Belmont Lake was a reclaimed gilded age mansion turned into a state park. Originally owned by August Belmont whom was a top horse breeder on Long Island during the 19th century. Since acquired by there state it has become part of the Head quarters of the state park offices as well as the park police. I enjoy coming to this park as the center piece is a very charming lake to walk around and get your steps in. Also within the park you will find nice walking trails as well as trails that are just beyond the park under the double overpass of the Southern State Parkway. This happens to be one of the original stops on the New York State parkway system which tends to include many parks and leisure sites. I tend to come here as a default state park cause this or Bethpage are within a ten minute drive of my home. Get that Empire pass, I promise you will see some great things on your Journey.

From Queens, the drive was about 40 minutes to an hour. There are two lanes to pay for parking at the toll booth. They do accept cash and credit card. Wow, parking was only $8. The restrooms are in the building next to the parking lot. The weather was gorgeous in the high 80s today. My friend John and I visited Belmont Lake State Park for the first time. The view of the lake was breathtaking. We spotted ducks and geese along our walking trails. You can rent pedal boats, rowboats, and kayaks for $20 per two hours. Next time, we want to rent pedal boats!

The Princess of Queens Anna H reminded me I never wrote a review for this cool State Park down the road from my house. That's just it. Sometimes we take for granted the great places we have available to us so close. They have pedal boats and trails that my Dad uses frequently with his pup tribe. They also have FREE EV Charging Stations for those that may be in need of charging while roaming about. I really enjoyed the dedicated benches surrounding the lake. The quotes are fun to read. Also the signs giving you info on the animals in the area. Pretty cool stuff. Informative & fun. Come through sometime. 6-9-2022

Not the most beautiful park i have visited in Long Island but good enough. Good area to take a walk in nature, plus there's a pond where you can rent a pedal boat or kayak.

Beautiful park. We love the peddle boats and at $20 for 2 hours is a great bargain. Nice paths for walking and biking. Plenty of BBQ'ers. Only thing that was a negative was this one guy who thought he owned the park. We placed our cooler on a table and I went back to the car to get something to cover the table. That's when some guy told my wife that table is reserved, guess what - tables are first come first served. Funny how he waited until I left before he said something. Unfortunately, by the time I got back - my wife and Mr. Karen had moved. Other than that, great day.

Happy Friday! adding a review for the park! I went there last weekend with some friends, it's a good place to walk around and also a great picture spot! You can enjoy the views of the lake or walk the full loop around the area. I think it took us about 40 minutes to an hour walking and stopping along the way, taking pictures and enjoying the views. They have playgrounds for kids and some barbeque areas, picnic tables are also available. Some people go there for fishing too! I saw this guy catching a pretty big one on the way when we were walking by. It's a good option if you're looking for a place to go and to hang out with friends, really pretty fall colors too right now! Hope everyone enjoys the weekend! Happy early Halloween!

There's nothin' like a good park on a sunny day to make ya feel alive. A couple weeks back, as part of a semi-social-distanced gathering with my lady and a couple of friends, we ventured to a park on a sunny day to, well, make us feel alive, especially after not doing much traveling around over the past bunch of months. Belmont Lake State Park was close to our amigos and so we met up there with relatively impressed feelings. You see, it was me and the female's first experience at BLSP and so we didn't exactly know how it was going to look or be (besides a lake, of course). Despite all of the 6-feet apart signage scattered about and continued reminders of social distancing, there were still tons of people present on this semi-windy yet bright Sunday. Despite the surprising crowds, Belmont Lake is massive in size. There are plenty of places to sit (picnic tables) as well as lots of grassy areas where a picnic blanket would suffice. Luckily, we snagged a table in the middle of one of these spots and set up there for a bit. Food wasn't entirely on the forefront of this trip, but it was nice to know that right next to our table was one of those public park grills. They were scattered about in this part of the park so cooking up some grub could definitely be on the agenda for the future. Honestly, we stayed in this spot until our friends departed for home, but once they did, the GF and I still had a little time before we needed to leave and so we went for a walk. Man oh man. The views of that lake are often breathtaking. It almost feels like you're not on Long Island and instead in some upper northern area in the woods. Some swans and ducks could be seen and the trail we walked on for a bit gave way to more picturesque views of nature. Having said all that, I'd lean more towards five stars here, though I feel as though we only carved out a small piece of this place from our own lack of time and more importantly due to some aspects still being shut down for COVID. No paddle boats on the lake, stacked tables in spots, and the bathroom setup/process (especially for the women as per my girlfriend) left something to be desired. A return trip will have to occur as things begin to open up and return to a (somewhat) normal setup. Overall, Belmont Lake State Park is truly beautiful in many aspects. It's large and filled with opportunities to picnic, grill, and enjoy the outdoors when the outdoors needs to be enjoyed. I'd even be willing to pay the $8 next time to get back in (fees are still waved), though hopefully when I do, I can get even more out of this gorgeous place.

Amazing find for all locals and LI visitors! This park is free during the winter and a small fee during the summer months. It is dog-friendly with a fenced dog run and trails with free doggy-bag stations. It has a playground for the kids. They have picnic areas and workstations throughout the property. They have these cool stations to work on your bikes if it has a broken chain/etc, FREE electric car charging, and free entry onto lake if you bring your own kayak/canoe. The signs say you can launch from anywhere as long as you don't swim which is nice to see they trust their guests and allow everyone to enjoy the lake! I highly recommend enjoying this park with your dog/family. They have litter stations that encourage all guests to pick up after each other. Can't say enough good things about this spot!

We have been coming here for decades now. It is one of the better dog friendly parks on the island, although the dogs are not welcome during the summer season on weekends, the last we heard. We visit during all four seasons, but mid fall is when this is in its glory. The walk around the lake seems to be about a mile, and it is usually filled with good natured walkers. Only exception is that some bikers treat this as some sort of grand prix course to barrel through as fast as they can. There are signs warning them not to do that, but I guess they went by too fast to read them. The park includes clean restrooms, a very well maintained playground, and exercise options along they way. There is plenty of parking. During the season they collect a state park parking fee, and that extends to weekends from April through October.

In need of some quietude, fresh air, the sight of autumnal leaves & a good, long-ish walk, I came here & it totally met my needs. Packed dirt & asphalt trails ring the lake with occasional workout stations & with a few additional paths that wind around the park. Path is well maintained, there is a good playground & fields & there is a north-south path that leads from Belmont Lake to Southards Pond, which is about 2 miles south on which I saw a number of bikers, so I think I will give it a try next time on my bike. This is the "off season", so there was no parking fee (normally $8). There is ample parking. lots of benches, picnic tables & pedal boats and fairly clean rest rooms.

Beautiful day and decided to walk and easy trail with my 10 year old and puppy Lily. Needless to say it was very much needed. It was nice to see other humans and pups out and about enjoying the weather and trail. We stopped to see some ducks and try to spot out different plants on the route. I have nothing and to say about this park. You can exercise along the way, stop for a seat, stop for a picnic, watch a ball game, there was poop bags (I brought my own) and frequent trash cans along the way.

Great playground areas...the area around the lake is very dangerous as it has no fencing to prevent children from falling.
