We decided to stay at the Moxy for one night on our wedding anniversary. Decent price, especially booking on the same day. A self-park garage is located next to the hotel. Paid about $21 for the night. It was a little tight and took some time to figure out how to walk out after hours. They also have street parking but be weary about the signs/hours. Lobby was bright and had a lot of things going on. There is a bar, convenience shop, games, and TV's right when you walk in. Check in was pretty quick and the staff are fun and friendly. You also get poker chips to redeem for a drink at the bar or a coffee drink as well. We were on the 4th floor of the hotel. Room was a good size and clean enough. Bathroom was a good size as well but it has that sliding door that you can't lock. Really the main complaint we had was the bed was not too comfortable but it was one night so not a huge deal. Overall not a bad experience. Seemed like we were in a mostly quiet area an it was a nice place for a short stay. read more

I thought this hotel was nicely decorated and had plenty of lounge spaces for guests to relax and enjoy. I even received a complimentary drink certificate/coupon from the bar upon arrival from checking in at the front desk. My Queen hotel room was nice, spacious, and cleaned very well. A lot of electrical outlets for technology. The only complaints I have is that I did have issues with my hotel room card giving me access to the elevator after multiple tries. Also, it's a pet friendly hotel but there is barely any grass for pets to use the restroom on site or nearby. read more

I've stayed at other Moxy properties, but I liked this one a bit better. They're all minimalistic, centrally located, and built around a snazzy bar at the entrance. This one had rooms that were big enough to stretch one's legs out in, at least. There is not much in the way of amenities, but I appreciated the water station at the end of the hall, and the bed and bathroom were pleasant enough. Street parking during the week is unlikely but there is a garage attached. Street parking on the weekend is fairly easy, and this location is in the center of the city where you can walk to the waterfront. The minifridge in the room was so tiny as to be insufficient for any leftover food. You could maybe fit like a canned beverage in there. I don't know why they even bothered. It didn't seem that cold inside either. The hotel was pet-friendly, which unfortunately resulted in some very loud barking nearby that I was so bad I considered speaking to management about it, but ultimately did not. Still, the downsides were small. If you want a kitchen or a work space, this is not a suite, but if you just want a room downtown, it delivers. read more

Stayed here back in January...it was a nice room but two things...the room was too hot couldn't control the temp so I had to change rooms...same thing in the other room...finally maintenance came and adjusted the problem with the temp...then the room became too cold smh...at that point I was like screw it Ill just deal with it...then there was no nightstands to the beds...no outlets next to the beds...had to plug my phone across the room...like who designed this...surely they know everyone has a phone that needs charging so why not have an outlet next to the bed...one more thing the refrigerator was smaller than a 13' tv...can't store any food in that but other than that the room was ok...it was clean...that's the good thing about it read more

I'd rate this place negative stars if I could. I stayed for 4 nights. The AC took nearly 48 hours to change the temp of the room at all. The shower didn't always have hot water, and the wifi was mediocre. The bathroom door was a barn door style thing that couldn't be latched or locked, and sometimes just started rolling open by itself. The whole place is trying to be all "we're not a regular hotel, we're a *cool* hotel" kind of vibe in really transparent, pathetic ways - oh! Cool! The front checkin desk is a the bar! So so here's the thing. This place is great for a weekend getaway or a short fun trip. It isn't built for business travel where you expect to work in your room in the off time. The place was clean, cool and quirky. The staff were all wonderful and constantly smiling. There are lots of spaces to hang out with friends or make new friends. The rooms are all setup in interesting ways with quirky design features. My only two issues were a mattress that was too soft and a shower door that wouldn't stay open. For parking there isn't valet - guests can park in the parking garage next to the hotel. You call this number to enter and when you exit you need to pay on your phone and then the gate will open. Hotel guest can only park on level 5-7! ( made my photos) $19 a night The lobby is loud and have karaoke at night ! There is a foosball table and also giant jenga to play! So definitely get ready to party it up if you want. I was also given a free drink ticket for my stay. Room -- well it's cute but nothing is comfortable . The cleanliness is probably my biggest complaint. Just not clean- pillows have smells and the comforter probably can't ever be washed. I mean the design of the room is great and very functional but that's about it. The lights - one you needed to pull out on top- took me forever to figure out how to turn off the light. The pillow is so flat and you don't have a bed frame back --- it's just the pillows as your back cushion. Anyhow - hallways are extremely dark !!! Maybe it's to just give it that ambiance ! But not my thing. It's definitely the cheapest you can find in downtown Richmond. One more street down --it's not the best neighborhood. read more

At this unique brand is really a great place.No hassle upon arrival. Very relaxed unique feel. It encourages you to look around the art and creative furniture. The front desk is at the bar! Two free drink tickets upon arrival with a selective menu to retrieve this great amenity gift. Rooms are cozy and have all the basics. I was a lil skeptical cause reviews vary. But I ultimately decided cause I had Bonvoy points and for 1 night, I figured how bad could it be. I booked online via the Bonvoy app with no issue and although I thought I'd be arriving later, my room was ready when I arrived in spite of it being earlier than I specified. The young lady at the front desk was very nice. And so too was the gentleman filling the cookie jar and he informed me the snacks were free. The decor is funky, real chill. Great if you're a gamer or like an 80s baby. They have great and colorful seating nooks with tvs, pool table, etc. I almost flipped out when I saw an etch a sketch, lite bright and a Playstation. They have lots of games to keep you occupied so the lobby is a nice hangout with self serve tea and a self serve snack bar with at cost goodies. The bar is chill and not sure if everyone gets it but I got a free Drink tix. Rooms are modest, no closet but it fits the bill for a short stay. I love the stash closets on each floor so if you need toiletries, towels, blankets, etc, all available. I had a street view. The room was clean decor was cute, smart tv. I guess the only con is that floors are wooden so if anything drops, its noisy. This is not a vacay or top of the line luxury hotel but definitely on brand and not bad. Wifi is reliable so I was able to work, bed was comfy so I slept good and bathroom was clean. Bartender was sweet when I returned and redeemed my tix. She checked on me multiple times. As long as your expectations are set appropriately, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Lobby had plenty of seating, cool vibe at the bar and check-in, and the rooms are modern and clean. My only ding, and it's a big one, is that this particular location seems to have a staffing problem. None of the staff was friendly (I had multiple interactions with front desk staff and bar staff and they all fell somewhere on the scale between "indifferent" and "rude") The coffee was empty in the lobby both mornings and it took 10-15 minutes to get a refill, not because they were brewing fresh coffee, but because the staff wasn't efficient and focused on their job. I would stay again just because the location and facilities were nice, but the staff really could use improvement. read more

The vibe was great. Check in was super easy and the staff were very welcoming. We got two free drink tickets for the bar which made up for having to pay for parking (which is why I scored a 4/5). It wasn't clear we had to pay to park, but parking was easy. The hotel itself was clean, having to card into the door prior to getting to a group of rooms made it seem much more secure. This location could be great. The rooms are small but cool and functional. The lobby area is a great place to socialize with friends. They claim a full bar but do not stock any bourbon and only have one type of red wine. The breakfast is decent, but the rest average at best. They ran out of coffee cups our first day there and ran out of regular coffee the next day. There was a female bartender that worked one night that was great. She was working the following morning as well. This leads me to believe they have staffing issues. The others that work there were adequate, but I don't know that hospitality is the right fit for them. I know the guys working parking are not employees, but they were great. All of them were super friendly and greeted us every time we walked in and out. The parking is over priced for Richmond at $40 a night, but they do a great job. If staying downtown, this location is good. You are close to the convention center, restaurants, and bars. Additionally, it is less than 20 mins from the airport. read more

This Hotel is really cool. The setup is definitely different from your traditional hotel, Buts it's funky and fun, Everyone here was amazing. The bartenders especially Paxton were really cool very knowledgeable of the area and gave us some awesome recommendations. Do not stay in Room 202!! This room is supposed to be ADA compliant and is the largest room in the hotel. However, there are several features that make this room inconvenient for able-bodied people, and an absolute MINEFIELD for anyone in a wheelchair. The shower has a seat and is accessible, but there is no design feature at all to keep the water from fully covering the bathroom floor. (The picture doesn't do it justice; water was pooling up to the door and behind the toilet.) There are thin gauzy curtains in the room's windows, and blinds behind those. But in order to close the blinds, my husband had to climb up into the windowsill and locate a button that caused the blinds to electronically shut. Who designed this space?!?! The front desk team was helpful and this was not their fault. There were other things, too. The tv remote was broken; not typically something I'd notice, but the tv was on when we entered the room, so we had to get a new remote to turn it OFF. There was no hand soap, and the front desk attendant at first sent me to a supply closet to get some, but no soap was there, so she had to grab some from an empty room. By the time I actually got to settle down and enjoy rest, I was tired. It's a fun hotel close to a lot of things, but I would trade fun for basic design features that work really well. It's like the Frontier Airlines of hotels, maybe? Don't want to point this toward the staff because they were really helpful. read more

Stayed here over night headed back to NYC from travel over the holidays. I was traveling with my wife and 2 young children. As a Marriott member, I already had checked in and had my mobile key. Just needed to show my ID at the front desk. The lady working the front was very welcoming. My kids loved the room (we got the two queens that faced each other which was really fun and different). Parking was super easy even though there are a few negative reviews (every hotel that has a garage charges to park, nothing new). Daily rate was actually very reasonable compared to other Marriott locations. Only negative I would have to say is the pillows are a little weak (comfortable bed though). Apparently, booking online directly with Marriott 2 weeks in advance means nothing at this hotel. We booked online well in advance, and also completed a mobile check in the morning of. We expected a text letting us know our room was ready, which we never received and when we arrived, our room was not available because they were "over booked". The front desk rebooked us a at neighboring hotel of lesser quality for nearly the same price and barley gave a half hearted apology. Very hipster vibe. Rooms are small, but efficient. Hallways have no natural light and the lighting fixtures are set to 'mood' instead of illumination. My first contact with Moxy staff was the front desk person telling me that there would be a $40 charge put on my credit card. This should have been stated as a "hold" (same difference, but does not freak out the customer). No remote control for the TV in the room, it took about 3 hours for the front desk to get one. The bed sheets were not changed from the previous person's stay as there were blood stains on the side of the bed that I was not sleeping on, and thus not discovered until the day I was leaving. While it was March, it was unseasonably warm during my stay (80-degree days). There was no way to get the AC on or even the fan to circulate the outside air, so it was hot and stuffy in the room. The bartender on Saturday night was not a multi-tasker. When a black couple was trying to get her attention, instead of acknowledging them and asking them to wait, she ignored them. They said "excuse me" three times and finally said "we see how it is" and walked off. I am not sure if it was a race issue or simply not able to handle multiple things at once. We booked a room with queen size bed. The bed felt smaller than a queen size. The room was tiny with minimal features. No closets, coffee machine or fridge. Once we opened the luggage, there was essentially no room to walk around the bed. There was a very small desk with no real chair. The room was clean but the common spaces were not. The lobby/bar area smelled really bad. The hallways were oddly dark. The front desk personnel seemed understaffed and some of the personnel seemed inexperienced and not fully trained, so despite being really kind, they were not able to answer our questions. No breakfast included. Parking was not included and it was 20$/day. Coffee was available only in the morning, after 7 am. In my opinion the experience was not bad but it was also not worth the money we paid. This is basically a short-term, "dorm-,like" hotel, with a very casual vibe and no amenities at all. Essentially the price only covers a clean bed and bathroom. We will probably not stay here again. read more

No place to sit and relax except for the beds since the one small desk/table was squished between a headboard and the wall. No coffee maker, microwave, or mini fridge. No towel bars in the bathroom. Not exactly what I expected from a Marriott property. The hotel has a very small garage, so be very careful if you have an SUV the size of a Suburban or Cadillac Escalade, you may find that it could be very hard to maneuver in and out of those extremely small parking spaces. In addition when first into the hotel lobby you discover that you are actually walking inside of a bar where you have to check in with the bartender to get your room keys, the lobby is decorated with contemporary furniture and artwork. When you get off the elevators, the hallways are very dark and gloomy. The colors on the walls are black and midnight blue. It is a very scary and gloomy, feeling walking down to your room door. Inside the rooms which are very small there is a bunkbed and 1 full size bed enough for four people but keep in mind the space is very tight there's no refrigerator or microwave inside of the room. The room is very nicely decorated with eccentric art on the walls, but it is not exactly suitable for family traveling. This hotel is geared towards people within the hard rock and role community or teenagers that are looking to travel, mingle, and into the nightlife. Also Very overpriced.
