Great, old school, pizzeria! We happened upon this place when the first restaurant we stopped at in Hood River had stopped making pizzas (which was the majority of their menu) due to the hot temps. We called Beneventi's and they confirmed they were open and pizzas were available! The server was super friendly and their food was delicious. I appreciate the manager reaching out to me via Yelp for me to give him another chance, I felt obligated and that maybe the only 2 times I've eaten there I just had bad luck. Rather than take him up on the offer of "refunding my money" or "comping" me, I decided to just call and be any other customer so that I can see if they've really changed or if they're spoiling me since I left an honest (not so great review). Aaaaaaaand BUMMER. Same thing as last time, I swear. Please train your staff to be patient, even on a busy night. I know that customer service isn't always the greatest job however if you have that job, I believe proper training is needed. Your staff should not make me feel stupid or like a "yuppie" (which the tall blond girl whispered to her coworker about me I'm sure) because I need gluten free crust for my Celiac Disease. The staff is a joke. The food was decent, but again, for a 1 topping pizza (that is a standard gluten free size-mediumish), I should not have to pay almost $30. Sorry, but you bombed your 3rd chance too. I'd rather go thru all the trouble of making my own then trying this place a 4th time. read more

My current home of Boston is terrible for pizza. It really doesn't want to give New York any credit and uses that mindset as an excuse to make terrible, oily pizza in pans. Thus, when I come out 3,000 miles, go on a day trip to the Gorge and find great pizza in a mill town, I get incredibly depressed. Beneventi's looks like an '80s to mid-'90s pizza place in the NY or NJ suburbs, and that's a high compliment. Red, bottomless tumblers of soda, a lunch buffet, a salad bar, an actual arcade in back for the kids... and pizza and meatball sandwiches made the right way. My cousin pointed me toward the calzone, which she said was hard to find in the NW. If that's the case, the entire NW should have the calzone here. We sat in a booth by the window for more than an hour watching the train go by, having beers and eating great pizza and apps. It's an amazing little place that I won't forget anytime soon. read more

This was the meet up spot for our group of 7 and we all settled on the lunch buffet. Why? Because it made good financial sense that's why. @ $11 including tax it was less expensive than any ala cart menu item. And there were lots of choices. I like choices! Here's what's included: Pizza- great crust and lots of toppings, Nice variety of pies are rotated through the lunch hour 40 item salad bar- fresh crisp greens and veggies. The salad alone was worth the price of admission. Fried chicken- started out awesome with a crunchy house breaded panko exterior but the inside was a buzz kill with gummy chicken skin and stringy meat- so much potential that ended up so off-putting. The Hubs tried a leg from a fresh batch -same deal. Jo Jo potatoes- Loved! Everything you could hope for- well seasoned & crispy. Home made soup- Tortellini, sausage, veggies. Wonderful. Not only was the soup made in house so is the sausage and it was delicious. Pot stickers- whether these were from a bag or house made it didn't matter-Very yummy! Cooked to perfection with some fried crunch to the outside and tender goodness inside. Unlimited ice tea/ soda This was a super busy place for a Wednesday but the service was friendly, plates were taken away quickly and drinks refilled as needed. Well done Beneventis! The place was filthy. Flies buzzing around the soda fountain and a ton of fries on the ground by our table. The waitress didn't come to take our order and copped and attitude when I had to order at the counter. I am absolutely amazed that this place has 4 stars. Try at your own risk. But wait there's more! The disgruntled waitress just informed me that they are out of sausage... On a Thursday at 7:40, after I already paid. Yeah, like others said, it IS a family place. Owners and management are always nice. I go several times a week. Great for the kids, great without the kids (just don't sit in the 'kids' area' if you want peace and quite). I love the Sausage Grinder (they make their own sausage) as well as their Chicken Enchilada Pizza. Just had a sausage & peperoni pizza delivered to my house, too, and it was superb! Holy tasty French fries Batman!! Seriously, the fries are amazing. Boyfriend and I split a supreme sandwich. It was tasty... but those French fries. My mouth is watering thinking of them!! I noticed they offer several sizes of pizzas. Even a little "personal pan" size. You don't see that in many pizza places anymore. They also offer take and bake pizza. This my friends, is pretty sweet! (I hear their pizza is pretty delicious). I didn't try to salad bar, but it looked clean and pretty average. I will say that the floor could use come vacuuming/sweeping. We were in here on a slow, cold Sunday evening and floor seemed a little messy for how slow they were. Noticed some old French fries (why would anyone drop their fried and let them go to waste like this? I almost don't blame the staff, I blame the customer.) and napkins laying around under tables. It's not a deal breaker, but certainly something that stuck in my mind. Also fair to note; this pizza place is seriously lacking on the video games. What a great find on the beautiful Hwy 14 drive. Terrific pizza buffet (see veggie pizza photo attached.) They will make a pizza for you upon request. Also a great little salad bar (see pic). Best Pizza This Side of NYC. I am originally from Washington but have since moved away and each summer I go back once or twice to fish. Ever time I am in the area I go to Beneventi's Pizza. It is AMAZING!!!! In particular, the cheesy sticks and the Beneventi are the best things on the menu. A great find in the Gorge. It's one of those Italian-American family owned kind of places you see all over the east coast, the kind of place that's a dime-a-dozen in the 'burbs of New Jersey, Philly, etc. but rare here in the NW [Abbodanza in Seattle is a lot like this; see my review on it]. It's not upscale or hipster; you're getting doughy cheese-and-tomato heavy calzone and pizza--tasty and filling, very 'southern' Italian family-style. I got a personal size pizza and Caesar salad to go on a saturday night. They had several people working- maybe 7 in the small kitchen alone. Service wasnt good- seemed annoyed that I came inside and stood at counter to pay for my to go order. Then they were really unorganized with other orders. When we grabbed some plates full we seen someone (maybe owner) put his grubby hands into the olives and just start grazing on them it put a fowl taste in our mouths to say the least. They make all kinds of delicious pizzas. They have the biggest salad bar I've ever seen. The people working were very friendly. Last night while driving through the Gorge we spotted this darling restaurant and were immediately met with the great smells within. Maybe it was an off night for this laid back place or new staff but the service was not good. They seemed to be confused. We ordered a Caesar salad, pizza, fettuccine and 2 coffees. It took a long time. The salad and fettuccine were great but the pizza had way too much red sauce for our taste. We asked for coffee refills but got none and we had to ask for containers and the bill at the front desk. The man checking us out was excellent and organized but the girls were not. What a slice of heaven! Pizza always tastes delicious (though a sturdier crust would benefit them), staff is nice and patient, and the salad bar is to die for when its open. This is the second time ive been here and have enjoyed it each time. Both times the boyfriend and I have shared a large pizza and always have leftover to take home. "Yo paulie" is amazing. Crust is thin and baked nice and crisp. He also ordered "the supreme" grinder which he said was veryyyy good. I got their salad bar that had many different salad topping varieties. Staff seems to be all young high schoolers but are always very polite. The little complain i do have is the salad bar is not unlimited unless you buy "the buffet" as to which i didn't want everything else just the salad.. read more

This is a place where I can enjoy my meal while the twins play. They have an awesome play area, some of the arcade machines are out of order this year, but the twins still don't know how to use them anyways, so it doesn't matter. The food is good, nothing spectacular, but great for Bingen, I will come here over Solstice in a heartbeat. I had a spinach calzone and my husband had the mexican pizza. The small calzone was huge. The twins had spaghetti with marinara. We also did the salad bar, which is pretty good. Overall, is a great restaurant to go with kids. read more

Picked up pizza from here on our first night staying in Hood River. The pizza was very solid. Good sauce and cheese. The crust was just the right thickness. Not too thin or too thick. What really made the $2 toll back and forth across the bridge worth it though was the wings - deep fried but really juicy and delicious. Their Going Green pizza is really tasty and just full of veggies including broccoli. Delivery is usually fast, so we love ordering from here when we feel too lazy to cook but hope for something that feels at least slightly healthy. A small is more than plenty for two people. Have never eaten inside, but the hostess is always quite friendly whenever we call in or pick-up. The interior seems typical of an older place around here... could use some upgrades but that doesn't matter. Things are kept clean and the place is cozy. A well run local business. read more

The customer service here was amazing! I ate here with my family Sunday night and after our meal they fixed us a special dessert for no other reason except they knew we wanted dessert and all they had was ice cream. The dessert was a calzone stuffed with apples, seasoned with cinnamon and topped with ice cream. It was so good, and thoughtful. The pizza, salad and sandwich were good too.
