I was on a cross country road trip and started hearing some new rattling from under the car. I came to this place and they let me wait until they had an opening to check it out that day. After a check out, they assured me that it was totally safe and didn't charge me! What totally honest service! These guys ROCK. I am from out of town, and my Toyota had some work on it prior to getting to Bangor. The hose had not been clamped after they did the work and after the 4th start the hose popped off. No big deal, reconnected the hose put the clamp on, added fluid and tada, we are off. Then the pump started squawking. I figured I may have run it too long being dry or who knows what. I "Googled" Bennett Auto Center and figured what the hell, gotta take it somewhere. I explained to them what had happened and that I figured I didn't bleed it, so maybe it was air? Charlie said he would look at it. He came back and said, "Well, I bled it out and it is still making racket, I am assuming the pump is gone". I agreed. He scheduled me for the next day and I dropped it off. When I returned Charlie came out and said, "Hey, think we fixed it without the new pump". I was flabbergasted. He went on to say that the senior tech noticed that one of the hoses was cut too long and that it was kinked. They cut it shorter and walla! no more squawking... The cost? $70.00 versus $460.00... I was elated... and grateful. They could easily have just replaced the pump and called it good. Instead? They checked it out and saved me a small fortune. Honest work at an honest price. I was looking for some new tires for my Jeep. Charlie was extremely knowledgeable about tires and was not about to up sell me something I didn't need. He genuinely cared about the kind of driving I would be doing, how I liked my previous tires and my budget. I ended up with some good tires I would have came across in my online search at an awesome price. The tires were installed minutes after my appointment time-- how often does that happen? There are stigmas out there that mechanics and auto repair businesses like to rip you off, are difficult to communicate with, and/or may be even too selfish; this place defies any negative stigma. They were honest, reliable, informative, personable, and great after the work was done. Here is my story: I was in Bangor the night before I needed to pick my grandmother up from the airport. When I started my car, it went wild (overheating, difficulty shifting gears, etc). I waited to look at it in the morning, and when I did, same story as the night before. Having only two hours before I had to pick up my grandmother and then drive 70 miles home, I found Bennett Auto on Yelp. They told me to come right over, they got me in, made sure all mechanics hustled to get me out in time to get my grandmother, and fixed everything without any problems. They were fair and inexpensive with their price and could have charged me much more because of my desperation. I live 70 miles away, but will be driving to them to do any work for me moving forward. All the positive reviews of Bennett Auto Center are correct. I travel for work and I travel by myself. I take my car in for a tune-up and look-over before I leave a job site to ensure I get to the next one safely. I took my 2007 Mazda3 in to a Firestone and was told I had a bad CV joint, but I drove across the country to Maine anyway because my car didn't exhibit any symptoms of a bad CV joint. I took my car in to Bennett 2 weeks or so before I left Bangor to head to Texas. They changed my oil and paid special attention to my CV joints when they looked the car over. They didn't see anything wrong. They could've taken advantage of my already having been told that I needed to fix something, but they were honest and even encouraged me to bring my car back a little closer to my departure date for another complimentary inspection. This is the best place. I was passing through Bangor the Wednesday before thanksgiving and had an issue with my car hearing a scraping dragging noise. I needed to drive on to Fredericton,NB that day. When I called they had no appointments. Were very busy with putting snow tires on many cars. Charlie had me bring car in and fit me in. After checking vehicle he found a piece of metal was stcununder car. He removed it. Assured me car was fine to drive. There was no charge. I was so very gratedful to know car was drivable. I sat in waiting room for car I observed Charlie helping many people coming in for advice on snow tires. He was patient and helpful to all. In all fairness, I used the "Contact Form" on their webpage to give Bennett an opportunity to explain. It has been over a week with NO response so, time for my review. Here is what I sent: Part of me wants to just post a bad review. Largely, because positive reviews are what my daughter used to select your business. I will give the owner the option to touch base with me first. She visited on 5/20 and her slip shows Dan wrote her up for needing ball joints. Invoice #235202. She texted me with the diagnosis and, while I can do the work, I suggested she go with that estimate if the alignment was thrown in. I am glad you folks turned that down. When I started the job, I noted zero play in the joints but the brake pads were really close to needing replaced. In fact, the worst was around 3/32 and the best was 5/32. I know, that is passing for State Inspection. But, you do not tell the customer your vehicle is in "Great shape other than the ball joints." if the brakes will need replacing. I immediately went and bought new pads and installed them and suggested she take the vehicle to Sullivan's. They backed up my assertion that the ball joints are fine. They did a full State Inspection, aligned it and told me that there was "No problem with the front end" and, "...the underside of the vehicle was in really great shape." So, my concern here, is not just the fact that your garage wanted to replace parts that are not worn, but that your garage would not even mention the worn brakes. It leaves me wondering if my daughter was going to be encouraged to also pay for brakes once the tech had things apart. I anxiously await your response before submitting my review online. I am even happy to bring the worn pads to your shop. ---There you have it. That is my review. If it could be less than one star, it would be. The State Inspection requires at least 2/32 of brake pad (2mm). That is about two credit cards...pretty thin when compared to a new pad that is almost 1/2 inch thick (12mm). --- read more

In town on a job, my truck U joint was shot. Checked Yelp and found Bennett Auto. Dropped by, they took my truck in within 2 min checked it over, and Dan the mechanic took me under the truck to show me the issue, and a few recommendations to fix in the future. Had a jingling sound coming from the pulley/belt area. Mechanic looked at it on three separate occasions but couldn't pinpoint it. Did say the belt needed to be "hand tensioned" from here on out. Nevermind the fact that the car has a tensioner and never needing to be manually adjusted before. Finally had another mechanic in town look at it. They too couldn't pinpoint the jingling sound but at least they didn't attempt to convince me to bring it in for manual tension adjustment and lubrication every month or so. read more

Traveling far from home, when the check engine light came on, I panicked. I used Yelp to lead me to Bennett's, and boy, am I glad I did. From the comfortable waiting room, the immaculate luxury restrooms, and the friendly mechanics, I knew I made the right choice. I needed a new thermostat, and Charlie initially thought that he wouldnt be able to do it today. Thankfully, he rearranged his schedule to install it today, knowing that we were on vacation. We moved here two years ago from NC. We had a great family owned shop there that we could trust. We were hoping when we moved here we would find someone similar. Bennett's Auto has far exceeded our expectations. Tom and his staff are wonderful. We feel completely comfortable with their expertise and workmanship. Preparing for a cross country road trip, I brought my Chrysler van for an oil change to Bennett's. The battery had been failing and I asked them to check it. He handed me the report and said the battery wasn't holding the charge. I just wanted him to put a new battery in and call it good. He looked at the 2 year age, and recommended I try to make good on the warranty. INSTEAD of selling me another battery. I went to autoZone, they made good on the warranty and I drove away happy. I know mechanics who would have just sold me a new battery, kept the core and sold it, and Take advantage. I trust these people. While I waited for the auto, they are inundated with calls and are always kind, courteous, and professional. What a gem of a full service auto repair. AND I found them on YELP! Love it! read more

About $90 an hour!! Outrageous! I tried for an inspection after doing all struts, tires, brakes and what ever needed fixing on my 1999 civic. The customer service was TOO good. I was not charged for a "inspection failure". Although, I was quoted about $400 + to get my control arm and ball joint fixed on my drivers side. MORE MONEY? My car passed inspection elsewhere. Bennett Auto is OVERPRICED by almost double. And appear to be crooked enough to get customers looking for a simple inspection. I was not shown the disability of my car that had it fail. I.e. the shaking of my tire that "they say" requires a ball joint that would make my tire shake a small amount. The other mechanic said there wasn't any shaking. LOOK ELSEWHERE! Not sure how crooked they are, but not trustworthy. Thank god for these sites or all crooked mechanics will get away w/ murder by cheating customers forever. Thank you Yelp.
