This industry is dominated by small, typically family owned businesses, at least here in Northern Virginia. I was quickly inundated by business cards left in the door, or guys dropping by to provide a quote. All of the tree folks I talked to said the entire tree had to come down, it had rotted from the inside of the tree, so no cheap solution here. This giant tree was next to a road and our house, some special care was needed to be taken by an expert to deal with this. Everyone I talked to seemed very knowledgeable, so it really came down to price and how long they had been in business. Luckily for me, a local business very close to my house fit the bill. Billy Bradley and his son came by and talked to me about the job, assured me they were licensed and insured, and I knew they were a neighbor so if anything didn't work out, I knew where they lived! His crew came by and got it done to my specifications within a day! I burn wood for heat, a bit of a doomsday prepper I guess, so I wanted to keep the wood but it had to be cut to a certain length. He did as I asked and chipped all of the branches so we could use the wood chips in our garden. He had a guy of his come and grind the stump for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend Billy and his crew and plan on using them to trim and maintain our more mature trees for the foreseeable future.

I used them 3 years ago when took out some trees in our front lawn, they leveled the ground, sodded and came by every day while we were out of town to water the grass. They also do our annual mulch and put it throughout our gardens, 27 yard's worth in one day. They are also a tree trimmer and lawn service company but we haven't used them for that since we haven't had a problem with our current mower and I have a great tree company. The prices are consistent if you use them each year. I really enjoy when I see Nelson each spring. Try them out you won't be disappointed.
