The restaurant is super loud so it's hard to hear people at the table talk. The waitress was very slow taking our order and getting water for us. Watching her serve other tables, she gave most patrons drinks after their food was served. The cod was really good and meaty. The onion rings were amazing. The fries/chips were only okay. There was no salt on them and they weren't crispy at all. We got a tiny container of tartar sauce. It was hard to get her attention, so I finished the last half without anything. I don't know if the quality of fish and chips is typical for London, but I'm not that impressed. A small town on the Oregon coast had the best fish and chips ever. I will say, the onion rings were the best even though they were a little greasy. The coleslaw is not like USA slaw, but it was pretty good. I will probably try another restaurant for fish and chips to get a good comparison. read more

We felt obligated to stop by here because well, when in London. . . right? And there were a couple of locations nearby where we were staying. Also, I was pleased to read that they had vegan fish! The kid and husband shared some regular fish and chips and I had the vegan variety. I think the kid and husband liked their selection quite all right, but it wasn't anything stupendous. Like, it didn't "beat" any of the fish and chips they previously had in the United States but we didn't expect it to. My vegan fish was a tad creepy, not going to lie, but that's likely because I don't often consume vegan fish. It had a flaky texture, attempting to be reminisce of fish with a slight seafoody flavor. It was served with tartar sauce, which I assumed was not vegan, so I opted for ketchup. The chips were decent short chunky bites of potato. I decided to take my leftovers back to the hotel and as you might expect, they were not very delectable once they were cold, hah. As expected, everything was really fried and greasy, because duh but everything came out quickly and piping hot. Our server was pretty attentive and prompt, which I appreciated. This is sort of between a 3 and a 4 stars for me, but I'm rounding up to a 4 as it's not often that I have the opportunity to consume vegan fish. read more

I mean... it wasn't complete garbage... it just wasn't good. it was fried well, quite crisp, but kind of greasy... no flavor. Where's the seasoning? Like a crispy greasy sponge of water and oil if I gad to describe it. I doused it with so much vinegar to get it to taste like something it was soggy. The staff wasn't very helpful, non attentive... never brought our drinks. The space was very bright and cramped... not very comfortable, rather utilitarian. Arrived after the lunch crowd on Monday and did not have to wait for a seat. While I ordered the Haddock Fish and Chips, my buddy ordered the Cod and both were accompanied with a tiny tiny cup of tartar sauce and lemon slice. With the haddock being a slightly more firmer fish than the cod, we enjoyed the crispy fish with portions being sufficient. As for the chips, they are typical of the British--wedge shaped, not crispy, not oily, and not salty. Whereas the American counterpart is the opposite, except for the shape which is baton. With plenty of condiments on the table (ketchup, mayo, malt vinegar, salt), I was dismayed that the tartar sauce was so stingy. read more

We made a reservation and we are glad we did. This place was pretty busy. My husband picked it because they offered gluten free fish and chips along with other items. My family is not gluten free but they really enjoyed their food as well. It was pretty busy in there especially since it was a Friday. This place was on the pricy side but it was worth it. I ordered the gluten free cod goujons and gluten free onion rings. My family liked my rings better than their regular ones. The rest of the family got the cod and chips with a side of onion rings and beans. We enjoyed our meal and would eat there again when we visit London. I was on the hunt for gluten free fish and chips in London and all roads led to Hobson's. I walked in and was worried there were no tables left, but the restaurant is actually just a very odd shape and opens up a ton after you walk all the way around the kitchen and around the corner. Definitely rely on the host more than your own eyes. We were sat at a corner booth and loved the music they were playing, the vibes in there, and all the incredible options. Started with a halloumi salad, which was top notch and came quick. My friend and I shared a fish and chips which was definitely the right move for us since we don't eat huge portions and didn't want leftovers. It was SO good! The batter is really crisp and lovely. Try a Fentimans Dandelion Beer if you are feeling adventurous. Clean look, with primarily keeping to blues (assuming random ocean reference). This is a top-notch fish n chips joint. The fish is fresh. The batter crispy golden with that wonderful crunch. The welcoming and friendly service staff made the meal ever more pleasant. Although the place is fairly cozy, it is quite clean and well organized. And to top it off, the price is unbeatable. Mayfair Chippy, although maybe on the same par as the food quality, it certainly cannot beat the price at Hobson's. A must try for those visiting London. read more

The best part about our visit to Hobson's was the calamari. I found the calamari to be very delicious. The fish from our fish and chips was mushy, which i did not like at all. The best GF fish and chips!! I can't speak for the non GF fish and chips, but to have a GF option was truly amazing on our trip to London. The service was good. We went to 2 different locations and both were very busy. Once we sat at a table and the other time we ordered for take away. I'd say that both times the food came out at a reasonable time considering the crowds. As for the ambiance, it's pretty basic and it's a clean restaurant but heavy traffic going through the restaurant at all times. I felt it's good for a quick stop. Not a place to hang out.
