Decent dog park. Have brought family pups here, and it's a decent spot. I go for the dogs, as like them more than people. Some kidding aside nice folks here. Have seen responsible people. That's not always the case. Here you can rest assured. There is lots of supervision. Is it the most exciting one? Nope. There's a good sized area for dogs to run. Am grateful for this, but would like more opportunities for four legged family members. If in the area stop in, as a tired dog is a good dog. read more

Nice little park. Came here to watch my neighbor play soccer. The field is artificial turf with only two playing greens from what I saw. They have soccer turf, baseball field, walking/jogging path, pond with bridges that cross over, bathroom pavillon with water station, and ample parking. Ducks & geese were in the pond & I'm plenty of other wildlife. This park is located in a neat little area of Alexandria and there is an outdoor shopping development across the street with restaurants in it as well. read more

This park is a fun place for children for these reasons: 1) There are several bridges, one leading to a little island in the pond where geese rest. 2) The pond itself has turtles, geese, and fish for kids to look at. 3) There are free public restrooms. 4) There's plenty of parking. Best and largest park in area has 3 other smaller parks connected. Water/lake/turtles/ducks and right next to Chesapeake wash. Really beautiful place and always calm and peaceful when I go take my dog. Sundays they have farmers market, this last one I stayed AWAY FROM it as some guy had giant speakers and was blasting awful loud music and it just ruined it PLUS I didn't want to go deaf lol. This park is a great community Resource and is also the home of the West End Farmers Market on Sundays. There is a small playground, but the highlight is definitely the pond. It has lots of turtles, geese, birds, and fish. During the summer it is stocked for fishing. There is a very large dog park here too. There are public restrooms here and a pop-up COVID testing site. It's also adjacent to some retail, standout is Indochen. There's lots of parking available if you drive. read more

The dog park here is pretty nice. It's a large open space with seating and benches in the middle for the humans to congregate. There are water bowls throughout (BYO water though) and some communal toys. It is partially mulched too which helps with the mud. My dog had a grand old time romping around and there were lots of friendly dogs and people. read more

My boyfriend and I have been taking our puppy to this dog park for 6 months, since we got her. We have never had any problems and we always felt very safe. Today, i took her by myself and my puppy was attacked by a violent, aggressive dog. It was the scariest thing. She is just a little thing and he ran at her and jumped at her the second he got through the door. It took me 5 minutes to pull him off of her - obviously the other owner was in no hurry to help. Which was shocking because he was there with his infant child and family. He obviously trained his dog to be aggressive towards other dogs. If you have an aggressive dog, do not bring them to the dog park. The park is for nice dogs to play. I'm not saying that you should not go here, I'm just saying that you need to be aware at all times and know that some dogs are not friendly. We will not be going back. Be aware of even nice families with dogs. If you see any aggressive dogs, go the other way. Get your dog out of that situation. read more

Excellent park for all kinds of activities! Dog park.... Fields for sports.... Paths for strolling or running...water and bridges....

It's a nice park but there are only two swings and only one bucket swing for kids under 1. I waited 25 minutes for the bucket swing to become free and another mom swooped in and took it while I stood like 4 feet away. The older woman she was with said I think that lady was waiting and the mom shrugged. On the way back, another family was encouraging their older kids to chase the geese who ran away and hissed at them. So... kind of trashy behavior and not worth it. read more

Ben Brenman Park is named after in the honor of Colonel Ben Brenman and is located right off of Holmes Run Parkway, encompassing about 59 acres. The park has picnic benches, pathways, an amphitheater, athletic fields (where one is has a rectangular synthetic turf), a fenced-in dog park (closer to the library), some parking spots (as well as limited ones along the Parkway), a picnic pavilion with grills, a playground for children, a nice pond, public restrooms, as well as walking/bicycle trails. While the paths/trails are not lit besides with natural light, it's great to have a nice walk/stroll during the daytime. I highly recommend in crossing the wooden bridge to see the river during the evening, as it's pretty scenic and serene with the setting sun - it really makes you think you're somewhere completely different than in the middle of the busy city of Alexandria! I also like the open space off of Holmes Run Parkway, where there are winding trails, and the trees are more on the perimeter of the paths. I'm just here for the dogs. More accurately, my dog was just here for the dogs. But there were none to be found... Sigh. We were driving from Florida to Vermont over several days with a stop in Maryland that night at a relative's home. We stopped by this park some my border terrier could run out any crazies she might have from being cooped up in the car for hours on end. We did have a nice 20 minute walk form the main part of the park to the deserted dog park on one side and then to the deserted (and very muddy) dog park on the other side... But there is no way I can wear out this little fella in 30 minutes the way a new four-legged friend could in 10. It was around 5 pm. Usually dog parks are starting to fill up at that time! But no one was there, and we had to walk pretty far to find this out. (I mean, heaven forbid I get some exercise while trying to tire out my dog, right? But seriously, if you are in a rush, the parking situation could be a drawback.) Maybe I'm spoiled by Vermont dog parks. Maybe it was just an off day. But next time, we'll keep driving. read more

I have been going here since I was a little girl! I absolutely love this park. I actually call it Cameron Station (the townhouses across the street). This is great for walking dogs, going for a run, nice stroll in the park, watching little league baseball or even great for kids because there is a jungle gym. Off to the side there is a bridge that leads to a volleyball court and dog park which are also fun! Also, recently they have added a soccer field, but usually is packed with registered teams. The park has a big pond at the center and a trail surrounding it. There are also bathrooms if needed. Watch out I will say there is a lot of geese poop so don't wear the nicest shoes. read more

It's a great park in so many ways. Unfortunately I can't bring my walkers-dependent senior parents until after summer when the geese droppings are gone when the geese have moved on. Ben Brenman Park is surprisingly sizable (nearly 60 acres) considering its location, tucked away at the eastern end of Cameron Station. And while Cameron Station itself, admittedly, doesn't make the most bucolic of backdrops, it helps that the park is bounded by Holmes Run, Deer Run, and Holmes Run Scenic Easement. Ben Brenman is a lovely green tract, home to a recreational goldmine, including playground, fenced dog park, baseball diamond, brand new lighted turf fields, large koi pond, picnic area, walking/cycling paths, and rest facilities. In winter you'll find a quiet calm in the park, while in warmer months it, will be packed with visitors, from human to animal: blue and green heron, mockingbird, geese, ducks, frogs, and turtles. In nice weather, you'll find Little Leaguers at play, joggers on the paths, families strolling around the pond, couples picnicking, or groups of men doing Tai Chi on the grassy swaths of land. Many weekends, festivals take place in the parking lot in the far southwestern corner of the park, celebrating everything from Earth Day to art and wine. And May through November, this is where the fabulous little West End Farmers Market is held on Sunday mornings. Husband and I pass through Ben Brenman often, either on long walks around the beautiful West End rec areas or on our weekly trips to the West End Market. This park provides a welcome communal space in the heart of a vital Alexandria neighborhood. read more

My pup definitely liked this dog park the best for the variety of balls available. We went on a rainy day because she's a pup and her energy isn't bound by weather restrictions like humans. The dog park is small with mulch with a few dog bowls, but if your dog likes balls this is the place to be! There are also some tunnels, which I imagine are fun during chase. When we went there weren't any dogs around so I can't comment on the locals, but we'll be back again to play soccer. read more

We've brought the baby here a few times during the summer and fall to get out and walk about. We also liked that the playground, although small, has an infant swing. She's still a little small for it but she tolerated the gentle swings. In nice weather, there's lots of couples doing their walks, families with the strollers and dog walkers. I've come here for the farmer's market and although it doesn't come close to the farmer's markets in SF, it has the basics. There is a coffee shop, pizza restaurant, and small market near the park. read more

Pretty cool. Plenty of parking unlike Dora Kelley which I attempted to go to earlier. I went here to fly my kite. It was a decent experience. I just wished they had more open space minus the trees. I would totally come here again. The park is open until 10pm which is hard to find here in dc as most things close at dusk. My kite and I shall be back. read more

Really nice spacious park in the middle of bustling Alexandria. It has a cute little gazebo area in the middle of a small lake lined with cherry blossoms -- which means it is super beautiful here during the spring. There's a dog park that you can access by going over a small bridge next to the baseball field. The park is 3/4 mulch with 1/4 being grass. The restrooms at this park are probably the cleanest park restrooms I've ever been to! Overally, I really like this place! read more

My husband and I are such good pup parents, that we decided to take our pup to the dog park on the coldest, windiest day of the weekend. Having only been to the one in Shirlington, we searched for a place near our house. This park happened to be in the next town over. The park was easy to find, and is quite large. They have baseball/soccer fields, a big pond, and pathways to for running/walking. We weren't quite sure where the dog park was, but luckily we ran into a guy with his dog, and he pointed us in the right direction. Of course we parked the furthest away from the dog park. It's in the back of the park. To get to the dog park you have to cross a foot bridge, and it's right on the other side. The dog park is fenced in, and is a decent size (smaller than shirlington). There was no one there when we showed up. A couple dogs from the neighborhood nearby showed up about 20 minutes later. My pup had a great time running around with them. All the dogs were well behaved. Of course there was that one owner who didn't like the "rough" play. And apparently some owners like to get wasted before they come to the dog park. There was this guy that showed up with a "brown bag" in his back pocket, and started to talk about how he was voting for the man upstairs come the election. The funniest part though, was when he was getting ready to leave with his pup, and fell over backwards while trying to put the leash on his dog! I can see this place getting packed on the weekends when the weather gets nice. But we will definitely try it out and see if it is manageable. read more

Nice enclosed toddler / little kid playground. Rubber surface. Bathrooms. Parking. Jungle gym, two baby swings. Really pretty. In the spring, there are beautiful cherry trees in bloom. If you leave the playground and cross the little bridge past the bathrooms, then turn left, there is a playground for bigger kids. read more

This is a beautiful park for go for a walk/ hike, jog,bike ride, walking your dog or child IN A STROLLER. It is very lovely and there is a pond. HOWEVER, this is not a good playground park. There is a VERY small and over crowded playground. It IS fenced in, has a soft/padded ground and built geared toward toddlers. Very active children will become bored very quickly. There are only 2 infant swings, no swings for older children and no sandbox, 2 small and 1 moderate sized slides. Maybe early on a weekday morning it would be less crowded, but we went at 2 pm on a weekday and it was packed, I can only imagine what it's like on a weekend! read more

There are two dog parks near Ben Brenman Park. One is next to library on Duke St, and the other is across abridge near the lighted baseball field. My favorite park is one across the bridge by the baseball field. It's small and nothing fancy, but everyone who goes there is kind and conscientous. We all watch our dogs and stop any unacceptable play immediately. There is a path to go down to the creek, where water-loving dogs can splash around. We have picnics together and go on dog outings (like the recent Olde Owne Dogge Walke). read more

This is a great park that has been hiding just out of sight for years. I can't count how many times I drive past it on Duke goin to/from work, and I never knew that it was actually a good park. I recently moved in the area, and I've taken my dog there to ply a few times. There are good walking paths around the ponds for when you just want to walk/jog, or there are two off-leash dog parks within walking distance of the parking lots. One is in Brenman park, across a small footbridge on the south side of the park. The other is a stand alone dog park across Duke st on the north side of the park (Accessed via the sidewalks on the fly-over bridge to leave the park via car). Never really had a problem with crowding or cleanliness; other dog owners seem pretty good about picking up after their dogs. Always a variety of toys and water bowls out for everyone to use. read more

It seems people are confusing this dog park with other local ones. This is right next to Cameron station not the dog park next to the library. You have to cross over a bridge to get to it. It is relatively small square and the its a big bowl there but no water. Occasionally there are toys there. All the dogs that go here seem to be really friendly. read more

Playground off of Holmes Run Parkway (ages 4+) is really nice, but there are rarely any other kids to play with. It does have mulch which my niece doesn't like. The playground across the bridge (ages 2 to 4) is really nice and there are lots of kid there. No mulch, but much smaller equipment, of course. Plus actual bathrooms nearby!! Lots of dog walkers in the area, so if your kid likes dogs that is a big plus. The running/walking trails are very popular and the river and lake scenery make this a trnaquil place. read more
