Had a tub to shower remodel of our very small bathroom. Crew arrived Monday for demo. Work went well at first but then got more and more disjointed. Thursday arrived with significant work left to be done with Friday deadline. Work was rushed from then on and the end result showed it. Paint job was terrible. Tile floor was also cobbed. Much other evidence of hurry up and finish attitude. Issues were addressed a week later after several calls and waiting around for work to be completed again. Overall a very stressful , inconvenient and unimpressive experience. Felt our little job wasn't a priority . Would not recommend this company as they seem to have too much work to handle with reliable, satisfactory work for every job taken on. read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! I originally decided to work with McDonald Construction for an interior remodel including new layout of kitchen, bathroom, and dining room, because I was impressed with the time Jeff (owner) took with me during the estimate process and I liked his attention to detail. However when the job started I didn't realize Jeff wouldn't be involved much at all. Instead the Foreman running the job didn't share the same values as Jeff, He is actually a complete HACK and I would never let him in my home again. Jeff's price was by far not the cheapest but I thought it would be worth it for a job well done. Instead all the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC was done by the foreman who clearly has no business to be in that line of work. It was all done incorrectly, with many shortcuts taken. He also lied and cheated his way through every inspection process that clearly needed to be done. After many missed deadlines, a job that was estimated to take 8 weeks was stretched to over 20 weeks where I was finally forced to remove this company from the job and spend more time and money finishing with other contractors. After just a few short months I am already having issues with the work McDonald Construction performed. read more

I hired McDonald's Construction and Design in July 2025 to install a new tub surround and perform some exterior painting maintenance. Unfortunately, there were quality issues from the very beginning. the work was poorly supervised, and in my opinion, the workers lacked the necessary experience to complete the tasks properly. My husband was a contractor, so I'm familiar with what quality workmanship should look like. The painting was sloppy and unprofessional, and they had to redo some things several times. As for the tub surround, I had to call them back three times to fix the caulking. Now, just two months after completion (September 2025), the caulking is cracking and already needs replaced. I feel like I paid top dollar expecting professional results, but unfortunately, that's not what I received. I wish I could include photos to show the lack of quality work done. Wanted to re-do two showers and contracted with McDonald Const to do work. There was a delay getting going as they were backed up with jobs and some other issues but we weren't in any hurry so we were ok with that. Easy to work with, responsive, worked non-stop once they started, including weekends, and we ended up with two new beautiful showers. We felt the price for the work to be done was reasonable. It's difficult finding contractors in our area. I found this company while specifically looking for contractors for Albany. I was so glad to get a call quickly. I was then told "We don't work in your area." No explanation. Yet both the contractors we site, yelp and Google service all indicate they do. Very disappointing. read more

He was prompt and professional in responding to our messages during the quoting and planning phase, which is why we chose to work with him over other contractors. His team came in and refinished our hardwood floors in only 1.5 days, with minimal dust for us to clean up after. We're hoping to work with Jeff in other bigger projects for our house! read more

There aren't enough words to say about Jeff Mcdonald and his talented, hardworking team. We hired Jeff's company to renovate two bathrooms. We explained to Jeff, that we had heard horror stories about companies that started projects and left halfway through, leaving the projects uncompleted. Jeff reassured us that once his team started a project they would not leave until it was finished and that is exactly what happened. We had the good fortune to have Andy and Mark work on our project. They were both trusting and very hardworking. They came early in the morning and didn't stop until late in the afternoon. If there was something small that needed to be done, they were ready,willing and able to help. I felt like they were family and I was very sad when they finished. Completely baffled that someone would not work in an area due assumptions and speculation. Could care less about where you live and your opinion...there are valid reasons to not work in an area...like...there are no properties in the area to work on. But when there homes and properties being bought, flipped and sold, and you have the audacity to speak on a area being bad or good is ridiculous. We were extremely happy with this company. We had two bathrooms fully renovated and are thrilled with the results. Due to the Covid demand spike and labor capacity issues it took many months between the contract and the work to begin, but this was not their fault at all! Once the work began they showed up every day and worked all day. No 3 hour days and definitely no "tear out and disappear" with this contractor. They stick to the job until it's finished. Quality of the work was excellent and any small issues were taken care of immediately. I had a few issues with some items I purchased through the mail and Jeff and his team took care of getting me replacements locally and keeping the job moving. Communication was also excellent. Can't say enough positive about this team. They are my contractor for life! read more

I can't recommend working with Jeff and his team more! We have worked with a number of contractors and we have many bad stories to tell. However, with Jeff, everything worked out great. He really stands behind his work. Tiling, painting, countertop, plumbing, all was done to our satisfaction. If you find an issue, even tiny, Jeff will have it fixed with a smile.  On top of that, all is done on time and "as promised". read more

Jeff was rude and dismissive of my family members. His foreman was sexist and made a number of offensive comments; as well as smoked cigarettes all day instead of overseeing the work being done. Worst paint job ever.. even though according to Jeff, "any idiot can paint" - guess not . 2 week project turned into 2 1/2 months of hell. read more
