Friendly and helpful staff. We purchased 2 vanities, 2 faucets and the and a shower head/handles from Bender and have been super pleased with them. We had visited both the older location and then newer location now directly across the street. The prices are...well..pricy, but that's because you are paying for quality. Actual quality, not Home Depot quality. I'm by no means bashing Home Depot, they are great for tons of things. As we were at Bender, we were even encourage to google Home Depot prices in comparison to Bender's and obviously Bender had cost more, but we were taught what aspects were different. Like prior to our Bender experience, I had no clue that specific items are "made for Home Depot" and are not the same exact items available for purchase elsewhere. The same goes for Lowes. Alright, now that I've gone off rambling about non-specifically related nonsense... All in all I'd totally recommend Bender if you want to do your home right. read more

I drive all the way to Hartford to look at the big showroom they have only to find my contractor said to go to the Hartford location and not the New Haven showroom. It was a simple mistake and should have been easily accommodating with their Reception and or Sales team. Instead they turned me away at the door and told me to drive to New Haven. I didn't have the time to do their addition drive. Since they couldn't make an adjustment to just look at the showroom while I was there, they just lost a very good client. For both a new bathroom and a new kitchen remodel. Thanks for the deplorable customer care Benders! I don't recommend this place to anyone!! I recently purchased kitchen cabinets and had one of their senior specialist design my kitchen. What a big mistake. Their inexperienced amateur "designer" designed my refrigerator area so that the fridge fits but the refrigerator door can't even be opened! It's been months now that I've been unable to use my fridge normally. Bender's solution "pull your fridge out until your door can open". Not to mention, their design is NOT BUILDING CODE COMPLIANT because they decided a 48" gas stove only 1" away from the drywall was a great idea. The minimum clearance is 6" from the wall. Now I'm stuck with 48" WOLF range hood, blowers, and duct cover that I can't return (around ~$4500 down the drain). I've been waiting 5 months for a 48" gas range ($13,000) that CAN'T BE USED because it's a fire hazard. My new kitchen also does NOT MEET BUILDING CODE because they neglected to even mention anything about air return requirements that also needs to be met and have to be installed in order to be up to code. I uploaded the kitchen bender designed to a site for professional design firms/architects for an outside opinion, and they all Laughed at how much of a failure this design was. They also urged me to get a lawyer to sue Bender for this mess. Bender is arguing their kitchen design is not responsible for all of the money I wasted and still have to waste because of their design failure. I now have to hire a competent kitchen design firm to try to reconfigure my cabinets, appliances, and also figure out what I can do about the matching countertop material that is NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I'm also thousands out and stuck with a designer range hood that no longer works. Bottom line, save your time and use a real design firm for your kitchen and bathroom renovations. This buffet service that Bender offers is going to cost you a lot more in terms of money and aggravation, they DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their faulty designs. Their slogan is "museum worthy remodels" but in actuality, you can't even trust them to design an area for a fridge, let alone your entire kitchen. Bender's response on the gas appliance being 1" away from the drywall is a combination of "it's not our fault, it's the contractor's fault" while at the same time trying to convince my building inspector that the design is fine. Building inspector said it would be fine if WOLF, the appliance manufacturer writes a letter that it's okay. The WOLF company declined to write such a letter. Since Bender is insisting that their design is fine, I asked them if they would assume responsibility in case of fire or anything else that arises from their installation. They did not agree to take any responsibility and continue to insist that it's totally safe to install the gas range 1" from the wall. "Turning your vision into a work of art is easier and more enjoyable when you work with Bender." -- There has been nothing enjoyable about working Bender. Their prices are high, the customer service is non-existent and they do not back up any of their work. My kitchen is certainly nothing close to a work of art, it's not even functional. I also definitely agree with all the other reviewers about trying to get help in the store, you're lucky if they even acknowledge that you're there. just visited Benders plumbing in New Haven after checking out their website which states Hours to be 10 am- 7 pm. arrived at 5 mins to 5. we were greeted by a receptionist who promptly told us that they were closed and we could not enter the showroom. our reply was initially surprise and confused as we very intentionally checked the website at 6 am this morning to find out how to plan our visit. after being told repeatedly we needed an appt. to be able to stay in the store with several other customers in sight shopping. website makes no mention of the necessity of appt. needless to say a much too curt greeting and dismissal of the fact the website stated open at 10, closed at 7. threceptionist corrected us not only about closing time but also that they actually open at 9. I will not shop here again for any plumbing needs in the future- we are opening a new business locally and thought they might be a good source for numerous plumbing purchases. A memorable and most unpleasant interaction for sure. Fortunately there are many other plumbing supply resources to shop and do business with. I suggest avoiding Benders. read more

Loved working with Stephanie and her crew at Benders New Haven for my renovation project! To say I had NO IDEA what I was getting into with my contractor is an understatement and I had SO many questions, with minimal knowledge of anything whatsoever! I made several trips just to stare at tile and fixtures because I wanted everything I saw and it was overwhelming for me ( because that is me ) . Stephanie and her team patiently and kindly helped me with selections of fixtures, tile, and vanities and had excellent suggestions from day one. They were AWESOME! Everyone there is totally knowledgeable about their area of expertise which was just great. Covid presented some challenges / delays with supplies but EVERYTHING IS HERE AND GORGEOUS!! I needed to purchase a kitchen sink faucet so I went to Bender Plumbing. What a mistake. I was greeted by a woman I told her what I needed. She asked for my name, and told me that I could browse the showroom, but noone would be able to sit down with me for quite a while. Again, I said I just wNt to make a purchase . She said well how would you pay for it? I don't do that . I could not understand why I had to sit down for a consultation, I was so infuriated that I left. I proceeded to WHITES PLUMBING IN WEST HAVEN and was greeted, a man was MORE than happy to help me pick put a KITCHEN FAUCET and I paid for it, $1,000.00. And left HAPPILY. This was our 2nd time at Bender's looking for a backsplash tile and the ladies in the tile department do NOT acknowledge or help you. They look down at their computers and talk amongst themselves. Horrible customer service in the tile department despite us pulling several tiles ourselves. We've had our ups and downs with inventory availability, but Bender, and our rep Christina, have really done their part to make this bathroom remodel as good an experience as I could ask for. We've had a lot of back and forths between contractors and suppliers, and Christina has consistently been helpful, accommodating and gracious. After previous good experiences with Bender, my husband and I were disappointed when we popped in there on a recent Saturday to shop for plumbing fixtures for a whole house renovation, only to be told there was no one available to help us, but we were welcome to browse. Naturally, we were disappointed as we were unaware that we needed an appointment, having popped in there less than a year ago and being helped by someone who answered all our questions. On this recent visit, we browsed on our own, and as we were doing so, we observed quite a few salespeople who were sitting at desks and not helping other customers. So, Bender will lose out on a sale of tens of thousands of dollars as we are taking our business elsewhere and purchasing from a company interested in helping us choose our fixtures for four bathrooms and a new kitchen. read more

CANNOT GIVE THIS ONE STAR.. WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN NOR RECOMMEND ANYONE TO DO SO. NEEDED TO RENOVATE PARENTS BATHROOM AS MY FATHER HAD A STROKE AND COULD NOT BATHE. Lined up contractor went to Benders..understand it was during covid and had to wait for salesperson which was not a problem but as we were waiting watched her get the phone call we were waiting she told receptionist she was not available right then and watched her on the computer for about 15 minutes until she took us. We chose the product we needed and was told it was in stock. Called contractor and set a date for him to do work. Found out 2 days later she looked at the wrong product and they did not have it..I got upset and was told "everyone makes mistakes"!!! as I said this was not a cosmetic renovation. Then got involved with Stephanie(manager)and another sales person who reassured me they would help. Told me they located the product in another facility and gave me a delivery date. Contacted my contractor yet again only to find out the day before delivery that they do NOT have the product. Then told they found it somewhere else but it would cost an additional $500. Well I had no choice. Gave Stephanie the date the contractor gave me and waited 2 weeks for the delivery(meanwhile my father still cannot bathe). Called on a Thursday and was told item on truck and leaving Georgia that day. Emailed Stephanie Monday and she told me she would check and get back to me.. she emailed me back on Tuesday and said the truck had not left Georgia.. Now I have to wait for this item and then wait for contractor to squeeze me in..who knows how long this will be.. Twice they told me they had a product and did not.. Terrible place to do business..I am stuck because of the time I have already put into this but will never ever ever recommend this company to anyone read more

No Service after the sale! I spent almost $30k remodeling my kitchen and 3 bathrooms with Bender. The cabinets and design were provided by the Wallinford store. They were great while the work was being done, but once completed they never called me back either. We went to the New Haven store to pick out fixtures for 3 bathrooms and 1 kitchen so it was a pretty big order. When is was delivered I found that the salesman had added towel racks and handles that "went with the design" we selected but we had not ordered. I sent them back and had the charges backed out. The big problem was when the plumber installed the toilet in the final bathroom. The toilet leaked after it was installed and did about $2000 worth of damage to my new kitchen floor and basement ceiling. The plumber said the part in the toilet was defective and we needed to file a claim with the manufacturer. When we called Bender all they did was give us the phone number of the toilet distributor. The part was sent back and the toilet manufacturer "tested" it and claimed it was not defective so they denied the claim. I couldn't get anyone from Bender to even return my call. If that's the kind of service you receive when you spend almost $30K, how much service do you think you're going get when all you buy is a faucet?? Go somewhere else. It cost me $2000 to learn that lesson. read more

There was a decent selection of bath faucets, but only a few vanities. Only one had pricing that we could find. We stayed for 10 minutes and no one came by to help us. We found just the tub we wanted at a better price than the discount stores. Visited the store today on east street with my wife.We were looking for countertops and backsplash tile and were directed upstairs were one gentlemen was there sitting at a desk.He never acknowledged us and we passed by his desk at least ten times bringing samples back and forth to different counter tops.At this point i went over to his desk and said could you help me with something.He said with what? I said tile.He said what kind of questions. He never got up from his chair and gave me an annoyed look like i was bothering him.Finally he got up and answered my wifes questions.If i was the owner of this company i would wonder what am i paying this guy for.The store was beautiful and had high quality displays but after dealing with this guy upstairs and basically getting the same thing from the girls in the tile department downstairs i would think twice about spending money there.We were the only customers in the store! read more

DO NOT use Bender for cabinetry. I know this is long but please read. I ordered $11,000 in cabinetry for a laundry room and 2 bath vanities. I worked with Kyong in the New Haven showroom who made mistakes on every order and has delayed my contruction project by months. When I complained to David Bender, the owner, he got angry and emailed me on Thanksgiving morning telling me and I quote, "Dealing with me was abhorant." Kyong incorrectly measured for cabinets in my laundry room which luckily was caught my my contractor. Upon delivery, one cabinet was not part of my order. Rather than contact the company and request a rush replacement, which she could have done, she reordered and I waited 4 weeks only to find she reordered the wrong cabinet. Again, she did not request a rush order and with holiday closing I had to wait 6 weeks for the correct cabinet so I complained to David Bender who got angry. I had two bath vanities waiting in Bender's warehouse and asked for delivery so I could inspect before my contractor was ready to install. I had used a credit card for all purchases including thousands more on the plumbing side. Bender refused delivery unless I paid cash or bank check. I took this to the CT state Attorney General's Office. It took 2 months but I finally won, Bender took my credit card, delivered the vanities only to discover Kyong had ordered the wrong cabinets for one bath and they were sent back. I kept the vanity for the other bath only to find out when the contractor went to install that Kyong had ordered the wrong filler pieces. I've had to work directly with the cabinet company and their rep and replacemnts are being shipped to another merchant since Bender will offer no support or communicate with me. It has been 7 months since the first incorrect cabinet piece arrived--a major delay to my renovation project that could have been greatly simplified had Kyong not made so many careless errors and had Bender provided any customer service. Again, I am warning you, do not use Kyong at Bender in New Haven for any cabinetry, no matter how simple. She is careless, makes too many mistakes, does not assume responsibility for her errors, and the most disturbing part is that her manager and David Bender, owner, back her up rather that provide customer service and timely resolutions to her errors. read more
