ALWAYS GO TO SARA!!!! I have been coming to the Benefit Brow Bar for almost 4 years! I usually see Sara C. or Julie. They are both so skilled, attentive to their client's needs, and so caring & friendly. I trust them both so much! I especially love Sara. She always does an outstanding job with my brow and lip. I wanted to write a review about a negative experience I had with Sophia to warn others. I needed my brows done before an event so I booked with an open slot - Sophia. 1) she looked at my brows and said "what's going on with your tails?" in a negative tone. I usually keep them full and just come in for touch ups/define and she recognized her tone was inappropriate. She apologized and I just closed my eyes. 2) BIGGEST ISSUE was her wax was WAY TOO HOT. She started by waxing my lip and I could feel my skin bubbling and it was painful (I've never experienced this before). I informed her "hey your wax is really hot" and she was like "oh I'll turn it down." She immediately moved on to my brows and immediately it was still hot, my skin was bubbling and red. I told her again I said "your wax is way too hot." I saw my skin in the mirror and it was bubbling and red!!! It was on fire! 3) OTHER ISSUE she took off my tails to the point they were so thin and so short and MY BROWS WERE SO UNEVEN. I couldn't even believe she could mess them up that much. When she put the mirror up I was like "okay" when internally and externally I was boiling. She probably could tell because our check out was so awkward. I wish I didn't tip her and I had a crash out crying breakdown after I left. I felt dramatic but they are my eyebrows! They were uneven, not how I like them, and my skin was bubbling red. I usually leave feeling beautiful and celebrated but I felt so disappointed. I will never return to Sophia. GO TO SARA! She always is so attentive and my brows are AMAZING every time. :) read more

Around a year ago I started to grow my eye brows out. I was one of those girls who looked like an over plucked chicken with pencil thin messed up brows! Now that I stopped plucking them myself and going here I look 98% better! The girls are rude over the phone and at the counter. I have waited over 30 minutes and watched a "regular" walk in in front of me. But, the girls that do brows here are all amazing. My first experience was with the blonde Tiffany and she was so nice and did phenomenal on my brows. She's the only one I can remember by name. But I've had 3 other girls do my brows and they all were awesome! They really take their time!!! When I get waxed here it lasts almost 2 months. Oh and tips girls...I bought Benefit's Browzings eye brow kit and I love it. It's a wax and powder they use to fill in and shape your brows when they wax. Tiffany completely ruined my eyebrows. My regular eyebrow threading lady only works on sundays & my eyebrows were in severe need of a reshaping, not to mention I had a job interview to get to later on that same day. So I looked up the highest rated eyebrow shaping/threading services & this place was one of the top results. After reading a series of great reviews about the brow bar & about Tiffany in specific, I felt like I could trust her with my eyebrows. When I got there I was expecting her to follow through with the appointment I had previously made the night before for eyebrow THREADING, but Tiffany insisted on letting her wax them instead, and convinced me by saying that If I didn't end up liking how she waxed them when she was done , then she would "do it my way" & thread them. I then made sure to show her at least 10 different pictures of me & how I liked my eyebrows , she tried ignoring the pictures I was showing her but I specifically made her stop & actually take a good long look at my picture so there would be no excuse for her to do them any other shape. I felt pretty confident after showing her the pictures and making sure she saw & under stood what I wanted. I really thought there was no way she could mess them up if she actually knew what she was doing. Well I was wrong . she completely disregarded my request of a high arched brow, even after the pictures & my annoying repetitive shaping requests! She literally completely disregarded my requests!!! I felt her mapping out my brow before she put on the wax which should I should have asked for the mirror before letting her continue but after I looked in the mirror & started crying , she told me "this is how I do everyone's eyebrows, I've never gotten any complaints before" .... ARE YOU SERIOUS! I Didn't want her to do my eyebrows how she "did everyone else's" :( I literally cried all my makeup off and in case your wondering , no I did not get the job , probably because It was obvious I had been crying before I got there & my sad attempt to fix my makeup after having runny mascara was almost impossible to fix without completely washing my face which I didn't have the time for. At least she offered me a free eyebrow pencil at first so i could in her words "just re-draw my entire eyebrows on the way I wanted them". Too bad I don't even know how to use an eyebrow pencil! My brows were so thick and perfect I never had to touch them when I did my makeup , now I didn't even know where to start! Fortunately she told me the service was free of charge because of how poorly she followed through with my initial appointment requests & instructions. Lastly, Right before the walk of shame back to my car, she tried putting the eyebrow pencil that she had just opened and used on my face back inside it's box & back on the shelf with the rest of the pencils like if I had forgotten that she ever offered it to me. I literally had to say "Um I thought you were giving that to me" for her to give it back to me. I honestly learned my lesson , the grass is not greener elsewhere! I will never betray my eyebrow lady again , I will be there every Sunday with a smile on my damn face & $20 tip! Tiffany literally only knows how to do ONE & ONLY ONE type of eyebrow shape. I have been going here for some time now and all the women are so awesome. Except for this last time I made my appointment at 5:20pm and was running about 3 mins behind. Keep in mind I am usually on time and the schedule is behind. So the one time I'm a running 3 mins late the woman at the front desk is on the phone. I wait patiently for her to get off the phone and she asks for my name. Zoey I respond. She cannot find my appointment, but I see my phone number. Apparently the woman that I scheduled the appointment heard Oey, which does not make any sense. However, I guess common sense is not required to work there. After she finds my name, she looks at her clock and then checks in with the other woman currently waxing someone in her chair. The woman in the chair was sitting in it when I walked in!!! The woman waxing says she cannot take me because she is off soon. The woman at the front desk tells me she cannot take me because I am 7 mins late. WHAT?!? It doesn't matter you took the prior customer before me and took my appointment! And excuse me I was not 7 mins late. Let's be honest I was 3 mins and even being 3 mins late, the woman being waxed had her eyebrows already waxed! So she clearly took her at 5:15!!! What poor poor customer service!!!! A huge lack of communication and poor management! I am not returning the Benefit AGAIN!!!! Horrible horrible experience get your customer service in check. read more

Great first experience! Jamie is a new and young esthetician. However, she is super sweet and AMAZING at color matching!!! I walked out with my brows looking great and some perfectly color matched foundation and brow pencil. As a former employee of Macy's (not this location) I know they're supposed to up sell but, I love it when I can hear the passion/knowledge when sales associates talk about their products. I had gone to benefit brow bar for a few years, sparingly though, as I was in Colorado going to college. I decided that before my wedding I had to get my brows done...DUH! so a month before I went ahead and booked an appt. so I had time to heal from the breakouts that always followed getting my brows waxed here. So there I am just getting my brows waxed when I start bleeding (strange). The lady doing my eyebrows, Meghan, I believe, decided to put her bare finger on my open bloody eyebrow. I didnt think anything of it at the time but when I woke up the next morning, my eye was swollen shut... ! whatttt. I was freaking out. I had a bridal shower that weekend and i could barely open my eye. I went to the dr. the next day. He gave me an antibiotic to take orally and cream to put on it.. 2 days later it was only worse so I went to another dr. only to find I was being rushed into a different room to have my face CUT OPEN!!!!!!! its about to get gross... Then the dr. pushed on my eye and over a tablespoon of pus comes out, later to find out it was MRSA!!! I had a black eye the next few days from him pushing so hard on my face and an obvious gash on my eyebrow! I had to keep it patched for 3 days- which was a loss of work time, because I was a kindergarten teacher and kids would be totally frightened by me! Anyway, benefit was very rude to me and promised me they would take care of it. Well, after their PR promised me makeup for my wedding and paying off all the bills i incurred from the dr. office I never heard back. MONTHS later she offered to pay for the med. bills but I had to sign saying that I wouldn't talk about this instance... excuse me. People need to know if your brow bar is giving them diseases that could be potentially fatal! Good thing I got taken care of before it spread to my eye! also, macys never returned my phone calls to this day! soo sad. Brow Mapping? The first time that I heard this term, my reaction was HUH? Now I completely understand! I had the opportunity to check out a Benefit Brow Bar in Hawaii. And LOVED it! They map your brows out based on points on your face. This helps ensure that your brows are being evenly waxed. San Diego's Benefit Brow Bar is a GREAT place! Megan, Tiffany and Lali map your brows and dang you look good afterwards. I have been going to this brow bar for months. Each time is a positive experience. The prices are fair. A brow wax is $20-note that they do accept tips, but since they are part of Macy's the cash registers do not let you tip on a card payment. So take cash for the tip. I had this happen once where I didn't have cash and thought NO PROB! I will just add the tip on my card. Ummm, wrong idea. I had to wander around the mall until I found an ATM and then I walked back to give Lali the tip. Kinda felt like a little kid without lunch money. LOL They take appointments. And YES they take walk-ins if they do not have someone already scheduled for an appointment. This place is worth checking out. I may regret spreading the word, as it may hinder me from getting appointments if this place becomes overbooked due to so many positive reviews! I used to come here all the time before Beverly left for maternity leave and eventually never came back. Every other person before Beverly at this brow bar I havent had a good experience. I went to some one else over at the Benefit Brow Bar in La Jolla for awhile until she started messing up my appointments and just not showing up. So i decided to give the Brow Bar at Fashion Valley another try. After using Yelp as a resource, I decided to book an appointment with Katrina. They told me I could choose between 5:00 or 7:40 appt times. I went with 7:40 to make sure I had plenty of time to get there after work. Plus gave me time for a little shopping. ;) I got there at 7:35 and no one was at the Brow Bar nor was there anyone at the Benefit Make Up station to complain to! Someone from a different make up station approached me and asked if I needed any help. I mentioned my appointment and told me all the estheticians left for the day!! She said the person at the make up station would be back in 5 minutes from the bathroom. I waited around and she took way longer than necessary (from the bathroom!!) so I shopped around. When I came back to find out what happened, aargh!! THREE THINGS: 1.) They didn't even schedule me with Katrina (who was off for the day). They scheduled me with a girl named Chancy. 2.) Chancy called in sick and was suppose to call everyone to reschedule. Whether it be her or someone else, SOMEONE should have called. 3.) The other girl on shift had left early. The hours show 10 am to 8 PM. At 7:35, there was no one. The TWO stars is ONLY because of Beverly who did an awesome job but is no longer with them. I was really excited to get my eyebrows waxed by benefit. I usually thread but I heard about their free benefit brow service on your birthday so I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately I do not remember the girls name that helped me out. She was really sweet but did not have a clue on what she was doing. She waxed my left eyebrow and plucked my right eyebrow. I was a bit confused on why she didn't waxed my right eyebrow. When at the end she showed me the results I knew why she decided to stop waxing, she completely waxed off my left eyebrow. Although she plucked my right eyebrow she left a lot of small hairs above the lid. I really like this place but in the time that I have been going, there has been a ridiculous amount of turnover. That results in the typical "Oh shit, what is this person's experience?" thought process as they stir the wax. Katrina took specific steps to measure and define the angles BEFORE she trimmed, waxed and plucked. When she was done, she did a light makeup touchup so I didn't walk out looking like an irritated red mess. Hello, brows? Awesome calling! I have faithfully threaded my eyebrows since 2006. After TWO horrendous, tear-inducing experiences at Beauty By Dolly, I decided to grow out my eyebrows for 3 weeks and take full advantage of Benefit's birthday brows. I had an appointment on a Sunday at 3:20. Btw, you can get your eyebrows done on the calendar week of your birthday. Otherwise, it's $20. Kelly listened to my sob story, talked about what I wanted, brow mapped me, and got to work. The results are amazing. She made my eyebrows slightly thicker, and she thinned it out upon request. I am so happy I got it done at Benefit, and I see myself becoming a regular. Things to note: 1. Tips are cash only!! Bring cash so you're not left feeling like a jerk when you realize you have no cash/nothing to tip -_- 2. The chairs are weird. They feel unstable. Idk, but I don't like it. I could see how some people might not fit in the chairs either. 3. There is little to no privacy. Not a deal breaker for me, but something to take into consideration. It's safe to say that I quit my quest for a threader in SD. I'll just save myself the trauma and go straight to Kelly at Benefit!! read more

I am at a loss on how to rate Benefit Brow Bar. My first visit with Alexis was life changing...my brows reached unfathomable rock star star status. The downside? A day or so later...I broke out all around my brows from the wax. I knew my skin was sensitive but didn't expect that. 6 weeks later, I scheduled with Alexis again. When I spoke with someone on the phone, they explained they had ways around my sensitivity to wax. Awesome. I get a call the day of my appointment that Alexis had to leave early. Boo. So I reschedule. I show up for my next appointment and it turns out that she had to leave early again. I didn't get a call this time but since I was there, I went with someone else. I explained my predicament regarding wax to the new esthetician insisted on plucking instead since I have such sparse brows. Which was fine...but the result after she trimmed them was a sad sight. I already have such sparse brows but coupled with excessive trimming... they looked practically bald. Which meant that I HAD to fill them in every single day after that. I didn't say anything because she had been so nice. I just was not happy with the results. Even my bf said something about how bare they looked. For him to notice my brows really goes to show how bad it was lol. As I am approaching the time to schedule an appointment to clean them up, I have no idea if I should give it another shot :( read more

She has a great sense of humor, gives you tips on how to maintain your eyebrow shape, and is very focused while working on your brows. I really appreciated all the effort she put in and was glad to have seen her during my visit. For eyebrows it was $20 and you can get your makeup done for free afterwards if you choose. I'm a regular at the benefit brow bar and usually they do great work, but the latest time I went the girl did not follow protocol and show me the shape before she started to wax therefore my end shape was something I did not want at all. I have naturally CRAZY thick bushwoman eyebrows, but the estheticians at the Benefit Brow Bar are always able to shape them into perfect, natural, classic beauty arches a la Kate Walsh (aka Addison Montgomery - she has perfect, classic eyebrows!) Since they specialize in brows you know you are getting the best brow service and shaping for your money (a pretty penny too - $16-20 ouch!). They are always able to get me in at the last minute (I would recommend making an appointment though) and are quick and thorough. I've never been disappointed. It's a little weird getting your eyebrows waxed in the middle of Macys, yes, but for the convenience (shop while you wait!) and service I can't and won't complain. I used to get my brows done at the Benefits bar in South Coast by Tam, and I always thought she was pretty good. I mean.. I thought she did my brows super skinny because I was to lazy to come back twice in a month. I was like wow, she knows me pretty well. Well... After coming to the brow bar in San Diego, I realized what good brows should really look like. They do a really good job in shaping brows, even mine (which are different on both sides.. DIY Brow Accident). The girl ( I forgot her name) was able to shape it so that you couldn't really tell the difference. I would make an appointment just to be on the safe side. Sometimes they're absolutely free, whereas there are times where you have to wait half a hour. The up'ed the price recently by $2.00, so i think brows are now $25 and brow and lips are $30. However, they also do temporary eye last extensions now, I haven't tried that yet but I'll let you guys know! read more

Omg my brows have never looked this good. It's all thanks to Meg and her amazing talent with brows. I felt comfortable as soon as i got there. All the girls made me feel like I belonged. When Meg sat me down she asked me about my brows and how I wanted them to look. She explained everything she was doing as she was doing it. Never once did the waxing or tweezing hurt and I have really sensitive skin. When it was over and looked in the mirror I was simply amazed at the job she had done.
