She literally told me that I personally claimed I would take on the responsibility of caring for my father who broke his hip and had a replacement two weeks ago. Two weeks ago! I asked her to furnish evidence that myself or literally anyone consented to moving my dad out of their rehab over two weeks early from his announced discharge date (04/22) and she could not. She couldn't furnish proof because no one did. Instead of admitting fault, she doubled down and tried to force me and my mom (who literally had a stay cation planned and aren't even around to do this even if we wanted to, which we adamantly do not) to take him home early and against our will. This has been an appalling and traumatic experience that Nurse Lydia alone caused. Let me repeat. Instead of respecting the wishes of the family responsible for the patient - who are unwilling and unable to provide the required in home care for a family member who just broke their hip **barely two weeks ago** she tried to continue to try force us to take the patient on against our will. Before this even happened, The fountains has been notified and made aware on multiple occasions that myself and my family are unwilling and unable to provide the level of care my dad requires (Tier 4 - far and beyond any reasonable person can handle on their own). Nurse Lydia could have taken the very basic steps of asking literally just one person to verify that my dad even had a safe place to go himself. She refused to do that. She literally refused to verify a single person was willing and able to take my dad in before literally helping him pack his bags to leave. Appalling, sickening and DANGEROUS behavior from a nurse bound to doing no harm. I actively fear for my father and my mother's safety as long as they are under Nurse Lydias care

The skilled nursing unit did not have a (AED) automated external defibrillator that could shock the heart into beating again. The director of the Fountains at Washington House Darnell Jenkins stated that The Fountains at Washington House was not required to have one. He provided no further explanation, so through my research I found out that neither Medicare or the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health requires a nursing home or skilled nursing facility to have one. How sad is that! A nursing home and skilled nursing facility without a defibrillator is a sentence of death if an elderly patient goes into cardiac arrest. I guess their so called crash cart was only viable as a refreshment cart for the nurses! How about a big corporation like Watermark Communities going above and beyond the bar? Thats asking too much! They are about saving a shekel or two. If you value the life of your loved one stay clear of Watermark Communities. From Director Darnell Jenkins that could not even call my family to express condolences, to Cynthia Antoine a social worker that only provided 1 regression/progression meeting in 2 months, and some nurses, that lacked compassion, expertise, and caring attitudes led to my Mother's early departure in this life. I pleaded with the nurses to call the doctor or nurse practitioner to see my Mother and they always remarked they would. It was only unfulfilled lip service. In retrospect I should not have asked the nurses in a professional manner, I should have insisted and waited until the nurses called the doctor! Hounded them until the task was completed! But should I have too? That is why my Mother was in the skilled nursing unit and entrusted in their care! I have learned a tough lesson: "TRUST NO ONE". The exceptions to the lackluster care were the Physical and Occupational Therapists as they all did an exceptional job!

My parents moved there about 12 years ago when my mother's Alzheimer's was making it too challenging for my father to care for her. He moved into independent living (where, at the age of 90, he is still living with my stepmother), and my mother moved into skilled nursing. She received wonderful care there and was treated with respect. When she passed away, the staff on her floor cried and showed us great compassion. One of the things I'm most impressed with are the many activities planned there. Recently they had a Moroccan festival, where they learned about the culture and customs. They had Moroccan food at dinner that night, and they even brought in belly dancers. The units are nicely appointed and maintained. The entire building and grounds are lovely. The staff is friendly, making a point of getting to know the residents. It's comforting to know my father is living in a place where he is safe and will be well cared for.

It's enjoyable to every week have to question what they are doing there. It was unreal the the excuses, the stupidity and incompetence of people on all levels there from the director of the entire place down to the hairdresser and telephone operator. You could never get anything done by calling just once it required follow up after follow up. It's all very glossy on the outside but it hides rottenness. Ask for information on what services are provided in assisted living they can't provide you with one. *See Angies list for similar experiences as mine. * They like to blame family members for being difficult because you expect the nurses to do their job. For example bathing, clothing not on backwards, proper medication, getting the person down to get their hair done, being treated with respect by physical therapy. Doctors who can't call you back, who have medications being refilled at all different times and amounts. If you want to put your entire fortune down with this place and then continue to pay $5000 a month as well for a place that doesn't have enough staff or proper oversight, management, or procedures come here. Oh, and they also like to use the excuse -- well you know it's the memory - using that to blame or make excuses for their staff who do not do their jobs. One time my family member was waiting for the hair dresser to come pick her up. She say and sat. Thevstaff ciuldnt take tge time to see her sitting on the couch there and tell her they werent coming. The whole management of assisstedbliving which is full of memory issue people is confusing bevause there is no oversiggt, lead nurse, lead manager actively making sure things are done right. And i dont think there thirld world staff is trained well at all in how to deal with memory issue patients. And as for doctors they misdiagnosed what was wrong with my family member giving her medication that made things worse. It's not a good place.

At the conclusion of my visit I asked questions about follow up care. The most disappointing part was the unprofessional behavior. When I asked how soon I could go out after the procedure, Dr. Li responded, "Why, so you can go clubbing?" I was asking because I had a funeral and church service to attend. The comment was inappropriate and disrespectful. Additionally, at checkout, the front desk refused to call in my prescription, stating it was "easier" for me to go to the pharmacy in person because they didn't want to be put on hold. I have over 10 years of experience working in a pharmacy, and that is not how the process works. More importantly, telling a patient to run errands immediately after an oral surgery procedure is unacceptable. Patients should be set up for minimal stress and discomfort following treatment. The quality of care and professionalism has clearly declined. This will be reported to the Better Business Bureau and I encourage anyone else who has had a bad experience there to do the same! My family and I will not be returning and anyone who I've referred to the practice I'm informing them immediately.

In particular, my practitioner missed a hematoma on my leg and necrotic tissue, which then required me to go to an emergency room in another state who then successfully diagnosed what was going on and rebuilt the tissue in my leg over the course of months. The practitioners will ask you annually if you're experiencing feels of depression, and then will do absolutely nothing about it even if you ask for help. In fact, in my last interaction, I said why do you ask this? And was told by Ms. Bowman so that she could follow up. When I then said, and do you ever follow up, she said, "no.". The final straw was a prescription I needed reauthorization for, since I had moved to another insurance. My first request went unanswered for three weeks. When I followed up, the next message was ignored for another two weeks. When I got a call from the office, I asked what that appeal included, and they wouldn't tell me, and just insisted "it included everything." In a conversation with Ms. Bowman, it was clear my entire medical history was NOT included in the insurance authorization. As I said, the medical care has plummeted in recent year, and I can no longer recommend this practice. Whether they are overloaded or what, I can't say, but you will not receive good care here.

Tl;dr: If you can afford it, this is absolutely the place for your loved one…read more We had to place our mother in a memory care facility rather suddenly after an unexpected deterioration (after a longer slow deterioration of several years while she still lived independently), and we feel so lucky that Silverado Alexandria was able to find a space for her quickly. During a traumatic time, the Silverado team (especially Lindsay, but everyone we interacted with) was a rock for us, giving us guidance, comfort, and resources. They have every level of coordination available, and we leaned heavily on them for help in getting our mother in and settled. Dementia requires such a different outlook than most health care, and it was a relief to work with a team that 'gets it.' The facility is clean and more like a nice hotel than a nursing home. They have a lovely little outdoor patio, and are planning to renovate to create more protected outdoor space for residents next year. Rooms and bathrooms are nice, no complaints there. You can bring in your own furniture or use theirs. My mom, after going in peacefully (we told her she needed to be monitored for a medical issue for a few days) had a rough first week. She was very agitated the first day, and constantly called us for days. Through it all, the staff was so kind and respectful to her, and gave us advice on how to respond. The whole thing was of course very painful for us, but the frequent updates and communication and advice we received from Lindsay, Dana and the team went a long way towards helping us cope. My mom did start to settle after a couple weeks, and after a month was eating meals with others, participating in activities, and sleeping well. Now that she has been there for two months, I can honestly say my mother is looking younger than she has in years. She was miserable at home, lonely and confused and bored. Now, she seems so much less stressed, even standing up straighter, and there are even fewer wrinkles on her face. Though when we visit she still wants to go back to her old life (me too, mom), she is now safe, healthy, and has so much more stimulation and engagement than she did isolated at home. She got physical therapy to strengthen her against falls, she socializes with residents and staff, and they even go on outings to local parks or historical sites! The staff take her (and others) on walks in the wooded cemetery next door whenever weather allows. The way the staff interacts with residents is inspiring. Every staff member is trained to handle dementia, and they are all kind and friendly and respectful. I've learned a lot from them about how to react and what to say when visiting my mom. These people really care. I'm trying to include as much info as I can think of, since when I was searching for facilities it really helped to read accounts from others who had gone through this. The place is spotless whenever I've been there. They're in frequent communication (we can text or email Lindsay anytime) and solve any issues promptly. The staff seem well-paid and glad to be there. They have a concierge doctor you can use before/during/after transition, if needed, but can move your loved one to the facility medical staff whenever you're ready. My mom says the food is good and they have great cookies. (One of the activities they do each week is baking/cooking!) Thanks to Silverado, I'm confident that my mom is receiving the best care and quality of life she could possibly have, and I know they'll continue to be there supporting her (and us) every step of the rest of the way. It's expensive and self-pay, but if your loved one can afford it, it's the best place in the area by far.

Look no further ... we've been there, done that -- this place is the real deal!…read more For almost three years we cared for both parents with Dementia in our home - we had caregivers from big agencies, small agencies, independents and even our own dependents to help us. One year after my Mom passed away, we made the painful choice of moving my step-Dad into an assisted living/memory care community - and after visiting many different places ...well, we made the wrong choice! Go figure. We should've chosen Silverado... the great news is that he's there now! In December, 2019 we moved Tom from "Wrong Choice" Assisted Living Community to "Best Thing That Ever Happened" Silverado Memory Care after watching his physical and mental health spiral downward. When Tom arrived at Silverado he was catatonic, unresponsive, wheelchair bound and fed by hand; we weren't sure he would make it to the New Year. Who knew we were about to witness a Christmas miracle ... within ONE month - actually ONE week - Tom was back to his 'old self' -- walking, eating, laughing, thinking, solving, choosing, dancing, singing, engaging -- and oh ..even flirting {sigh} :) - Amazing how authentic care, true compassion and providing dignity and purpose can literally breathe life back into a soul.
