came back in an hour and he hadn't even completed the work. I had to watch him do the job. Then he charged me $5.00 to repair what was his poor original workmanship. I'm going to the shoe repair shop in the mall next time. Facebook has me listed wrong. I'm not in San Francisco, CA. read more

I cannot speak to the quality of shoe repair. I am not a patron of this shop. I was at Black Drop enjoying a cup of coffee when my daughter's therapist called. I stepped out onto the sidewalk to have a conversation with the therapist. I was walking up and down the street chatting with her. Brainstorming ways to best support my 5 year old daughter that is struggling with multiple things right now. I was emotional, but calm. I was trying to soak everything in that she was saying. I would have much preferred to be in my home to have this conversation, but this is when she and I happened to be available. At one point, I took a seat in the chairs outside of Black Drop Coffee and was continuing the conversation. I was more than 30 feet from the entrance to Bellingham Shoe Repair when the gentleman working there came out to tell me to SHH. I was certain that was NOT what had just happened so I held the phone down for a moment to see what he said. He said, "This is my place of business and you are being loud and rude." I said, "I am on the street in a public place, what would you have be do?" He said, "Go sit down there." And pointed to the ground on the corner of the intersection. I ignored him and continued my conversation. Walking up and down Champion and up and down Grand. I was never closer to the shoe repair shop than 15 feet and not for longer than it takes to walk past the entrance. I was already feeling emotional while brainstorming ways to support my daughter. Then he goes inside and grabs his phone, comes back out and starts recording me. I am pretty sure he recorded 5 full minutes of conversation. All of this to say, I was OUTSIDE on a bench that seemed to belong to either the city OR the coffee shop where I had purchased coffee. If he wants peace and quiet, he should relocate his business. People are walking by and talking all day. Busses are passing by. Police sirens are going off. It is a busy area with talking and walking and loud noises. I was not the loudest things on the sidewalk that day. But I was the thing that seems to annoy him in that moment and he made sure to tell me about it and try to intimidate me off the bench/sidewalk. read more

This place is great! I had a pair of Allen Edmonds that needed some TLC. Nothing major (a dried piece of gum between top of sole and stitching where it meets the larger, some deep scuffs, minor scuffs, and needed new laces). I told the owner I wasnt in a hurry. He gave me a week estimate. One week to the day I returned. He remembered me and grabbed my shoes without my ticket. They look new! Beautiful classic Allen Edmonds. The total price was $12.00. Amazing service. Will definitely be bringing this guy more shoes! read more

I have lived in Bellingham for many years now and last week I took a much loved, well-worn pair of shoes into the shop and in just a few days my shoes were ready to be picked up. They look just like new and felt like a new pair of shoes too at a very reasonable cost. It is great to find old-world craftsmanship nowadays. Actually, I would give this place a minus! The young kid resoled my shoes but after the fact, I see there wasn't enough sole to repair, and the repair was very sloppy with shoe glue on the side fo the soles. It came apart shortly after the repair, the toe area of the sole was apart on both shoes. I took it back and the father fixed it, but it continued to come apart due to it wasn't done right or shouldn't have been done, and I was charged $45.00! They continue to come apart, one time it came apart the same day it was fixed. The owner/father said "I was walking wrong and hitting my toe. " He's an arrogant jerk and would never give him my business again. read more

Went there after work to have some wedges sewn where a seam had snapped. The guy was helpful and even glued the sole where part of it was coming off. I am deducting two stars, however, because I asked him how long it would take and he told me to come back in 30 minutes. So I did and they were still sitting in his pile while he sat on his phone. I literally waited thirty minutes for him to do nothing. I would maybe go to him again because the repair seems sound (time will tell), but I feel like I have to stay there and wait because I don't appreciate my time being wasted so he can sit around and play games on his phone. Especially when he didn't even apologize for wasting my time and the actual repair took him less than five minutes. read more

Absolutely horrendous! This man is a con artist. He ruined my favorite boots by sewing something on the inside and now I can't get them on! He's had them for over three months to "fix" his mistakes. When I called today to inquire, he hung up on me! I went to pick them and they still don't fit. Then he said they must not have fit in the first place and told me to take them and get out of his shop. He makes you pay upfront and won't give a refund. Steer clear of him! read more

Bringing my boots to be repaired here was one of the most frustrating and inconvenient experiences of my life. When I went in to pick up my boots on the date I was told they would be ready the repair hadn't even been started! He told me to come back in an hour, but when I returned the shop was closed..several hours before they were scheduled to close. When I went back the next day there was a sign on the door saying that they would return at 3:45, but it was after 4:00. I tried to go back about an hour later and the sign was still there, store empty. When I returned to pick up my boots the next day it took him several minutes to find my items before he located them. The repair looks fine, but the inconvenience was unbelievable. Not worth the trouble or the price. read more

BELLINGHAM SHOE REPAIR ON CHAMPION Horrible. To put soles on 3 pairs of dress shoes,one being stilettos, he haggled over price. Started at 60.00, decided 43.00 and said "better you pay me now" The clogs he scraped all the way around the wood heals or soles. I watched him do it. He was going to leave a gouged scraped heal without paint. I asked him to paint it so he rubbed them with paint that didn't match. I also saw him pull up the insole with the "grinding or buffing" machine and then had to glue it. He gave me all shoes un polished. When I complained as asked why he didn't fix the or polish he basically said I didn't pay him what he wanted so, I was stuck with the shoes the way he wanted to leave them. I told him he ruined a 100.00 pair of shoes and he response was "get out" All for this I paid 43.00... Gee this is why he demanded I pre pay. He planned this I'm sure of it. I will post this everywhere. Shoe repair on railroad in Bellingham is not always open but they came out looking PERFECT when he did them. Thief.
