What a cool place. Came here when I needed a few screws that I didn't know if the big stores would carry. They made it super simple and the salesperson showed me exactly where they were. Much more simpler than walking down aisles and aisles in the big stores and spending time trying to find it. Every time I go to this store I am amazed at the level of customer service everyone has. You can tell they value their customers. The selection is vast and goes well beyond basic hardware items from Christmas decorations to Yetis to grills to candy. It seems like whenever to hear about a shortage of something on the news, you will find it at RW Hines! They also have a great selection of Cheshire items/gifts. The store is enormous! Biggest Ace that I've ever been in in three states. Where can you go that someone is standing at the door ready to help and assist you with what you came in the store for. called to ask about a Weber grill repair and got great service. They do not offer the service but called Weber customer service for me and got me the name of two places in CT. Can I just say Matt was awesome at RW Hine Ace. Matt called and then gave me the information. Now here is the shocker - I called Weber before I call RW Hine Ace and was told they don't offer any of that information. They can only trouble shoot your problem over the phone or send you instructions via email. Not good customer service from Weber but GREAT customer service from Matt at RW Hine Ace Hardware. I will have to stop in and meet Matt the next time I'm in Cheshire which is once a month. This is why I like using small local stores because the art of customer service is still 'in business' so to speak. LOL read more

I've been coming here for years and most of the time, they have what you need. Prices aren't bad considering it's not a big box and it's in Cheshire. What really impresses me is their selection of fasteners. You can find just about everything you need: SAE, metric, fine threads course thread, grade 8, springs, shear pins grease zerks....they have a lot! The store is rather large too. There's enough staff working to point you in the right direction. Some of the staff are a bit young, so they may have to call for backup if you have some more in depth questions. They refill propane and have a rental section for equipment, tents and party stuff. It's a really good one stop shop local hardware store. read more

I am giving this store one star for the sole reason that I recently discovered a cat lives in the store. I alerted the staff, thinking that it may have been a stray cat that snuck in and I was then informed it was the store's cat. I personally find cats dirty and off-putting. However, my aversion goes beyond my personal feelings because many other people have severe allergies to cats and I am sure they would not be happy to learn of a cat spreading dander over their products. If some people like cats and or other animals that's fine and their right to do so. Though in a place of business a cat or any other animal aside from an actual service dog (not including an emotional support pet) has no place. I am sure some people like the animal and think it's fun to interact with. However, not everyone likes cats and or other pets and many others have serious allergies to their fur, not to mention the cat is likely adulterating some of the food items in the store. If you like cats and it doesn't bother you that it freely roams the store, then it is a five star location based on selection and service. I however do not have an affinity for cats or animals in public stores or facilities, so, I will not be coming back to this location. People are continually pushing the boundaries with pets. I for one, representing many, believe everything has its place and a pets' place is in the home or a pet friendly park or a pet store and not in a hardware store. read more

If you like hardware shops beware. This one may give you an orgasm. I would prefer to visit this place than the larger stores. Always friendly and genuinely helpful and knowledgeable. They seem to have most things. Great selection of tools, able to advise wisely on paints (something larger stores often lack), and a decent loyalty program. read more

RW Hines is a local, go to spot for literally anything you need hardware wise. My father has been in the home remodeling business for over 38 years and always goes here, sometimes 3-4 x a week. We always find what we need, and when we need something that is not in the store they will order it and make sure. I never can walk 5-10 feet without a young associate asking me if I need help, which is always great. I like that they employ younger kids which usually is their first job ever- it is nice to see them hiring local high school students. I always have a good experience here. read more

I worked with Dave and Eric in the rental department to get some chairs, tables, and linens for a party I was having at my house. Whenever I talked to anyone on the phone, they were always professional and helpful. Even so, I did call around to see if there were any other places who had better prices (I originally was looking at getting a tent, too); there definitely were not, though! So with great prices and professional people, I made my reservation. When the day of my event arrived and delivery came that morning, there was a slight mix up, and I wasn't there to address it. As soon as I got home, I got in touch with Dave at the store and not only was he genuinely apologetic, but he had everything corrected within 30 minutes! I love R.W. Hine hardware store. Although I'm pretty sure it's an Ace Hardware store and not a True Value. They' re Yelp listing needs some work but they're retail operation is fantastic. I'll drive and extra 15 minutes just to patronize this store. It looks small from the road, but the store is pretty large and has a huge selection. I've bought small hardware there (found very random and specific fasteners, nuts and bolts), I've bought paint there (got a great recommendation from the paint manger to buy a special primer and paint because it was a specific job and the advice really paid off), and I rented a commercial wood chipper there that worked like a charm. It's at the top of my list for hardware sore shopping. read more

I may have purchased virtually every item that RW Hine sells over the past 44 years. I even purchased chain saws and lawn mowers when they were a True Value store. I know I can go to Home Depot or Loews, just a few miles further and find the items at a lower price, but Hines has always been my 1st choice. Last week I decided to purchase a new Ace 10 cu ft wheel barrow to replace my decade old Ace WB, but Hine only had the smaller units in stock. A female supervisor (unnamed) ordered it for me on a Friday and said it would be assembled and available for pick-up the following Thursday. I was at the store on Wednesday buying some hardware and noticed the blue tub of the WB I ordered was in the back area. I asked the supervisor If the WB could be only partially assembled so it would better fit in my SUV and could I have it in an hour, or later today. She said it was not possible for a variety of reasons and she didn't know when it would be ready the following day. Any person could put the WB together in 20 minutes. I elected to pay the $ 160 and take the tub and the box containing the wheels and brackets home and assemble it myself. I had some major projects that I needed the WB for. As I removed the wheels from the box, I noticed that one wheel had a V-shaped notch in the rim starting from the tire bead. I suspected it was a manufacturing defect probably caused when the tire was mounted to the rim. I knew that this would pose a air leaking problem as soon as I put a few hundred pounds in the WB. I returned the wheel and spoke with that same supervisor. When I showed it to her, she game me a look as though I did the damage, during assembly. She did not seem eager to replace my defective wheel. I requested a new wheel and she said she did not have a blue one in stock, but would have one tomorrow (Thursday). I told her I was in desperate need of a wheelbarrow. She made no effort to help me out in spite of the spare black wheels the store had in stock on the shelf. I then asked for my defective wheel back for temporary light use. I called the next day and the supervisor said my replacement wheel was not available. She said that a lot of paperwork would have to be filed and I had a useable wheel anyway. She said that because of the upcoming holiday, my replacement wheel would not be available until the following Friday. She made no effort to expedite the matter for me. I can say at this time that the RW Hine Ace Hardware store in Cheshire Ct is off my list. I'll travel the few extra miles to Home Depot and Lowes for my hardware needs and to Sears for Craftsman products. read more
