I stopped by Ben's on 4th today to see if they had Minden Mill single malt. I couldn't find it, so I asked a gentleman named Jim if they had it. He showed me where it was, and I told him that I've been waiting years for it. (Look up Bently Heritage distillery, which was purchased by the guy who owns Foley Wines and the LV Golden Knights and renamed Minden Mill.) We had the best conversation about the distillery, the single malt, and Reno back in the day. Not enough people like Jim in the world. People like Jim will make me return again and again. read more

I am a Veteran. Several months back I said I was disappointed that the 10% discount did not apply to beer. I got a nice response back (which I which I had saved) saying they Ben's would honor the discount on beer for Veterans. I made purchases in November and December. The cashier was happy to give me the discount. I was in the same store yesterday, Jan 12, 2024. I bought two six packs of beer. When I share with the cashier that I had sent a review previously and stated that they would honor the discount for beer purchases. Stated I have made previous purchases of beer at this Ben's and the discount was honored. He empathically said NO! "Our beer prices are already discounted". I said thanks and said I will go to Total Wine for all my beverages. They offer a Veteran discount sever days a week. read more

I'm a fan of Ben's. They've got a pretty great selection. There are a couple of things that they sell here that are REALLY hard to find in Reno, so I find myself frequenting them for 1) Zipang sparkling sake and 2)my favorite wine, Vionger. The prices are pretty good, but if you catch a SALE sometimes the prices are down right amazing. I can pick up a bottle of my favorite for what a casino will charge for a class on a good sale day. What I don't like about this Ben's is the location. It's convent to get to, but not the best part of town. There wasn't much I could not have found in a well stocked grocery store. Prices seemed right in line with other stores. No wine or spirits on this trip so I can't comment on selection or price. Spending a few days in Reno and Tahoe, we thought it would would be nice to have a bottle or two of wine in our hotel room. I randomly searched for package stores on Yelp and found Ben's to be just a short drive from our hotel. They have a HUGE selection of wine, beer, and alcohol. The store is nice and clean and their prices are competitive. I walked in and they were empty. The gentlemen behind the cash register greeted me warmly and asked me if he could help me find anything. I'm usually pretty good at tracking down some moderately priced Cabernet's on my own, but I told him what I was looking for. He recommended two different Cabernet's that turned out to be quite good! And since I can admit to it, I guess it makes me NOT an alchi! :) We've stopped at Ben's EVERY single time we go up to Reno for snowboarding. Reason: They have the largest collection of vodka anywhere we've been in Reno at the best prices. Grey Goose is only $26 here and they even have pear flavor! The MAIN reason we go here though is for Van Gogh Espresso or Caramel flavored vodka. Mixed with Starbucks Frappucinno in a bottle and you have an equation of one great day on the slopes. Oh man, this place makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop, except the candy is precious booze. Ben's has a comprehensive selection of liquors. Only once they didn't carry something I was looking for (Absinthe, right after the US ban was lifted. They carry at least two varieties now). Their beer & wine selection is quite good as well. And they have about any kind of mixer you can dream up. Prices are typically cheaper than comparable grocery/liquor stores. Did I mention they are open late Fridays and Saturdays? Once upon a time (circa 1970) this business was known as Ben's Discount Liquor. Nothin' fancy, just a straight-forward liquor store with decent prices and a larger-than-average selection. Over time this local company expanded, tried to dump the "discount" image by changing the name to "Ben's Fine Wine & Spirits", and now has several locations in Reno (and one in Sparks just shy of the border with Reno). The original 4th & Keystone location was recently remodeled to match the decor & feel of the newer stores, but the owners sacrificed some floor space in order to add more tenants to the building. As a result of the remodel, this Ben's has a smaller selection than the newer stores in the chain, but it still has plenty to choose from. A huge selection of bottled beer, beer by the keg, a really solid wine selection, and all your favorites (both cheap and pricey) in the realm of distilled spirits. I wouldn't advise buying mixers & accessories here (a little more expensive than other options), but the only company in town that competes with Ben's on price is the megastore Total Wine & More (which just opened its first Northern Nevada location this year). Even still, Ben's is able to compete ... their sale prices are quite good, and sometimes flat-out amazing. This location often beats its sibling stores on price. The staff are unpretentious; this is not a shop for the wine or liquor snob. However, the service is always friendly and they're always happy to help with inquiries. For the seasoned (and money conscious) Washoe County booze enthusiast, the original Ben's is a decent choice for your favorite taste. read more

An average liquor store. It will serve most needs for liquor purchases but doesn't seem to offer much more than a decent grocery store offers. I went in looking for rye and Islay Scotch whiskeys. They didn't have much of a seleciton. Nothing else jumped out at me either in the other liquors. I checked the wine selection. They have eight to 10 Italian wines that look promising. The French selection was poor (probably a reflection of Reno's tastes) and I found little to interest me among the domestic wines. The Ben's at Lakeside and Moana has a better selection. read more

Oh yeah! This Ben's location is five star all the way, and right in the middle of a whole bunch of fast food outlets. It's within walking distance of downtown (although some might consider it a slightly longer walk,) in the event you don't want to pay top dollar at the liquor/souvenir shops on the gaming corridor. Prices are very reasonable here, and they are often running limited time specials that are advertised on their front doors, in addition to various circulars around town. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the front counter staff is very friendly, and this location has to offer the widest variety of vodkas I've seen in town yet. Normally high priced brands like Grey Goose and Ketel One are actually affordable here. There are often free samples up for grabs. You'll also find a wide variety of imports here that can be rather difficult to find elsewhere. Definitely recommend. read more

I'm not a big drinker so I'm only basing this on the alcohol aisles I've walked past in grocery stores and at places like BevMo. The people working there that night were so friendly and relaxed. I loved the service they provided. As they aren't short on service, they aren't short on the variety either. They definitely have what you're looking for or at least something close to it! My uncle was looking for a specific type. Called to see if they had it (They did!) Oh you're closing soon? Gotta hop there fast! They even showed us the different sizes they had (in different parts of the store). Found it! (Apparently very rare) and left. My uncle was so pleased and even though I was just browsing, I couldn't help but admire the good feeling I had when I walked in and walked out. This should be five stars because it has some of the best deals on quality liquor in the area. the Manager's specials make you do a double take (before you grab all four remaining bottles). But this place really excels with the crazy knowledgeable staff, aided in part by their occasional weekend tastings of "the good stuff". The price on the shelf was 33.99 (which it has been for weeks) and it rung up at 41.99. Cashier was very nice but said he couldn't override it. We come to Ben's at least twice a week for wine, and they are always stocked with what we want, and their prices are comparable, if not cheaper than prices at the grocery store and other liquor stores. During the holiday season, there are displays upon displays of gift boxes of liquors with shot glasses and flasks as gifts for very reasonable prices! The selection of wine is huge, as well as the liquor selection. They also have beer, with a pretty decent micro brew selection. If you need a keg for a party, they have those, too. Almost anything that is liquor with competitive prices. The clerks are very personable and seem to be happy working there. Easy to get there off Keystone Avenue and 4th street next a pizza and a dental office. Parking isn't usually a problem here. Moosehead is rarely sold in stores so I'm going to look for another brand just in case. The current price is $10.99 and the price I don't want is anywhere higher than that. It used to be $15.00 a 12 pack. This is not to say I wouldn't stay with what is been doing and trying to cool! read more

Best bottle shop in Reno. No one has a selection of beers like this in town. All of the Ben's locations are similar. A great selection of beers in the chiller from around the west, country, and globe. They also have a full selection of hard liquor, wine, and assorted drinking supplies. I wish we had Ben's in the Bay Area, it would remove the necessary need to patronize BevMo from time to time. read more

Great location. Very good store. Easy to get off the freeway, buy, and jump back on the freeway. A two minute drive from the downtown casinos-hotels. Much, much better selection and pricing than at the little liquor stores you can find near the casinos-hotels. If weather is decent, walkable from the downtown casinos-hotels (assuming your in half decent shape and have a hat). Large store, LOTS of liquor selection, very good prices. They have a selection of wine, you'll likely be able to find something you like, but this is mostly a liquor store. Only caution is area of town is not the greatest after dark. Would not walk there after the sun sets, would recommend caution if you drive to it after dark. During daylight, perfectly okay and very safe feeling. We stopped to buy before heading to South Lake Tahoe, not really necessary, as South Lake Tahoe has plenty of liquor stores with the larger ones having good selection and not bad prices. But if your staying somewhere out in the wilderness other than the town of South Lake Tahoe, I recommend you stop at Ben's before you go. read more

If you buy anything from this store that's in a box, make sure you check the box to see if you're buying what you want!! We were from out of town and stopped in to see if they had the new Crown Royal Salted Carmel. They had some on the shelf for $38.99 (almost double the regular crown), but have been looking for it everywhere to try it. When we got home I unboxed it without paying attention and put it in the freezer. When I pulled it out a few days later to try it, it was regular crown. Store says if we bring it back she will refund us. It's not worth the cost of gas to take it back. read more

Need some 190 proof Everclear? (banned in CA) You'll find this and more to suit nearly every taste. Arguably has the largest selection under 1 roof in No. Nevada. Easy access into & out for that quick purchase. I'm rather disappointed with the prices, however. Nearly everything from mini's on up I've found same or cheaper in grocers or corner markets. I settled on a 1.75L pre-mixed cocktail bottle from a center display. Rang up almost 2x the advertised floor price. The counter lady wasn't very gracious or apologetic about it. I always like picking up extra mini's for those on-the-go moments. Here, they're way more expensive than BevMo by comparison. Mostly $5 and up for the same mini that could be had at BevMo or corner market for around $2.25 or less. The buckets advertising $1.19 minis were all bone dry empty. It's probably not the best liquor store for true wine aficionados either, as this selection looked pretty basic. read more

Whenever I do stop in the guys running the counters are friendly and they never hesitate to show me to a particular bottle I'm searching for. There are lots of options for buying booze, but whenever possible, I prefer to do business with a local firm. I recently had an open house at my business, and got the beer and wine from Ben's. Drew at the lakeside store (they have like 4 of 5 locations) asked me about my budget and the number of people I expected and recommended Wine and beer that was sure to impress but on sale... and helped me figure out exactly how much I needed. Be was right on. We didn't run out of anything... and had 1.5 bottle each of white and red wine, and 2-4 bottles each of the three bottled beers. I don't know how he figured that out so well, but the precisioin really helped stretch my limited budget. So glad Ben's is here! read more
