I called like 4 times. So her appointment was 3:30 and we were able to get there a lil before. The hairdressers demeanor was ok. She asked to see the Groupon and kept asking how much is it for? I told her I don't remember. It showed what service I purchased. I do not think the dollar amount spent should not matter. I am so disappointed with my haircut! Melissa was very nice and the prices are very reasonable but my hair is a mess. I wanted it cut to my shoulder and it's cut to just below my ear. It's all different lengths, the bangs are different lengths and it's that bad I can't wear it down. It has really upset me because it's such a mess I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it now. If i get it fixed it's going to be cut more and I'll be left with nothing. I don't understand why hair stylists don't do what you ask them to do. I didn't want you to experiment on my hair, I didn't want you to keep cutting and shaping whatever way you wanted to. I simply wanted it cut to my shoulder and my bangs cut, that's it. She asked me all the details about the haircut I wanted and made sure we were on the same page before starting. She also shared some useful haircare tips. Went there with a Groupon to have a hair cut, just a simple hair cut. The lady there said it would cost me almost double what I paid because my hair is like 4 " below shoulder length.... For a HAIR CUT I asked what is the difference about length of the hair for hair cut? It's NOT processing, coloring , etc it shouldn't make a difference about length's hair for a hair cut, I was just going to cut a couple inches. They said it's extra because they use more SHAMPOO and CONDITIONER ... What the ???.... never heard of this one before. So wouldn't recommend this place , if they charge more than $15 for hair cut image processing, other stuff. read more

I bought a Groupon to use with Melissa and had a terrible experience. When I called to schedule she said that the Groupon is only good for shoulder length hair, however that is NOT stated anywhere on the Groupon. Please update your listing bc that is false advertising and waste everyone's time. Also, I told her a friend wanted to buy the same Groupon and she told me to have my friend NOT go through Groupon but that she would still honor the Groupon price. However, when she found out that there was a Groupon promotion, she declined the service bc she assumed that the Groupon discount would affect her share. I don't think she realize that any Groupon promotion/discount would not impact her pricing. Obviously she did not care to be educated and denied service just bc we had a Groupon promotion. Her false advertising, ignorant and unprofessional business are why I'm leaving this review because it made me angry and wasted my time with her and Groupon to get my refund! read more

Well I had talked to Melissa on Friday about making an appointment and I was going to use a Groupon for a haircut and color and deep conditioning and it was going to cost $64.50 and she told me not to use the Groupon because she would do the same deal for $64.50 that way she would get all of the money so I live about 35-40 minutes away I got there and I sat down and she proceeded to tell me because my hair was very thick and past my shoulders it was going to cost more money and I told her that on the Groupon it says nothing about if your hair is very thick or past your shoulders it would be an added expense and she said well it should have and I told her you didn't say anything about that yesterday when I talked to you on the phone so she said well I'll do it for $86 and I told her No and that I had just wasted my time and gas to come here so I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone read more

I got Japanese hair straightening done and they did a good job (haven't washed it yet so we will see). However, when straightening my hair they almost burnt my scalp several times, after getting home I realized they burnt me pretty bad up too in the front after I noticed that there is a section that has now been oozing clear liquid (naturally like any burn) and crusting onto the roots of my hair. I'm not sure if this will effect the area but there is no way to really clean it as it is a new wound and just re- crusts. I am interested to see how this all turns out after the first wash. Also, they were super sketchy about pricing with my hair too which made it kind of uncomfortable and a curve ball. read more

I originally came here for a haircut because my ends were dry and needed some TLC (Total Love and Care). I also attempted to buy a groupon but was told that to not buy it cause certain stylists would only honor the price but was told to print or capture the groupon site and give it to the lady that will be doing your hair (which is weird). So I printed it and handed it to my stylist and she did honor it the first time cause I was a new customer. Afterwards, during the haircut my stylist was telling me that the price of $35 was only good for first time customers which is fine. Then 5 minutes later she tells me that if I come back she will honor it again. Then another 10 mins later she says base on your hair I'll increase it to $45. Then another 10 mins rolls by and its back to $35. It went on and on, I got totally confused that I dont think I'll be back. It felt like I was riding a rollercoaster and my hair ended up looking like crap (which it did) by the time the ride ended. So, I advise you to not go here if you want your hair to be in top shape. I recently got my hair Japanese straightened with the ladies here. I've been doing these treatments for almost 4 yrs now and know what the results should look like. I'm really disappointed in the results, I asked just for touch ups at the roots and should have made sure that's the only part they did. Unfortunately they did all my hair and over processed all of it, and about 30 % is really fried. These ladies were really nice and I hate writing bad reviews, but as someone who uses this treatment often and only wants super skilled technicians at of fear of ruining people's hair (like mine) I would not recommend them for this particular service read more

9/6/19 First time going to this spot. Miriam was my salon technician. I went here for a Brazilian blowout, and trim and I was really happy with how she did my hair. I was bit thrown off with the entire Groupon purchase because I paid $105 for my Groupon and it was a value of $365. Apparently when I got there I was told that the Groupon is only valid for short length hair and that if you have longer hair which I do that it's an additional $80 and extra if you want a trim or hair cut. So if my Groupon was worth $365+80=$445 not including the $15 for my trim plus $15 for tip. Anyhow, I'm going to say your better of not purchasing Groupon and just paying her directly. I don't plan on going back only because I felt I was overcharged when at any other place the original price I pay for a Brazilian blowout is no more than $150. And the only reason that I'm giving it a 3 star is because of the whole overprice. read more

I have been coming to Upstairs Hair Salon going on two years (I first saw Miriam and my blowout lasted a super long time when she did it) and I have loved my hair and nails every single time. My friend's hair stylist charges three times the price than this salon charges and I am always super happy with how my hair turns out. I have tried other services such as hair style, make-up and nails. I love it. If you have a special event, they will meet you at earlier (or later) hours by appointment. I called around so many places to get an A-Line haircut and color added to my hair. Jenny made me a 3:15 appt for the following day for a cut and color and she said it would take around 4 hours. I have to say that I got one of the best A-line haircuts I have ever gotten from Jenny. She did a great job. The cut and length were perfect. However, she showed up to the appointment about 25 minutes late and acted like it wasn't a big deal and that was hurtful as a customer. I had a very long week at work and I make sure to be on time for my appointments because I know that other people's time are valuable. She was joking with me that she was dress shopping instead of being there on time to my appointment. I laughed because, what else am I going to do? Jenny also proceeded to drop her brushes on the floor several times which I read from other reviews. Once my cut was done Jenny said I would have to come back for color. She had a client right after me at 5:15. She said it was going to take 5 hours. Again, I scheduled color with her. Very upset by this experience.
