I visited Bellus Academy in Poway for a facial with Tracie Kempen. From the moment I arrived the staff and Tracie were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The cleanliness and atmosphere of the spa went far beyond my expectations, especially for a school setting. Tracie explained each step of the facial as she went, and she consistently checked in to make sure I was comfortable, which made the experience feel even more relaxing and personalized. I've been here multiple times. I've actually recommended this place to a couple people as well. After today's experience, NEVER AGAIN. I totally understand these are students trying to learn and get real life experience and that's why I come here as to support them. With patience and understanding, the right frame of mind, and a good positive attitude. However, today was different. Chris, one of the "educators" got involved just as we were getting started. He was extremely negative and condescending to me and his staff. It was very unprofessional and very rude and an absolute horrible representation of this company and the initiative for these aspiring students. WOW, I can't believe what just happened as he escalated things so quickly and so unprofessionally. Clients beware of this. Future students do your due diligence. read more

I absolutely love the haircut Garrett (IG: @garrettsflows) gave me! I went for the haircut + blowout style ($18 + Venmo tip), which included a refreshing hair wash as well. Garrett gave me face-framing layers and a square cut in the back, and I couldn't be happier with the results. My appointment was at 6 PM and wrapped up around 9 PM. The space was professional, and they played great pop music during my visit. At first, I was a bit hesitant about getting my hair done at a beauty school, but now I can't recommend it enough! A professional instructor checked in on every step, which really put me at ease. Garrett, along with the other students, was super kind and welcoming. People, save your money and go to a community college. Paying more just to come to Bellus does not mean you will get a better education/experience than a community college. I've taken the Cosmo-barber route in 2017-2018. aside from books, I've gained no hands on experience as they do favor people here. I've received mostly hair cut clients, while others received hair color. You learn the most out in the real world. Cross-over to barber was a joke as I basically was self teaching. This means you could be learning a different chapter, while the barber students are learning the materials that you had already learned from the Cosmo side. Yes, the program is that unorganized. Save y'all's $$$ and go to a free community college! read more

I had a scheduled appointment but ended up waiting over an hour past my appointment time. When I went to talk to the front desk, I was told my name hadn't been written down, which was frustrating and felt careless. i'm sad to leave a negative review of this place, because i usually always a great experience here. i went in for a wella smooth filler treatment and a trim, and the treatment was taking a while and they were going to close soon for the night so another girl helped out with the treatment. after the treatment, they had to flat iron my hair to set in the treatment and i have naturally curly hair so it takes longer to straighten my hair so there were two girls helping out with that as well. once i was ready to go i made a mental note that i have to go back home and touch up my hair with a flat iron because the roots were left really curly, but it wasn't a huge deal. when i got home, i started to section my hair to straighten it, and noticed the treatment was left in my hair at the nape of my neck. [[HIGHLIGHT]]i then showered immediately which unfortunately just reversed the treatment i had just paid for, and i called the next day to explain what happened, they offered me a complimentary shampoo and style, but that was pointless to me and i had already shampooed and styled my hair at home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] i feel like i wasted my time and money on the treatment which is really disappointing. i would just advise anybody getting the treatment to make sure everything is good before leaving the salon! read more

I come to the Poway student salon multiple times to dye the hair or just for the facial. This is a school, so my expectation for sure is different than go to a professional salon or spa. However, the students are all very serious with good attitude. The environment is good and they use good products. The price is a deep discount compared to the business salon or spa. I came in today and had a haircut with Marisa. I was happy with my cut. She is pretty far along in school, so it was pretty fast compared wth my typical appointments. I will definetly be in to see her again before she graduates. My only negative comment to Bellus is that they are not open on the weekends and they take their last appointment quite early, so I won't be able to make it there again. The next phase of the Esti 101 program was senior clinic where I was lucky enough to have Miss Victoria as my educator. Her easy going, fun loving, and hands on knowledge in the field made this part of my journey awesome! She always had the best advice for ethical ways to perform services. There have been many times where I sat with her and have had pages of notes on where to apply for jobs, how to present myself, what to say, who to talk to. She taught me about different skincare products and modalities that the higher end spas would want me to have knowledge of. I learned sooooo much about what to expect in the real world from her! She is so knowledgeable and shared so much of what she knew with me that even went beyond esthetics. Her recommendations and passion for living a healthier life was so inspiring and I thank her so much for sharing it all with me. She is such a kind and generous person. I will truly miss her and learning from her. I will never forget our conversations and how much information I obtained from being in her class. The real life scenarios she taught and her ability to give us the tools we needed for success in the field was greatly appreciated. She always made me laugh and I will also miss her quirky jokes and comments. I loved being in Miss Victoria's class, she even helped me with my stress and anxiety when she saw me getting too overwhelmed- I will forever be grateful for her pushing me through a hard time when I almost gave up. Her encouragement and support got me threw a tough time and kept me going strong. The last part of my journey at Bellus was transferring to the 103 medi/lux program with Miss Maryrose and boy did I have a great time in there! Miss Maryrose is truly a diamond in the rough. She made learning sooooo much fun and nearly impossible to fail. From the second I stepped foot in to her class it was like we were in the actual field of esthetics and performing more advanced facials with more advanced modalities. Her way of teaching made everything fun and I looked forward to coming to her class every night. Time flew while I was in the 103 program because that's how much fun I was having. What I loved most was how important she made us all feel as individuals. She took her time to cater to our individual needs, concerns and lack of confidence. If there was something that we weren't confident in she would take the time to hold our hand through the service until we were ok to do it on our own. She wanted everyone to succeed and made it her duty to build confidence in us all. She is such an amazing educator and makes this course fly by. She shared so much about her experiences throughout her career and do's and dont's. Her knowledge was also insightful and made her recommendations and input that much more trustworthy. During theory days she would always correlate what we were learning to her real life experiences and it made the information stick that much more because of it. She just made everything fun and was such a respectable person. Although she was younger than me, I had a tremendous amount of respect for her and the way she treated everyone. Even in difficult and challenging moments, she handled every situation with grace and humility. I see such great things for her future as an educator at Bellus just because of who she is as a person. Someone who steps up to any challenge, takes the initiative to get tasks done even if she has to do it herself and someone who is a team player.
