Pretty below average experience. The good is that they keep their tenants alive, have a clean facility on the surface, and do provide a decent range of enrichment activities. That's where they get the second star. Now the bad: The facility consistently failed to perform laundry tasks, despite advertising a weekly schedule. There were cockroaches in our apartment. The facility failed to restock critical medications for our tenant. They nickel and dime you for every single item. And finally, our family caught an aide employed by Brightview (Salem, I believe) yelling at an aide our family privately employed. Unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. While they present as a clean and welcoming facility, I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Compared to other assisted living facilities that I researched, my mom's overall time at Brightview was fine. Some employees were very kind while others presented as if they didn't want to be there. However, their end of life and after death care was terrible. First, we were charged over $10,000 for her last month of care, yet they let her die alone, even though they were aware that she was in the immediate dying process. I had jury duty the morning she passed away and Brightview left a couple voicemails that I needed to come right away, but I didn't get the messages until I was released around 11:00am. Since Brightview was charging over $300/day, one would think that someone could sit with her until they could reach the next of kin, but that didn't happen. The hospice nurse, who is not employed by Brightview, called me on my way there to tell me that she walked in to check on her, but she had already passed away. Weeks after she passed, I got a partial refund since we prepay, but I did not get a statement, like I usually do each month. After I requested a final statement, they finally sent one to me with a $1,300 deduction. Again, I had to request additional information since they were being evasive, in my opinion. Finally, I heard back that it was to replace the carpet. I asked them why, because I had video evidence upon move out that the carpet was fine (aside from a stain that his staff likely caused, which he said was not the reason anyhow). Mr. Cooper, the director, told me that there were indelible furniture marks and hydraulic oil stains from the month that my mom had an electric hospital bed. I told him that I also had video evidence upon move in that had furniture marks. In regard to the hydraulic oil stains, if they were, in fact present, since they were not visible in my video-he told me that hydraulic oil is clear. I researched whether hydraulic oil could be removed from carpet and it can, but that was not done. Instead, they charged me $1,300 to replace approximately 150 square feet of carpet, which is very high, in my opinion. Maybe they don't have to follow Fairfax landlord/tenant laws since they're an assisted living facility, but if they did they are required to give me evidence of damages. Even though my video proves that I should not be charged for carpet replacement, Mr. Cooper wouldn't budge. I moved my mom here in May 2019 and have been pleased with how the place is run and how they care for my mom. I was moved her from a rehab hospital in NC and the staff were great at obtaining necessary info and ensuring a smooth transition. The majority of staff I've dealt with are great. When problems or issues arise, they respond appropriately. The place is only a few years old, so not a long waitlist when I got her in. The newer building is nice. Also nice they didn't require a lot of documents or financial records. read more

I can't more highly recommend BrightView. My father moved to BrightView in September to WellSpring Village (the memory care unit for people with memory problems). All of the people at BrightView are terrific, friendly, and helpful. From Shannon, the Executive Director, and Joanna, the Sales Director, to the Craig, the Food Services Director, to the housekeeping staff are friendly and helpful. They all go out of their way to make their residents and the resident's families feel welcome, important, and cared for and they make sure that all of their needs are met and exceeded. They took such great care of my father. The place is only a few years old so it looks like a hotel. The concierges that manage the front desk are so welcoming. If you are look at places for a loved one, check them out. You will be so happy that you did. read more

I moved my husband to Brightview Woodburn in September 2017. He had Parkinson's and dementia and was unable to walk. He was in Wellspring Village until he died in February 2018. I could not have asked for better care for him. The facility is very clean and well run. The staff is very professional, helpful and kind. The executive director, Shannon Yunn, is awesome, as are the nursing staff, food services people and the wonderful aides. There were many activities from stretching exercises to games, puzzles, bingo, etc. I could join him for dinner any time I was able. There were special events like a luncheon for Veterans Day when all the veterans were given a framed certificate thanking them for their service. And I could even bring the dog to visit. I could go on and on but in short, it is a wonderful and caring facility. read more
