The hotel is also home to an excellent restaurant that serves a fantastic weekend brunch along with a refined upscale dinner menu, making it worth visiting even if you're not staying overnight. We booked a suite, and it was incredibly spacious, with a full kitchen, separate living room, bedroom, dressing area, and a large bathroom. Although the rooms looked a little dated in the photos, they were much nicer in person. Everything was clean and comfortable, the bed was great, and the room temperature stayed perfect throughout our stay. If you enjoy historic hotels, this one is definitely worth experiencing. Knowing that many U.S. presidents and celebrities have stayed here adds to its unique charm and makes the stay feel even more special

Absolutely incredible hotel with the loveliest staff both at the reception and at the concierge!…read moreThe rooms were some of the largest and most charming I had ever experienced. Everything was clean and cozy. I definitely hope to stay here again on my next trip to Richmond. Taking a star away because turning on the lights was as complicated as launching a rocket ship and I'm pretty sure I accidentally asked for Service to come in just because I could not for the life of me figure it out, so once they were on, I stopped messing with anything. Also, there was a very large bug in the bathroom sink at 11PM. I managed to pour water on it and closed all the drains but it freaked me out a lot!

I used to live in the Fan/Museum District, and I love this place because it is in such a good location, right next to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (which I highly recommend as well!), as well as walking distance to shops and restaurants in Carytown, the Fan, etc. We stayed in the carriage house the first time and the house itself the second time. Both were very cozy, with lots of amenities, such as bathrobes, bottled water, and coffee pot/tea in the room. The breakfast in the morning is phenomenal. It is made to order, with eggs, bacon, various rolls, oatmeal, coffee, etc. and served in the house's dining room. The staff is absolutely lovely and so welcoming. Another added bonus is that they provide tickets for admission to the special exhibit at the VMFA, as well as passes to get a free drink in their cafeteria. Love, love, LOVE this place. Highly recommend!

For me, one of the best features is being greeted at check-in by a host (a lovely, gracious person), who then returns to make breakfast! In this day of self-serve lodgings, such as AirB&B, VRBO, etc, this type of service is an absolute treat.

Incredible start to the day. Apparently I purchased the concept of breakfast. No pool. No hot tub. They do have a rooftop bar, but the food and drinks are painfully average--nothing to get turnt about unless your idea of nightlife is two cocktails and checking your work email. The rooms don't have microwaves, and apparently utensils are considered a luxury amenity because you won't find those either. I stayed in the King Suite, and I will give credit where it's due: the bed was massive and ridiculously comfortable. The most confusing part was the TWO showers. Not two showerheads. Two separate showers. I'm not sure what demographic they were targeting with this architectural decision, but if your marriage has deteriorated to the point where you and your wife can't even shower in the same zip code, this suite was designed specifically for you. Overall, the bed carried this hotel harder than LeBron carried Cleveland.

We booked a room with a king size bed and we were pleasantly surprised to be given a suite. The room was huge. Two bathrooms, living room area with a large L shape couch, a king bed. Not sure if we booked this fancy of a room or if we got lucky and that's what was left. Regardless, great stay, and clean room. And the place looks really modern and nice. Would definitely stay here again.

It's within walking distance of Richmond's greatest museums as well as the popular Carytown neighborhood where we spent much of our visit. When we arrived, Sean and Polly weren't at home, but we were provided with an access code to get in to the guest rooms. We were absolutely floored when we walked in. The One only has two guest rooms, which makes it the perfect place for privacy. Our room, The Dream Suite, is located at the top of the stairs and is beautifully decorated in shades of deep red. My only very minor gripe is that the bathrooms are no located "en suite." Instead, they are directly outside the rooms. So while each bedroom does have its own bathroom, you do need to leave your room to get to it. Not a huge deal since there are only two guest rooms...but you can't traipse to the bathroom naked at 2am, either! The parlor is located across the hall from the guest rooms and is not only a comfortable lounge spot, but is also stocked full of snacks and beverages. This is also where continental breakfast is served in the morning. The spread is pretty standard- muffins, bagels, cereal, etc. It didn't particularly suit my fancy (way too carb-heavy), but it's the type of breakfast my boyfriend loves. Sean and Polly were fantastic hosts; very attentive and friendly. Honestly, they were the best B&B owners I have ever interacted with. You can tell that they truly love what they do. We can't wait to go back to Richmond to spend another night at The One. Thanks to Polly and Sean for a great stay!
