Ben's chips are served hot and they crispy, lightly salted, have a crunch but are soft inside. Ben's fish portion is very generous and is crunchy on the outside and soft inside. It doesn't need salt but there's salt on the table if you think you need it. The shop is clean and easy on the eyes. The service by the two young ladies was excellent. I thought both options were tasty and reasonably crispy, although I think the breading was more panko than tempura based, so not my favorite. We ended up at Ben's after discovering that our first choice was no longer in business. As it turns out, a little bad luck turned out great. You do need to know that this is a very small restaurant. There are a few tables inside, snd a few outside in front, but I'd guess that takeout is Ben's main source of orders. My wife and I each ordered the fish and chips. Several different types if fish are offered; we chose cod. You'll get a huge piece of fish with perfectly crispy batter. The chips were also good, though they could have been crispier and saltier. One thing that I didn't particularly care for is that one side of the cod still has skin. Some people like skin. I am not one of them. That said, it was easy to separate the fish from the skin. This really is a rather smaller joint that specializes in fish and chips, you can choose from a variety of fishes - my boyfriend and I chose one combo with cod and one with haddock. It was kind of hard to tell the difference. Depending on what time you come and how busy they are, really determines the freshness of the fish and chips you get. I saw my order unfortunately being pulled from under a heating lamp and the greasiness from being soaked in the oil for a while showed.
