I recently moved to Little Italy and was looking for a new nail salon. So I booked an appointment with Mary based on the reviews. Unfortunately, after my experience, I found myself QUESTIONING WHETHER those REVIEWS were actually from customers or FROM FRIENDS and FAMILY just to promote this business and mislead the customers. Mary is sweet and nice, and I have nothing negative to say about her as a person. My experience with the actual manicure was very different from what I expected based on the reviews. The nails were extremely thick, the application was uneven, and there was a significant amount of space between the polish and my cuticles. I pointed out the excessive thickness during the appointment. Mary just wiped them down one more time, smiled, and left them essentially the same. The photos I'm posting were taken the same day, immediately after I got the manicure. This is how the nails looked when I left the salon (!!!) not after several days of wear. The timing made it even more frustrating because I got my nails done on Friday, right before my birthday. By Sunday, just two days later, I had to find another salon and pay again to have the entire set redone. I'm also including photos of what my nails looked like after I had the manicure from Italy Nails & Spa completely redone by another nail technician. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would NOT recommend Italy Nails & Spa for a manicure. I understand that everyone has different preferences and standards when it comes to nail care and manicure. However, if you expect a clean and nicely finished manicure, I don't think Italy Nails & Spa is likely to meet your expectations. read more

I showed up as soon as doors opened and also made a last minute online appointment just incase. There was a bit of a language barrier but I figured well I'm showing her a video of what I want-- I've requested for nude chrome gel nails however, I'm not sure how I received nude gel nails with an up charge of pearlescent powder. When my nail technician completed my manicure, she announced, "same!" as if she declared out-loud my powdered pearlescent nails are now magically transformed into the requested nude chrome color. I wish they would've told me upfront that this cannot be done. I would not request for anything out of the basic mani pedi here. read more

I wish I lived closer! Came here while on a trip almost a month ago and as I'm booking an appointment for my local place, I'm noticing my mani-pedi from Italy Nails is looking solid (except for growth obviously). No chips or anything, they really did a great job. Only reason I'm not giving five stars is because the chairs weren't terribly comfortable, my butt and back hurt by the end of the appointment but the work they did was great and the employees were very nice read more

Came here last minute for a manicure. I'm not one who likes to get my nails done often due to never leaving fully satisfied (im really picky). I often see this spot on my walks and decided to give them a shot. Moon was my nail tech and she did a phenomenal job! I showed her my inspo pic and she gave me exactly what I showed her. Called about 20 minutes ahead of walking in and they said they could take my mom and I on a Saturday afternoon. My mom was getting a pedicure and I was getting gel x with design and a pedicure. They were pretty busy but they took us right away, which we appreciated! My gel x manicure was great! Jason did an awesome job with the design and the gel x manicure portion probably took about an hour, so pretty quick! The price was also very reasonable for gel x with design so will definitely come back for another manicure with design. The only small feedback is the women doing our toes cut both my mom and I's a little bit and my mom had a blister she asked them to avoid but they didn't, so would recommend to ask them to be a bit more gentle as it was a little too rough, but overall they are very friendly and I would come back again! read more

This is what I get for being desperate! My usual salon screwed up my scheduled appt so I decided to find somewhere on my way home. Bad idea. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes just for her to remove about 80% of my poly gel and then give me a very poorly done gel manicure. The whole experience felt like an SNL skit -- she kept grabbing random tools, doing something to one hand, then switching to the other, without any clear process. She charged me for the poly gel removal, but even then she didn't finish the job. The filing was uneven, the polish didn't cover my whole nails, and she repeatedly went back to refile or trim individual nails. When I told her the removal was burning, she said I was "sensitive" and had "thin nails." Instead of properly removing the poly gel, she hand-filed most of it off while barely dipping my other fingers in a tiny ramekin of acetone (about the size of a ketchup cup). When I asked about using foil, she said she would "do it this way and take her time." Overall, the service was frustrating, unprofessional, and not worth the charge. read more

Paid $200+ for a full acrylic set on my hands and feet, and my nails lasted less than 2 weeks. I probably had it done a week and a half ago and I have 4 nails from my hands gone, and 3 nails from my toes gone. My nails normally last 4-5 weeks before any pop off. She was finished in under 25 minutes, sloppy application of polish, didn't file nails after clipping leaving ragged edges, cuticles not clipped or scaled. First of all, I had fungus overtake a third of my big toe after I had been getting my pedicures there every month for over a year. My second toe was also somewhat affected by the fungus. This has never happened to me before. This would have taken months to spread this much. I never saw my toes unpainted because I never removed the polish myself until one day I happened to and was shocked. This salon didn't bother to notice or communicate every time I got a pedicure there that this was happening. (The picture I posted was taken a month after I first noticed the fungus and had cut my nail down so it was somewhat regrown and repainted by then.) I don't know what caused the fungus. Again this has never happened to me and I have very good hygiene practices but it's of course quite possible their practices may have caused this. Regardless, either no one bothered to notice this or tell me for months while this was developing. And it was immediately very apparent to me once I had removed my own polish. Furthermore I was always rushed to pick a color when I would go in. They would constantly ask me "are you ready? Are you ready?" They always insist I pick a color from a book while I am sitting for my pedicure. But then I can only see maybe a fifth of the colors they have. I only get my nails done once a month and I am particular so I want to make sure I am happy with what I choose. I am not late for an appointment because I always just walk in so I don't see why they feel the need to rush me. It's happened so much that the last time I went in there I specifically said that I needed time to pick my color and I did not want to be rushed. But still I got repeatedly asked if I was ready multiple times. I will definitely never return. read more

Not sure why anyone goes here? The place looks dirty once inside--first impressions. Steady stream of business so not sure why. That was red flag # 1. #2: The back ground or ambience sound on the tv was far from relaxing. Any Kind of Music is the norm. Instead it was someone walking/filming the streets of a downtown city--in Asia somewhere? Place unknown. Location doesn't matter--it was distracting and loud. Filming a pot boiling and someone stirring loudly kind of sucks. People all over the city talking and traffic sounds. Very Odd overall. Downtown San Diego is noisy enough. Not sure why you want to hear more loud sounds while relaxing. #3: back to cleanliness. The tools used on my feet did NOT come from a sterile sealed packet! I should have said something! I finished my toes and left. Then the tools used got knocked off the dirty cart onto the floor. They were picked back up and put back in the cart. Feel sorry for the next person. Gross! #4: being charge extra if pay by card. Which is insane because the service is by far way below standards. What do I mean...? Leg Massage--was literally 2 seconds on each side. I pay less in my hometown and get at least 8 mins on each leg. Warm towel wrap....the towel has stains. Hopefully washed! Upon removing towel,, my leg was damp still. However she proceeded to pull my pant leg down and now my pants are damp and wet too. They are clearly turning chairs/people faster than I have ever seen. Such a disservice. For a quick quack pedicure, I should have paid $25! Instead of $57! Never go here. read more

Most nail techs here are great but I did get one person who started putting gel on my toes once despite me reminding them I couldn't get gel. I always stick with Ken and its been smooth sailing ever since. I also had my nails grow soooo long with him and using just dip powder. My go to techs would be any of the guys especially Ken, Lucas, Tom and the other gentleman with glasses (I never got his service but he always knows what he's doing).

I had not used it, but I also didn't have the original receipt when it was purchased. After some back and forth, they swiped it again and somehow found that card and were able to charge it. I didn't use the entire balance so I saved the GC. I went back to use the remaining balance and surprise surprise they couldn't find it in their system. Again it said it was not a valid gift card. The woman at the front desk insisted this meant that I used all the funds and there was no balance remaining even after explaining what happened prior and asking her to try again. She kept insisting so I asked her to show me the starting balance and charges on it. She couldn't see any transaction only that the card is not valid. She said either the card never had money put onto it (impossible since I used it prior) or I had used the remaining balance (I know for a fact there was money left, I would have thrown the card away if it was empty). The woman at the front desk was very rude and would not try swiping the card again or doing any troubleshooting. This seems like a recurring issue with their system and I'm just out $40 because it's stuck on a gift card that isn't recognized by their system. Very disappointing. I will not be coming back here and recommend others avoid it too.

I've been coming to Italy Nails since just about a year ago, when I moved into a new apartment across the street. I wasn't sure what to expect coming in for my first appointment, as I was disappointed in my own nails and how gel never seemed to last more than 5 or so days. I came in with intentions to try acrylics, and Jen (the manager) told me about dip manicures, so i gave it a try. I am so thankful she did because I finally feel like I can have cute nails that last! I just went in again this evening, and not only do my nails look perfect for the holidays, but my conversation with Jen was so nice. It makes such a big difference when you can feel that a business REALLY cares about their work and their clients. I've seen a few negative reviews recently, all from clients who didn't have an appointment....I understand last minute things come up, but it doesn't make any sense to me if you know you need your nails done, why would you not call in to make an appointment? To be honest I think I'd had waited to long to give this place a five star I think they deserved a 10 start if I can give them. I been coming here for almost 3 yrs now. Every time I came in they Treated me like a family and very friendly. There work is always on pointed, of course if you don't have an appointment you differently have to wait, because they get really busy is best to call for appointments.
