Long story short, we got rid of our screened in porch and ended up with a big mud pit in our backyard. We needed a solution but didn't quite know what to do. After getting 3 different estimates, we are so happy that we found Cassella Design & Build! The other companies just asked what we wanted and said okay before providing an estimate, but Jack at Cassella spent over 45 minutes talking with us about our concerns, making recommendations based on the layout of the yard and other issues like irrigation, talking through various options based on price point, and providing a design option. The hardest part was making a decision. Once we decided, Cassella took care of the rest! Jack and Elijah informed us of every step, coordinated and scheduled the contractors, and kept us up to date with progress. We love our stone patio. They solved the irrigation issue (no more flooding), moved our ac unit to give us more grass area, and went over and above by planting grass seeds. The picture does not capture how great the patio looks. We were so thrilled and impressed by their work that we decided to continue working with them! Stay tuned for updates soon!

I am an extremely satisfied customer. Our side yard had been an eye sore since we bought our house. It was outdated and impossible to maintain. Wild grass and unknown vegetation would constantly grow back to make the place a mess. We wanted our side yard to look clean, with minimal maintenance, and be a place where we and our guests can congregate and enjoy quality time together. We did not know what would be the most economical and efficient way to achieve that, and we did not necessarily have a fixed budget, but rather had two budgets at different $ thresholds, depending on the value of the improvements we felt we would get. We shopped around for landscaping companies, and the first one that came by to do an in person assessment didn't give me a ton of confidence. The lady was nice, to be sure, but seemed to leave it to me to come up with ideas. I have no clue what options are out there in the universe of landscaping. But she seemed to take my lead on what I wanted to do with the space, rather than giving me suggestions based on the company's experience and options that would fit my budget but achieve the overall goal that we had in mind for the space. The company came back with a couple quotes that were within budget, but I decided to shop more and came in touch with Elijah and the team. Elijah was different from the outset. He understood my overall desire for the space, but beyond that, he took the lead on giving me a buffet of ideas to choose from. That's what I needed since I don't know a thing about landscaping. I needed the company to give me their best recommendation based on my desires for the space in a way that fit my budget. That's exactly what Elijah did after looking at a few pictures of the space and ultimately coming over for an in-depth assessment. I thought that perhaps I would need to remove all existing wooden frames and completely overhaul the existing framework. That would have blown my budget by a lot. Instead Elijah suggested that we repair existing wooden frames and work with the general landscape that we had, replace the vegetation with local plants that do well with minimal maintenance, actually keep the three small trees in a way that made sense with the overall final layout of the space, and re-purpose an outdated/ugly stone chair to place it with the three trees we were keeping (and now it's beautiful and we sit on it). See photos showing the project progression. We are thrilled with how the space was converted into something we can enjoy with minimal maintenance. We appreciate Elijah's engagement from start to finish and for his expert advice on how to achieve our stated goals for the space. Some electrical work was needed for the lighting, and he connected us with his electrician Jose who did a great job for a fair price. I would go back to Cassella for my future landscaping needs, and I would recommend it to my friends and family. While I didn't do a full market survey, I do think Cassella's pricing is very competitive with the market (certainly was a lot lower than the first company that looked at my space), and beyond just general pricing, I appreciate how Elijah was able to find a solution that fit my budget.

I reached out to Cassella Landscaping to build a new retaining wall and patio in my back yard. I got estimates from six different companies before choosing Cassella. I will explain why I chose Cassella over the others, and why I am so glad I did. They were amazing! I did my research and read so many reviews. Cassella clearly had highly satisfied customers. Elijah, the owner, personally came out to talk to me about my project. From the start of my interaction with Elijah, I could tell this company was different. He listened to what I wanted done and my concerns about cost just like the other companies. But then what happened next was what made Elijah stand apart from the rest. I had made it clear that I was concerned about price and wanted options to consider how much of my project I could actually afford to do. He took the time to ask me questions to understand why I wanted this space, how I planned to use it, and which parts of the project were most important to me. And then he not only gave me options, he helped me refine my vision for the space to help me see what I could get done within my budget. He clearly cared enough to not just get the job, but to make sure I would be happy with the outcome. He was the only company who also told me that he would have one team working only on my project from start to finish. And he offered a warranty. The process of working with Elijah and his team was great all the way through. He answered all of my questions in a timely manner, and he communicated frequently. He had a team that was with my project from start to finish. They were hard workers, polite, and kept everything as clean as possible throughout. They cleaned up everything at the end, as well. They started when they said they would, and they completed the project right on schedule. The final project looks amazing. I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to get my new patio furniture so that we can start enjoying this new space when the weather is nice. My finished project is a retaining wall (3 feet tall by 40 feet wide) and a patio (12x24 feet) with beautiful pavers on both. The landscaping around the wall and patio was just what I wanted with river rock and plants. He transplanted the young trees that I wanted to keep and helped me pick out plants for the rest of the project. I had not imagined including lighting, but Elijah suggested it, and the lighting is beautiful. I also had a walkway installed that matches the paver patio style. It all looks so great, I am very happy with it. I highly recommend Cassella Landscaping. Elijah and his team were such a pleasure to work with and the finished project looks amazing.

    Brand new look!

Cassella landscaping was the third company I spoke with and I went with them as Elijah seemed very enthusiastic about the project. Elijah was great to work with and his crew are fantastic at what they do. The front and backyard of my townhouse were a mess. I decided to just overhaul both areas. New driveway, new walkway and new landscaping in the front. In the backyard I wanted a new patio, some mulch and some new fencing. I am not a gardening type of person, so I was looking for a minimalist type of yard. Cassella Landscaping exceeded my expectations and I love how my yards look now. The only issue that occurred was due to me not realizing that my outdoor water sources were not working until the crew came to do the work. They adapted very well and a kind neighbor let the crew borrow a hose to finish the work. My tip is to make sure you have working water sources available!

Great customer service and really takes the time to listen to your lawn needs. Snow prevented original date so we rescheduled. Best part was he stopped by to make sure what was needed the day before just to make sure what we had discussed earlier was still the plan, as a few weeks had passed by due to delayed spring weather and snow. It has been a wet and late snow kind of year. Responds quickly to your emails and the work done well and on time. Would definitely recommend to others! Update: Summer flowers look great!

Elijah Cassela (owner and operator) was prompt, polite and neat. He did some landscaping for us which included fabricating a retaining wall and two flowerbeds, removing 9 bushes (one of which was 9 foot tall. He aerated and seeded our lawn, planted 15 bushes, mulched and crafted a neat river rock bed in the back area that was essentially a swamp. Please see the pictures attached. We were please with his work and the final product was lovely. Stacked against the competition Cassela Lawn & Services are average in cost however they performed as if they quoted a much higher price. We urge you to consider this budding business for your lawn care and garden projects.

We reached out to Elijah to redo the front yard landscaping at our rental property after we had a tree removed. It was a mess. Managing from out of state made it a challenge to find a vendor who would take our smaller project on. He was very responsive, easy to work with, and flexible with my timeline (we had to work around our tenants schedule as they were moving out). Elijah made time to meet with me in the short time I was in town and delivered on everything we agreed upon. I would definitely work with him again. What a difference!!

I contacted Cassella Lawns & Services based on other reviews on this site, and I was not disappointed. Elijah was quick to respond to my inquiry, took the time to listen to my concerns, let me explain what I wanted (without interrupting or rushing me along), and then provided a competitive quote in a timely manner. I had gotten other similarly-competitive quotes from a couple other landscaping companies, but it was Elijah's understanding of proper pruning techniques and knowledge of the unique needs of the various shrubs and plants in my yard that sealed the deal. I have been frustrated before by many companies' one-size-fits-all approach to pruning, and the ultimate damage they can do. Our job was not simple: rip out 9-10 mature laurel shrubs that had overgrown their space, take out a old butterfly bush that was getting out of control, remove 4 red twig dogwood shrubs along with the invasive vine that was slowly taking over; plant an array of new boxwoods, mountain laurels, deutzias, weigelas, & spirea, along with a new butterfly bush & a couple hydrangeas; clear a natural runoff trench of debris so water would not back up into my yard & carry away the mulch; edge and mulch all the garden beds. The destruction took 3 men one full day, and made an immediate impact on the front of the house (everything was gone except for a couple of trees). We had an active den of young foxes living under the front stoop, and Victor (the crew supervisor) was especially careful to avoid disturbing them by doing the destructive work in that area first before moving onto the rest of the yard. I was also impressed at how Victor widened the runoff trench to allow better water flow, and his knowledge of how water behaves was obvious. We have had several flooding rains since the work was done in early April, and I have had no water back up in that garden, and all the mulch is still there! Due to weather conditions (lots of rainy days) it was several weeks before the new plants could be put in. Again, Victor & his crew (one man this time) were invaluable. As we were placing the plants (prior to digging them in), we realized that my original plan would have to change to provide better spacing between the plants. Once that was done, the crew was extremely efficient in finishing the work of digging in the plants, and then edging and mulching all the beds. Photos attached show the beds after the old shrubs were removed, after the new plants were installed, the trench after widening, and the foxes (cause they're cute!).

    Paver patio

The job was to extend a paver patio to match the existing (increase it 2x). Elijah was super responsive, professional, and beat other estimates. His employees were the same. The project was done quickly, correctly, and the crew cleaned up everything afterward. I cannot recommend this business enough

Elijah and his team have completed a series of projects for us over the past few years. They've recreated what was a grassy/muddy back yard into a beautiful landscaped and paved oasis for our family. Elijah is easy to work with and super responsive. His crew is super professional which is not easy to find in the landscaping world. He'll share opinions and expertise as well which helps to better define the project scope and avoid missteps. Importantly, when we've had issues post-completion, Elijah has been quick to come back to help resolve or provide additional services. We'll be using Cassella Landscaping again in future as we continue to transform our back yard.

    Lighted wall at night. Stunning.

Needed some plantings which Elijah did. But he suggested a short lighted wall to highlight my yard. It's is fabulous and gets so many compliments from neighbors. So pleased and Elijah and Victor are fabulous and easy to work with. Also helps walkers during dark hours navigate. So pleased.

Elijiah is very timely and custumer service oriented. He clearly communicated the new patio proposal and gave me straightforward and reasonable pricing. The work was scheduled for next week and his crew was very efficient. They work very hard to get the job done. There were few mistakes but they came back and fixed them immediatelly. Overall - great experience and the new patio looks great.

TL;DR: Hire them!!! It's a no brainer. Elijah was incredibly responsive and a pleasure to work with, and his crew that did the install are simply amazing. They turned a nasty mud pit into a spectacular usable space, of which is forever maintenance-free!! Hugeee plus is that without traveling during COVID and stay-at-home orders, I wanted a way to rack up travel points - Elijah utilizes Square as a payment option! $1000 downpayment, and rest paid upon completion. So as long as you're not in a rush, Elijah does need to order the turf, so anticipate a 2-3week wait from contract signing until project starts. I had two other major companies that do turf in NoVA come out for a quote, and asked all to give me a 14'x18' and 14'x22' quote. The work was all the same: primarily fix the grading issue to ensure proper water drainage (out of my neighbor's poor mulch bed), add ~4" of gravel and tamp, then install the turf. While I had to gamble on the turf Elijah chose for me because I never got to see a sample, stepping on it for the first time, it did NOT disappoint. It was the "same" soft blades and height I was looking at from the other companies. When the last company gave their quote and it was still higher AND cost extra to go fence to fence, the choice for Cassella was a no brainer. Being a central unit townhome, the crew had to wheelbarrow, multiple times, a one-way 100m dash all the large and small gravel. Of this, they have my utmost respect... There's a small hill, so it's no small feat. As a few were preparing the gravel in the truck, one guy machine tamped the gross mud pit, and the other individual worked on the debris that they couldn't utilize. Once the gravel started piling, it was a pleasure watching the team's rhythm to spread, rake, and tamp the gravel. I am also incredibly appreciative when the crew's lead asked to remove the door and leveled the turf even with the patio. I would have been elated at the final result either way, but in asking first they left nothing to surprise. The install created a 4" height from the ground right at the door, and with an inswing, they told me they'd have to remove then saw the door. They even leveled it upon reinstall!! Eight hours later, these five magicians transformed my backyard into a playground oasis for my 4yo and a new potty spot for my Yorkie. I have nothing but high praise for the Cassella team and recommend them if you need them for artificial turf - and based off their other work and reviews, other landscaping projects too!!

They delivered excellent craftsmanship and top notch design experience at a fair price. I initially hired Gerber to tune-up all my existing pavers, add a new paver driveway, and add some new path lighting. Adding the new driveway was somewhat of a challenge as the adjacent paver sidewalks were initially constructed over 10 years ago. So, Gerber was able to find a great match to my existing pavers and masterfully piece the new driveway together in such a fashion where old and new appear seamless. Amazing!!! During the process, we learned that his team also offered landscaping. So as the hardscaping and lighting was coming to an end, his team met with us for a design consultation.
