Roofie Central! Go to 5801 instead. Come here if you want to get roofied! This has been a problem for years with this establishment. The owners do not care, the employees do not care, the police do not (evidently) care! Used to come here often, but after numerous reports of this being the case, I won't step foot here again. Additionally, there is a MINIMUM $10 cover fee every night, regardless of what's going on inside (nothing to write home about), on top of that there is a minimum charge of $10 on credit/debit cards. Meaning you must spend at least $20 to have a mediocre night here. To add to it all, I've left my card here once, I was able to come back the next day and get it luckily. My friend did the same a few months later, she went back the next day and the bartender (some guy) working started discussing with her how hammered he was the night prior and that he was still hungover. She provided her ID to him and he checked the cards they had and said "sorry, your card's not here. We might've given it out to someone else" HELLO WHAT?! This place is very, very Pittsburgh, through and through - reasonably priced, welcoming, rough around the edges, and blunt. It's not touristy at all, which is the reason why I like going every time I visit but might put you off if you go in expecting it to be. All in all, it's exactly what it says in its name - an ultra-dive bar where you're bound to make a new friend or two, hear hyperlocal city gossip, and have the bartender tell you a story about getting into a fight with a pigeon at a bus stop. A friend and I were in town and met up with some local friends here at Belvedere's on an early Tuesday evening before meeting up with some more friends later on. Bartender Tara was super friendly and lots of fun during our visit. It was a little empty when we first got there but it definitely got busier as the night went on. I had my first ever Yuengling beer which is America's oldest brewery I was surprised to learn and it was very good. I also had a hurricane cocktail which was great. They have several TVs in both the front and back rooms, as well as darts, pinball machines, and pool tables in the back room. They even have a roller rink with a disco ball in back, although I don't know if it is actively used. Fun place! read more

Ran into some Aussies that were traveling the east coast and headed to my native Georgia. Great convo and gave them the inside scoop on every thing to see in my home state while they were there. I had a GREAT time at Belvedere's this past Saturday night. I hadn't been there in probably 10 years. It didn't smell like smoke and the gross couches were gone. So win in my book! Saturday was 90's night and it was amazing! I seriously had so much fun. I had no problem getting served at the bar- very little wait time. I used the back bar that was cash only and the drinks were cheap. There was $5 cover for the night. Staff were friendly. It was packed but that didn't bother me at all. Just made it more fun. This place was pretty cool overall. As someone who just graduated college and is still trying to balance being in my young twenties at night all while trying to take over corporate America with my fancy college day job it was great for a night out with my friends. One of the bars is cash only though (not sure about the second) and there's only one dance floor I believe, so if the music isn't hitting then you can't really do much else there. I know they have pool tables but it was really crowded on a Saturday night so it was hard to get in a game. I requested an obscure mixed drink that I'm pretty sure no one has ordered anywhere since the early 1990s and they made it for me, so huge props to this place for that. Definitely a youngeon Pittsburgh hot spot. The space in the front bar is big, with a long bar and a wraparound counter with seating on the other side of the room, allowing for plenty of space to rest your drink. They have a "bouncer" for busy nights and a coat check as well. They have a back room, with pool tables and bar games, an additional bar, a stage for musical genius, and floor space for dancing. The lady's bathroom is, however, questionable. The stalls are extremely short and not sure how i felt about that. A little privacy during a restroom break is the least humans deserve. just sayin. So this might be the most random place to venture to, but it's worth it! I'm actually not a dive bar type of girl, but I love this crazy venue! Disco derby, get weird, sexplosion, 80s nights, and more! The DJs are great, and tailor the music to the theme for the night. I caught the disco derby last night, and it was so much fun! You can rent skates (for $3 or bring your own), rent a locker (with a $5 deposit), and get in with a cover ($10 without a reservation).... As far as Belvedere's goes, it's so bad, it's on that Michael Jackson level of Bad, that's: good... so does that mean it's bad? No no, that really means it's awesome. So what makes an Ultimate Dive bar, let's run through a checklist shall we: Cash only... yup, and you need to get it from their ATM for a nice pooch screwing fee Heavily tattooed bar tenders and comically large/surly bouncers and staff - yep. Must serve gross bar rail. Ok they do but I ordered a gin and tonic and they made it with good quality tanqueray, and then I ordered a vodka soda and they used Belvedere - WTF? Must have a gross washroom, with graffiti referencing the male genitalia and where to call for a good time. I've seen much grosser bathrooms, and there were no numbers to call for a good time, so I did not have a good time, so I stayed here longer. I guess that's all part of the idea, they don't want competition? Must have theme nights. Ok when I was bar hopping the sweet theme night was 80s night. Now for some reason 90s night is considered way back? WTH? No more neon? And somehow the content of my iTunes if being played ironically?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Last night we were celebrating my sisters fiancés 32nd birthday... and they chose this.."place". my first time ever being here. we walk in go through the ID process paid the cover and got stamped. I'd like to point out all of us we're sober because our night didn't even start.. our friends walked to the very back where they found a white couch to sit on, my sister and I were sitting in two metal chairs and her fiance was standing with us letting us ladies sit. all of a sudden a heavy set security guard comes over to my sisters fiancé and proceeds to look at him and says "Get the f*ck out of my way" we had thought he was kidding because we had just got there and were all just hanging out, I was the only one who'd had a drink at belvedere's (one we spent 14 on). Staring at the security guard in absolute disbelief he says it again and then snaps tf out of it saying "I think we got off on the wrong foot", and tried to shake my sisters fiancés hand. We all stood up and walked to the door to get our admission refund because well we didn't do anything except waste our money. Definitely liked this place. The front bar was super crowded when my friends and I came in so we quickly went to the back bar. The dance floor was nice and roomy and the area seemed obviously bigger than the front. Drinks were pretty good, had to ask the bartender to make them stronger because I wasn't tasting any liquor. A few things I wasn't too crazy about was #1) The bathroom. I'm only 5"2 and the bathroom door had to have been only about 4 feet tall. Anyone could look over the stall or under the stall for the matter which made me uncomfortable. #2) There weren't a lot of places to actually sit. There were way more people than chairs which like yeah ok I get it we're at a bar but damn I would like a place to sit for a few minutes. #3) The bars for whatever reason do not do both cash and card. The front bar only does cards and the back only does cash. I visited Belvedere's on a Sunday night (Labor Day weekend) and it wasn't especially busy, but the bar itself was nice. They have a front room with a bar and then a back room that's split in half. One side has pool tables and is pretty casual, and the other side is a dance floor with a DJ! I wasn't drinking, so I can't attest to their prices, but it seemed like a pretty cool place. Belvedere's is our go-to place for dancing! This bar has apparently gone through a face lift (I had not seen it prior) and has made some improvements. The vibe is more divey without being a tiny, smoke filled bar. They have two different bars and a TON of space to hang out. The seating is definitely limited, but we don't go to sit ;) DJs on any given night are playing awesome music and frequently they have theme nights: 80s, 90s, 2000s music, etc. There is a large dance floor that doesn't ever feel like a swimming pool of people. I've never felt crowded or like I was being sought out with unwanted advances from others. There is also a separate area with pool tables and a cash-only bar. The staff here have always been easy to work with and I've never had any issues with them. Drinks are reasonably priced and there is a coat check for when it's freezing outside. If you enjoy dancing but don't want the South Side club scene, definitely check this place out! read more

After living in Pittsburgh for five years I can now say with confidence that Belvedere's is one of my favorite places in the whole city and one of the main reasons I love living in Lawrenceville. From the moment you walk in the door you are branded with a "You are Beautiful" hand stamp and the love does not stop there. Pabst Blue Ribbon pounders (16 oz. cans) are only one dollar before midnight on Thursday's for 80's night! After that they go up to a whopping two dollars for the rest of the night, accompanied by $3 well drinks and many more specials. The atmosphere at Belvedere's is welcoming for just about anyone as long as you come with an open mind! There aren't many places you can find the mix of people that inhabit Belvedere's on any given night--not to mention the mix of dancing styles. No judgment is passed and everyone is treated with respect. The dance floor is usually my go-to spot but there are also couches for lounging, pool tables and darts. A separate bar in a quieter room is also good for those looking to relax rather than be part of a large crowd. Thursday's are 80's nights, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Saturday's are 90's. Fourth Saturday of the month is roller derby night! Bartenders are always super friendly, often asking if you have a safe ride home for the night before serving you. The fact that they have bathroom attendants always makes me laugh because it is so casual but the attendants in the ladies room are always fun to talk to and very helpful. And, although I've never gone for the food, I have tried a friend's (French fries with black beans, peppers and onions) and it was amazing! Overall, the eclectic group of people and welcoming, hipster/punk vibe make Belvedere's a unique spot where you have to TRY to have a bad time. A "dive bar" is the perfect description for Belvedere's though as all locals know, Belvs takes pride in being known as a true "ultra dive". Being a Lawrenceville local, I have been to Belvederes many times. There are nights when I enjoy the atmosphere and nights when I stay for a drink and then leave. This is mainly dependent upon the crowd and day of the week. I've listed some of the positive and negative qualities of the place below. Negative aspects of Belvedere's are as follows: 1.) you can usually count on a large crowd of stinky, sweaty people who don't believe in bathing 2.) You've got to be able to withstand a lot of cigarette smoke as this is allowed inside of the premises - and most of the people who frequent Belvederes smoke - a lot. 3.) The poorly lit atmosphere makes it difficult to get around at times (especially if you are crocked) 4.) The dirty environment isn't for those with a weak stomach - this is a dive bar. 5.) They do not serve food so you are out of luck if you want to grab a bite. Positive aspects of Belvederes are 1.) the drinks are cheap 2.) 80's night is a total blast (Thursdays) 3.) Always a wide range of interesting people to talk to and see 4.) It is right across the street from the late night Wendy's and right next door to the 24 hour Get Go. (snacks and cigarettes!) 5.) If the crowd sucks you can easily walk to another bar down the street. It is on Butler St. so everything is easily accessible here. 6.) The staff is nice 7.) The smoking indoors policy is nice if you are a smoker 8.) They've got pinball machines and pool tables. 9.) Belvedere's hosts many fun themed nights (80's night, 90's night, DJs, bands, Down and Derby, Pudding Wrestling, Karaoke, Burlesque Shows, etc etc....) All in all it is a place worth checking out. If you are over 30 or employed, you will want to go elsewhere...anywhere else. A friend brought us here because the girls in the group wanted to dance while we were in Lawrenceville. Disclaimer: dancing is not my thing and I loathe smoking. The essence of this place: It is the adult version of the locker that all the dweebs in high school were forcefully stuffed. But now they choose to be here. Furthermore, I don't believe healthy human life could be sustained for over a few hours in this environment. The odor: The place smelled like a combination of fraternity pledge on day 15 and the inside of Dennis Leary's car. My jacket smelled for over a week. I thought it may have died. The heat: It was about 90 degrees in the place, excluding the bathroom. A great temperature for dancing or breathing in general. Now there is a cover. I have no idea of why a hellhole like this would have a $5 cover? Maybe to let in underage people? I don't know. Or to subsidize the cheap PBRs? It definitely wasn't for the entertainment. The DJ played a poor mix of 90s music and often didn't play more than half of a song. Baby Got Back? Oh god, no. The people: It's hard to tell as it was dark. But mostly socially awkward people seemed to be the general population of this establishment. I saw a few girls falling on the floor trying to do a wheelbarrow and they seemed to be the most normal. Most people looked like they got dressed drunk or homeless. If you want to go to a real Pittsburgh dive bar, go to Jack's. Or any other place on most corners of the city with an Iron City neon sign. Belvedere's is cool if you like hipster dance clubs. A dance club is a dance club to me, so here is a brief summary of why they get 4 stars instead of 2 or 3. 1. While they do allow smoking, I've never felt the place is smokey. While I still will leave with a smokey tinge to my clothing, it isn't a crazy amount of odor. The six of us had a ball, there's a pool table, cushy chairs and a big dance floor that's partitioned off with netting. Drinks are so inexpensive, it just encourages you to truly get your drink on. I've been here on almost every night of the week and have never had a problem. I've never smelled anything weird, either.
