What a gem the Belvedere Inn is. I would highly recommend a stay here. Shaun was a delightful innkeeper who went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. He served delicious cocktails and a cheese plate on the back patio to us as well as giving us recommendations in the area. The inn is an early 1900s mansion that has been converted into a hotel. There is a restaurant on property (Shaun is the chef) though we did not dine there for dinner. We stayed in the Canterbury Suite on the 2nd floor. It had a queen bed, fireplace and large soaker tub with double shower heads. The inn is only 10 minutes from Saugatuck and about 15 minutes to Holland. It is a quiet and quaint place to stay in a beautiful area of Michigan. read more

Staying at the Belvedere Inn for anniversary weekend, we kept our dinner in house at their restaurant and were thrilled. Personable service and a charming atmosphere added to the amazing food. The menu is prix fixe with your choice of 2-4 courses, but each course after the first two is just $5 more so we went all in. My wife got the scallops and said that it was the best meal she's had in years. My filet mignon with a Demi glacé was perfect. In both cases our different potato dishes added to our enjoyment. I got the faux gras for my first course (not a typo - faux as they use chicken livers) which had tremendous flavor. For dessert, we couldn't pick between the profiteroles and the warm tart tatin so we split them. Both were great but the tatin is an upside down French apple pie which was fantastic - served warm with vanilla gelato it was unexpectedly thin and crunchy with the crust. I can't recommend this meal highly enough. It would get six stars if possible. read more

Very nice experience at the Belvedere. Cocktail menu was pretty good. But I'd like to see a better selection of bourbon and tequila. Apps were very good, and the chateaubriand was delicious and cooked perfectly to order. The pace of the meal was great. Not too fast. Not too slow. Server was polite and professional. The dining rooms are beautifully decorated, and the outdoor space is a very nice place to grab a drink before being seated. It took us a couple years to finally fine at the Belvedere. We did not stay at the inn, we only had dinner here. And dinner was top notch! I can't say enough how wonderful every detail was. My mom and I went to explore the gardens in the back of the Inn, and they were breathtaking. While we were walking in the gardens, Jeffrey came to take our drink orders before dinner. He met us with our cocktails and enjoyed great conversation with a couple who were dining at the same seating. Then once 6pm came, we were invited inside and seated. The arugula salad with cherries and a mustard dressing was delicious. My mom had the caesar salad which she wasn't impressed with sadly. However, she felt that the scallop entree (which we both had) more than made up for the not so great salad she had. The freshly baked bread had a delicious crusty outside and perfect soft texture inside. For dessert I had the lemon cheesecake with the almond cookie crust. It was perfect, not overly sweet, just wonderfully palette satisfying. The cappuccino with the Irish cream flavoring and froth on top was a perfect ending. On Tuesday, 6-1-21, I had dinner in the Belvedere Inn restaurant. Initially, I was going to dine solo. I decided to invite a friend who lives nearby to join me. She wasn't able to join me at the precise sitting time (6:00 pm) and was able to join me around 7:10 pm. I spoke with Shaun, the chef, about my friend joining late. He was friendly, flexible, and negotiable. I had the beet, pear and gorgonzola carpaccio appetizer and several vodka tonics while waiting for my friend. Initially, an appetizer/first course wasn't calling out to me. Our server, John, recommended the beet/pear carpaccio appetizer, which was an amazing blend of subtle and sharp flavors. When my friend arrived, we shared a split of prosecco and each had the butternut squash and crabmeat bisque. The bisque was light, buttery and tasty and not rich/creamy like other bisques I've had. Very good. My friend and I decided to share the chateaubriand, a tenderloin of beef served with béarnaise sauce (a favorite of mine), scallop potatoes and vegetable. The beef was the perfect temperature and was delicious, especially when complimented with the béarnaise sauce. The scallop potatoes were slightly rich in a good way and baked to perfection being crunchy on the top and moist underneath. After dinner, my friend had a glass of port wine and I had an Irish coffee with whipped cream with the two desserts (profiteroles and warm apple tart) we shared. All very good and complementary. My friend's comments were "The food was excellent; the service was excellent; and the ambiance was excellent. Very well done." We highly recommend the Belvedere Inn restaurant. Our four-night stay at the Belvedere Inn was very enjoyable. * The breakfasts were very good (try the homemade granola with yogurt!) with juice, cereal, fruit, and fresh baked goods daily and a rotation of an egg dish and meat (bacon or ham or sausage). * Shaun accommodated our every request and made suggestions on places to see. Indeed, everyone we met was uniformly friendly and helpful. * We switched from the booked Somerset room to the Canterbury suite after the first night as while the room has a very spacious closet with hangers, there was no place to unpack clothes for a four-night stay. Shaun was able to move us as there was availability which may not always be possible so take this into account when selecting your accommodations. The suite has a smaller albeit adequate closet but the bed night stands are basically chest of (five) drawers with enough space to unpack, the sink is in the bathroom rather than in the room as is the case with the Somerset, and there is sufficient table space to put things. The Canterbury could use a step-stool to enter the shower/Jacuzzi tub as even I at 6 feet had to be careful getting in and out. * The rooms are well air conditioned perhaps too much so as my wife was chilled at times. * Leftovers can be put into the small refrigerator on the second-floor landing. When I asked Shaun where I could heat them up, he said to call him (his number is posted in the lobby if you do not see him around) and he would take care of it. The food was either microwaved or heated in the restaurant oven depending on the food and then plated and served in the Sun Room. * The huge "back yard" is a glorious well maintained formal garden with fountains and ponds. * Be aware: the wooden floors creak! read more

REVIEW FOR RESTAURANT - We didn't stay at the Inn, but did have a superb dinner here. We came a little early for our 6:00 seating and had cocktails out on the patio. Our server, John, was wonderful! For our first course I had the beet and pear carpaccio and it was delicious. My husband had the faux gras brulee and he said it was amazing! For our second courses we had the arugula salad and the butternut squash and crabmeat bisque which were also excellent. For the main course we had lobster tail (done to absolute perfection and removed from the tail) and the filet mignon. I had the profiteroles for dessert and shared one with my husband. In addition to the cocktails on the patio, we had wine-by-the-glass with our meals. It was definitely more than just a meal, it was an amazing dining experience. The homemade breakfasts were such delicious feasts. The rooms were beautiful, and we especially enjoyed having the electric fireplace, which made the evenings so cozy. The common spaces at the Belvedere are gorgeous and welcoming-- we loved hanging out in the sun room or library in the afternoons to sip cocktails and play board games. This is a lovely building with fine decor and an impressive wine list. I ordered the mussels in crème sauce, the beet carpaccio, and the ravioli, and shared the apple tart. The sauce on the mussels was fantastic, but the mussels were overcooked. The carpaccio was light and lovely. The ravioli were filled with a flavorful filling, but the pasta was overcooked. The servers were very attentive and pleasant. In all this is a nice place for a special night out, but the potential for awesome was hampered somewhat by cooking technique. read more

My man ordered a 4-course meal, and I ordered a 3-course. It was delicious. The flavors were amazing. Your meal is quality over quantity at The Belvedere, which I would choose any day of the week. The appetizers, sides and desserts are out of this world. The ambiance is intimate, quiet and elegant. My only complaint is that my filet mignon was a bit dry. And for the sticker price at The Belvedere, the steak shouldn't be dry. ALWAYS call well in advance for reservations, as there are only about eight tables. Make the effort to get a bit more dressed up when you go to The Belvedere, and know that it is very pricey: Our tab-- including 2 glasses of wine-- was $120 without tip, $142 with. What a wonderful place to dine. I never knew this place existed and so happy someone recommended it to me. I went to eat not to stay. They do two seatings for dinner 6 & 8 and do multi course dining two to five courses (your choice) at a set price. We arrived early to have drinks on the veranda which I would suggest as their grounds are magnificent. Then your assigned server comes to get you for your appointed dining time. The service and food were both outstanding! The inn keeper is also the chef and he is phenomenal at his craft. We aren't from here and my husband looked long and hard for a place for my birthday. We had the 4 course meal and our chosen entree was the chateaubriand for two. It was outstanding and literally every dish did not disappoint. Dinner lasted 3 hours they don't rush the courses. Well, we had high hopes for this place as our friends recommended them, but by the end of our first night stay we were already packing our stuff. It definitely doesn't worth it! The house and garden are beautiful, but we could not sleep on that bed, I don't know what exactly was worse their bed or service, but we didn't sleep even an hour straight. In the morning, we realized that both my husband and I have pain all over the back, starting from neck. This was because bed transformed to hammock during two people sleeping. And despite of driving to our next destination-we drove home to see chiropractor. The other thing is their service, feels like as soon as you booked your stay via booking and pay for it - their don't care about you. When we addressed our issue to innkeepers (they are not so easy to find, you should call, as there is nobody there), we got answer that our booking was made through Booking.com and we should call them, because they cannot do anything, they cannot refund at least our next stay, they cannot deal with our issues, they are just sorry. I've got a feeling that because we booked the hotel not directly-we didn't deserve good service and caring, that you expect for $600 for two nights. They just don't care how you stay was!!!! After all we decided to try their breakfast, 'cause they are know for their restaurant. But instead of quality breakfast we faced small buffet with only sweet food and fruits! There were deserts (cobbler and cakes), cereal, fruits and sausages. Even more, sausages where covered with some kind of syrup!!! If you don't eat sugar or prefer healthy food - this is not the right place for you. So, they didn't refund us our stay, we paid $600 for one night+chiropractor visit to fix both of us. This was to worst night in hotel I've ever experienced! read more

The building itself lights up at night and is just beautiful. Inside, is as to be expected for a B&B, looks old worldy but fits the theme perfectly. Beds are a little crickly and floors squeak when you walk but the bed was comfy and showers awesome. A little odd to have a sink right in the room but we got over that quickly. Breakfast was very "English", small portions by American standards but delicious. Frest fruit. Juice and tea/coffee along with whatever the chef cooks up for you. Quiche and French toast during our visit, all very good. Dinner deserves its own paragraph because it was phenomenal. We had the white wine, margatini, beet carpaccio, mussels, arugula salad, bisque, scallops (out of this world), chocolate cheesecake and apple tart tin. Simply delicious. Our expectations were high...and they were met with every course. Please book a stay here, it's romantic, serene, secluded and simply beautiful. We had a wonderful 2 day experience here. The staff is very welcoming without being over bearing. Everything was offered at the perfect time without having to ask for anything. That's what makes this place an amazing and comforting experience. Our breakfast and dinner were amazing too. We enjoyed a 2 course breakfast with homemade breads and fresh fruit followed by a vegetable frittata and crispy bacon. The breakfast is included in the room rate. Absolutely delicious!!! For dinner we had the chateaubriand with scallop potatoes and brocollini. One of the best meals I've ever enjoyed. They have an extensive wine list and cocktail menu. We enjoyed after dinner drinks in the library. We would highly recommend this inn and restaurant for any special occasion. We felt like royalty. read more

Had to flag him down to get drink refills, to order, and all other requests. Recommend visiting the site yet not the restaurant. After commenting on the poor quality of the first courses was told they would removed from charges and was offered a course free of charge. The owners are fickle. The one who is the chef is generally nice enough. The other one is always nasty. Every time anyone calls and he answers, it is unpleasant. Rather notorious in the area for that. So much for community support. As many times as we have eaten there and tipped very generously, now we were rejected for dinner because we are not "hotel guests". Even though we called a week in advance. I really can't say enough good things about the Belvedere Inn & Restaurant. My girlfriend and I took a sort of impromptu trip to Saugatuck and stayed here. We had a wonderful time. The staff are hospitable, our room was clean and wonderful, it was a peaceful and relaxing stay, and we ate some delicious food. The Inn is a couple miles from downtown Saugatuck and is on some gorgeous land. I can't tell if there's a path to walk from the Inn to downtown Saugatuck, which would be nice to do if the weather permits. It was too cold for us, so we just drove downtown. Breakfast in the mornings was delicious and everything is homemade. The inkeeper, Shaun, is also the chef and he is awesome at making simple and delicious food. We had stuffed French toast, and vegetable frittata. We also ate at their restaurant one night, which is open to the public. It was a nice experience, although I am not dying to do it again next time I go back--I'd rather try a new place. Overall, our stay at the Belvedere Inn was amazing and I'd love to go back, but will reserve this spot for special occasions. read more

No children, no smoking and no pets??? Too bad this isn't an entire colony! What a beautiful bed and breakfast! The place and the grounds were absolutely immaculate. You never have to leave the place, which is a good thing, because it's not walking distance to downtown Saugatuck. We received a dining credit with our stay, and we almost didn't use it, because we thought leaving the premises would give us more of a sense of occasion. I couldn't be happier that we stayed. The service and the food were spectacular! The owners knew most of the locals, and would sit at their tables and chat with them. First of all, I was surprised by the few reviews about staying at the inn, so I paid more attention to details and decided to write a long review. We came on Christmas Day in time for Christmas buffet dinner and stayed for two nights. Let's talk about Christmas buffet first. It was a great menu with prime rib, pork loin, veggies, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes and more plus the dessert buffet. The service was phenomenal but the timing and flow wasn't the best. People were in line waiting for food for twenty minutes. I wish they would precut the meat and makes it faster. The prime rib was one of the best I tasted. If they would put signs next to all the sauce and dishes, that would greatly help as well. The dinner was $50 per person plus 20% gratuity and drinks. It's a little too expensive in our mind, but we genuinely like our server Amy and she made it a great experience for us. We booked this place because our favorite B&B was fully booked, but this isn't a bad option. From the price point, I think the service, lodging and breakfast was reasonable. We stayed at the Abbey, which is the corner room on the second floor, so it was very quiet and cozy. I was wondering why there's no pictures of the bathroom and shower and I know why. It's so tight! I understand it's an old house and the space is limited. If you like a big shower or tub, you should choose the suites or stay in a hotel. I like how they decorate everything in the room. Everything looks perfect and functional and there's a theme. This room is definitely oceanic artist theme with some cool stuff. During our stay, the temperatures were from 20s to 50s. The room is rather cold in the evenings due to drafts from the windows. We still enjoyed our stay. The fact that there's no tv in this room makes us talk more and enjoy our time together. Love that! This room isn't big but we weren't going to stay inside all the time anyway. Las but not the least is the breakfast. We were expecting a little more than we were given, but they do give you a right portion of food. We were used to eating so much for breakfast and not needing lunch. We think the breakfast were different and fine, but wished they would do a three course breakfast for everyone instead of having people get their own yogurt and bread. That way there's less waste and we don't have to see the same bread or fruits being served for two or three days. One thing my husband and I love is their afternoon/evening snack bar. They served chocolate cupcakes one day and we had so many because it's so good. You won't go hungry if you stay here that's for sure. Overall, we don't mind coming back again if the timing and price is right for us. (Staying here on a weekday is much cheaper). read more

I'm shocked to be the first person to review this place. It looks like it's been here a while and that they have their act together. Now, we did not stay at the Belvedere, we only ate there. I can't speak to the accommodations, but the grounds are beautiful. I do want to stay in the future. There were four of us and we just wanted to stay 2 nights and they had a 3 night minimum. We ended up renting a house near the downtown of Saugatauk that was a lot of fun. The Belvedere is more on the romantic side. For the restaurant review, we loved it. It's a tasting menu. What I thought was remarkable is the number of main courses to choose from. Typically, you have 3 maybe 4 choices, but the Belvedere had atleast 8. The cost by fine dining standards was reasonable and worth every penny. You can expect to pay for meal, drinks, tax tip around $70 per person. Stunning, well groomed location. The grounds are breathtaking, sort of drips romance at every turn. Great for couples. I was there for Christmas brunch. For a prix fixe menu at 50 a person I would have hoped for a slightly larger selection. There were a few amazing dishes that I was throughly impressed with. There was a cheese and onion tart that was sublime. Very few options for vegetarians or non red meat eaters. I found my sliced pork and prime rib to be a little dry and overcooked. The side dishes were very good. Including the Yorkshire pudding which was authentic and delicious. Desserts were okay. Drinks were very pricey. 10 per martini. Shaun the head chef was charming and nice and Irish! My big big complaint was our server. She seemed annoyed from the second we sat down. There were 10 of us. So, at 50 a person, you'd think she would have been a tad more friendly and available, I had never been to the belvedere in all my years of coming to saugatuck. I really wanted to know about the history of the building, maybe see a room... Our server informed me I'd need to pay to take a tour and provided me ZERO info about the history. I walked around and did find another server who was happy to give me the history of this beautiful b&b. I'll definitely return, I'd love to give this location another shot. We are on our way back from the Belvedere Inn after celebrating our first anniversary there, and cannot stop talking about what a wonderful time we had. We had never done a B&B before, and were apprehensive; however, after our stay, we know we will do it again, and we cannot think of a single reason to stay anywhere else. The staff there is so friendly and accomodating. We thoroughly enjoyed each meal - they make the best gronola I have ever tasted, and we had an exquisite anniversary dinner there on July 4th. The lemonade, tea, coffee and snacks after a day at the beach were also a really great touch. We loved our room, and are considering splurging on one of the bigger suites next year, just for fun. We LOVED it, and would highly recommend it! One thing though, the walls are a bit thin, so if you intend to be a disruptive neighbor, as we seemed to have next door, please go somewhere else where that is more appropriate - somewhere not as classy as the Belvedere! From the hospitality when we stopped by in the afternoon to look to calling in to request a reservation for the 8:00 seating to taking our coats and welcoming us Shaun was warm, welcoming, friendly and professional. We were told we be taken care by Linda and we were seated in a beautiful dining room near the fireplace. Linda was wonderful...attentive without hovering My husband and I each ordered 2 courses but we shared his pate and my arugula salad and it was as if we had 3 courses, and more than enough food! Since we decided to try out the restaurant, this review does not reflect the inn itself. I noticed that the inn gets very positive reviews and, as such, hope that they shine in that area. The prix fixe menu was not discouraging but the quality of the food and the add-on prices was a major turn-off. My wife and I took a friend of ours out for her birthday and we decided on Belvedere. The wine was decent, the service was okay, and the food was not bad. I had the lobster tail as did our birthday friend and my wife had the filet mignon. We thought that the price was high for the quality, but when we received the bill, my wife paid it, and I didn't see it until we got home. I was surprised to pay over 200 dollars for two salads, one soup, two glasses of wine and our three entrees. I called the inn and they told me there was an extra $25 added if you chose the lobster and that it was written on the menu. I honestly did not see that but then again it might have been my fault. However, $85 for a little bit of pasta with a small lobster tail, a cup of soup and a glass of pinot grigio wine leaves on feeling a bit snookered. Never again!! read more

What can we say about The Belvedere, other than it is one of the nicest, finest dining experiences in Saugatuck. Shaun does an amazing job with the food, Pete with the hospitality. We have been here for their Valentine's dinner 2 or 3 times (not to miss, extremely romantic setting), a wine-tasting dinner, and just a weekend dinner out with good friends. Each time was fantastic & delicious! On a side note, we first encountered The Belvedere when we needed to stay in town (before we had our own home in Saugatuck) to attend an anniversary party. We happened upon the place merely for convenience, since it was close to where the party was to be. Pete & Shaun had recently bought the inn. It was also a lovely experience. To show you how they are 'in-tune' with their guests, we mentioned that we would have to leave very early on Sunday morning to make it back to Chicago in time for another commitment. We are just finishing a two night stay at the Belvedere Inn in Saugatuck, MI. I can't say enough good things about our stay. This is the third time we have stayed here and each time it has been fabulous. The Inn is a B& B that is set in an elegant turn of the century mansion with beautiful furnishings and gardens. Sean , the co- proprietor is an extremely gracious host and an accomplished gourmet chef. The two meals we had here were some of the best we have ever had. Went there for New Years Eve...not worth it. Over priced..food was awful service terrible ..very over priced
