    Standard Paving - Borders separation

On September 14, 2024, Standard Paving installed a new asphalt driveway at my home. The job included a warranty for workmanship and materials, as well as an additional one-year warranty for an oil sealant application. Less than a year later, the driveway began showing serious structural issues: centerline separation, multiple cracks, crumbling edges, a visible hole near the garage, exposed stones, water leaking through seams, and a noticeably thin and hollow layer of asphalt--clearly less than 2 inches thick. I made multiple good-faith attempts to resolve the situation, including a certified letter and a formal legal demand letter requesting inspection and warranty-covered repairs. I gave a clear deadline and documented every issue. To date, there has been no response whatsoever--despite also paying for the sealant warranty that clearly failed. Also important to note: do not be quick to leave a positive Google review when asked during installation or immediately after. One of their journeymen, John, pushed me to post a review on the day of service. I was hesitant and said I'd wait--and I'm so glad I did. This is why their ratings appear high online, but in reality, they're not warranted. Buyers beware. I expected professionalism, accountability, and basic follow-through. Sadly, I've experienced none of that and am now left with costly issues and no support. Please do your research before hiring.

BEWARE! This company is running a SCAM under the guise of "undesirable base". While that is a…read morething, it is rare. They normalized it for profit by using fear tactics and your ignorance. I've been in the construction industry for over 20 years, on both the sales and labor side. I've seen my fair share of scams in those years. Their scam works by giving you an estimate that's in line with local competition. You sign their contract that is rigged from the start. One section states that you are responsible for their court fee's should you take them court (read that again). The undesirable base portion is also rigged. The scam works after they remove your old driveway. The job lead knocks on your door catching you off guard. He proceeds to tell you the ground underneath is too soft to lay the asphalt without the possibility of it failing. They can still lay it, but they will not guarantee the work. Or they can come back after the ground has had time to dry and guarantee the work "BUT" you will have to fork over an extra $750-$1500 to bring the crew and equipment back when they never even brought the asphalt load, the asphalt laying equipment, or the entire crew to begin with, only the equipment n crew to remove the old driveway. It is common for companies to remove your old driveway on day 1 and come back the following day to lay the asphalt. While they're removing your old driveway, they're spraying water all over the soil base making it more "undesirable". Part of the their contract states a water spigot needs to be accessible. Water is used at times to reduce dust but in this case It was used as a weapon. Some companies will also schedule you after a rain to use that against you. I am absolutely disgusted by the way they ran this scam on my parents. I do not live with them, or was able to oversee this job, otherwise I would've told them to install it same day. Which I know they would have had to come back a diff day anyway. I did watch and listen to everything from the security camera footage, along with reading the contract to see how this scam worked. I spoke with a neighbor that referred them to my parents and they also stated they paid the "UB" fee. The more my parents said no, the more the lead lied. From saying your driveway "might fail", to "it will probably fail", followed by it "will 100% fail". The disgusting part was them saying the contract says undesirable base fee is $1500 but we'll "do you a favor" and only charge you $750 to come back after it dries and you'll get the guartnetree. Basically "we can screw you for $1500 per the contract, but we'll only screw you for $750. I don't know how the owner Jerry sleeps at night doing this to customers who put their trust in them. Greed and dishonesty as it's finest.

I decided to go with another paving company since they were more flexible with their policies, had a better warranty with fewer exclusions, and properly fixed cracks by cutting out the surrounding asphalt and adding new asphalt.

He quoted a price which seemed reasonable that involved the demolition and rebuilding of the curb and gutter, into which he threw in some additional repairs to the mortar in an adjoining brick wall. Once he got started, however, he kept discovering additional problems (which indeed existed) and the repair costs escalated until I ended up paying over twice what I was initially prepared to pay. He and his crew did an excellent job on the curb, gutter, and sidewalk rebuild. The brick mortar repairs were more slapdash. Moe definitely knows his stuff when it comes to concrete repair. He is honest, skilled, reliable, and communicative.

They power washed the backyard patio, staircase to the sun room, as well as the basement walkout the first day. They went back the following day and filled in all the missing mortar that had worn from r the 17 year flat blue slate and brick patio. For the second day for the front walkway, they grinded and removed all the old temporary chalking, removed the brick boarders (dozens of bricks) carefully along the curb of the walkway, poured 4" concrete footing, re-laid the brick boarders on the footing, and power washed the entire walk way including the steps and portico landing to the front entrance. They ensured the used the correct coloring for the mortar, and took great care to cleanup and haul away all leftover materials. Use their service with confidence.
